I keep writing posts and deleting them going round in circles over the same problem and that problem is Philippa’s mismanagement of the Lodge. Specifically when it comes to Triss Merigold. Triss is a fair-weather ally, and Philippa knows this because she comes from a background of espionage and political manipulation. Philippa knows people and she knows Triss and she STILL lets Triss’ leash get far too long and far too tangled.

You either leave Triss out or you put her in the center and tell her she’s the most important person in the room (see the Wolf Witcher’s careful treatment of her in Blood of Elves). Philippa doesn’t do this, or at least she doesn’t keep it up, which means that when Yen comes knocking, Triss is riding off to Rivia and the Lodge is six feet under. Something about that feels reckless to me, though at the same time I love it, because it goes to show that even someone as skilled at manipulation as Philippa is going to slip when it comes to Triss Merigold. Because Triss is not simply ‘selfish’ or ‘patriotic’ or ‘dedicated to the wellbeing of mages’, she’s often just hoping that everyone stops fighting and doesn’t ask her to apologize and that they forget the things she does when she’s scared or lonely.

♠ Pynk (is where it all starts) ¬ In which hot-shot lawyer Tissaia de Vries unknowingly walks into a strip-club and finds herself hypnotized by one of the dancers there. Not how she’d planned her evening to go.

♠ Get naked (i got a plan) ¬ The phone rang, drawing her attention. With a sigh, she picked it up. “Phil, is that you?” Distorted by the line, a muffled voice answered her. “Johnny got clipped.” Tissaia’s hand balled into a fist. “You know what to do,” she replied curtly. The line went dead. She hung up, ran a hand through her hair. A bath would do her good. And then she would go find Yennefer. 

1920s AU.

♠ I’m your sinner (and your whore) ft. JZXR7 ¬ Due to circumstances entirely beyond Tissaia’s control (Yennefer. Due to Yennefer), she’s found herself trapped in her bedroom with a human whirlwind during a minor pandemic.

She has decided, in all her collected wisdom as Rectoress, that the girl has ten minutes to stop talking before Tissaia takes drastic measures.

♠ The one where Tissaia is a freestyle dance teacher ¬ “It’s Tissaia,” Triss told her, concern evident in her voice.

“What’s with her?”

Now closer to the window, Yennefer leaned forwards and watched as her former mentor, way down below, was shaking her arms and upper body in very strange ways. Had the woman finally lost it?

♠ I will let you down (i will make you hurt) ¬ She feels the blade against her throat before she’s even done with her sentence. Tissaia remains calm, despite the cold metal piercing the skin ever so lightly. Something warm runs down her pale skin and she knows it’s blood. Still, her eyes never leave Yennefer’s.

“Why,” Yennefer begins, almost shouting, as she stalks forward until she’s all up in Tissaia’s face. “Why did you let them send me to Nilfgaard?”

They know, they all know what Yennefer means to her, how long she’s spent trying to find her.

♠ I used to float (now I just fall down) ¬ Post 3.08. Petals descending from the ceiling. Yennefer knew right away it was Tissaia, from way above up in her study, honoring her fallen girls. She looked at them, admired how they fell silently to cover the freshly dug graves.

Then the pain came.

♠ If you wanna go (then I'll be so lonely) ¬ When she finds Tissaia on the floor surrounded by her own blood, Yennefer’s first instinct is to run to her, so she does. Her knees sink to the floor and she wails, cradling Tissaia’s body, hovering over her as if to shield her from harm. But the harm is done, and Tissaia’s the culprit, and Yennefer curses her name.

♠ Sinking fangs (into pumpkin delights) ¬ It is Halloween and Tissaia's been invited to a party where she meets a bewitching stranger… one that could potentially bite her, if asked nicely.

♠ Somewhere in the darnkess (us together for a while) ¬

“You’re playing with fire, Yennefer,” Tissaia warned, a hint of regret in her voice.

The younger mage closed the small gap between them, gently but firmly grabbing Tissaia’s hands with hers.

“Maybe I've always been drawn to the flames,” she replied, her eyes never leaving Tissaia’s.

“What did she mean to her,” Ciri bluntly asks after a while. The question’s escaped her but now she can’t take it back. She wishes she could when Geralt remains quiet and a slight frown appears on his face. He doesn’t know, she realizes. Or he does not want to tell her.

How I feel about this character

i don't wanna say 'sweet summer child, cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure' but like. netflix Triss? babby. love that they chose to introduce miss melodrama by having her whisper some soldiers off their horses. don't think they actually accounted for that as part of her personality though so much as they thought it would be hashtag Dramatique but it is what it is. anyway i love Triss and i love how we got to see her progress to sporting her scars from Sodden with pride.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

idk why Sabrina/Triss exploded the way it did but i definitely feel there's something to be said for these two women who were some of a very few survivors of a horrible battle and who also had incredibly traumatic experiences during that battle, you know? Triss/Philippa also good, the more people Philippa can corrupt the better lmao

My non-romantic OTP for this character

i would just have loved to see more of her and Tissaia together. Tissaia accompanying Triss specifically out to the battlefield - not, apparently, to help her directly so much as for emotional support - lives in my head rent free

My unpopular opinion about this character

actually i always hate this question because i don't pay enough attention to anyone else to know if my opinions are unpopular or not xD

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

gotta go back to her and Tissaia on this one. would also like to see her clowning around in romantic entanglements with Phil and/or Sabrina for shits and giggles. because as we know, Triss is in fact the biggest clown

Okay I just finished another chapter in Time of Contempt, and I have a couple thoughts.

First of all, I appreciate the small bouts of Humor that Andrzej Has speckled throughout the serious scenes, it gives me a break from the overall drastic nature of it

Secondly, tissaia.

I cant choose wether I like show tissaia or Book Tissaia more. They are both VERY similar, And I appreciate both of them but oh my god the spell of Last resort scene in the book was just, Haunting.

The moment where Triss was screaming at her to stop, and Tissaia only pausing to help triss get away gets to me. She tells Triss that even though she made a mistake she still loves her, and that makes me unbelievably emotional. Her interactions with phillipa as well? Im obsessed.

“I was proud of you phillipa, but now I am filled with nothing but contempt for you.” Chills. Literal chills.

I definitely like that We got to see more of Tissaia and Phil in the books than the show. In the show they just kind of trade a couple snarky remarks and glare at eachother but in the books there is genuine Regret and hatred from Tissaia and Anger and defiance from Phillipa thats just- so interesting to read about.

Im also almost glad that Tissaia ends up dying because I know if she survived Geralt probably would have screwed her at some point.

"You shiver loudly." Phil teased, pressing a kiss to Triss' cheek as soon as she was settled in her lap, her head coming to rest on Philippa's shoulder. "But I do find it rather endearing that you would choose to suffer rather than come and sit with me."

"I don't choose to suffer, Pippa." Triss pouted, glaring at the older woman. "I simply wait for you."

Philippa chuckled at her words, hugging the younger woman closer to her, her nose pressed into auburn locks that smelled of verdania and lavender. She inhaled deeply, breathing Triss in, humming her appreciation of having her nestled in her arms.

"I would rather have you here with me all the time, darling. You don't have to wait for me to ask or notice. You are always free to come to me."

Triss smiled, wrapping her arms tightly around Phil's waist, pressing her face into the crook of Phil's neck, sighing at the other woman's warmth as it radiated through her.

"Very well, Pippa. I'll come to you." Triss breathed, pressing a feather-soft kiss against Philippa's skin, earning a hum of appreciation.
