Obstacles are meant to be overcome. They present quite a delectable challenge and the thrill of accomplishment is something I will gladly chase.

After hearing that your father humored the man who has seduced your heart, I would do whatever it took to derail him from the task, by all means necessary. I went as far as locating every individual who shared a word with him until I found the source who provided him with intricate details and directions. How interesting, a lowly merchant managed to make purchase of it.

Everyone is a mere stepping stone on the path towards getting the what has been denied to me. I even attempted to be cordial and tried my brother's approach: diplomacy and money. But it was all for naught, they were not eager to betray the trust this man has placed on them. A foolish choice.

It was no fault of their own that they would sacrifice their blood and life to fulfill my desires, a life well spent to provide me with the whereabouts of where your prize was located.

Perhaps this spat was enjoyed more than I expected it to, especially in knowing that they were working directly with that foreigner. This piece of knowledge was enough to guide my steel and if only you could hear it, beloved, how rang gloriously. For you, I created a symphony of lighting strikes that I hoped would rattle the sanctity of the kamis' domain for you.

Let the gods be witness of what I do for the sake of your name, of your honor. Let their dying prayers be a testament of what it means to die a good death, at my hands, all for you. If only you could see them, how they awaited your arrival and you did not come to greet them.

This scene kinda made me wonder whether I’d still love Kyo if he remained as much as a tsundere as he was earlier in the season and whether I’d still so passionately pair him with Tohru. I know this is a Hiro and Kisa scene, but stay with me for a minute. 

It reminded me so much of Kyo and Tohru earlier in the season and while Kyo still has some stuff to work through, it’s clear he’s making an effort to improve. And I have to commend Natsuki Takaya for that. I’ve seen a lot of anime have your typical ‘tsundere boy and sweet girl’ pairings and everyone in the anime and everyone watching the anime will not even acknowledge the boy being an ass or pass it off as a loveable trait and we all just move on with it. Natsuki Takaya took these archetypes with not just Kyo and Tohru but with EVERYONE in the show and spun them on their head and let the characters grow and change with time as the manga went on. You know... AS PEOPLE DO.

It could’ve been so easy for her to keep all these characters as stereotypes and I’m sure she would’ve still been successful if she did, but she didn’t cos she clearly cares and I love it. 

And while I talk shit about Hiro, his reasoning for distancing himself from Kisa is valid and understandable - even if it isn’t fair to Kisa. And his reasoning for acting an ass for Tohru is... kinda understandable too, I guess. He is so desperately seeking for someone to fix the zodiac (as everyone is) and as a kid who is intelligent but can’t quite see the full picture like Shigure does, he doesn’t see any value or strength in Tohru from the surface at all but as we come to the end of the story, I think that view begins to crack and it’s delightful to see.

Typical Tohru. Although seeing how Hiro reacts to Tohru, I guess it is somewhat of a punishment. 😅

I’m sorry I’m trying not to sound like a Kyo stan (except I am), but Kyo is an ENTIRE FUCKIN MOOD this week 😂Getting mad at bratty members of your family AND storming out? Sounds like me at most of my huge freakin family gatherings.

- excuse me, WHAT DID AKITO DO TO KISA?!?!?! I will never be forgiving of Akito. I’m sorry. Maybe Shigure, I can’t spare 10% of forgiveness in his hopes of curing the curse. But Akito (for now anyway), I can’t. Nope.

I do wonder though... what Shigure’s status is with the rest of the family after the end of this manga. Especially Kyo, Yuki and Tohru. Hmmm...

Gonna be honest, Hiro’s episode isn’t normally my favourite to watch. I’m still trying to work out why. It’s not really exciting but Ritsu’s episode wasn’t either but I found that so much more interesting. However it was still fun breaking it down... and seeing more of Kyo, in what feels like a while ! :) <3 Unrelated but I’ve found joy in watching Fruits Basket first thing on a Saturday morning with cereal - it’s nice :) I used to watch it on Friday evenings cos that’s my timing for the Funimation release here in the UK but I might keep it as my Saturday morning watch. Anyway, see you next week where I have no idea what the next ep is!!!

[Spoiler Free Review] Hanayaka Nari, Waga Ichizoku

Since I really enjoyed writing my first review, I’m back with another one~ This one will be a bit shorter.

I think there are still people playing this game even if it’s quite old since Otomate keeps porting it to different platforms (PSVita and Nintendo Switch). I got myself the PSP version.

Story

Our protagonist, Haru, comes from a poor background and starts working as a maid at the Miyanomori mansion to support her family. She meets the six Miyanomori brothers – each born from a different mother.

It does sound pretty fun at first for Haru who used to work at a factory. However, she quickly understands that it is not going to be an easy task - especially with those brothers who treat her like garbage.

A short while after she starts working, the head of the family, Genichirou, announces that he’s going to retire and therefore needs to chose the next head. He challenges all his sons to entertain him and collect points: the first one to reach ten points will be chosen...

About the heroine

Her personality was pretty common : she’s a clumsy airhead, and an idiot (to be very blunt) One might think that this is the ultimate combo to make a character annoying. Nonetheless, I found her very cute. Her design also meets my taste (I love braids hehe). I love characters who try their best no matter how hard they are struggling. Moreover, her personality was a great contrast with most LIs’, and allowed funny and adorable dynamics.

Miyanomori Tadashi : (34) Serious megane dude x ore-sama x oldest son

(CV : Miyauchi Atsushi)

He lives to work and works because he likes working (this man HAS NO LIFE).

I’m usually not into those guys who look stuck up because I want spicy development. However, he was unexpectdly awkward, which resulted in hilarious relashionship development with Haru, especially in the good ending (I swear I cracked on my bed like a psycho).

I!! Like!! Dense!! and!! pure!! Ossans!! (hey Nanase Izuki ⊂(･ω･*⊂) )

He was kinda harsh with Haru at first and didn’t trust her at all but he gradually opens up and listens to her troubles as a maid.

His route dealt with themes such a friendship and social status. It didn’t reveal anything about the Miyanomori family...

Heyyy it’s the first tsundere!! His relationship unfolds almost the same as Tadashi : tough at first, sweet by the end. 

It was hilarious how his personality did a 180 : from  tsundere to absolute idiot sweetheart. However, I have to say that I was sometimes bothered by what he was saying as it was borderline manipulative when he wanted to sound sweet... HMM...

Except that, his route was well balanced.

I’ll go straight to the point : I don’t like him  (；⌣̀_⌣́)

This might be a bit spoilery but I found him very childish even though he is 26. His relationship with his dad is terrible but that doesn’t justifiy how annoying he is. He also had a lot of “what is this feeling?” trope during his route, and I felt like it wasn’t handled the way I like it. The two previous bros also took quite a long time before noticing how they felt about Haru but at least they were cute trying to figure out...

Susumu : (22) good boy x dense x angst

I liked him since the beginning because he is the only guy who has always treated Haru like a humain being, unlikes his brothers!!

I thought he would be a good boy whose route wouldbe fluffy and tame... I’ve got it all wrong. He is not that kind... He’s willing to make huge sacrifices for the sake of his beliefs.

I think he has quite a weird relationship with his friend, but no complaints since all the drama was necessary for Susumu to realize his own feelings.

I can’t say anymore because of spoilers huhh

Hiroshi : (18) childish x creative x growth

He’s that cute and happy guy in otome games who likes playing pranks on others...

He’s only 18 and yet, I feel like he has grown so much in his route (unlike SHIGERU). He was very pure and assertive. I was glad that there was finally a guy open about his feelings. His childish side didn’t bother me at all since it was to be expected from the previous routes.

I loved how the ending and his decisions showed that he had grown to be a fine man. His character development was the best imo.

That glow up five years later tho...

Masashi : tsundere #2 x sharp tongue x clever

What a brat. What a smart brat. I have mixed feelings about this character. I like and hate him at the same time XD stop insulting me

Although he keeps calling Haru an ‘idiot’ (because he’s such a tsundere), he grows fond of her  (´･ᴗ･ ` ) He knows nothing about love, and because of some minor *incident* he thought that he had to take responsibility and marry the heroine lmao

Anyway, the latter half of his route is drama with his father (actually, everybody got drama because of Genichirou, that prick) that he handled pretty well despite the fact that he’s the youngest. Playing him last before the secret character makes a lot of sense, as it completely exposes the character’s identity and objectives).

Tsundere rating : 5/5 (I’ll give him a Tsundere Award)

Is the character dense ? yes / HE IS DARN SHARP??? (I was impressed during that one scene where he carefully used his brain to understand what was going on, unlike his older bros)

I can only say I liked the secret character, even though I would have liked to see less angst... That will probably come in the fandisc...

I kinda regret not getting the Vita port for high res CGs *cries* Since I started playing on PSP, I’ll probably buy the other games on PSP.   ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, I can positively recommend this game to anybody. I think it has everything: plot, fleshed-out characters, funny moments, action, mystery, angst… and romance of course. I was pleasantly surprised by the dynamic between the brothers since I thought they would be at each other’s throat to become the heir. Turns out I was wrong (phew!) and it is actually the complete opposite. Their bickering was truly heart-warming ~

Oh, they were the ones that called out to her. Not me and my off-key singing.  Phew I though I was had for a second there.  Also I just love how it shows their approach is different.  Yuki is a little more up front but coy while Kyo tries to look like he’s not interested and is a little bothered that she had to go with them.  It’s nice to see their character shine through in the OP

She seems happy that they aren’t at each others throats ready to throw down and are just gonna walk home with her.  She just doesn’t want to have to try and break them off again

1st season......1st.....season......Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into.  Just how many more are we gonna have,  Like I am gonna do them all no worries. But still oh boy I was not expecting them to be this up front.  

I just love how chill they are about having flashed this poor girl and maybe scared her for life.  Only now she has had time to process what has happened and maybe given it thought to what she’s gotten herself into.  I still feel like they should make it up to her some how.

That is probably the reason he did that.  Though seriously that is super extra with how he’s posed with the shove.  Like super Extra

I’m sorry what, that really is a Phrasing moment.  Like seriously phrasing to the max.  Now I can tell Shigure is teasing poor Kyo, but he doesn’t have to go that way to do so.  It’s just very rude of him and poor Kyo.  Has he had to deal with this growing up?  Just because he’s the Cat?

Shigure’s face oh my god! That is the funniest face I’ve seen today.  like he’s just lost almost all his features due to the point while poor Tohru is being accused of something she really had no control over.  They just told her she had to live here now.  not like she wanted to either way!

IDK if I mentioned this in my last liveblog session, but there was the matter at the end of Marius's older brother disappearing and no one knowing why. I think that's one of the scientists we keep meeting at the end of each chapter.

Wow, a skeleton stripped bare, discovered by a sanitation worker. Is this a cold case, or were the bugs really hungry?

Game quickly recaps that the guy (Jovi Vance) who wanted us to investigate his sister's murder poisoned some big exec for driving his father to suicide. But he also promised to give us a clue for solving the case. Unfortunately he's missing for some reason. Ran away somewhere, most likely. He hid his message to us in a painting- it's in a gym locker.

??? We're being watched. And they're voiced.

No sadly I don't get to watch my artist friend run a 3 minute mile. We do find the SD card he left for us, though.

okay big info dump. Vance wanted revenge against Heirson. Bloodworth found out and sent him evidence, most likely for leverage against other higher-ups. The evidence revealed that yes, his father and many others were exposed to toxic chemicals. Hard evidence, too, including samples of the toxic substance and evidence on how long it's been there. Bloodworth was then most likely silenced - as in, he never committed suicide. While Bloodworth wanted Vance to expose Heirson with this info, Vance didn't. Instead, he put the toxic chemical in his food and poisoned him. We think that's NXX.

We've also compiled Kenders's (the victim in chapter 5) notes about other NXX victims. Some of them have the "stomach cancer" symptoms.

Problem is, both datasets are incomplete. The only one who might have a complete dataset is Vance and he's MIA.

Okay, we're doing a full recap now... from eeeeeevery case except the first one.

And just like that, more loose ends tied up. Our objectives: Find our missing boy (who is maybe dead), find Heirson's targeted subjects, and locate the source of the drug, either by finding Bloodworth's body or targeting a couple which has a high chance of knowing where NXX is produced.

Oh, phew! The skeleton wasn't Vance, but Burke's (the girlboss) parents. And Choi (the boyboss) is the primary suspect.

[KAITO x Luka] List of Modules that I ship.

I have the Len x Miku version of this post. This explaination will take long, so I’ll cut this ‘keep reading’. Honestly their modules are giving me a lot of prompts to write their fanfiction, but I can’t. ;-; Hopefully I’ll inspire you guys by these headcanons of mine~

1. Elegant Butterfly x Mysterious Butterfly. - I absolutely love these modules! (I even love their designs rather than Len x Miku’s ;-;) Headcanon: Luka is a princess who had a parent issues or political issues around her. She’s quiet, calm, and reserved-- extremely beautiful as people describe her beauty to be deadly or exotic. While Kaito is an enigmatic person, Luka met its eyes without any idea what Kaito is thinking inside his head. He was truly mysterious person, whether he’s an assassin, wolf, or vampire from tales? She never knew and sense danger within him, but all she knew she was entranced to him.

2. Megurine Luka Blossom x Shigure. - Whenever I see these modules, all I can picture is they’re resting under the shade of a tree while closing their eyes and their hands are intertwined. Headcanon: Kaito is destined to be a warrior for war, but he doesn’t like to be involved into one. He met Luka who cares for children, but she’s a kind of sassy girl. After a single sweep of Kaito’s hometown, Luka is nowhere to be found. That made him rage, as he will defeat their village’s foes.

3. San-no-Sakura Maple x Rei-no-Sakura Azure Snow. - I absolutely love these Modules! Because whenever I saw this? It droves me crazy to write a Lukaito fanfiction because this module says it all! Now, let’s go to the headcanon of mine! (Phew! This was long! I have already the summary of this headcanon to be a fic. But sadly, I can’t write it. I’m laaaazy. ;-;) Headcanon: Luka is once a commoner who’s currently shopping in the market for ingredients but then an old man who’s begging that he was stolen. Luka saw a girl who’s in teens. She decided to pursue that teen. The teen wanted a help from a third class soldier, Kaito, who’s on his duty to patrol the market. Kaito talks with the teen and listening to its report, but then Luka pins the teen down wanting the teen to admit to her mistake. But the teen insisted it wasn’t her, but the old man who’s the thief.        Kaito finally recognize the old man as the most wanted in their place. Luka and the old man were both arrested. Luka explained that it was all misunderstanding. Her parents begged for forgiveness, and it’s decided that she will be a household maid for the Prince, named Gakupo.        Soldiers of this era is forbidden to love, as their destiny is to serve and protect its nation with the people. This rule was implemented after the former King and Soldier was betrayed by his own betrothed.

4. Nagisa Replica x Requiem. - These modules rocks! I mean, Luka looks like a warrior who successfully conquered some lands that she’s searching for power together with her betrothed in her side. She was Kaito’s knight, while Kaito is one his way to reclaim his throne that was meant for him. Headcanon: Both of them are victims by the cruelty of fate. As they tasted bitterness when they were kids, Luka lost her right eye sight while Kaito struggles in some health issues plus losing his parents (the king and queen) and Luka who never met her parents. She was the one who’s taking care of Kaito. As they grew up from these environments, their mentality is too strong that they have a will to survive. Luka needs to be in his side in order to help him to reclaim his throne.

5. Amour x Guilty. - What should I even say to this. I T ’ S  P E R F E C T. No headcanons, since Acute is a canon Lukaito thing. I like the story of it, I have no complaints about it.

7. Fraulein x White Blazer. - Hmm, these module blend really well. It seems like Kaito is sort of the owner of KFC lol jk. Headcanon: Kaito looks like a strict tutor of Princess Luka who doesn’t act like a Princess which is why they sent a tutor and wanted a freedom from the castle, she wanted to see the people from the village. The king disprove this since he doesn’t want her daughter be in danger.

8. Temptation x Rosa Blue. - I know this is a weird taste of mine, but I started this since I played Project Diva on PSVita without any available modules for Luka and Kaito except for these two modules lmao. (T/N: I was playing Pair of Wintry Winds at that time.) Headcanon: (These are a bit unsuitable themes for kids?) Luka works in a casino as an entertainer or waitress when she’s not on a duty to entertain people. The casino which she works in is completely illegal, she’s aware of that, that she’s involved now in this crimes. Kaito who’s went to casino for enjoyment after he successfully drugged a woman and raped it. He’s wanted for doing it so, but police doesn’t know his identity since he killed and drugged his victims.          He’s looking for enjoyment tonight, but he can’t believe he’ll be tempted to steal that girl who steals his attention among the crowds. He pulled Luka somewhere to talk privately, Luka smirked at how Kaito acted asking if he’s the famous serial killer who drugs his victims. Kaito had his calm demeanor, which he was amused to Luka that she wasn’t afraid of him AT ALL. Among all of the girls he captured, Luka was the first one to escape. This amuses him very much, he’ll find her weakness at all cost.

9. Recruiter x Genius. - An office worker or manager of some kind of company and a weird scientist? I like this! Headcanon: Luka is a workaholic person. She’s a person who interviews people whenever they submit resume. She's icy, sassy, and perfectionist type of person. While Kaito contrasts her, when he’s easy-going, carefree, and friendly type of person. He’s a new worker in some kind of electronics company. But Kaito miserably fails if he wanted to present his new ideas or even deigns. Luka constantly denies his “stupid” ideas, in which Kaito won’t give up for sharing his own ideas to the company! (Or an alternate that they are both teachers in a one school lol.)

10. Queen Bee x School Uniform Parka. - Bad boys x Good girls? Nah, typical. How about a little things to make it interesting? Like Bad girls x Good boys! That’s the idea! Headcanon: Luka is the school’s queen bee, beautiful, princess, queen or whatever. While Kaito is a loner who’s silent, he likes music and studying. He’s kind in others, but disgusts him since his father is believed to be a criminal who’s currently in jail. They don’t want to associate to the criminal’s son. He dreams to be a lawyer to eradicate the accusation that they throw to his father.         The circle of friends of Luka made a bet whether Luka can steal Kaito’s heart or not. She’s also famous of having a lot of boyfriends and constantly flirts with any boys who’s fallen heels for her. But Luka can’t seem to faze Kaito! Or is it...? She smirked how Kaito can blush like a naive girl in the shoujo manga after Luka stolen his first kiss!

11. After School Mode x Campus. - These modules give either: Student x Student or Student x Teacher vibe. Headcanon: #1 In every class her circle of friends talk about their crushes and they were surprised that Luka likes Kaito as her ideal type when he’s quiet, bookworm, and boring. But for Luka that’s challenging and it’s different. Luka discovered Kaito’s secret, that he had a thing for BDSM?! And most of all... HE’S A MASOCHIST?! This creeps her out, but that doesn’t stop her from having interest on him since she discovered his one and only secret.          #2 Luka is a student but she’s inlove in their math class teacher, Kaito. 12. Floral x Holiday. - I LOVE THIS MODULE SO MUCH AAAHH. Headcanon: It seems like both Luka and Kaito are on a vacation (in Paris), but they met their fates crossed. It seems like here they look like in the process of dating though?

this wasn’t what i sat down to write but

I can explain…see…roomie and I are rewatching the Fruits Basket dub because…nostalgia?? (and partly necessity, because usually I am by choice a picky "manga first sub second and dub only if you force me", especially for Fruits Basket) and well see I know that for Shigure if anything I should probably be hearing Kurama from YYH but honestly all I hear is the same sort of voice I hear from Nathan Fillion (I'm super bad with voices but roomie actually backs me up after I told her to listen for it so it's now like 80% more likely to be a thing), especially Nathan Fillion in the role of:

1) Shigure: [v.o] There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I'm the kind that pays better. Who am I? Shigure: "I'm Shigure Souma." Shigure: "Souma." Shigure: "Souma." Shigure: [v.o] Every writer needs inspiration, and I've found mine. Mitsuru: "I'm Detective Mitsuru." Mitsuru: "Mitsuru." Shigure: "Micchan?" Mitsuru: (restraining suspect) "Could you get some backup, please?" Shigure: [v.o] And thanks to my familial ties at the police department, I get to be on her case. Mitsuru: (caught reading Shigure's book in a bathroom stall by Shigure) "Oh!" Shigure: "Do I look like a killer to you?" Mitsuru: "Yes, you kill my patience." Shigure: [v.o] And together we catch killers. Mitsuru: "I hate this case." Shigure: "I know! Isn't it great?"

2) Shigure Souma is a best-selling mystery writer, and Mitsuru is the detective he's basing the lead character of his latest novel on. Mitsuru found this extremely flattering when she was first told. Now, she realizes that hell is other people. Specifically, the other person named Shigure Souma. Featuring Captain manga!Akito Souma as Shigure's very distant cousin and chief of police and actual target of flirting; Akito greatly regrets doing this favor for Shigure. Greatly. Regrets. Also featuring two other distant cousins Ritsu Souma and Kazuma Souma as sidekick detectives. If police uniforms actually came with pencil skirts and heels, which I highly doubt they do, Ritsu would be wearing that. But again, I highly doubt, so Ritsu can dress however Ritsu pleases outside of uniform. Ritsu and Micchan are dating. Akito shouldn't allow it, but Akito has already built this police station on rampant nepotism, what's a little bit of workplace relationships compared to that. Kazuma is a responsible human being who isn't ever the actual cause of hijinks. He brings coffee and common sense. 3) Everyone at the police station jokes that Micchan is actually a closer relative to any given one of them than any of the Soumas actually are to each other, it's just that her parents were weird and chose to take the not-Souma family name. Mitsuru has begged and begged them to stop one of these days someone is going to believe you guyssssss.

4) Since Shigure is a rich best-selling mystery writer bachelor with a swanky and spacious abode, he can afford to have living with him: Yuki Souma, yet another distant cousin, who was in dire need of a new housing situation. Shy and sarcastic and rarely emotes. Also picks fights constantly. A real jerk. Can you just not. Kyou Souma, look the number of people who took this last name on is ridiculous, who is staying with Shigure instead of with his (also only distantly related) foster father Kazuma for Contrived Plot Reasons obviously. He wants to be a cop just like his dad, and he'll be a great one once he gets some chill. Is going to fall in love with: Tohru Honda, 100% not a relative to anyone, who is also benefiting from the rampant Souma nepotism with a janitorial job at the police station, thus enabling her to earn her living. A lot of crazy shenanigans threw her onto Shigure's doorstep, and now she's decided to stay, and also cook and clean and generally keep the bachelors alive and the abode remaining swanky and spacious.

5) Yuki...is actually a serial killer??? No seriously is he actually a serial killer. His lack of emoting disturbingly doesn't always match his face and when he's not delivering his lines in weird soft-spoken deadpan he delivers them like a TV serial killer Tohru please don't go with him to his secret base…!!!!!!! Oh. Oh, thank goodness, it turns out that was just misdirection for the season finale, where Yuki was set up to be suspected as a serial killer! Haha! Turns out he's actually more or less a decent human being, less where Kyou's concerned, and generally a good kid. Phew. Also he enjoys a secret rooftop gardening hobby and a less secret complete inability to personally use his produce in the culinary arts.

+) Together some of these people actually catch murderers probably.

+) Oh and Hatori Souma is the medical examiner. And also a distant cousin to everyone else with the same last name. It's a ridiculously insanely huge family just go with it.

Phew got some ideas cooking and I really want to write them out, but I have to have the steps to lead me to that crucial point in the story. Where everything falls apart for our protagonists.. where hearts are crushed, spirits are broken and dreams dissipate.

Shigure is the perfect villain for this tale, because though he does not fight Kikyo directly, and never would raise his blade against her, he is still capable of delivering a deadly blow to her without physically engaging.

While she manipulates the world around her with kindness.

He does so with cruelty.

FRUITS BASKET EPISODE 12

...I’m still processing. I can’t. I come every week and just suck this anime’s proverbial dick and I don’t have much to say besides... perfectly heart wrenching? Anyways...

Let’s start off easy. Cherry blossoms! So pretty. Although all of the scenery in this anime is just gorgeous

I really adore how similar Kyo and Uo are and yet they can’t seem to stand each other. I headcanon them ending up being those kinda people who are good friends but competition is the core of their friendship and they constantly fight for Tohru’s attention and affection. (is this canon? I dunno...)

Ahaaaa... I wasn’t ready. ANYWAYS.

“You ain’t shit, Shigure” looks

I just love that Kyo was so adamant not to go that he even rejected Hana’s threatening waves (like ‘I’ve been through enough shit already, I can handle this’) but he gives in to Tohru’s wants because... Tohru 💓Just slowburn me to death. Please. Talking about slow burn...

I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT! And it was still great and still everything I hoped for. Although, in comparison to the 2001 moment, I’d probably still favour that version as it played a bit more comedic especially with Kyo’s reaction to the skeevy guys. But it’s still such a great moment! Including Kyo’s ‘like you’d take it the wrong way’, it’s great and squeeable.

Another moment I’ve been waiting for... MAKOTO FUCKIN TAKEI.

I think outfit appreciation goes to Momiji this week, obviously. #letboysweargirlsuniforms haha Grade C+ cos it’s a classic Momiji look and pretty much what we expect from him. As Haru said: ‘It’s a rule of fashion, to always wear what looks good on you’ 

DARK HARU. Always a fave.

It’s hilarious that Kyo knows that Dark Haru has taken a turn but because Kyo himself has such a fiery personality, any attempt he has to try and calm him down just ends up with him in a fight with Haru. Goddamn it, Kyo 😂

Yuki is the gay agenda.

- Also the English VA for Makoto is on fire this episode. That scream in the bathroom was everything! But yeah I think you get my point for this whole moment, very very funny and still stays as one of my top 5 moments of Fruits Basket.

- Plus, I just noticed! Tohru’s wearing Yuki’s ribbon! Super cute.

Ok... let’s get into it.

Everything about this felt perfect to me. The build up. The editing of the scenes between present and Yuki’s flashback to the room. The contrast of Akito to the spring scenery. The fact they met underneath a shadow. It’s probably the most this anime has felt like reading an actual manga, so far. I really wish I was seeing Akito from fresh eyes as it’s easy to see him as a threat when you know of the things that he’ll later do... Although, the buildup so far has been super intense so I think fresh eyed viewers totally get it.

- Also kudos x100 to the English VA for Akito, Colleen Clinkenbeard. The balance of feminine and masculine vocal tones and the sinister emphasis on certain phrases while managing to make it sound innocent is alll sooo good. 

- In a weird way... If I were to just listen to this anime and not watch it, I think I could ship Akito and Shigure just solely through their voices. They go together really well!

*TRIGGER WARNING FOR ABUSE*

Ignoring the subtitles... the shift in Yuki’s expression from when he first sees Akito to when Akito physically touches him got me wondering...

I know that in the manga, Akito’s abuse has always been described as emotional but reading this scene... I’m getting more so of a physically (maybe even sexually) abusive relationship. 

I’m not trying to glamourise it or project that emotional abuse can’t be as harrowing, but as someone who’s been close with people who have suffered from physical abuse all the visual details seem very clear to me. And the way Yuki freezes up from just Akito’s touch just gives me all the wrong impressions. (Although, you could argue that this is the effect that would happen with all the zodiac members when in contact with god, again, I don’t remember the manga that well). I’m open to discussion about this, if you guys are willing.

*TRIGGER WARNING FOR ABUSE FINISHED*

- The push that Tohru gave Akito is so in character. Even though that push looked like it wasn’t much, I love that she found herself shocked that she reacted in a ‘violent’ manner just cos she wanted to get Yuki physically away from Akito as soon as possible. I love.

Jeez, even that look back looks slightly inhuman.

AND THIS SCENE?!

That... is intense... and a little bit scary... Makes me question... whether later scenes... will be scarier... than portrayed before... I kinda hope so... *rubs hands together menacingly* 

Also, I’ve forgotten a lot of what the dynamic is between Kyo and Akito. I do know it’s mostly negative (as with all the members of the zodiac) but... is Kyo not as afraid of Akito as the other members? I mean, he’s giving him this look, but he is also behind glass and a whole level above Akito so...

- Akito calling Tohru ugly and stupid is basic bitch behaviour and in a funny way makes me feel less threatened by him

I almost wanted to get a ‘proof Shigure has a heart’ placard when I saw this scene but then I got thinking... why did Shigure decide to let Yuki stay at his place? Was it all part of his plan? Did he maybe do it because Ayame asked him too? DAMN IT, SHIGURE.

But anyways sad scenes are over, let’s get some happy scenes to round it off!

Tohru pushing away her questions of Akito’s behaviour to comfort Yuki is A+ friend behaviour! We don’t deserve Tohru.

I’m using this as an emotional palate cleanser, can you tell? Also, THIS IS THE CUTEST TOHRU HAS LOOKED.

- Kudos to Justin Cook (Hatsuharu’s English VA) as well! Such a well needed, gentle moment.

Phew, I’m kinda exhausted. Sorry, if this got a bit trigger-y but it’s just something that’s been on my mind for a while now. But this was an excellent introduction to Akito. NEXT EPISODE: AYAME! (Kind of sweet we get a wild Ayame appearance straight after this happens to Yuki, huh?)
