FE Awakening AU; Verdant Pegasi House
I finished these like 2 weeks ago but I've just been procrastinating lmao Last house‼️ Last three houses can be found here, here and here To the west lies the continent of Valm, home to the ancient gods Mila and Duma. Long ago, King Albein Alm Rudolph II and Queen Anthiese von Lima united the kingdoms to form Valentia. Union wouldn't last after their reign and as such, the continent was divided once again. Small countries throughout the land popped up, each with their unique cultures. 15 years ago, King Walhart Alm Rudolph I sought out to reunite the continent of Valm under one empire, thus crowning him Emperor. Though Valm pledged allegiance to no Gods, Tiki became a symbol of divinity and was embraced. As such, she allowed them one house in her Academy. The Verdant Pegasi gain their names from their vast and beautiful green plains and the abundance of wild Pegasi in many of their regions. They value honor, hardship, determination and kindness. Walhart II: Eldest son of the Emperor, he's determined to continue his father's rule over the continent and keep the empire afloat. Stern and headstrong, he's not afraid of a challenge. He enrolled in the Academy to strengthen his skills and hopefully make new allies. Yuu'ya: Only son of Say'ri, he embodies the image of a warrior of Chon'sin. Opposed to the united Valm, he's secretly amassing a rebel army to go against the foreign occupation of his land. Usually quiet and reserved, he rarely lets his presence be known. Kazu'sa: Oldest son of Yen'fay, he openly rejects his father's submission to Valm. He's growing to detest his father and his actions and strives to free his country. Despite having the same goals as his cousin, he's the polar opposite. Loud, brash and vulgar; he doesn't care for tradition and prefers to express himself freely. Nah: Nowi and Donnel's youngest daughter, she's pretty composed and reserved for her age. Growing up amongst so many other manaketes in the Church has allowed her to understand her culture and come to terms with her human half. Naga's descendants never usually take up any last names, but Nah insisted in taking her father's as a way to combine her two backgrounds. Aurelia: General Pheros's only daughter, she's hopes to become a Knight of Naga after graduation. She dedicates her life to her faith and holds Tiki in extremely high esteem. While she should usually inherit her house, she has stepped away from her noble lineage to pursue her dreams. Benedict: Youngest son of The Great Ignatius of Valm, his father's war prowess inspired him to follow in his footsteps. With great honor, he's taught himself all ways of magic to assist Walhart II in his future endeavors. Rumor has it, though, that he's terrified of boats. Hildegard: Daughter of Commander Farber, she's delicate as a flower. Shy, reserved and unassuming; she enrolled in the Academy to become a great healer to save lives. She fully expects to be married off for political gain, since she's a noble; but her only hope is to help those in need. Gerome: Heir to the Head of House Rosanne, Gerome focuses on his strength above all else. His father surrendering his homeland so easily to Valm has left him estranged from him over the years. He enrolled in the Academy for 2 reasons; to learn from his Mother, who's an instructor and to reunite with Lucina and the others in hopes of gaining their strength to drive back Valm. Crest of Duma: May half damage of an attack. Crest of Mila: Heals 20% of HP at the start of every turn. Crest of Chon'sin: Increases Crit chance by 20% Crest of Naga: Allows wielder to transform into a Manakete. Crest of Rosanne: May nullify effective damage

Coining an alternative term for omegaverse:
Pheros (phḗr + érōs) - Literally meaning animalistic love and referring to the concept of omegaverse aka a/b/o
Phḗr meaning animal in aeolic greek + érōs meaning love in ancient greek, I used aeolic greek for animal to avoid confusion with therianthropy and for its similarity with the word pheromone. I created it for the purpose of having a term that encompasses all dynamics not just alphas, betas, or omegas. You would use it in place of omegaverse, for instance 'I read a pheros fanfic the other day'.
#omegaverse#miscecanis#pheros#googled it and apparently its also a name fire emblem character? so cool for them ig#a/b/o

And even more fandom salt, I once got a DM on twitter from a TERF, calling me a misogynist, for saying Awakening's treatment of Excellus in the Japanese version, especially compared to characters like Pheros, was offensive.
Like the way, alot of Fire Emblem games write women is NOT feminist. Believing women can't have the same range of personalities and bodytypes as men is NOT feminism, especially when you're also vilifying trans women.
Well there's your problem right there, don't listen to TERFs about feminism, their barometer for that is fucked
I literally don't know anyone who'd argue that the fire emblem games are broadly feminist vs having good female characters in some ways, and having well-written female characters is good on it's own! Have them! But feminism is like a specific movement. With ideals. That Fire Emblem consistently doesn't meet and isn't trying to meet.
But again, TERFs don't know what feminism is and their takes don't matter so 100% block and move on, not even worth paying attention to

Contre nous de la tyrannie
A commission for @realfroghoursninetofive. Also on AO3. If you’d like to support my ongoing projects, toss me a Ko-Fi!
The Valmese occupation had been going on long enough that it seemed like a fact of life. Most of the citizens of Chon’sin’s capital had adjusted to the presence of foreign soldiers in their streets--if not welcomingly, at least with resignation. Apart from the hourly patrols, the armored cars, and the nightly curfews, life continued as usual.
The Grand Cathedral of Naga, built hundreds of years ago at the request of the old Valentian royalty, was a bulwark of calm and comfort in these turbulent times. Its bishop, Tiki, was revered as a voice of wisdom, and her words during the weekly services were a balm to the troubled hearts of the people.
The sun was setting as the church bells tolled out the end of worship, and the congregation filed out toward the doors. A few of them, however, lingered--most notably, a golden-haired woman in the neatly pressed uniform of a Valmese officer. She held her cap respectfully tucked under one arm and stood at the base of the lectern, waiting patiently for the bishop’s attention. Her aides waited just out of earshot, looking somewhat less at ease.
“Your Excellency.”
“Major Pheros,” said Tiki, inclining her head politely. “To what do I owe the honor?”
“I simply wished to commend you on another excellent sermon,” said Pheros with a faint smile. “You have an admirable way with words.”
“So you have told me.” Tiki adjusted the set of her clerical collar. “I must admit, I had not expected an officer of the Valmese army to be one of my most appreciative congregants.”
“Expected us all to be heathen invaders, did you?” The major’s mouth twitched into a rueful smirk. “Well, I suppose that would be a fair assessment of some of us. Why, just the other day, some fool was frothing over one of your recent services, saying you preached sedition!”
“Oh, my,” said Tiki, her voice still mild. “I am surprised that I did not hear of such accusations earlier.”
“I set the fool straight,” said Pheros, waving a hand dismissively. “It was his own fault for not recognizing words straight out of the testaments.”
“I take it that you have some familiarity with the scriptures?”
“I do, yes.” The Valmese woman looked almost wistful. “I was supposed to have entered seminary two years ago, but… well.” She gestured to the rank bars pinned to her lapel.
“You could have chosen not to fight,” said Tiki. “The testaments teach the value of peace, not of war. Perhaps that is why your brother in arms found them to seem seditious.”
Pheros let out a short, mirthless laugh. “Careful, Your Excellency. Less discerning ears might think you were urging me to abandon my duties--and that would be sedition.”
“Not at all.” Tiki’s expression betrayed nothing. “I simply wish to understand you better, as any good priestess would. You must, of course, follow your conscience.”
The clack of boots on the stone floor drew their attention, as one of the other Valmese soldiers stepped forward. “Major, we should be on our way. Our patrol begins soon.”
“Of course, lieutenant. There is no telling what manner of havoc the resistance might cause if left unchecked.” Pheros tucked her cap securely onto her head and gave Tiki a shallow bow, a small smirk still lingering on her lips. “Be safe, Your Excellency.”
“Goddess be with you, my child,” said Tiki, extending a hand in benediction.
As the last of the congregation left, and the doors of the cathedral shut behind them, Tiki looked pensively after them. It was an interesting conversation, but I wonder… were either of us sincere in our goodbyes?
The crypts beneath the cathedral, where generations of Valentian royalty had been interred, were usually shrouded in impenetrable stillness. Footsteps fell dead, swallowed up by the porous stone and thick dust, and the labyrinthine corridors made the mere act of walking around disorienting.
Tiki navigated them with practiced care, never making a wrong turn as she wove her way downward, a covered basket in one hand and a pewter candle tray in the other. The flame guttered at occasional drafts, but she paid it no mind.
At last, she reached her goal: a nondescript wooden door with a heavy iron lock. The room on the other side was almost completely bare, with only iron sconces on the walls and an old statue of the Earth Mother breaking the monotony of its walls. Tiki looked down the hallway in both directions, ensuring that nobody was around, before going inside and locking the door behind her.
Once there, she set her candle and basket on the floor and approached the statue. She knelt down to pray, hands brushing against the cold stones of the floor. Grant me wisdom, Goddess, that I might carry out thy will here on earth.
Her palm fell upon a stone that protruded slightly more than the ones around it. She grasped it tightly and gave it a firm twist. The floor shook slightly, and the deep rumble of stone and metal grating against one another filled the room as the statue slid ponderously to one side, revealing a narrow staircase leading down. Tiki picked up her candle again and followed it.
The existence of this passage was a closely guarded secret in the church--Tiki could count on one hand the others who knew of its existence. The passage led to the old catacombs beneath the city, a maze of mass graves from the time of the plague. It was a holdout from an earlier era, when the church had granted sanctuary to those who opposed tyranny.
In that respect, nothing much has changed.
She reached the end of the passageway and knocked on the door. After a moment’s pause, a voice answered.
“You may come in. Not that you need my permission.”
“Perhaps not, but it is polite to knock.” Tiki eased open the door and smiled at the woman sitting on the cot inside. Say’ri’s appearance had changed somewhat over the past two years: her skin was paler than usual from lack of sunlight, and her expression much more careworn.
The room itself was sparse: the cot along one wall, covered in threadbare blankets; a desk and chair opposite, with a rifle and cleaning supplies laid out on the surface and a dingy clock hanging on the wall above; and a curtained-off corner for toilet and shower. It seemed more like a prison cell than a refuge. Perhaps that is what it feels like to her, too.
“Are you well?” said Tiki in an attempt at normal conversation. Her guest shrugged.
“As well as can be expected. To what do I owe the visit?”
Tiki held out the basket. “Here. It may not be warm, but it should be filling enough.”
Say’ri pulled back the cloth covering the basket and smiled at the food inside. “It would be the height of rudeness to complain of such things, given the risks you already take in sheltering me here.”
“I do not consider it as such,” said Tiki. “We are called by the Goddess to care for those who are in need. This is a duty, and one that I take seriously.”
Say’ri looked as if she was considering a response, but after a moment she simply nodded her thanks. “What news of the war?”
“A continued stalemate.” Tiki pulled out the chair from the desk and sat. “The Feroxi forces are dug in and fortified, and even the Imperial artillery will have trouble dislodging them. As for the Ylissean front… well, more of the same.”
“People fight, people die, and the lines don’t budge.” Say’ri gritted her teeth. “I feel so helpless, just hiding in the shadows...”
“Yet you can hardly appear in public. Your brother--”
“That damned collaborator is not my brother!” Say’ri snapped. “My brother would not have given in so easily when the empire came!”
Tiki sighed. “Marshal Yen’fay, then. In his eyes, and those of the empire, you are a wanted criminal.”
Yen’fay had been in command of the Chon’sin army at the time of the Valmese invasion, but in the face of their overwhelming might, he had quickly negotiated a surrender. In return, he had been allowed to retain some administrative authority over the country.
Say’ri had disagreed vehemently. She and the officers loyal to her had sworn to fight on, refusing to abide to an agreement they saw as invalid. Thus had begun the Chon’sin Resistance, a constant thorn in Valm’s side.
The silence was finally broken, as the clock chimed softly. Say’ri stood, grabbing her long coat from where it lay on the floor and sliding it on. “I must be going.”
“The Valmese patrols will be out tonight,” Tiki warned.
“They always are.” Say’ri picked up her rifle from the desk and affixed a shoulder strap to it. “But my soldiers are counting on me to lead them.”
“You cannot continue like this forever.” There was an almost pleading note in Tiki’s voice, mixed with resignation. She already knew anything she said to dissuade Say’ri would be in vain.
“I cannot. But there is no need for that. I will simply continue until the war is finished, or until I am… whichever comes first.” Her eyes were hard and determined. “As long as I draw breath, I will fight on.”
Say’ri made a few final adjustments to her equipment, checking that her spare ammunition was secure, before nodding to herself in satisfaction. “All set.” She inclined her head to Tiki, smiling faintly. “I’ll be off, then. Stay safe.”
“Goddess be with you,” said Tiki.
She stood in the empty room for a long while as the sound of Say’ri’s footsteps faded into the distance.
Goddess be with us all.

Kaga said making Hilda as evil as she was difficult for him, but he still made her like that and made her old/unpleasant looking. Similarly FE4 had several other minor female bosses that were nasty and unpleasant. Also whilst not as much as the male bosses, they were made to look evil/nasty.
IS not only made Eremiya, an innocent brainwashed into evil, but she was still inexplicably young and beautiful looking despite being middle aged at least. They also made the only female enemies in Mystery of the Emblem to be kidnapped victims.
Oh and in the remake of Gaiden, they made ALL witches brainwashed victims AND had Celica brainwashed, all things that never happened in the original.
And we also have:
Actually every 3DS era has had a brainwashed female antagonist and not even ONE intelligent System developed Fire Emblem game since Radiant Dawn has had a female villain acting of her own agency.
New Mystery of the Emblem: Eremiya is mindcontrolled and this is revealed at the very last minute by the point when the Audience has no time left to empathize with her after all her ridiculous acts and has no effect given we knew the true Eremiya to begin with. They also retconned the one and only instance of female enemy troops in the original game to be kidnapped victims.
Awakening: Besides Aversa being brainwashed, Pheros explicitly only fights because she's in love with Walhart, Raimi battles only due to a misunderstanding, and Excellus is presented as a transwoman, thus acceptable to use violence on.
Fates: Arete is resurrected and mindcontrolled by Anankos to obey him.
Echoes Shadows of Valentia: Witches go from female cultists to brainwashed victims, which is emphasized constantly in remake original dialogue. Rather than fighting her way out like in the original, Celica gets brainwashed by Jedah and turned into a witch, requiring Alm to snap her out.
But wait, what about Nuibaba? Well the artbook reveals all she wanted to be was a housewife, but an evil rake turned her sister again her and murdered her, resulting in Medusa reviving Nuibaba as a shell of her former self.
Yeah, Kaga's not great and has his own issues, but one is definitely worse than the other in this case. It should be noted that the person that promoted "Kaga brainwashing fetish, LOL", was a huge proponent of Kusakihara. If brainwashing women is anyone's fetish, its Kusakihara's.
And we also have:
Not the same anon who mentioned post-Kaga IS being squeamish about evil women, but I think I get where they're coming from. (They'll probably explain too but) IS, not so much post-Kaga but rather post-avatar insert, seems very hesitant to make a female villain who leans more into her villainy than her sympathetic traits. Kaga explicitly stated he was uncomfortable with evil women like FE4 Hilda, and while she does have some pitiable circumstances like her son and husband being killed (for being active participants of military occupation lmao), it's still not emphasized for her character as much as her glee for personally making Tailtiu and the hunted children suffer, nor is it used to justify or excuse her malice. Now post-FE12, it's hard to find a villainous woman in FE that wasn't abused, brainwashed, and/or just has her evil deeds swept under the rug as an excuse for why she had to act so darn evil. About the only place that gets exceptions to the rules is FEH, and occasionally those excuses also get slipped in for some characters (Freya, Veronica).
And we also have
May as well add this to the Kaga thing, but I'm not saying Kaga is by any means perfect and he definitely suffers from benevolent sexism as well, that said he seems better by comparison and "this female antagonist whom seemed evil but was really a brainwashed victim all along" is something that became prominent after Kaga left Intelligent Systems.
The Kaga Saga games did have stuff like a girl willingly fighting the player characters because they killed her uncle for example, in addition to some evil women.
I have noticed with Kaga's evil women, they do tend to be middle aged and evil looking, albeit not to the extent of the male villains whom tend to have more "ugly" features.
Though most of Kaga's evil characters tend to be middle aged and not attractive in general, with the exception of Kempf clones, actually Kempf inspired characters showed up in alot of Kaga's games.
Sorry if the formatting on these is weird, but the new Tumblr post editor does not like letting me change the format of multiple paragraphs at once. I tried to keep the messages all together.
Anyway, thanks everyone for sharing!
I do say I give Arete and Fates a pass just because like everyone who opposes you in Rev are are brainwashed Anankos minions. Arete, Mikoto, Sumeragi, Gunther, Garon, and Takumi are all brainwash victims. If you bring in Heirs of Fate you can kind of add all of the father characters to that list, too. I really don't think it's on the same level of egregious as, say, SoV's handling of female characters (where basically every female character is brainwashed or needs to be rescued from kidnapping).
Having not played a lot of the Kaga-era games I get the impression that our post-Kaga world is sexist about evil women, just in a different way from the Kaga era. Back then it was just a general lack of acknowledgement that women existed, intentionally trying to make them old and ugly "witches" that you won't sympathize, and general disbelief that women can be evil. In the modern era it's more about removing their agency and trying to keep them appealing for marketability purposes.
I think it's also kind of hard to compare the two because... Kaga was making games on NES and SNES carts with kilobytes of space to actually put your game on vs. modern era where games can be a lot more eloquent and in-depth about the story and the characters and backstories because they have the space to do so.

*checks which one that is cause i seriously dont remember the number alignments of fire emblem games*
ah, fire emblem the force awakens, right
ok so tai fireemblemawakening! their base class is myrmidon just like lon’qu bc they grew up in chon’sin but left the country to become a mercenary. on their travels one day they encountered pheros (before she became a general of walhart’s army but she was already working under walhart) bc they were both sent to deal with the same band of bandits that was camping out in an area - tai was hired to chase off or kill the bandits while pheros was sent to recruit the bandits to work for walhart. but instead pheros and tai got in a fight and fought to a standstill, which left pheros impressed enough with tai’s skill that she asked them to join walhart instead, which tai refused and she left. however tai developed an unrequited crush on pheros and they kept hoping they’d see her again on another assignment for the years to come
the way tai gets into the shepherds is that they get hired to steal the sol katti from a plegian vault, but they get discovered and use the sword to escape. unfortunately the plegian army pursues them, which leads into their paralogue where chrom decides to fight off the pursuing plegians and ends up recruiting tai into the shepherds. at this point the timelines kind of diverge but basically either tai can end up s-supporting with cordelia (in which they bond over their unrequited crushes and eventually get over them and fall for each other instead) or if the player waits until chapter 17 tai can be used to recruit pheros into the shepherds (by talking to her while she’s at half health) and they can s-support together instead
so like. in case of unclear the f/os for this one are cordelia and pheros
thank you for the ask @dokiquents!!!
