can I just say that I am so incredibly happy to be along for the ride during this crazy time in the phandom rn and to be experiencing it with you all!! i’m always yapping about the same stuff but I genuinely can’t fathom the fact that i’m not still 15 years old and that I’m graduating university this year and I’ve been watching Dan and Phil for over 10 years now. witnessing them rise so quickly during the 2014-16 era was just so incredible, and even though I didn’t get to go to tatinof, getting tabinof as a gift was one of the highlights of my life tbh. it was so different then, I had thousands of followers on ig for posting shit edits and ranting about my middle school antics in captions and here I’m overjoyed to get a few notes on a post(thank u for 50 followers tho :p). i stopped posting on my instagram fan account around 2016 when I started high school bc life was busy and shit was starting to get real- I kept watching dnp, but I’d be lying if I said I was fully invested during all of ii- this is the time that I fell off a bit with the phandom and I was proud to see them continuing to do stuff on their own terms but was just so caught up with other stuff in my life I couldn’t focus on them as much anymore. however, if the past few months and starting this blog have shown me anything it’s how important community in fandom spaces is!!! i don’t know anyone personally in my life that watches dnp, and the only times that I’ve fallen off with watching them or haven’t been as excited about it is when I didn’t have people to yap about how much I love them with, even if it’s just online. i was just kind of over social media which is perfectly valid and I think you can 100% enjoy art without having to engage with online spaces, but having a space outside YouTube comment sections to share my thoughts, talk with people, see the art and things they’re making or thinking about dnp has allowed me to enjoy and be excited about their antics even more. I’m always yapping about how community relates to everything and I’m just so happy and grateful to still be apart of all of this!! another reason I felt constrained with being a part of phandom spaces is that I like to protect my anonymity online for several reasons and while that is perfectly valid and other people do it too, I felt kind of left out when people would post selfies and make friends on twit when I stopped sharing my name and other stuff but I feel like that’s been a little easier on tumblr. however I might have to drop that mask a little bc I would love to join a group of people going to the show this year!! anyways no one is reading this I’ve just been thinking, I love dnp and am so excited for everything that’s happening. tit 4ever <3

okay so I'm pretty bad at tagging things/having a tagging system, I had a blog back in 2016 (middle school) and I was so efficient at tagging my reblogged supernatural gifs, dan and phil clips, and voltron posting but when I lost access to that blog and made this new one I told myself not to take it as seriously (and somehow thought it'd be cringey if i was ultra organized?? which doesn't make sense and I'm still upset at myself for,,) SO for the first half of this blog I didn't tag anything I reblogged at all, I'd just go to town and go through tags I liked (mainly danganronpa) and reblogged infinitely. and I LOVE text shit-posts so it was a mix of everything I enjoyed and found funny

recently though I decided I want to be more organized about things I reblog, at least the main stuff. nagito komaeda is a character that my loved ones will have to pry out of my cold dead hands when i decease so i tag most things about him/art of him with just #nagito, similar to #hajime because they're the 2 characters i blog about the most, and of course the ship between them as #komahina -- I scroll through that one whenever I need comfort lols so having posts that I already love tagged as them on here is helpful for that.

Dear Yuletide Writer,

thank you for offering one of the small surreal-ish fandoms of my heart and I hope you will have fun writing for it. Anything can happen! Symbols! Meaningful non sequiturs! Things! Stuff!

All prompts and ideas are just suggestions, if you are the kind of Yuletide writer who likes to follow them. If not, cool, they are certainly not the end-all of what I love about these fandoms and characters.

If you like visual prompts, this entire blog is 20% recipes and 80% aesthetics that mostly fit my requested fandoms…

I like found families, oddball friendships, sympathy toward outcasts, characters who fully embrace being outcasts, melancholy, a sense of place, bittersweet accomplishments, and a stubborn flicker of hope in an overall bleak world. Dreamlike atmospheres that aren’t necessarily scary, some sort of reassurance that can be found in the weird and the profoundly unnatural.

Myst - worldbuilding (badum tsssssss)

This went too well last year not to ask for it again ç^ç Worldbuilding as an expansion of any of the Ages we don't know too much about - Eder Gira's huts in the distance, Tay stuff inside the hive a/o above the cliffs, Myst's underground rooms, strange sightings on Todelmer, you name 'em. But also world-building as in good old-fashioned focus on the Art, whether it's about a canon Age (anyone else think about instancing too much and get a headache, for one? I think Relto and the instanced Cavern itself are fertile ground for dreamy-weird-spooky fic...) or a made-up Age.

I love the whole cast, so feel free to pin that worldbuilding to any era of canon, following pretty much anyone. I nominated Atrus, Catherine and Yeesha because I love them so much and they all have interesting approaches to Writing, but if your idea works better with, idk, Ri'neref or the Watcher or Gehn or Esher or Zandi or Nelah or some schmuck on Releeshahn or whatever, go for it! I am not particularly well-versed in pre-Fall D'ni shenanigans - I'd be interested in reading something set anywhere in those millennia, just please write it assuming that your reader may not be already up to speed on what was going on historically at the time.

Twin Peaks - Tammy Preston

I see a Twin Peaks character, I want to see them face the unknown, cross a threshold, tread into a different world, have a terrifying epiphany. You know, as they do. Tammy, though, more so than Albert, has a way of being down to earth as we see in the books, and she's got some breathing space between herself and the trauma that keeps propagating itself through Blue Rose on one side (the loss of Phil, of Chet, Sam, Coop) and the town of Twin Peaks on the other (Laura, Maddie, Annie, Audrey, gonna go out on a limb and say Donna and Harry too). Does shooting Diane shift something in her? Or does she remain a potential anchor for others who are adrift? Cynthia could be a fun partner for supernatural casefic, shippy or not. She's the Air Force side of Blue Rose to Tammy's FBI, like Milford and Gordon in The Secret History, and later Garland and Cooper... we don't know much about her but I love her attitude, I think they'd be a formidable team. ...or they could simply go out one night in Buckhorn before Cynthia flies back. And find a ghost or something. There was an old interview where CB was asked whether she felt that Tammy was “the new Cooper” and she said no but Tammy is trying her best!!! And that Coop is more open to the unknown, and Tammy is only just starting. As I think that Cooper's failures are a big part of the narrative, I'm not sure anyone should aspire to be the new Cooper, but anyway, I've been wondering about these two characters interacting (in dreams?) ever since. Reaching out to her as the new Blue Rose agent and/or as someone who is just starting to peek 'between two worlds', warning her, teaching her, getting to know her and even seeing shades of Albert and Gordon in her. And what would she think of him? And maybe Laura is with him, or maybe it's just Laura and Tammy, secrets whispered to her ear, a world just for them. Maybe Laura could be a better teacher. She knows the darkness. Or maybe she would be too intense.

Codex Seraphinianus - worldbuilding

Take a page, any page, and tell me more about it! The rainbows thing, the potted deer, the swimming trees, the literally any illustration in here, look at them, they're great. Translate the text! Connect... things? Are there narrative paths through this copious amount of nonsense? Go fake academia on this - considering the text a total cipher or pretending we can read it? If you want to get philosophical, metaphysical and/or high concept in any other way, go for it! As long as it's all weird.

it’s during your classes usually,,, ur an art history major and you need something to occupy your hands (which is actually why you started drawing in the first place)

so during the day quackity will acquire lil sketches of famous paintings,,, or sometimes originals,,, but they’re always washed off before the day is done

sometimes random art facts/theories/studies but he has no idea why someone would write him about van gogh’s use of color

MK-S: (Got me an account) You know, it’s funny, the (IRL) origins of Phil, way back about 48-72 hours ago. At first it was just a joke based off Gretchen having her tantrums in the Shield dimension, then a joke about the screaming coming out of Klarissa’s hat continuing after Gretchen left…but then I wanted to add one more punchline. I thought it would be funny to call it Phil. Not sure if abyranss’s “bigger hat” image came out first and if the “observing cosmic horrors” inspired me further or vice versa. But now we’ve got an unknown Eldritch abomination occasionally interacting with a familiar-turned witch baby, it lives in said witch’s hat, and we call it Phil.

I’d actually been planning prior to recommend that Klarissa could have a butler, maybe a familiar or something. But in this last batch of responses to Kechi, (anons, JunkoAnon, etc). I see a wave a creativity; A Clara doll humanoid form for Phil, possible origins as a familiar, even art. And this is where I, MK-S, bring forth the following proposal:

(Tosses formal tone out the window) You guys might not believe this, but I think I know how to incorporate basically all of that stuff, including my intent to keep Phil unknownable, into one combined idea. And since I’ve got the account now, and hopefully this all posts into the ask correctly on mobile, I’ll present it in a loose anthology format:…actually, that’s taking a while, so here’s a tldr/summary for when I don’t finish before I hit the hay:

The idea of Klarissa’s first familiar going into her hat, then eating leftover grief seeds until it can no longer get out I think serves as a good foundation. Could indeed be Walpy level…but this is where I insert the tragedy; an Eldritch entity comes upon the Familiar turned witch, a Clara Doll in a black suit, and consumes it. However, the Clara doll holds onto the idea of its mother, affectionately referred to as “Lady Klarissa” throughout its assimilation, with and pieces of it becoming a part of the entity’s newly formed consciousness. The idea of watching over “Lady Klarissa” endures into this Eldritch abomination’s mind, or at least occasionally watching over her. (So it sort of combines my idea of an existing Cosmic Horror being Phil, as well as a possible incorporation of JunkoAnon’s “first familiar” idea.)

As for the use of a Clara Doll body, I think it’s possible to combine that with the Butler idea I had never brought up; in the same way the image of Phil’s depiction had him coming out of a hat, the idea I have is the assimilated remains of the Clara Doll are restored but are also stretched and somewhat distorted. The black funeral clothes it once wore are now reformed into a butler uniform. And of course, Phil would be wearing Klarissa’s hat whenever he would manifest in this way, as this body is more the equivalent of a finger puppet, if you operated a finger puppet with a single eyelash. It likes to pretend it’s somewhat human with this…puppet, on the handful of (rare) occasions it comes out, but tends to avoid speaking; it has no desire for Lady Klarissa to bleed from every pore and for her blood to drip skyward.

Oh, and Phil actively keeps other cosmic entities away from the portal in Klarissa’s hat; Gretchen does a similar task in the portal of Homura’s shield, albeit unknowingly.

Vicsep7250, I don’t know how you do it, so props to you and all the io3 stories you’ve written here. Anyway, this has definitely been the most I’ve written for this in one go, and it almost resembles a blog post on its own. Sorry about that. But before I call it a night, I’d like to leave a section I did finish typing up on my phone: a “short” idea on when sleepwalking Nagisa MET Phil. Here’s the short story (and I hope the formatting for this has been alright, not just here, but the entire ask: never done this before or on this app):

A visitor came from Lady Klarissa’s black star. Most peculiar. Not an invitee of its Lady. No, the Lady was wandering the dreamlands, that it could see for itself. But…how odd. The visitor before it was also amongst its Lady and her fellow dreamers…and yet stood before it, all the same. This visitor…this…intruder seemed unphased by the constant screams that came from the being’s many mouths and many more voices. The entity brought forth its many limbs, a thousand torsos, a million arms and tentacles, preparing to reduce the intruder into a smear upon the fabric of existence. The intruder manifested glyphs, in the language of Lady Klarissa’s mother. Irrelevant, and the being prepared the blow. The intruder manifested more glyphs, in the language of Lady Klarissa’s kind. A language it may have at one point known, but been long since buried in the endless sea of Eldritch Truths. It began to attack when the intruder manifested a third set of ruins in the language of-

It stopped mid-swing. Interesting; Even to a being such as itself, the newest writings…Ah, there was much to do. And a hunt! So long had it been since the last hunt. Before the old doll, before Lady Klarissa herself. Before her kind first learned to walk upon their little world. Yes, a hunt was in order. And the intruder, no, the Guest, would lead the way.

——-SEVERAL (EARTH-SIDE) HOURS LATER:

Madam Charlotte, or “Bebe” as she insisted, had been quite the hunter. To rip apart such ancient void dwellers with such ease, its presence was hardly needed. And yet…it couldn’t deny the existence of a sense of…satisfaction, in having participated. And how humble the Guest was, taking only a few of the finest cuts from some of her more…spectacular kills. Clearly, she had come for the thrill of the Hunt, rather than any true need to feed.

Much had been discussed with Bebe inside the timeless void. The manifestation of her written scripts and a few words of her rather…flat and stationary language. But it was enough for the entity to leave a small message once Bebe returned through Lady Klarissa’s black star with her cuts. The Witch had given her word that her own mother would prepare the alien meat into a fine meal for Lady Klarissa and company. It was coming to be time to part, as it could see Lady Klarissa preparing to leave the dreamscape, while the one known as Nagisa seemed to be waiting for Bebe to arrive to take her from the sleeping world. It helped pull the meat into the black star, bid farewell to the small hunter, and then etched a message, brief thought it was, to inform the Lady of the nights events, in the flat script of the Witches.

Zach Sang’s 25 min of relaxing ASMR wait no I mean celebration of Zayn’s great talking voice wait NO I MEAN his ZAYN INTERVIEW (promised months ago then sadly postponed until NOW) is here!! They talk about lots of specifics about the songs on NIL; Zayn says NIL is his fave of his music and that he “tried to go a little deeper into my own personal things,” he said that he recorded the majority of the album at home in Pennsylvania and that yes, it is influenced by being there, that River Road especially is massively inspired by the locale and “I’ve got a very country vibe going on right now with the big beard and the nature, I’m enjoying it, it’s cool.” He says the cover painting is of “the blank expressions you might get when you’re speaking to somebody that’s not listening,” that “my teenage years were very different than I expected them to be and I learned a lot of things … to take things easy and at your own pace.” About Calamity that he often writes poems (zoems) and just takes lyrics out of them later, but friends voted he keep Calamity as is and go for it, that Sweat (the drums specifically) is an homage to Phil Collins, that he’s writing new stuff and will hopefully have something more out later this year, and Zach asks the pressing question we’ve all had: IS THAT A KAZOO ON CONNEXION? Disappointingly Zayn’s answer is only, I don’t really fuck with those fine details, that’s down to the producers. So no confirmation but also: it’s totally a kazoo. And finally this from Z: “I love music, it’s my solace. I love writing, I love being in the studio and being in that space, it’s something I love to do. I feel like as long as I’m alive it’s something I’ll do I’d like to be able to, I’d like people to remain interested for as long as I’m alive, I know that’s a long shot but it’s a long haul, we’re all trying to stay around for as long as we can.”

We got to see Liam today!! I’ve missed that sweet face! The way it’s achieved is unfortunately via the massive and wasteful expenditure of resources though, it’s very bad for the environment; current bitcoin creation alone for example uses more resources than entire countries and the current NFT craze is racing to outdo that. Louis responded to a DM asking about that; “Louis are you aware the average NFT has a carbon footprint equivalent to more than a month’s electricity for a person living in the EU?” Louis says, “I’m aware and it’s something I’m looking to do differently if I do my own project,” then liked a tweet from a company addressing the issue: "Our carbon neutrality pledge is a step toward making NFT digital collectibles and the digital metaverse part of a green, environmentally friendly future.” IDK how realistic that is, but in any case Louis is aware of the issues and the fans’ concerns.

Anyway he also tweeted about football a bunch- because a former Doncaster player was picked for the England World Cup team!! Louis says the player “was at donny when I was training there. Top lad and top keeper,” and “he deserves every bit of success.” And in answer to queries, the official word from Louis’ merch site (responsive as ever, bless that twin) is that they do not plan to restock the album! No CDs! This is likely due to it having been put out by Syco, who no longer exist, but what does it mean in the long run? It’s a major release and I can’t imagine it simply going out of print forever, surely a reprint of some kind will be worked out?

What secrets was Niall hiding in his photodump yesterday? “What are you playing on the piano?” asks a follower, and Niall selected the tweet to, well not answer, but to draw attention to his failure to answer by simply replying with an eyes emoji, like a troll. Then he posted a picture of sunglasses on an electronic piano, but when asked again to spill what was up said only “a pair of sunglasses on a Wurlitzer.” But IS he trolling? “There’s nothing to know hahah it’s literally a pair of sunglasses on a piano!” he protests. He also tweeted “today is a good day!” which ALSO doesn’t tell us anything but you know what, Niall’s out there having a good time and good for him.

hi! i didn't know you were so new to dan and phil!? how was the experience for you getting into the phandom so late? i ask because i'm around your age, and despite (1/2) having watched dnp for years and years. i'd say i was a casual viewer for most of these years (apart from a short period when i first found all the phan stuff lol), until around a year ago, and since then i've been very much on the edge of the phandom, liking a reblogging (onto a dead blog) but i never really felt like there..

yes you’re a fool!!! lmao i definitely get what you mean though!!! it took me a while to find my people, but you can do it, if you really want to. whenever someone treats me like i’m someone to ask about dnp or about making content i’m really surprised because i haven’t been here for long, but unlike you, i immediately started being Very Loud, so i guess that helped.

since i was super intense about it, i followed Lots of people in a very short period of time (and also interacted with them and saw how some of them treat new fans) and thanks to that i was able to filter the content i wanted to see and the people i actually liked, and just focus on that instead of wasting time and energy with things i don’t care for (like dumb discourse and twitter drama).

i don’t feel “old”, and i didn’t really feel like i was late to the party (not until much later, at least) because i had no idea how gigantic this fandom is or how “well established” some people are in it. i got into it right after BIG so there were Lots of new people joining, i think maybe that helped? or maybe it was the other way around lol i honestly don’t know.

i also don’t write fics or made anything for months, actually, by the time i started “creating content”, i already had lots of fandom friends and all the creators i love and admire had somehow been tricked on following me back, just because i was a loud and supportive annoying lil shit!! 

i think it’s perfectly okay to have a quiet fandom experience and just follow people and reblog their content without making anything yourself, actually, fandom couldn’t exist without people like you! if you do want to be more “active” and “find a space” for yourself though, i can assure you that you absolutely can, just by being supportive and kind, and also voice your opinions!!! i never did this but make text posts and use the main tags!!! i’m sure that works lmao. 🖤

Dan had just assumed his browsing position on their horrifically deformed sofa when Phil flopped down beside him. “Whatcha doing?” Phil asked, cuddling up to him.

Dan wished Phil knew what it did to him when Phil touched him like that, but on the other hand, he didn’t. Some things just weren’t worth ruining five year friendships over.

“Well, I was planning to scroll through tumblr for six hours before falling asleep, but I’m open to other plans,” Dan said.

“Sounds good to me. Takeaway for dinner then?”

“Unless you had plans to cook,” Dan said, mindlessly opening a new browser window and logging into the tumblr account he used when he didn’t feel like broadcasting everything he liked or reblogged to thousands of people.

“Not really,” Phil said. “What do you feel like?”

“Whatever, just get whatever sounds good to you,” Dan said, already absorbed in his dash.

“You always say that and then you complain when I do that,” Phil said.

“No I don’t,” Dan protested.

“Yes, you do.”

“Well, I won’t this time, okay?”

“If you say so,” Phil said skeptically.

“I do.”

“Okay then, I’ll order,” said Phil.

“Good,” Dan said, redirecting his attention to his tumblr dashboard. He let himself get lost in the endless scroll of memes and fandom posts interspersed with insanely long rants about social justice, occasionally conscious of Phil’s glance over his shoulder.

He followed quite a few of his fan’s blogs. Maybe it made him self absorbed, and looking at ship art of him and his best friend was probably a terrible way to deal with his pent up romantic feelings, but Dan couldn’t bring himself to care. He knew Phil wasn’t as comfortable with the shipping as he was, though, so when he clicked on one of his favorite fan blogs he tilted his laptop away ever so slightly.

Weirdly, Phil’s glance over his shoulder turned to a steady gaze.

“I know you don’t like shipping blogs,” Dan said.

“I don’t.”

“Then why are you looking?”

“That’s weird,” said Phil. “You shouldn’t be looking at it.”

“Come on, Phil. Neither of us have a problem with our fandom. Why are you being so weird about it?”

“I don’t care if people do it, but it’s weird to look at. They didn’t make their blogs thinking we’d be looking at it, and if that person knew you were they’d probably be upset about it.”

Dan rolled his eyes. “Come on, Phil. They’d probably be thrilled.”

“You don’t know that,” Phil insisted.

“You don’t either. Besides, I’m not interacting with my official tumblr. They don’t know it’s me. I could follow them and send them a million asks and they still wouldn't know it was me.”

“It’s weird,” Phil said. “Just let our fans have their own space. Besides, you probably don’t want to see what they have to say, anyway.”

“I read fanfic sometimes,” Dan said, defensively.

“About us?” Phil said. “Isn’t that a bit weird?”

“I didn’t say it was about us,” Dan said. “There’s stuff that’s written about you and me that isn’t about us being in love or whatever.”

“Whatever. I just think you should leave them alone,” Phil said.

“Why do you care so much?” Dan said, opening the blog’s ask box. Normally he wouldn’t antagonize Phil like this, but Phil was being weird, Dan was hungry, and he didn’t want to deal with it.

“Seriously, just leave,” Phil said, sounding almost anxious.

“No,” Dan said, tilting his laptop screen away so Phil couldn’t see it and typing a message into the ask box. He pressed send.

Phil’s phone buzzed.

Dan stared at Phil. Phil wouldn’t look back. He was staring at the ground, his skin red and patchy.

“That’s, uh. That’s probably my mum or something,” he mumbled, fishing his phone out of his pockets. “Yeah, she just wanted to know if-”

“Phil. Is that your blog?”

“What? No. Why would I run a fanfiction blog about the two of us? That would be-”

“I never said it posted fanfiction.”

“Don’t they all?” Phil asked weakly.

“No,” Dan said.

“You seem to know a lot about our fandom.”

“Stop changing the subject,” Dan said, grabbing for Phil’s phone.

Phil scrambled back, clutching it to his chest. Dan grabbed it anyway.

The notification was not a text from Phil’s mum. It was an ask sent to him on tumblr. Dan knew for a fact that Phil’s ask box on his official tumblr was disabled, and even if it wasn’t: it was the ask Dan had just sent.

“Phil. It’s fine. I’m not mad.”

Phil had stopped looking red now and was just looking pale. “I can explain.”

Dan stared. “Honestly, mate, you look like you’re on the verge of death. Maybe you’d better not. It’s not that big of a deal.”

“No,” Phil insisted. “We need to talk about this.”

“Okay,” Dan said skeptically.

Phil took a deep breath. “When we first met- Dan, I- I really liked you.”

Dan’s head was spinning. “You liked me?”

Phil nodded. “But I didn’t want to- I wasn’t sure if you-” The doorbell cut Phil off.

Phil sucked in his breath. “It’s probably the food. I’ll go get that.”

“No, Phil- I liked you too. It’s just, you were so much older than me, and so much cooler, and-” The doorbell rang again. “I guess you really should go get that.”

“Yeah. Probably.” Phil hesitated. “Did you mean it when you said-”

“Yes, now get our food before the delivery man decides we’re not coming.”

“Right,” Phil said, stumbling for the door. “Uh, I’ll go do that.”

Dan moved to the kitchen and sat down, struggling to process what just happened. Phil liked him. Phil, his best friend liked him. Phil, his best friend who he’d secretly liked for five years, liked him.

It wasn’t real. There was no way it was real. It was a prank, or a dream, or something.

Phil came back with the food, setting it on the counter and sitting down.

“I still have a lot of questions,” Dan said.

“Me too,” Phil said.

“But mostly,” Dan said, wrinkling his nose, “Phil, why did you order Chinese?”

Phil laughed. “You said to get whatever.”

“Yeah, but you know that when I say that I don’t mean it,” Dan said, unpacking his box and grabbing his chopsticks.

“Shut up, Howell. I ordered Chinese. You’re eating Chinese.”

“Fuck you.” Dan started eating.

“Maybe later,” Phil said.

Y/N POV 

“Well, well, well,” Wanda grinned from the couch as you walked into your apartment Saturday afternoon still wearing Steve’s clothes. “Looks like somebody’s date went well last night. Once he got there. You didn’t even bring your dress home.”

You looked down at your hands in confusion and realized that your dress was still on the floor of Steve’s bedroom.  Well actually, knowing him it was hanging on his closet door.

“Not exactly,” you grimaced.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I didn’t spend the night with him. I didn’t even order food.”

“Then whose clothes are those?”

“Steve’s,” you sighed.

“Should’ve known.” She patted the spot next to her on the couch. “Tell me all about it.”

“It was terrible, Wanda,” you groaned as you flopped down next to her. “He was thirty minutes late. And then he spent the twenty minutes I was there trying to get into the waitress’ pants. And then he suggested a threesome. Twenty minutes in! I bailed and went to the studio to work on my midterm. Steve happened to be working too and so we went back to his place and ate Chinese food and watched the Good Place.”

“I’m sorry, honey.”

“It’s just so frustrating. I don’t know why I bother. This is the fifth failed date in a month. Maybe I should give up on love and just focus on my dancing.”

“Don’t give up on love, y/n. Maybe it’s closer than you think,” she murmured, eyeing the Henley you were wearing.

“Don’t start that again, Wan. You know Steve doesn’t think of me like that.”  

“Because Steve let’s so many girls wear his clothes and sleep in his bed.”

“I didn’t…”

She cut you off with a stern look.

“Don’t lie to me.”

You sighed as you thought about waking up this morning, Steve’s soft snore and the weight of his arm around your waist. It was hardly the first time.

“Still, it’s not that weird for two best friends to sleep in the same bed together.”

“Really? Then how come you and Loki never share a bed when he stays over.”

“That’s different.”

“Oh really? Why?”

Damn it. She had you and she knew it.

“Look, all I’m saying is. What really went through your head when you went out with that guy last night?”

“I’d rather be with Steve,” you admitted, playing with the hem of the shirt. “But it’s not possible. He only sees me as a friend. He made that very clear. Very early on.”

“People can change their mind.”

“Yeah. But they usually don’t.”

“Well, if that’s actually what you believe. Why don’t you come with me tonight? I have to go to Pietro’s fundraiser thing.”

“Somehow I don’t think going to a frat event is going to help my love life. Besides aren’t they co-hosting with Gamma?”

“Yeah,” Wanda sighed. “I’m not thrilled about that part, but I promised Pietro.”

“I’m sure it will be fun. But I really need to go back to the studio. Choreographing to Loki’s music is proving harder than I expected. I’m just not sure what he’s trying to say with this one.”

Wanda nodded understandingly.

“I’m sure you’ll figure it out and it’ll be beautiful.”

“I hope so.”  

  Steve’s POV

Steve was sitting out on his fire escape attempting to sketch when his front door banged open.  

“Hey, punk, you home? Ooh cinnamon rolls.”

Steve rolled his eyes and crawled back in through the open window.

“You know you don’t live here anymore, right?”

“Did Smudge have another shitty date?” Bucky asked ignoring Steve’s comment as he plopped down on the couch with his second pastry.

“Yeah.”

“She knows she could’ve skipped the shitty date bit and gone straight to your bed right?”

“We didn’t sleep together.” Steve snapped, putting his notebook down on the end table and grabbing his own cinnamon roll. “I found her in the studio. We got take out and watched TV.”

“And then she fell asleep. You carried her to bed and she pouted at you to stay with her.”

Steve’s jaw clenched at Bucky’s description. It was entirely too accurate.

“What do you have cameras in here or somethin’?”

“No, punk. But I lived with you for three years. I’ve watched that same scenario play out a dozen different times. And every time there’s some sort of baked good as a thank you.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah. Every shitty date she has ends up with her in your arms. Maybe she should just start there,” he remarked pointedly.  

“Don’t start with that again. We’re not in love with each other.”

“I didn’t say that you were,” Bucky argued with a smug smirk. “But you can’t honestly tell me you don’t wish that it was you she was going out with.”

Steve glared but Bucky simply stared right back with his quirked eyebrow.

“Fine. Of course I wish it was me. But she’ll never see me like that. I was in the right place at the right time to put myself firmly in the best friend zone. And I’m okay with that. I’m not going to throw away three years of friendship because I went and fell in love with her like an idiot.”

“Steve.”

“Just don’t, Buck. Please,” he sighed. “Today sucks enough already.”

That comment was enough to derail him from the familiar argument.

“What’s going on?”

“I’ve been trying to work on my midterm for weeks and I can’t find any inspiration. This is all I’ve gotten out of a three hour session,” he huffed picking up the sketchpad and tossing it in Bucky’s lap.

“This is a blank sheet of paper,” Bucky observed.

“Exactly. I’m completely blocked. And my collection is due in two months.”

“What are you supposed to be painting?”

“Contentment,” Steve sighed. “But apparently I don’t know what that looks like. And I’m supposed to come up with four different paintings.”

“Why don’t you go for a run? Clear your mind a little. You always get your best ideas when you’re running.”

“That’s actually a pretty good idea.”

“I’ve been known to have them,” he quipped. “And then you should take your mind off of it. You could come to the fundraiser tonight.”

“Not my scene, Buck. Besides I really need to at least get started. Phil will kill me if I don’t have any progress when we meet on Tuesday."

“Yeah right. That man worships the ground you walk on. If he had it his your stuff would already be on display at the Met.”

“That’s not true.”

“It’s a little true. Well, if you change your mind. It’s at Triskellion at seven. I’ve got to head over there now and give them the approved drinks list.”

“Who’s bartending tonight?” Steve asked in a knowing tone.

“Shut up.”

“Just don’t be an ass to her. She’s working it’s not fair.”

“Yes, mom,” he muttered as he rolled his eyes. “I’ll talk to you later.”

“Yeah, see you man.”
