My headcanon is that Charles’ powers, being of the brain variety, require ungodly amounts of glucose. He’s been known to eat sugar out of a bowl.

Let’s talk about the writing of Charles Xavier.
Okay, so we all hate the way everyone turned on Charles in DP, right? But it’s not based on nothing, you gotta hear me out rn.
Charles means well, and does mostly well, but he’s still an idiot, he’s still a man.
Yes he does so much good work for the school and for mutants, he lost everything over and over again, but he isn’t perfect.
No one is perfect, and I think the writing and James mcavoys acting manages to make such a human portrayal this way.
Hes not the golden boy, he’s not the shining hero, he has many sides just like a real person.
Of course he’s mostly wonderful, his deepest desire is to enact peace. As child he took in Raven without a second thought, a time in our development when we tend to be less empathetic. You’ve seen the way he cares for Erik and the others, he absolutely means it.
But it’s those little imperfections that make him such a beautiful character.
He’s can be cocky, certainly when he had just gotten his PhD, I now this brat was the top of his class and smug about it.
He’s also allowed to be selfish, he wants Raven, he wants Erik, he wants things desperately.
And sometimes he may have made mistakes when blinded by his ambitions.
Accidentally outing Hank? Kinda shit. Using his powers to make that guy get in the car? Unnecessary.
But he’s allowed to be this way, the writing allows it, and James Mcavoy portrays it perfectly.
This is how you write a character.
He isn’t always that shining beacon of hope, especially in dofp.
Anyone could’ve taken Charles character of “Leader of the xmen, strives for world peace” and made him an absolute angel all of the time. But people don’t work like that.
Charles Xavier gives me the vibe of someone who was an absolute menace during educational years, maybe even a dickhead.
I can see him saying some pretty idiotic shit to people that maybe he was trying to flirt with, maybe even making people feel bad about themselves.
Bro might have even been a bully in the perspective of some; this dashing clever guy who always knows what you’re thinking.
Now I don’t think he was actually a bully, he is a whole nerd after all, but maybe to those even nerdier than him.
Can you imagine another, nerdier, student being like “I fucking hate Charles Xavier and his stupid fucking smug face, why does he have to be top of the class, I hate him.”
And Charles not giving a rats ass about that person.
And now he’s grown, right from the day of getting his PhD, when he met Moira, he began to properly grow.
He’s always been kind at heart, even if his confidence had come across as arrogance. He’d never actually want to cause anyone upset, but it happens, and there are times where he could’ve helped that.
He tries so hard now, every stage of Charles life I expect he looks back on his past self with embarrassment. “God I was an idiot why did I do that, I’m far superior now.”
Charles is probably the most thoroughly human character in the entire franchise, and it rubs off on those around him. Even if none of them are actually human, and I think maybe that’s the point?
That’s the point of the movie. Look at how human the mutants are, and how human the humans aren’t. Of course Charles sees past that, whether he believes it or not, he wants everyone to be equal.
I’m sure you already knew all of this, but people really like it when I yap about the old gay men, so here <3

Tumblr media
name: michaela isabella fiore

day of birth: june 22nd, 1968 (32 in X Men 1)
height: 5'6
category: mutant (alpha level)
abilities: chlorokinesis, toxikinesis, toxic immunity, genius
residence: xavier school for gifted youngsters
occupation: doctor and biology teacher
affliction: x-men (since 1990)
state: alive
Tumblr media
history
"early life"
Michaela Isabella Fiore, born on 22 June 1968, daughter of Paul and Francesca Fiore in the borough of Brooklyn, New York. Both are children of first-generation Italian immigrants to the United States. Working class, they ran a flower shop in North Brooklyn. Currently retired.
The first mutant gene samples are demonstrated in a biology class during primary school. According to the teacher's reports, during an experiment where students were asked to grow a bean in a beaker, Fiore's plant grew "abnormally". Other school reports state that, during high school, girls who were picking on Michaela reported to the teacher that Fiore had planted manure in her lockers. It was never proven.
Michaela continued her studies and was awarded one of the Xavier Scholarships for Gifted and Talented Youth at New York University, where she graduated with a major in Botanical Biology and Toxicology and a minor in Genetics, where she met Sara Kinney. She later obtained her PhD at Oxford, with a thesis on assisted mutation in various plants for medical purposes.
"xavier school for gifted youngsters and X Men"
Since her doctorate at Oxford in 1990, Michaela Fiore has been a registered biology teacher at Xavier School for gifted youngsters. She is also a member of the X Men team, along with Scott Summer alias Cyclops, Jean Grey alias Marvel Girl, Ororo Munroe alias Storm, Kurt Wagner alias Nightclawer and Hank McCoy alias Beast.
However, Fiore's work is more oriented towards laboratory work and the development of new ways to treat the injured mutants who come to the school.
Some field missions are recorded. Despite little hand-to-hand training, Fiore's skills allow her to get the upper hand in a ranged fight.
During the 2000s, the X Men had several clashes with the notorious ex-terrorist Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants. As well as battles against the government against the Mutant Registration Act and the "Mutation Cure". Both Dr. Fiore and Dr. Grey advocated against both of these in Congress.
During this time, new members join the X-Men: Remy LeBeau aka Gambit, Anna Marie aka Rogue, Piotr "Peter" Nikolaievitch Rasputin aka Colossus, Robert Louis "Bobby" Drake aka Ice-Man, Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde aka Shadowcat and Logan Howlett aka Wolverine.
...
2006➜ ERROR, FILE NOT FOUND
ONE SHOTS SET AFTER DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
Currently, the X Men grouping is still unleashed by Scott Summers aka Cyclops, Ororo Munroe aka Storm and Logan Howlett aka Wolverine. Michaela Fiore does not take part in the field missions and shares the position of deputy director with Dr. Jean Grey.
The Sentinel menace was stopped in 1973 by a mutant named Mystique, who saved the president from Magneto.
currently, 2024 (nobody's dead, we're all happy and forgetting the timeline, FUCK TVA)
The school remains the same as it has been all these years, but the threats don't stop. Recently, records came in about a trafficking of mutant children being experimented on by an illegal organisation on the Mexican border.
The X Men are working on it at the moment.
character analysis
Michaela is a kind and optimistic person. Over the years she has gained more experience and control over her powers, which makes her a confident person. At first she was reluctant to be introduced to the X-Men, but her colleagues convinced her.
She spends much of her time in the underground lab at X-Mansion, alongside Jean Grey and, on occasion, Hank McCoy.
Her first encounter with Logan, aka Wolverine, was not a pleasant one. The mutant awoke from his coma (induced by the Professor) altered and confused, so he attacked Michaela and scarred her back with his claws. Michaela, in response, put him to sleep with chloroform, until the Professor arrived.
The two slowly, slowly worked out their differences.
For their personalities clash quite a lot. Logan is a lone wolf, while Michaela is all about teamwork. But according to Cyclops, they're both equally annoying.
Despite appearances, constant bickering and "mutual hatred", there is a pact of respect between the two. They will never say it to each other's faces, but they are very fond of each other. (Everybody knows it, except them).
now some headcannons
The X Men affectionately refer to Michaela as Mickey or Dr. Mickey.
Logan refers to her as "kid".
Mickey refers to him as "old dog".
Mickey wears a necklace with a St. James medal, a legacy from her paternal grandfather Jimmy Fiore.
Mickey doesn't know that Logan's real name is James.
The children shipped their biology teacher and the history teacher (i.e. them).
Michaela was upset after Logan's departure after fighting Magneto.
And when he left again.
And again.
He has commitment issues (no shit).
Apparently he always fixes it when he comes back.
The X Men always party when he comes back, they go to a bar a few miles from the school.
Our girl can't stand alcohol (she's given Logan endless lectures on the problems of alcohol), but on these occasions she has a margarita or two.
Bad idea.
She's a lightweight.
Very funny until she throws up.
Logan always ends up looking after her.
But not without laughing the next morning, delivering her own sermons against her.
Again, children SHIP them.
Bobby tried to lock them in a classroom. It was fun until Logan chased him all over the mansion.
Logan offers to teach Michaela how to fight.
She has improved a lot.
He always ends up in a cold shower.
Sometimes they are found in the kitchen at night, or in the greenhouse or laboratory.
Logan suffers from chronic nightmares, about his past, about Weapon X, PTSD...
Michaela is only used to little or no sleep. She lives in a mansion with hundreds of children, there must always be someone awake.
They do not normally speak at these meetings.
The next morning it's back to normal.
Michaela lives in coffee.
Logan hates coffee.
Logan always makes Michaela coffee.
They will end up together. For sure. But there are bets hanging around.
Even Magneto, in his plastic prison, asks the Professor for updates.
"Any news on...?" "Not that I know of." "For God's sake, Charles! You're a mind reader!"

The Next Step Is Evolution & White Wolf and Polaris
to my X-Men (episode 10)
episode 9 - episode 11
warning and some informations:
Hello, as I mentioned before, we are in a story that runs parallel to the MCU (we start after FATWS), but since there is no X-Men movie in the main cinematic universe (616) and I find the previous ones successful, I am trying to go in parallel with the comics.
It may contain spoilers from some of the comics in the Marvel main universe 616, but for those who haven't read them, I try not to include major events that would spoil the fun.
Now that we've officially arrived at the episodes that will take place inside the Academy, I'm here with a small character introduction section, such as who are the characters that are currently in the Academy, what are their powers, what are their appearance and their identities.
the images are representative, I used actors who have played the role before or the most suitable celebrities in my head. for the casting it's free to shoot, we can take ideas and discuss them.
Tumblr media
Charles Xavier - Charles Francis Xavier
Tumblr media
As a mutant rights activist, he fought for peace and equality between mutants and humans against both anti-mutant people and groups such as the Brotherhood of Mutants, which advocated the domination of normal humans by mutants. Charles Xavier, who also holds PhDs in genetics, biophysics, psychology and anthropology, founded Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters to educate and provide a home for young mutants who are outcasts from society and have difficulty controlling their powers.
Xavier visits his friend Daniel Shomron, who runs a clinic for traumatized Holocaust victims in Haifa, Israel, where he meets Erik Lehnsherr, a Holocaust survivor who volunteers at the clinic, and Gabrielle Haller, whose trauma has left her in a catatonic coma. Xavier uses his mental powers to save her from her catatonia and the two fall in love. Xavier and Magneto become good friends, but neither immediately reveals to the other that he is a mutant. The two have long discussions to hypothesize what would happen if humanity faced a new race of super-powered humans. While Xavier is optimistic, Magneto's experiences in the Holocaust lead him to believe that humanity will eventually crush the new human race as it has done to other minorities. The two friends show their strength to each other as they battle Nazi Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and the HYDRA agents who kidnapped Gabrielle because she knows the location of their secret stash of gold. Magneto tries to kill Strucker, but Xavier stops him. Realizing that his and Xavier's views on mutant-human relations are incompatible, Magneto leaves with the gold. Charles stays in Israel for a while, but he and Gabrielle leave without knowing that she is pregnant with his son, who grows up to become the mutant Legion.
On Muir Island, Charles meets his ex-girlfriend Gabrielle Haller and learns that they have a child. The child, David (Legion), is autistic and suffers from multiple personality disorder and, like his father, has immense psionic powers. After Xavier helps him and his team to escape David's mind, he promises to always be there for him.
Tumblr media
✗ Mystique - Raven Darkhölme
Tumblr media
She was discovered by Charles Xavier, who was also a mutant like her. As a child, she was feared and ostracized by society because of her blue color, unusual patterns, red hair and yellow eyes. He accidentally enters Xavier's house and meets him there. She spends her time with Xavier until she grows up. Since society has not yet discovered Mutants, she wanders around disguised as another human. Later on, she becomes obsessed with her appearance; with Xavier's permission, she joins Eric Lencer (Magneto), whom Xavier meets by chance and with whom he helps her to take revenge, and with whom she later disagrees (Eric thinks that humans will exclude and destroy mutants, Xavier thinks the opposite). She continues her adventure with Magneto from then on.
During her years with Erik, the two fell in love, but Erik took advantage of Raven's abilities to get her to do his dirty work. During those years, Raven adopts and raises a young mutant girl that Erik and Raven have in common. Maintaining a mother-daughter relationship with Anna Maria for many years, Raven is forced to leave the X-Men again after her daughter accuses her of betrayal during a secret mission and Logan comes after her.
In a long chase that stretches all the way to Afghanistan, Logan leaves Raven for dead. But Raven somehow manages to get out of this situation and, accepting that she will not make things right with her daughter, she returns to her brother Charles and devotes herself to helping him and his son.
Tumblr media
Wolverine - James "Logan" Wowlett
Tumblr media
James Howlett is a mutant born in Canada in the late 1880s, supposedly to John and Elizabeth Howlett. I say “supposedly” because James is actually the son of Thomas Logan, the housekeeper. Thomas, an alcoholic and abusive character, is kicked out of the mansion after his other son Dog attempts to rape a girl named Rose. Thomas, who has been drinking heavily and decides to return for revenge, arrives at the mansion in the evening, causes a riot and kills John Howlett with a rifle. This is where James' mutant powers, the claws, kick in and kill Thomas (yes, his real father). After this, James runs away with Rose and works among the miners for years under the name “Logan”. However, one day, when he accidentally kills Rose with his claws in an incident involving his old nemesis Dog, he surrenders himself to the wilderness out of grief and becomes a hermit.
Logan lives for years in the wilderness with wolves until he is captured and imprisoned in a circus. He escapes from the circus with the help of Victor Creed's (Sabretooth) brothers Clara and Saul. However, Saul wants to deliver Logan to Nathaniel Essex, the future Mister Sinister. Logan ends up killing both Nathaniel Essex and Saul (Essex does not die). After the events, Logan makes a partial return to civilization and lives with the Blackfoot Indians in Canada for a while. However, Silver Fox, the woman he was with at the time, is killed by Victor Creed. Burying his grief in his heart, he decides to join the army and serves in the Canadian army during the First World War. Later, he moves to Japan and marries a woman named Itsu and they give birth to a child named Daken. However, Logan will not know about the existence of his son for a long time for a number of reasons.
After a career as a mercenary in World War II and a stint with Captain America, Logan joins the CIA's Team X, a secret CIA team with uncanny members like Sabretooth and Omega Red. Just when he's done there, he is kidnapped by the Weapon X program while serving in the Canadian Department of Defense. His bones are encased in adamantium and his memory is completely erased.
With his bloody escape from Weapon X's grasp, history repeats itself and Logan is once again living like an animal in the wild.
He is invited to join the X-Men by Professor Charles Xavier. During his years at the academy, a love triangle between Jean Grey, Wolverine and Cyclops has been going on for a long time.
However, his life changed when Scott left the Academy, Jean disappeared for other reasons and Lorna came to the Academy.
Tumblr media
Polaris - Lorna Dane
Tumblr media
Lorna lost her mother and stepfather in a plane crash at a young age. Lorna lost her mother and stepfather in a plane crash at a young age. She had to grow up without ever knowing her real father. The Dane family raised her and after some time, due to the events that took place, the Sentinal League started hunting mutants. Lorna was one of the first targets. The Sentinal Alliance killed the Dane family and Lorna joined the Outsiders, a Mutant organization made up of members who could not join the X-Men.
While with the Outsiders, she became Sinister's protégé and began working at the Casino. Although she did not possess mutant powers, she rose through the ranks at the Casino and became untouchable thanks to the reputation of Magneto, who she later learned was her father. During her time there, she met Remy, a thief, and they had a relationship that lasted for several years.
When Charles Xaiver took Lorna into his care, she left the Casino and her old life behind. Here she devoted herself to the health and control of her brother David's (Legion) powers. During her first years at the Academy, she had a short-lived relationship with Havok, but as their training and dreams did not align, they mutually decided to end the relationship and remain friends.
As Lorna became worn down by the constant battles between her family and her so-called father, she found a haven in Logan. Although there was no emotional connection between the two at first, they managed to heal each other's wounds and began to enjoy each other's company.
Exactly six days after the second blip took place and half the universe was restored, Lorna suffered a stroke. And the mutant genes she inherited from her father were activated. Although it is not known what triggered the genes, Lorna knows that she will have to finally come face to face with her father.
Tumblr media
Legion - David Charles Heller
Tumblr media
While working at an Israeli psychiatric facility, Charles Xavier met a patient named Gabrielle Haller. The two had a relationship which, after an amicable ending, resulted in the birth of their son David, unbeknownst to Xavier (Gabrielle did not tell Xavier that she was pregnant).
At a young age, David was living in Paris with his mother and stepfather when his home was attacked by terrorists and his stepfather was killed. The trauma of the situation caused the first manifestation of David's mutant powers, as David burned the minds of the terrorists. In the process, he inadvertently absorbed the mind of terrorist leader Jemail Karami into his own mind. Linked to many others during their deaths, David was rendered catatonic for years. As he slowly recovered, he moved into the care of Moira MacTaggert at the Muir Island mutant research facility. The trauma (possibly linked to the nature of his reality-altering powers) had caused David's psyche to split into multiple personalities, each exhibiting different mutant abilities.
The Karami personality, which exhibited telepathic abilities, struggled for years to separate its consciousness from David's. In the process, Karami integrated most of the fragmented personalities back into David's core personality (thus ending David's catatonia). Some personalities resisted Karami, most notably Jack Wayne, a cool adventurer who was telekinetic, and Cyndi, a temperamental, rebellious girl who was pyrokinetic. Ultimately, Karami, Wayne and Cyndi continued to exist as David's most prominent alternate personalities.
During his time on Muir Island, David accessed the telekinetic abilities of the Jack Wayne persona and saved Moira and Wolfsbane from a fatal accident. However, this allowed Jack Wayne to take control of David's body and he left the island. The New Mutants tracked him down and after a struggle convinced Wayne to allow David to regain control. Shortly after, David was possessed by the Shadow King. While under the Shadow King's influence, David killed the mutant Destiny and destroyed 2/3 of the island. When the X-Men and X-Factor defeated the Shadow King, David was again left in a coma.
After much effort by Charles and the X-Men, David recovered somewhat. Under the control of his sister Lorna and other members of the family, he began to take control of his powers. And he was admitted to a clinic in New York. As unhappy as he was in the clinic, he was considered relatively good because he didn't burn people's brains out. During Blip, he was taken out of the clinic by Lorna and brought home, and in five years he was more himself than he had ever been. Until half the universe came back and continued to plague David's mind.
Tumblr media
✗ Storm - Ororo Monroe
Tumblr media
Ororo Munroe was born in Kenya, the daughter of N'Dare, a tribal princess, and David Munroe, an American photographer. After her mother N'Dare married, she and her father moved to Manhattan and Ororo was born there. When she was only 7 months old, she moved with her family to Egypt. When she was 5 years old, a plane crashed into their house during the Arab-Israeli conflict. Ororo was trapped in the wreckage of their house with the bodies of her mother and father, and from that day on she suffered from claustrophobia, an event that affected her greatly. Orphaned and homeless, Ororo is now alone on the streets. A member of a gang of thieves finds him and takes her to their leader, Achmed el-Gibar. Ororo learns the finer points of being a thief and soon becomes a master street thief. During this time, Ororo steals the wallet of an American tourist, not realizing that the person he is stealing from is Charles Xavier, master telepath and founder of the X-Men. Xavier stops him with a telepathic attack and Ororo barely escapes. Years later, Ororo leaves Egypt because of her great curiosity for the south. During her journey she is nearly raped by a stranger who offers her a ride to her destination, but she is forced to kill him in self-defense and from that day on Ororo vows never to take another life.
As her journey south continues, Ororo has to cover many kilometers on foot and is exhausted. As she is dying of thirst in the Sahara Desert, her mutan powers manifest themselves for the first time, making it rain in the middle of the desert. Soon after, she also develops the power to control the weather, which she uses to rescue T'Challa, the prince of Wakanda.
Storm continues her journey and eventually arrives in Kenya, her mother's homeland, where, thanks to her mutant powers, she is dubbed a goddess by many of Kenya's tribes, who begin to worship her.
After some time has passed, Charles Xavier uses his telepathic powers to locate her and travel to Kenya to convince her to join the X-Men, a group of mutants fighting for the peaceful coexistence of humanity and mutants. Ororo does not want to accept at first. But Charles Xavier manages to convince her and gives her the name “Storm”. From that day on, Ororo is called Storm and becomes part of the X-Men.
Upon Cyclops' departure from the group, she took over the leadership and proved to the whole group how successful she was in leadership with the smart decisions she made in difficult conditions and situations.
* Storm married Black Panther, the King of Wakanda, in a sumptuous wedding and left the X-Men as the queen of Wakanda. During this time, she helped her husband in many ways and ruled as a queen in Wakanda.
Tumblr media
Rogue - Anna Maria
Tumblr media
It copies the power and memory of the person it touches with 20 times the duration of the touch. But each person leaves a part of them in their mind.
The first time she kisses her boyfriend Cody, her power is unleashed and puts him in a coma. With this fear and ostracization, she runs away from home. Mystique finds her and takes her in as her own daughter, teaching her how to use her powers. And one day these powers are given to Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers). For some unknown reason (possibly as a result of Ms. Marvel's Kree genetics) she permanently absorbs all her powers. She can now fly as well as touch and absorb power. Her body becomes invulnerable and she is able to lift great weights. Rogue's powers then undergo another transformation, and she can now use the powers of those she has touched at will.
Rogue first fights alongside Mystique in the League of Evil Hybrids, headed by “Magneto”. Meanwhile, The Avengers, Space Paladin Rom, and eventually the X-Men clash with her and she almost single-handedly defeats the X-Men. But he escapes at the urging of Ms. Marvel in her mind, she escapes and consults Charles Xaiver. She is accepted into the X-Men. Initially met with hostility, Rogue begins to assert herself in a fight when Wolverine steps forward as if sacrificing her own life to save the life of her lover.
After this incident, a sister-brother relationship begins between her and Logan. Of course, with Logan's power to heal her, she is the only person Anna can hug and touch without fear.
Deep painful love with Gambit, not being able to touch loved ones, people to be saved, mutants… Rogue, who fights for her life between these tides, is one of the most beloved and at the same time one of the most annoying members of the Academy with her beauty and attitude.
Tumblr media
Jubilee - Jubilation Lee
Tumblr media
Jubilation Lee was born into a wealthy Chinese family in Bevery Hills. Professionally involved in gymnastics, Jubilee's childhood years were filled with prosperity and family bliss, but they ended when her father went bankrupt. While the family was still coping, two hit men known as Reno and Molokai mistook mother and father Lee for their upstairs neighbors and murdered them. After this incident, Jubilee turned into a rebellious girl and was placed in an orphanage in Los Angeles. During her stay at the orphanage, Jubilee dealt with too many problems and caused more problems. As a result, when she was about to be transferred to a harsher orphanage, she ran away from the orphanage and started living in a shopping center hiding and stealing leaves.
Because Jubilee had become so callous because of what had happened to her family and her orphanage experience, her thefts were not hard to detect. One day mall security caught her red-handed and a chase ensued. During the chase, Jubilee became so stressed that her hands released orbs of energy, which she would later call 'fireworks', and this energy neutralized the security guards. Thus Jubilee discovered her mutant powers.
Although Jubilee finally realized that she was a mutant, she did not realize the value of her powers. So she used her powers to perform acrobatic stunts: In the shopping center where she lived in hiding, she earned money during the day with these stunts and continued to steal at night. Finally realizing that they couldn't catch Jubilee, the security guards called in the M Squad, a mutant crime squad that detains captured mutants. It was the four female X-Men, Dazzler, Psylocke, Rogue and Storm, who were shopping at the time, who rescued Jubilee as she was about to be captured by the M Squad. Admiring her rescuers, Jubilee followed them to the portal leading to their base and infiltrated the base without anyone noticing. Since this was the only way of life she knew, she continued to live in hiding at the X-Men base. However, she was soon tracked down and found by a cybernetic dog. Once captured, Jubilee focused her powers and disassembled the robot dog, the first time she had ever deliberately used her powers for violence. Jubilee traveled to the remote corners of the base to cover her tracks again, where she spotted Wolverine being tortured by the Reavers, a cyborg team, and with the help of her powers, she smuggled Wolverine into one of his hideouts. After rescuing Wolverine, Jubilee was exposed and gained the trust of the X-Men and teamed up with Wolverine on numerous missions across Asia.
✗ Emma Frost - Emma Grace Frost
Tumblr media
Emma Frost was born in Boston, Massachusetts to wealthy Winston and Hazel Frost. She is the third of four children: her siblings are named Christian, Adrienne and Cordelia. Winston is cold, ruthless and authoritarian, often imposing impossibly high standards on his children, while Hazel abuses prescription drugs to cope with the tensions of her home. Emma receives no emotional support from either her parents or her sisters, and gets along well with her brother Christian. At school, Frost is relentlessly bullied by his peers, but finds support in teacher Ian Kendall. When his telepathic powers manifest, Frost is able to read the minds of others and gather information. Frost becomes a tutor to other students and Ian suggests that he become a teacher, which Frost's father refuses. One day on the way home from school, Frost's car breaks down and Ian gives him a ride home. Frost kisses him after reading his thoughts and learning that he thinks she is beautiful and intelligent. Her sister Adrienne records it and her father uses the evidence to get Ian fired. Frost begins to retaliate by blackmailing her father. Impressed by his actions, Winston offers him the family fortune, but Frost rejects his offer and decides to make his own way in life.
After a period of homelessness, Frost meets and falls in love with a young man named Troy, who agrees to let her live with him. She learns that he owes a large amount of money to a local gangster named Lucien. To save Troy's life, Frost agrees to participate in a fake kidnapping scheme to extort Troy's remaining debt from his father. However, this soon turns into a real kidnapping and Troy is killed while bravely trying to save Frost from the enraged Lucien. Using her powers, Frost turns the thugs against each other in an illusion, causing an imaginary gunfight to break out and a panicked, supposedly last survivor to rescue her. After Emma escapes, she anonymously calls the police and they are all taken into custody, leaving her with no memories.
Frost receives the ransom money and enrolls at Empire State University. There she begins to learn about mutants for the first time and meets her friend and mentor, fellow telepath Astrid Bloom. Frost later learns that Astrid has been secretly manipulating events. Enraged, he telepathically attacks Astrid and comes out of his coma. Frost is then invited to the Hellfire Club, an underground elite society. Frost discovers Edward Buckman and Steven Lang's plans to exterminate all mutants. Frost fights Lang's Sentinels alongside Sebastian Shaw, Lourdes Chantel and Harry Leland. Frost kills Buckman and the Council of Chosen, after which she and Shaw take control of the Hellfire Club and establish themselves as the Cardinal of the Inner Circle Lords of the Hellfire Club.
During these years, Emma meets Charles and Erik and forms a close friendship with them. Although she occasionally sided with her friends on both sides of the mutant debate, she eventually found herself helping young mutants at the Academy alongside Charles.
✗ Gambit - Remy Lebeau
Tumblr media
Remy LeBeau was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. LeBeau was kidnapped from the hospital where he was raised by the Guild of Clan Thieves and given as a tribute to the Antiquarians because of his burning red eyes. They referred to the boy as “Le Diable Blanc” (“the white devil”) and believed he was prophesied to unite the warring Thieves and Assassins Guilds.
Soon after, Remy was placed in the care of Fagan's Mob, a gang of street thieves who raised the boy and taught him the ways of theft. After living as an orphan on the streets, 10-year-old Remy tried to pick the pocket of Jean-Luc LeBeau, then patriarch of the Thieves' Guild.
Jean-Luc took the boy off the streets and welcomed him into his family. Remy's bio-kinetic charging abilities emerged in his early teens, despite keeping his powers secret from his family and friends and keeping his powers away from prying eyes.
At the age of 15, he accompanied his half-brother Etienne Marceaux to the Thieves' Guild's ritual initiation test, the “Tithing”. However, things went wrong when they were tasked with stealing from Candra, a powerful immortal mutant who quickly captured them.
Candra recognized Remy from an encounter that took place in his past but in his future (due to a time travel mission in the 19th Century that Remy would take as an adult) and sold them to the deformed, mutant gangster and child slave trader known as the Pig, who planned to sell them and their ages to HYDRA as male soldiers. Remy used their powers to escape from the pen they were held in, but the physically enhanced Pig quickly captured them. Remy discovered his signature attack when he picked up a playing card that Etienne had dropped, filled it up and threw it at the Pig's face, taking out its eye.
Remy, who eventually escaped from his cliff-top headquarters by diving into the sea, was eventually rescued by the Guild; Etienne drowned. In an attempt to reconcile the Thieves' and Assassins' Guilds, Remy married Bella Donna Boudreaux, the granddaughter of the Assassin leader he had met at the age of 8. Unfortunately, after the wedding he was challenged to a duel by his brother Julien. In the duel, Gambit killed Julien and was banished from the city, ending his relationship with Bella Donna.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Kity Pryde - Katharine Anna Pryde
Pryde has a “phasing” ability that allows him and any objects or people he comes into contact with to become intangible. This power also disrupts any electric field he passes through, allowing him to simulate levitation.
As the latest member of the school, she is universally regarded as the “little sister”.
Havok - Alexander Summer
Havok produces powerful “plasma blasts”, an ability he has difficulty controlling. One of Corsair's sons, he is the younger brother of the X-Men's Cyclops and older brother of Vulcan. He lost his parents in a car accident at an early age and was separated from his siblings and raised in an orphanage.
At first, Alex's mutant power only seemed to manifest itself when he was on the brink of death. She couldn't control it and was afraid of its immense power.
When his path crossed with Charles, he joined the X-Men. Here he was reacquainted with his brother Scott, (they were separated at a very young age and did not remember each other.) During his years at the Academy, he had a steady relationship with Lorna. However, they later decided to remain friends and ended their relationship. Because they both had separate wars and families to find.
Before the first blip, Scott left the Academy, but Alex stayed on.
Psylocke - Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock
Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock was born in England and raised in the small town of Maldon, Essex. Betsy was Sir James Braddock's second child, born a few minutes before his twin brother Brian. The twins and their older brother Jamie, almost ten years older, had a very privileged life. By the time she entered university, Betsy had become a charter pilot. After she and Jamie were taken hostage by Red Skull agents and freed by Captain America and Captain Britain, Betsy learned that she had a brother, Brian. Meanwhile, Betsy began to develop her powers of pre-recognition. She dyed her hair purple and began modeling. At the age of twenty-one, her psychic powers grew to include telepathy. Agent Matthew recruited Betsy into STRIKE's Psi Division and she became the lover of psi Tom Lennox. Having inherited membership in the Hellfire Club from her father, Betsy was sent to infiltrate it, but was warned by Tessa for her own protection. She also met her future boyfriend Warren Worthington for the first time at one of the Hellfire Club parties.
Betsy heard that a group of people like her were gathering under the name of the X-Mem after she got into a lot of trouble, and she moved to the X-Men mansion to rescue them, just where Roman, the Guardian of the Omniverse, needed her. When the Marauders attacked the Morlocks during the massacre of the X-Mansion, it was used as a makeshift infirmary for injured survivors. Knowing that the X-Men were in New York, Sabretooth the Marauder invaded the mansion. Psylocke used him as bait to lure him away from the wounded until the X-Men arrived to help him. As Sabretooth and Wolverine fought, Psylocke used her telepathy to gather information from Sabretooth's mind about the Marauders and their leader, Mr. Sinister. Wolverine, though initially reluctant to involve outsiders in X-Men affairs, was impressed by her courage and nominated her to join the team.

White Wolf and Captain America
As the newest members of the Academy, the duo have come to the Academy as guests of Charles Xavier to keep Lorna and Remy under control and under surveillance.
Sam, the new “Captain”, learns about the existence of mutants and sets sail for new horizons and friendships. Bucky, under the new name White Wolf, will have to confront an assassination bequeathed by the Winter Soldier.

*Storm and Black Panther are a married couple in the comic book universe. I'm trying to stick to the MCU as much as possible, and I don't think I'll be able to write a fiction about Chadwick. I'll imagine him as still standing in the wonderful place we left him.

THESE APES HAVE PHDs
ORCHIS were excellent villains. Deeply threatening and scary, true to life fascist tactics and supremacist rhetoric, and they also had scientists that turned themselves into APES. Intentionally. Walking, talking, sentient varied members of the great ape family. Where else but comic books could you find such a thing? I love it!
Tumblr media
Gorilla tactics
I confess I don't exactly follow their logic with the whole 'turn into apes' thing, though they do look a lot more threatening than they did as feeble scientists. I'm assuming none of them had partners or family. 'Mother, why is that monkey wearing daddy's clothes?' 'Shush, he's a gorilla now and will perceive eye contact as a threat. Maybe play outside.' I love how Storm's face is just like what the fuck?
Tumblr media
Mystique snooping around an ORCHIS node. I really have to give her credit for keeping a straight face while talking to an orangutan that's working on Dyson Sphere translocation. Is that two chimps sparring in the middle there? I wonder if they actually need those glasses.
Tumblr media
Look he's got a cute little name tag and everything. Do they have opposable thumbs now? They retained their higher brain functions and the power of speech, I wonder if they fling shit at one another and tear non apex predators to shreds. Cool that some of them kept human hairstyles.
Tumblr media
I have to assume ORCHIS made their technology ape accessible. I'm with Edith on that one though, I'd find it super off-putting. If they weren't fascists I'd get used to it though.
Tumblr media
It's interesting that this human supremacist organisation has apes as department heads. Did any survive the fall of ORCHIS? Seems like finding a new job would be tough, though FOX news could always use more fascist apes to screech reactionary propaganda. Appealing to children, I'd imagine. If not, they'd probably get hit with anti-mutant discrimination. What a shame that'd be. Or they could work with the Red Ghost and his super apes!
It's so funny to me that this is all played seriously too. Each of those apes could be human instead and it wouldn't change the story. But to do things with style, sometimes you need apes, baby.

Uncanny X-men #196- What Was That?!!
CW: racial slurs
Tumblr media
Last Issue Recap: The Power Pack made a cameo and Wolverine did not disembowel a child. Callisto in the Morlocks did show up and they are as skrungly and terrible as ever. And then there was Secret Wars 2 which I have mentally blocked out of my brain because it's too pointless and annoying to take up important Nightcrawler Obsessing Space.
Anyway, HOLY HELL, how did this cover make it to print?! Its literally a woman in a gimp suit! Have I talked about Rachel's Mutant Hunter gimpsuit before? I feel like I have, but I would once again like to say, what the actual fuck.
Tumblr media
It's Chris Claremont so I expect to be using this a lot in the near future. Also, in this cover there are spikes around her crotch that form a thong/triangle shape (super umcomfy 😬) which (spoilers) are not there when she wears the suit in-issue. Which just makes this worse.
Gimpsuit aside I don't like this cover. The composition is meh, and its the same sort of misdirection we saw in the last issue. Is Rachel going to beat the shit out of the X-men and get stabbed by Wolverine? Of course she's not. The splash panel on the first page is pretty striking though.
Tumblr media
The title is uncreative, but I do adore when writers try to work their issue title into the first page's dialogue or onomatopoeia or something (Thor #366 is my absolute favorite example of this). This is a fantastic first page, not only does it immediately set up tension, mystery and stakes while quickly delivering exposition, but it cleverly uses the in-universe curtain behind Professor X as a tool for adding motion and energy, whilst directing the reader's eye around the page.
I half forgot that Professor X is actually a professor and that he didn't just make that title up to sound cool. Hell, since he has a PhD it should actually be Dr X but that sounds a little too much like a porn knockoff of Dr Strange for my and Marvel's liking. Jesus Christ I bet he's the sort of proff who never ever grades essays in time because he's too busy fucking off fighting Godlike entities in space. I'd give him a 2 on Rate My Professor so fast.
Tumblr media
Several students in this packed classroom are smoking. Oh 1985, how the times have changed!
As his students leave, Professor X laments that he cannot simply read their minds and figure out who's thought this was. Not because this would be highly unethical, but because his mind and body has been weakened ever since he got the shit kicked out of him by anti-mutant muggers a few issues back.
Meanwhile, Storm is home in Africa on her self discovery tour, where she is- shot in the head and left for dead by the racist poachers she'd fought before?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know logically this is just a fakeout but I'll be damned if it isn't some good tension! Also; the racist poachers are a brother-sister pair named Andreas and Andrea. Their parents must have hated them even more than I do.
We immediately cut to Kitty talking about Ororo's letters at a team meeting just to hammer the stake further into my goddamn heart. The Gang has gathered in a deli to discuss Professor X's mystery, including Magneto (whose presence goes undiscussed, probably because it was explained in Secret Wars 2) and some blonde lady named Aleytys who I have no idea who she is. (Edit: I know who she is- Lee Forrester, Scott Summers ex-girlfriend who apparently hooked up with Magneto in New Mutants. What an absolute power move.) Something I haven't mentioned yet because it hasn't come up is that Chuck has been hiding his growing frailty and power loss from his friends and teammates for some reason I've forgotten but which is probably stupid. Also he can walk at this point in continuity but that's not important.
Rachel sees the Beyonder shows up for his editor mandated plot interruption for a few pages and I'm not going to discuss it because I Don't Care.
Tumblr media
My thoughts exactly Kitty.
Speaking of the best boy, he is off at his parish, talking to the priest about his crisis of faith.
Tumblr media
I cannot imagine what it must be like to go into confessional with a superhero he has heard some shit someone redraw this man in that one stock photo of the priest.
The monster Kurt is talking about his the Beyonder because goddamnit I guess I can't just ignore that motherfucker. TLDR, he was the ultra-powerful being who started the excuse plot for the original Secret Wars. In Secret Wars 2 he comes to Earth to learn the meaning of life or some bullshit and wanders around causing problems before turning himself into a baby (probably, idk I never finished it, Jim Shooter did that before so he'd probably do it again.) Kurt's faith has been completely destroyed by the Beyonder's sheer power which is like no being he's ever seen before- oh please.
This whole scene sort of pisses me off. First off, its more wanking off about the Beyonder and I really don't want to hear about this guy. Second, its another reason to leave Kurt out of this weeks plot and that pisses me off, give my boy more screentime! Third, this really doesn't feel justified by the Beyonder. Nightcrawler saw Dr Doom hand him his ass in Secret Wars, he knows he's not omnipotent. Nightcrawler having a breakdown is fine but there's way more interesting stuff for him to break down over.
Back on the main plot, a group of shadowy figures sneak into Professor X's office and plant a bomb under his desk! I see someone has been reading Hitchcock's quotes on suspense.
Rogue and Rachel are flying over Columbia U having a dramatic irony-laden conversation about how much less nasty this current timeline is than Rachel's home time whilst she mind-scans for the culprits. They don't find them, but they do find a mugging in progress and stop it.
Tumblr media
I'll tell you what else is a crime, that hairdo! Yeesh.
It turns out the civilian they saved is a anti-mutant jackass who was grafitti-ing the words "Muties die!" when he got jumped, because Marvel civilians are assholes. Kitty and Wolvie take a quick break from crimefighting and have an conversation that's too cute for me not to share.
Tumblr media
Kitty phases into a building because she sees a light on in a lab after hours. She finds some of her student acquaintances skulking about and, despite having doubts that any of them could be murderers, is immediately suspicious. I personally think the fact they ordered pizza with anchovies on it would be enough to peg them as supervillains on the spot, but Kitty is more of an optimist than me. The terrorists realize Kitty is a mutant and confront her about it.
Tumblr media
Kitty Pryde just said the N-word. This isn't ok. I don't know how the editors at Marvel ever thought it was ok, and it speaks volumes that they did. "Mutie" isn't a real swear. "N-----" is. That word is hateful and terrible and affects real people and it is not ok at all to equate it to a made-up slur. The X-men are supposed to be an allegory for suffering that empowers minority groups. This just hurts them more. Hell no to all of this.
I took a hot minute to absorb what I just fucking read and then moved on with the issue. The terrorist kids get the jump on Kitty and chloroform her before she can phase out, with intent to kill her. Meanwhile, Magneto, Professor X and Rachel Summers are in the Prof's office, discussing the case and the Beyonder's continued presence because he's been stalking them like a weirdo. Rachel tries to psychically link the three so they can sense the Beyonder like she can, but using her psi-powers sets off the bomb, which is actually not a bomb but a "psi-scream," a device that amplifies and reflects psychic energy back to its source. This is a massive plot-hole; how did they know Xavier was psychic?! As far as I'm aware its not common knowledge Professor X is a mutant at all, let alone what his powers are! And these are just normal Columbia U college students with no connection to any supervillains or secret organizations whatsoever, there's no way they'd have access to this info!
The bomb overloads Rachel and she accidentally destroys the office, sending out a shockwave of energy that sends Professor X and Maggie flying. Rogue has to catch them both which I find sort of curious because its always so inconsistent whether Magneto can fly or not (my personal headcanon is that his costume has metal soles and he levitates them). Rachel senses Kitty's distress through their psychic link and freaks out so bad she manifests her BDSM Mutant Hunter costume. She flies over to the lab, explodes the anti-mutant students and rescues Kitty in a very hetero way.
Tumblr media
Cannot imagine what goes on in Kitty Pryde's head. Must a beautiful and terrifying place to visit.
The guy in the pink jacket from before regains consciousness and tries to shoot Rachel, but its a bit like trying to stab a rhinoceros with a butter knife. She's about to kill him, when Magneto shows up to stop her from making the same mistakes he has.
Tumblr media
I don't know bout you but if Magneto in a suit told me to do anything I'd drop whatever I was doing immediately. I love reformed Magneto, such a richer and more interesting character than racist whiny asshole villain Magneto. I sure hope Marvel lets him continue to grow as a person and don't constantly regress his character for the stake of a stupid status quo! Haha. I hate the Endless Wheel of Comic Book Samsara.
The conversation between Magneto and Rachel is honestly really beautiful. Two people who've never interacted before, but understand each other's pain better than anyone else can. Its a fantastic scene only slightly marred by the final panels being of the Beyonder observing the scene and giving some pointless, longwinded commentary. Its too long for me to screenshot and post here so I super recommend you check this out for yourself!
On the plus side, next issue is Dr Doom!
Final Thoughts: This issue had some really high highs and some really low lows. I'm honestly super shocked the panel of Kitty Pryde saying the N-word isn't more infamous than it is, because holy fuck that was awful.

STS tumblr takeover August challenge
-- ୨୧ --୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ --
୨୧ Theme: Power of Love || Hosted by the lovelies: @thelaundrybitch , @leosgirl82 and @post-apocalyptic-daydream 💖💗💕
୨୧ Prompt: "I can't do it anymore. I can't keep pretending I'm not in love with you"
୨୧ Characters/Fandom: TMNT; My bayverse Dark Turtle clones AU if you wanna check them out 💋💖
Decided to do this HC style
-- ୨୧ --୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ -- ୨୧ --
You dont know when you started to have a crush on (Lee/Red/Don/Mike)
All you knew is that you do
Anyone else would see them as mutants, but you saw them as misunderstood, wayward mutant turtle clones of the TMNT
And that evolved into something different between you and (L/R/D/M)
Anytime he would look your way you would look away, feeling a blush heat on your cheeks
You even started noticing that he acted different around you, too
He showed in his way that he liked you and thought of you as someone close to him
Sometimes even something he would say to you would make you feel like on ☁️💖 Cloud 9
You tried for months to make it seem like you wanted to be and stay friends with him, when he noticed your 'strange behavior'
Finally, unable to keep your feelings at bay, for about 2 weeks you didn't visit
Even sent short texts every now and then
He was worried about you, though he'd never admit it out loud to anyone
He would go to check on you, but when you texted saying that you were fine he didn't...
At least for about a week
He caught you late one night walking home
"Are you sure you're doing alright?"
You sighed deeply
You couldn't take it anymore
You had to let him know
"I..."
He waited for what you had to say
"I can't do it anymore. I can't keep pretending I'm not in love with you"
He looked at you with a wide eyed look of suprise
"There I said it. I'm in love with you, (Lee/Red/Don/Mike)"
It was silent
You didn't dare to look at him
You felt tears sting your eyes
"Even if you don't feel the same way, I just wanted to let you know... and that we'll still be friends..."
You didn't want to keep secrets from him..
You hoped this confession didn't ruin your friendship
What he said made you look up at him
"...Is that... what this funny feeling in my chest is?"
He placed a giant three fingered hand to his chest where his heart beat
You had told him about love when he asked what he felt when you two were together doing something or hanging out
You smiled
"Yes... that's love."
୨୧ TAG LIST:
He scooped you up in his arms and ran off with you
You couldn't help but let out a soft squeak when he held you bridal style
"Where we going?"
He just smirked down at you and continued on his way to take you somewhere special
His smirk made your heart race
You guessed... it didn't matter where you went, as long as he was with you, and protected you, you were fine anywhere with him.

I wanna say some things.
I've been a Polaris fan for almost 15 years now. Fans just tuning in, and some that may have tuned out, may be frustrated with how the X-Men comics keep failing/refusing to do right by the character.
I want to give you all a look from my view, so you can see the progress.
Back when I discovered Lorna, it wasn't because of a TV show. Or social media. It was because, by pure chance, I ran across her entry on the Marvel wikia. She wasn't promoted enough for me to know she exists except by accident.
In terms of the landscape: she was in a bad position. The Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon had just been canceled after the Disney buyout, which meant any plans for her there went out the window. In the comics, she had been reduced to Havok's supporting character girlfriend again, only this time exiled to space for his Starjammers team. It was shortly after I learned of Lorna that she was put in space limbo for over a year, no appearances anywhere at all.
No place in comics. No involvement in mutant events on Earth at all. Stuck as Havok's supporting character girlfriend when last seen. No origin story. Magneto as her dad was still a big question mark, and it wasn't clear if she was even a mutant.
Here is a list of gains since I discovered the character.
Restored as a mutant
Restored as Magneto's daughter
Not stuck in relationship as a supporting character for Havok
Back on Earth, taking part in X-Men comics
Breakout role on Gifted played by Emma Dumont
Multiple good video game appearances
Has an origin story now
Led a team of her own (despite Jordan White undermining her and killing the book)
Won the X-Men fan vote
Interacting with Jean Grey again after decades of nothing
Has a PhD now
Yes, I do complain about the X-Men comics. A lot. I have good reason to be. Within that same time frame, we still have these problems that keep coming up.
Havok keeps getting forced into almost everything Lorna does
Her surviving the Genoshan genocide keeps getting treated like it never happened
Keeps getting forced onto teams named X-Factor, clearly due to Jordan White's nostalgia for 90s X-Factor
Different writers treating her like she either has no history before or after the 90s, never a full accounting
OOC depictions in various places, most notably in the recent X-Factor #4 and Trial of Magneto
Lorna is a work in progress. She spent decades getting treated poorly, with people at Marvel thinking that poor treatment was appropriate. Some of them, like White, even think that poor treatment was somehow actually good and want people to think like they do. Because of this, Lorna has ups and downs in her overall trajectory.
The first thing I want to emphasize is that as a work in progress, it's going to take time for her to get where she should be. You can't undo decades of damage in a single month or year. It's taken almost 15 years to get her where she is now, which is much better than where she used to be despite all the things still wrong.
The second thing is her profile.
Back in 2018, I talked to Jordan White on Twitter. He said Lorna didn't deserve anything. He claimed Lorna didn't have enough fan interest or star power to warrant getting the respect she deserved. He cited nothing for this view other than his general attitude and claiming he'd have more tweets directed to him about Lorna if she had enough fan interest.
The X-Men fan vote proved him wrong. In the past 5 years, we went from Jordan White writing her off as a nobody, to White clearly understanding that he can't ignore her anymore. He knows now that she has way more interest than he was counting on.
That's progress. And while it may not feel like it, poor treatment is also progress in this case. We went from White insisting Lorna doesn't deserve a miniseries, to White greenlighting a 4-part Infinity comic clearly meant to push his personal whims.
Of course, I would vastly prefer Lorna get an actual mini that treats her right instead of something that amounts to a drawn fanfic paid for out of company money. But at the end of the day, her profile and public awareness of who she's actually supposed to be as a character has grown enough that White decided to devote company resources on trying to make people think of Lorna the way he does.
That's a victory for Polaris fandom. It's part of the fight to get her where she should be. Or rather, should've been all along. Don't look at it as end of the road. Look at it as a stepping stone to a brighter future for the character.
P.S. - Jordan White didn't read the original run of X-Men comics until COVID. That's not a problem for the average person. Fans usually don't go that far back. I haven't read the original run, just Lorna's intro issues. But as senior editor of the X-Men comics, you would expect him to have read those issues much, much sooner than 2 years into being senior editor.

My big thing has always been, like, this is the Marvel Universe. They’re not the only ones with powers. Your average X-Man is about as dangerous as your average PhD student. But it’s mutants who are discriminated against, and the powers thing is an excuse (especially since a lot of mutations do not make you more dangerous that a non-mutant individual).
Like, I'm not gonna say that the X-Men and their various imitators are anything like a perfect allegory, but "it's a bad allegory because super powers really are dangerous" has never held water for me. Like, are we really just gonna uncritically accept the implicit assumption lurking in that argument that bigotry is only wrong to the extent that its targets lack the ability to threaten the status quo? Hand-wringing over whether certain minorities are inherently dangerous is – and, critically, always has been – a smoke-screen for the real conversation about who has the right to possess the capacity for violence, and you can't engage with that conversation if your opening move is to concede that the only legitimate victim is a powerless one.

In Australia, COVID-19 deaths may have stopped decreasing - Published Sept 6, 2024
By: Ian M Mackay, PhD
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) published excellent data on deaths due to or with COVID-19 in Australia from 2022 to July 2024. Deaths dropped between 2022 and 2023, but they stopped dropping further in 2024. Is this baseline of death ‘living with COVID-19’?
Below, I’ve plotted the data from deaths due to COVID-19 – those where it is the “disease, condition or external event that started the chain of events leading to death.” The ABS also includes a dataset of deaths with COVID-19 if you are interested.
What might this data be telling us?
Twice a year, COVID-19 death peaks COVID-19 mortality peaks in a biannual pattern in Australia.
The peaks of death for 2022 (blue line in the graph above) and 2024 so far (green line) occur in our summer (orange shared areas) and winter (blue shade area). For 2023, the peaks are also in summer, but autumn contains the peak rather than winter.
Each new peak was driven by SARS-CoV-2 variants that differed from those that drove the preceding epidemic peak. I am a strong proponent that variation is crucial to the SARS-CoV-2 ‘waves’; the variant doth make the epidemic.
Antibody and cellular immunity from infection by the previous variant is generated and long-lasting. But the subsequent epidemic variant has, by definition, largely escaped that old immunity, being more successful at infection and transmission to greener human-filled pastures.
Variants of a virus are all part of the same species of ‘the virus’, but they differ due to being selected as the fittest new mutant during an iterative, evolutionary process (many millions of ‘generations’ are produced in each infection) within a person. The new fittest variant will most likely succeed against competition in its current environment. For a new variant to thrive, it’s had to successfully avoid the hindrance of existing immunity. There are many mechanisms by which viruses do this. One way viruses do this is by changing their outward ‘appearance’ enough that the old immune response can’t impede infection and transmission.
2022, the year the gates opened. In Australia (and New Zealand), we did a spectacular job of keeping SARS-CoV-2 out of Australia during 2021 through a mix of international and internal border restrictions and periodic (less periodic for some jurisdictions than others) lockdowns (stay-at-home orders). At least until we were all well-vaccinated and New South Wales set the schedule on our behalf. We also did a ton of testing, contact tracing, and quarantining. While we used masks (mainly surgical ones), they weren’t really put to the test because we had so few periods of sustained transmission.
In 2022, the floodgates opened, and we were off. Soon thereafter, the surge of hospitalizations and then deaths followed.
These new ABS data are fantastic because it’s very hard to find a trustworthy source of longitudinal COVID-19 data now.
Is 2023-2024 the ‘new normal’? The 2023 (red) and 2024 (green; ongoing) totals clearly show fewer deaths than in 2022 (blue).
That aligns with an expectation that vaccination and immunity from infection protect against the most severe outcome, death.
Still, even with that protection, the red and green lines in the earlier graph showed that monthly mortality is tracking quite similarly each year after the first surge of a novel virus into the community.
Is this what the future looks like? The ‘new normal’? ‘Living with COVID-19’?
Perhaps this balance will change further as we develop immunity to more variants. But that’s copium (wishful thinking), not fact. What we know is that SARS-CoV-2 keeps coughing up new variants with an approximately six monthly regularity. And that rate powers these biannual epidemics. If that rate speeds up – or slows down – it makes sense that the epidemic rate will also change. In between, we have not returned to zero cases and deaths because SARS-CoV-2 is an endemic virus, even if any given variant only has a finite existence.
Trends in mortality and age. Those dying from COVID-19 are mainly among older age groups.
According to the ABS data, 70-80% of all confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 were in those aged 80 years or older, while 17-19% of deaths were among 70-79 year olds.
Deaths in those aged 0-59 comprised 2-4% of all COVID-19 deaths, with 5-7% of 60-69-year-olds dying due to COVID-19.
Noting that 2024 is incomplete so this trend may change.
It’s also interesting to look at the trends among the total deaths in those older age groups. The trend is that the percentage of 60-79-year-olds has been decreasing each year, while 80-90+ year-olds have seen rising rates of mortality due to COVID-19.
Does this reflect that we were still protecting the oldest among us, those we knew were most at risk from death in 2022, but have increasingly removed those protections from 2023? Or is it about reduced ease, interest and pressure in getting boosted? Or perhaps this group is the canary in the coal mine, indicating that vaccine mismatch may lessen the protection for those most likely to die from COVID-19. Or is it something else entirely?
But death isn’t everything. Death is a very harsh and also more rare outcome of SARS-CoV-2 than it was. Nonetheless, because this virus is still mutating apace and being allowed to spread uninterrupted, many people are infected during each epidemic in each jurisdiction. Even a rare outcome means lots of people are affected when many people are infected.
While the “bad cold” and more severe outcomes due to COVID-19 are still occurring and creating havoc for workplaces, schools, ‘the economy’ (where did all those dudes go?), and families, long COVID-19 is also ever-present. Despite resulting less often now [2] than early in the pandemic, widespread transmission keeps driving long COVID case numbers.
Better vaccines We got our vaccines in record time, tested and rolled out new RNA technologies, and read many words about their flexibility. Disappointingly, they have not lived up to the promise of being rapidly updated or produced locally in more countries. Or rather, the promise is retained, but they haven’t been updated fast enough. In Australia, most of our COVID-19 biannual epidemics have been due to variants that aren’t well matched with the spike-gene-containing vaccines we have available.
Even when the vaccines inevitably become more effective, ongoing waves of misinformation, lost trust, and reduced public health communication will likely negatively impact vaccine uptake. There’s a lot of work to do here.
We need better vaccines or faster updates if we want to further push down deaths. We need vaccines that are updated twice a year or include conserved regions of SARS-CoV-2 – parts that don’t change rapidly or extensively but are still effective at generating immunity. We need vaccines that contain multiple pieces of different variants to cover the immunogenic spectrum. We also need those vaccines delivered to the site of infection—the upper airway. Thankfully, work on some of these strategies is progressing.[3]
We could absolutely do more to prevent transmission, but we aren’t, and those most capable of improving our health and safety by organizing better education on masking and cleaning our air are absent, too concerned about other things, or simply taking advice from those unqualified to be in any advisory role.
For now, the numbers say that we are settling into a baseline of death and harm due to this respiratory virus. Some might call this ‘living with COVID-19’. But that’s not true for everyone.

001 : ERIK LEHNSHERR
Tumblr media Tumblr media
name. erik magnus lehnsherr ( alias: magneto )
age. sixty-three ( thirty-eight )
pronouns & gender identity. he/him/his & cis man
sexual & romantic orientation. pansexual & panromantic
species. human ( mutant )
occupation. genetic engineer
Tumblr media
ivy cove background. ( trigger warning for inadequate foster care services ) raised in the system, erik had an unstable childhood. despite his reputation as a child prodigy capable of genius-level feats, erik was never able to permanently settle with a family. he had always been aloof and wary of others, but was able to maintain an income and support himself by the age of seventeen. living in fear of developing attachments to others, erik threw himself into his studies. he took great pride in his intelligence, and graduated university with a PhD in biology with a focus on gene therapy in just under eight years of school. erik kept an almost adequate social life, though he was remarkably uninterested in others and not entirely forthcoming about his emotions, often leading to superficial relationships. while erik had been content, though quietly resentful, to live out his days alone and bury his increasingly bitter emotions, things changed after the mayor's death. while many had reported gaining back floods of memories and supernatural abilities, erik's came back to him slowly and in fragments. almost as a spite to him, the memories he regained first were often the most painful. there was an ease that came about as his abilities were reconnected to him, a sense of familiarity that quieted the trauma lurking in his mind. with each new memory, often revealed to him quietly as though it had always been there, his powers grew. just over half of his memories seem to have returned, though some things have yet to make an appearance. memories of family, and his upbringing in judaism, have rocked his sense of identity. these changes, both in himself and others, have pushed erik further in his genetic research. he maintains this outwardly as his distraction, but there is far more brewing underneath the surface.
personality. erik is a tortured genius. he has a one-track mind that leads to an incredibly determined nature, but often this track is one of tragedy and anger. while in his "fake" life, erik achieved great scientific success, his social life and relationships with others were severely lacking. as such, vulnerability and empathy do not come easy to him. he has always been cynical, and bitter, and this is now amplified alongside confusion with the return of his memories and abilities. he is re-experiencing past emotions, ranging from hateful to peaceful to apathetic. his love for mutantkind has returned in waves, resulting in distrust from all others. always a prideful being, erik's growing abilities have only served to increase his self assurance. he is curious as to just how much his powers will grow; if his memories are of any indication, he hasn't reached his full potential by any means. erik is entirely strategic, and while he is emotional and often acts on his emotions, he always thinks through possibilities and outcomes and the best way to proceed. while his cynicism and vengeful nature have never been so apparent to him, his capacity to show compassion and experience contentment has grown exponentially, as well. there is a battle in his head, the desire for peace versus chaos. while his last memories are those of acceptance and peace, to be sprung with all of this at once has been overwhelming, to say the least. he is currently in somewhat of a waiting game as his memories return, and as he views the behaviors and actions of others following their own revelations.
ivy cove powers & abilities. thus far, erik has only regained partial control of his abilities. he does have a heightened sense of electromagnetic auras around him, and a nerfed ability to manipulate magnetic fields. his combat abilities have almost entirely returned, alongside heightened intelligence and proficiency as a tactician. what has come easiest to him thus far, and what he has been rapidly gaining control of, is his ability to manipulate metallic substances. he has noticed that he can even control small animals by manipulating the iron in their blood. erik's understanding of complex machinery and genetic engineering has been amplified drastically. as of now, erik only experiences astral projection in a sleeping state, and only to a limited degree that is often not entirely in his control. the ability to create force fields has been returning slowly, a work in progress, and his powers of flight are currently limited to low altitude levitation. as the days pass by, and more is revealed to him, he can feel the difference in the air and feel the power that he holds coursing through his body.
Tumblr media
below are erik's canon inspirations ! they are listed for reference as his memory and powers return. the above information may be altered to reflect current rate of progression and gained memories & powers.
canon background. canon-compliant from x-men "prologue" movies. this erik follows the line from x-men: first class, x-men: days of future past, x-men: apocalypse, and x-men: dark phoenix. he is taken from the end of dark phoenix with elements of comic book canon to fill in some blanks. relationships with other highly relevant comic book characters, including family members, will be on a case-to-case basis. while your muse may have memory of comic!magneto, erik does not possess all of the same memories.
canon powers & abilities. the ability to generate and manipulate magnetic fields, ability to manipulate metal, flight, genius-level intellect, manipulates plate tectonics to de-age (physiologically), skilled tactician, high skills in combat, can create a force field around himself (including creating a bubble around himself to breathe in space), can create traversable wormholes, has limited control over manipulating non-metallic items through force fields, the ability to manipulate iron in the blood of others to control their actions, perceives natural electromagnetic auras given off by living beings, light generation and manipulation, astral projection, electricity absorption and generation, electromagnetic sight & multilingual
missing memories notably include capturing emma frost, being held in the pentagon and escaping, large portions of time following the old trask timeline, the annihilation of the factory workers in poland, his encounter with jean grey in genosha, reuniting with hank following raven's death, and the destruction of his helmet.

This series has been going on for a year, so there's a lot of characters (and with the attention spans on TikTok, similar ideas which upsets me as an actor).
Under the cut is a masterlist of every franchise and character created!
(Warning, it's long)
ACD Sherlock Holmes: Doric speaking cab driver who fears being sent back to his Deaf school & very posh magician who actually believes in magic.
Addams Family: Victor Addams, enthusiastic medical student and complete madman. Triplet with Atticus Islay (Indiana Jones) and Teddy (the Mummy). (He/they)
Bridgerton: Lord Barnaby Lackless, a very eccentric, autistic bachelor.
DnD Honor Among Thieves: New member of the crew, hopeful tempest cleric.
Doctor Who: Odhrán Catton, a nonbinary Irish history student
Ghosts (BBC): Stubborn 1920s ghost who died after he “saw the first diesel motorcar, briefly”. Obsessed with Poirot and silent movies.
Good Omens: Clueless angel that got a body with non-working ears.
Harry Dresden:  Wizard apprentice who doesn’t take any of Harry’s misogyny shit.
His Dark Materials: Servant with a bat daemon working against the Magisterium as a spy, occasionally alongside Lord Asriel using ableism as his shield.
House of the Dragon: Very snarky BSL/SSE using servant.
How to Train Your Dragon: Pipsqueak Peerie, a squeaky-voiced childish Viking with three hearing dragons called Incus, Malleus, and Stapes.

Jurassic Park: Paleontologist with weird priorities (bring him the big bugs!)
Kung Fu Panda: A sarcastic kung fu bat.
Merlin: Sly knight from a family of mages attempting to hide his deafness with Merlin’s help.
Mummy 1 & 2: Theodore “Teddy” Islay-Addams, an archeology student who lied his way onto the dig of the first movie and studying for his PHD in the attacked museum of the second.
Narnia: Logical Northern Irish Pevensie cousin. (Does not like the British Imperialism and really want to hug Aslan).
Our Flag Means Death: You/Sweetheart (renamed by audience), bloodthirsty pirate fleeing his murder of an ableist teacher in Edinburgh.
Outlander: Doric-speaking (but mostly signing) minor clansman who DOES NOT LIKE the main character's 1940s views on D/deaf people.
Owl House: Florestan, a student forced into the healing track to “fix” his ears who just wanted to be a bard.
Rings of Power: Insecure BSL/SSE using elf wanting to prove himself against the dark forces.
Star Trek: Unnamed science officer who isn’t allowed to collect rocks anymore.
Star Wars: Pilot whose twin brother was taken to be a Jedi (and likely died during Order 66)
Stranger Things: Cowardly new arrival to Hawkins with an interest in animals.
Supernatural: Cassidy, a cocky Irish hunter.
Tangled, the Series: Albany, a cartographer with a murderous grudge against Rapunzel and her father.
Umbrella Academy: Another child of the 43 pregnancies born in Ireland. Is immune to all poisons and mildly antagonistic (in a non-personal way) towards the Hardgreeves.
What We Do in the Shadows: Timothy, a sweet and earnest vampire (who crashes into things as a bat).
Witcher: Radek Solkov, alchemist, explorer, and failed mage. Very loud, very flamboyant.
X-Men: Cassidy O’Conner, a nervous mutant student at Xavier’s School who can transform into a bat and just wants to be an illustrator.

Note
who do you think is right (or wrong): Charles or Erik? and why if you don't mind answering
also do you have any thoughts on the mutant-human or mutant-mutant conflict in x-men?
What an ask to find on a Sunday morning :D
(I will preface this by saying I deal strictly in the movie verse)
First off, right about what? They are of one mind about a whole lot of things, up to and including mutant superiority, they mostly differ on what number of dead people is an acceptable collateral. On this front I'm generally on Charles' side: less is better.
I am not in favor of experimenting on people (even the evil ones), murdering people en masse and torturing people. Also using your own as human shields is bad. Erik has a lot of good points, no question, but long term he is his cause's own worst enemy. That said, McAvoy I think had a solid take, when asked about the divide: in the long term Xavier is right. Anything but learning to live side by side is unthinkable. But that's from the perspective of someone who is either in the majority, or has enough security (whether through wealth, social circle, or passing privilege) to wait. Magneto offers immediate action, and for the people who are hurting right now it's absolutely understandable, required even, even though the specific actions he chooses are often grotesque. I think we're supposed to interpret his policies as "punch the fascists", except it very rarely ends with punching the fascist in question.
The human/mutant conflict (and I think mutant/mutant conflict is an extension of that) is... well a bit of a mixed bag, in terms of who is "right", because there is a point where the metaphor of mutants = LGBTQ falls apart. Like, of course, people should not be discriminated against based on arbitrary phenotype characteristics, nor should they be forced to disclose intimate personal/medical details, but also there is no approximate real world equivalent to Explodo, The Anti-Matter Person, whose secondary genetic characteristic is that they annihilate everything in a twenty feet radius every time they sneeze. It's not their fault they will kill probably one-third of the people they're ever going be around, but also refusing to hire them to wait tables is a no brainer. And in a world when there is only a clearly defined subset of a population that could turn out to be Explodo, being wary of that subset is not exactly unreasonable.
