YU-GI-OH “Historical” Headcannon

Hello, it's been quite some time. But finally, I took time to finish this draft!

Small necessary disclaimers :

⚠️ It's hard to find the balance between historical and fun to write. So somethings I might have said in my previous post won't technically matter here.

General

Atem

His mother died during childbirth. That would explain the absence of brother and sister.

He had a nurse, potentially Maana's mother since it was said they knew each other since childhood.

Aside from that he had a pretty lonely childhood, he is the future pharaoh, a god among the humans. So every relationship starts with a massive imbalance.

He lacked connection with people basically. (Except Mahad and Maana)

Pharoh used to be disconnected from their people, they were symbols before humans

He had and still has an issue with eye contact. Either he doesn't look at people at all or just fixes someone intensely. No in-between.

Young Atem couldn’t stay put unless someone was brushing his hair.

Even older he has a very soft spot and liking when he gets pampered. He loves long baths or when someone does his make-up or again brushing his hair.

Atem has no issues with nudity, again the clothes were very reviling,

Atem might be anxious when completely alone. He’s so used to being with all his servants, advisers etc. ect that when the silence finally arrives and his alone in his bed he tends to feel weird.

He adores cats. But, he used to be a bit too enthusiastic and a cat scratched him and since then he let them come to him but never engaged with them.

Atem would pass hours at the temple, and his surroundings would think of him as a very pious man, but it was for the cats AND for Priest Seto.

Priest Seto

Priest Seto has the longest and lushiest (?) hair known to exist.

He loves cats and cats love him back.

Priest Seto knows his eyeliner, he does it in the first stroke and it’s always perfect

Child Seto because of his blue eyes was looked at a lot, not in a bad way but more like he was unusual looking.

Seto’s eyes allowed him to be noticed by priests as a “Child of the Gods” since some shades of blue seem to be linked to the sky and the divine in ancient Egypt.

Seto loves to read, and temples were known to be filled with a lot of scriptures.

Seto is more in touch with the people than Atem, since priests were also magicians and doctors

Priest Seto is so loyal to the Pharaoh not only because Atem is the heir of the gods he worships but also because younger they both used to pet the temple’s cat.

Priest Seto is good at what Atem doesn’t like to deal with. That’s why even tho he’s young his one of Atem’s favourite ministers.

Seto likes to walk alone at night under the stars.

Relationship Headcannons (I know you were looking for it)

But how do we end up in a relationship with those two cuties, and still be accurate historically ?? Well, my friend here is what I could think of.

Atem :

To be 1st wife material, sadly you’ll have to from the family OR a very very influential heir/heiress of a nobleman.

If you’re not 1st wife material > You’ll have to be part of his harem as either: a skilled person or maybe an heiress of an enemy tribe who has been vanquished or is in alliance.

Wait let me explain, Harem in ancient Egypt isn’t what we commonly think. The pharaoh’s harem was, surely to entertain the Pharaoh but also to showcase skill and the Egyptian culture in a way.

So we can imagine here so very skilled shadow game players or very beautiful dancers etc.

Seto :

Find no source to say that priest took a celibacy oath so you can imagine anything you want.

(Personally, I have my small fantasy of forbidden love between him and an OC priestess because I love drama)

As the weeks went by i continued to visit Atem and just hang around with him.As the time went by i found myself feeling different twords Atem a good kind of feeling that sent butterflies flying and my heart a flutter. I sighed as i walked into Kiba's offce slumping down into a chair theses feelings were really taking a toll on me. "Whats wrong with you?" Kiba asked looking up from his screen. "mmmph" i said not wanting to respond."Yuugi what's going on?" He asked again. "Atem and I have done a lot of stuff together over like the past month and i'm starting to feel different toward him." I muttered slumping further down into the chair. "And thats so bad how?" He asked crossing his arms over his chest."He's my fried kiba if i'm starting to feel non platonically towards him that'll mess everything up and that's how i've been feeling and a lot of the stuff he says or does effects that as well and it makes it better in a bad way." I said a blush treating to creep onto my face."Look Yuugi i don't really care about any love interests or anything but i can give you advice. Let yourself fall in love and if you know how you feel then tell him don't hide your feelings it'll make things harder for you.So if you go to see him today tell him how you feel." Kiba said giving me a tiny smile.Wow i had no idea kiba would ever say something like that for me. "Thank you For your help Kiba-kun your such a good help." I said smiling. "Don't mention it." I started. I don't want to go full blown into my feelings right away i slowly wanted to work up to that. His whole face seemed to loses color. A small dust of pink could be seen on his face. "I-Its a tradtion here in Eygpt its like say hello or goodbye to someone." He said a little shaky. "Is everything alright?" I asked concerned. A shacky sigh escaped his lips. "No… Look Aibou i care for you and respect you so much but thats not all i've noticed things i shouldn't be feeling towards you and its hard to say things that may offend you. Yuugi your my best friend my Aibou but i don't wanna harm out long friendship." What happened to the strong fearless pharoh I know and love? I saw a small tear leave his eye. "When I left I didn't realize what i was leaving behind. When i saw you after the battle with Diva i couldn't have been any happier. now as you laid on the ground the stalker above you and a couple of bruises adoring your skin, you wished you listened to your instincts.

Luckily for you, your stalker isn't the brightest.

So with a swift kick to where the sun doesn't shine was them rolling on the ground, and you running home as fast as you could.

when you finally got home Yugi turned his head to greet you, but was met with your scared, bruised, and crying face.

He was immediately at your side, and his hands on your face asking what had happened. When you told him he pulled you close , and brushed your hair down.

"Its okay doll....I promise your safe. I wont let anyone lay their hands on you again."

Yami/Atem

The two of you were on a picnic date when it happened. He had left to get your surprise out of the car when unknown man approached.

You tried to stall and talk to the man till Atem came back, but the man decided other wise.

in one swift motion the man was on top of you, his phone in hand the camera pointing at you, and his trying to rip off the cloths you had on.

you tried kicking and screaming to get ones attention, and luckily Atem heard your cries, and saw the man on top of yo. he quickly ran to you and ripped the man from you.

He hasn't used the Shadow realm since the early days, but he couldn't think of a better punishment for the lowly creature.

He wont lie he made the game quick and easy or him to lose to. so when his soul finally banished to the shadow realm Atem was able to hold you in his arms as you cried.

Let me say, this guy will protect you till his final breath. So when the two of you go to the mall together, and you don't come back from the store you went into he had to check on you.

the far dark corner you are pinned to the wall by some guy you both don't recognize. You were trying to push him off, but he forcing his body weight on you as he kissed your neck trying to leave bruises.

upon seeing the scene all Joey could see was red. he quickly pulled the man off of you and began to beat him with an inch of life.

You had to peel joey off of him, and quickly ushered him home. When the two of you go there he held you close, and asked if you were okay.

maybe it was comforting embrace, or you knew you were safe there, but when he asked you broke down in his arms and in response he just held you tighter.

When the two of the waterpark was when it happened. He walked away to get some drinks for the two of you, when a man forcefully pulled you to the changing rooms.

He caught a glimpse of your distressed face as the door shut, and he immediately dropped everything, and rushed to the room.

He got there before the guy could do any damage to you. he wanted to be violent with the guy, but he knew that would put you in further distresses

So with his strength alone he knocked the guy out, picked you up bridal style, and informed the staff of the situation.

it Happened while you were visiting him at his shop. He ran to the back to get the new shipment of dice to show you. So you decided to have look at the monsters hoping to one day one up him.

When you felt a pair of hand on your waist. You knew they weren't Duke's so you began to struggled bit. When the man leaned down to threaten you.

terrified of what this man could do to you, you froze up as he began to unbutton your pants. The man didn't get far till Duke came out.

When he saw what was going on he dropped the box of dice in his hands. Distracted by the sudden loud noise the man stopped to turn to the source.

However, before he could he was yanked off of you and onto the floor. Duke landed a hard stomp to the mans chest keeping his foot there to keep him down, after he pulled out his phone and proceed to call authorities.

When they got there, and duke showed the security cam footage. after he closed down shop and took you home. when the two of you got there you immediately broke down, nd all he could do was hold you close.

Seto Kiba

let me just say that there would never be a chance in hell that something like that would happen to you. he makes sure your protected properly, but on the off chance that something did happen he would be furious.

One of the bodyguard had fallen for you while you were under his care. He fell so so hard that he wanted you all to himself. So when he thought no was looking he took you to a forgotten room at Seto's penthouse, and pushed himself on you.

one hand gripping you arms behind your back probably leaving bruises, the other roaming where you know it doesn't belong.

As you began to sob the other Bodyguard busted in Seto right behind him, as the bodyguard delt with him Seto pulled you to him as you sobbed into his chest.

With an icy glare he told the bodyguard to take care of them men, and when they were both gone, he softened.

he held you close, rubbed you back soothingly, ahd whispered sweet nothings to you.

"Im here sweetheart. that trash wont EVER be around you again."

Bakura Ryou

for awhile now he knew you had a stalker. So he never really let you go out by yourself. You understood, but there were times you wanted to go out on your own.

So despite his wished you left to go to the mall for some shopping, and as you were cornered and fought off your attacker the best you could you wished you had listened.

When Bakura noticed your absence he was quick to look for you. One of your friends informed him that you went to the mall for personal shopping.

When he got there the authorities were already taking the man away, and you sat in the back of an ambulance. you were covered in scratches and bruises.

since he has had a body of his own he has been very busy with his plans in the shadows. he knew he could hide like he use to ,but he still knows how to sneaky.

while in the back near the meat , a man dragged you to the butchers room where no on was. and tried to bring you to the floor.

with an unknow strength he picked up the man by the collar, and threw him to the shadows, and what you assumed was the shadow realm.

without missing a beat he went over to you and picked you up, heading back to the shadows he came from.

The two of you traveled all the time, so you never had a stalker, but there were times when people did follow you. This time however it was taken too far.

You decided to wonder a bit, and unfortunately found yourself in the wrong part of town. One of the unsavory guys there caught wind of you and followed you. When he cornered you in an ally he began saying things to you, but you didn't understand. all you knew is you had to get out of there.

you tend to wonder often so your boyfriend insisted that you took a taser with you, so without hesitation you took it out of your purse and used it against him.

after you left the scene and called your boyfriend. He was quick to find you and pull you into his arms, and checks you for any bruises.

"Please don't wander without me little Lilly. I don't know what i would do if I couldn't hold you anymore."

Yami Marik

So much like Seto he doesn't allow such a thing happen. You are HIS QUEEN and no will EVER lay their hands on you . He wont tell you, but he constantly has eyes on you. not out distrust but out of worry.

So when of your coworkers decided they wanted to step out of the friendship with you, he witnessed it all.

Everything from your rejection, to the man getting upset and trying to take you anyway. Unlucky for him Marik decided to make his presence known before the man could do harm.

With a sinister grin he picked the man up by the collar and took him to the shadow realm for a "friendly" duel.

Yugioctober day 3: desert

Also, I was the crazy horse girl at school and it’s been a WHILE since I’ve drawn a horse, especially an Arabian (my schoolbooks were full of doodles of them, I love their lil dished noses) so this was a good excuse to draw one again ^^

Truth is, Yami no Yugi acts as a repellant to all that Yugi himself attracts. There's some kind of twisted irony in all of this, if only I could find it. Yugi Moutu, a child of sweetness and light, finds the missing half of his soul in the imprisoned spirit of a 3,000 year old pharaoh. Not you average coming of age story, is it?

Even in school, Yugi will sit there and idly trace the glimmering countours of his millenium puzzle, and occasionally that glazed look settles over his features, whenever the pharoh feels the urge to chat. I hate that look. It means he's drifting away from us. Funny how often we see it, really.

The worst part - the most horrible, mind-boggling, terrifying thing of all is one simple, glaring, painful fact. Yugi knows. And he doesn't care. He doesn't give a damn. Sweet, gentle, caring Yugi Moutu doesn't mind it at all. He embraces it.

Why save him from himself? He protects him better than any of us can. He cares for him more than any of us can. He knows him better than any of us can. Devotion? Love? What else could it be?

The characterization in Edmondia Dantes's "Possession" is a product of its time, but damn if its creepy co-dependent possessiveness isn't one of my favorite parts of Puzzleshipping to this day.

Oh, I certainly enjoy fics where Yugi and Yami/Atem have a healthy, supportive relationship, and I fully acknowledge that in canon Yami would (definitely, literally) kill for his/Yugi's other friends too, but that unhealthy obsession and co-dependence is one of those things that sets Puzzleshipping apart for me. It's glorious.

I'm aware that this is me putting my own tastes on blast but I just think we should have more jealous Atem in this fandom. Not in AU's, just during canon make him jealous. Jealousy while bodysharing? Yes. Coming back to life purely to crash a date Yugi's on? You fucking bet. I don't care that it's "unhealthy" they were always codependant anyways just crank that bitch up to 70

A/N before we start off this fic this was saposed to go out on the 16th 2pm CST but i had some personal issue happen that afternoon im ok now but still wanted to let u guys know thx to heyoung whos beeening helping me thru this

Even years later that fire in highschool still haunted me. It was never the fire itself it was the talk that came after it. The talk i had with the spirit of the puzzle. It was something i would always remember because that talk shifted something. It shifted the relashonship we had with eachother. It seemed like it was unspoken yet i felt it I never mentioned it but it was there. It seemed to get clearer and clearer as the years went on and when he left i had to hold back my urge to fight him to stay but I didnt because i always knew it was for the best. Moving on wasnt hard but I still kept him in my thoughts. I would always keep him in my heart. There was always this unspoken feeling between us no matter what it was even if i moved on it would still be in my heart.

~10 years after dsod~

I sighed hearing the soft pitter patter agenst my window as I looked at the slightly empty room filled with half packed boxes. They were all Anzu's belongings. 8 years of marriage down the drain. She said my mind was never on her and that she hated me and only wanted to be with me because it reminded her of Atem. Witch was pretty crappy but I learned to roll with the punches after Atem had left. Finally after everything was all packed away Anzu had a moving company come in and move all the boxes. Since I didn’t feel like seeing her I decied to get out of the house instead.

The rain was soothing as I walked around the streets of Domino clutching my umbrella enjoying the sound of the rain hitting the streets. I stopped at a cross walk my phone buzzing in my pocket. I pulled it out looking at the contact. It was Kiba he knew what I was going thru so I have no clue why he was calling me at the moment. “Hello?” I asked answering the phone. “Yugi it’s Mokuba Kina wants to see you are you free right now?” He asked as I crossed the street. “Uh yeah I’ll be there in 20” I said making my way over there. “Ok see you then.” He said before hanging up. I sighed putting my phone back in my pocket.

The Kiba corp building was slightly empty as I walked in seeing Mokuba waiting for me. “This better not be some work assignment I’m on vacation.” I said as Mokuba lead me to the elevator. “I can tell you that it’s not.” He said pushing a button sending us down. The bell dinged the doors opening. I continued to fallow him hearing muffled voices. He stopped at a door as the voices stopped. He knocked twice the opened the door. I saw Seto there his arms crossed over his chest a small smirk on his face. “Hello Yugi so sorry to bother you but I’m this will make up for that.” He had me sit down. “Ten years ago I showed you that the pharoh was able to come back and yes I know hes gone for good now but again im going to prove you wrong. Ater years of hard work I was finally able to track him down and if I lost I had to bring him back here to you.” He said “You did put up a pretty good fight Seto I wouldn’t mind giving you a rematch.” My heart stopped as my gaze fallowed the baratone voice that made butterflys swarm inside of my his crimson eyes locking with mine. He was in his own body simallar to the one he had when he ruled as phaoroh. He was a lot taller and handsomer then I recall. “Are you gonna just stare at me or am I gonna get a hug?” He asked as tears of joy flooded my eyes. I got up rushing over to him crushing him in a hug. He chuckled rubbing my back. “I missed you Aibou (aibou is partner is Japanese) You’ve grown so much since I last saw you.” He said his fingers tangling into my hair his other arm wrapped around my waist. “I’ve missed you too Atem” I said wiping my tears away. “Love that you two are happy but I have work to do so can you guys take this somewhere else?” Kiba asked making me blush and pull away. “Uh well Anzu is moving all of her things right now.” I said. “There’s a café near here.” Kiba said as we walked off.

We walked together huddled under the umbrella as I filled atem in on the past decade. “So she cheated on you because she didn’t get with me? She thought you were gonna be more like me?” Atem asked as he sipped his coffee. “Yeah it hurt because you know she was my childhood crush it left me really heartbroken for a while.” I said looking at the table. He frowned. “Well I hope she gets what she desvers for hurting someone like you.” He had this dark look in his eyes but I ignored it (Season 0 yami anyone? XD) “I’m fine.” I said brushing it off. He grabbed my hand intertwining our finguers. “I don’t know how she didn’t see the kind, smart funny and the most beautiful person in the world.” My face felt warm as I smiled. “Thanks..” I whispered felling warm and fuzzy.

The walk back to my apartment was nicer than I actually thought it was going to be. “well this is me do you u have a place to stay or do you wanna stay with me?” I asked unlocking the door. “I’ll stay with you if that’s fine.” I smiled opening the door to see Anzu with the last of the boxes. She froeze on the spot. "I didnt think you would still be here." I said frowning slightly She put the box down her icey blue gaze landing on Atem who was standing beside me. "Sorry just geeting the last of my things I didnt think he was in town" Her eyes held an evil look in them as she came twoards the both of us. "I'm not here to see you." Atem said pushing her aside as he entered the aparment "I swear if you mess this up i will personaly hurt you." Anzu whispered in my ear as she walked out. I knew there was going to be trouble with Atem being back. Atem gave me a look "Everything ok?" "Yeah perfectl;y!" I said brushing off anzu's comment.

Later the night Atems pov~ (TW blood and some swearing)

After Yugi had went to bed I decied to pay anzu a little visit. I quietly closed the door to the apartment door looking at the adress kiba gave me. She was going to learn the hard way never to hurt my Aibou ever again. I slowly sneaked in seeing her asleep in bed. Perfect time to strike. I slowly crept over to her pulling out a knife. she stired in her sleep i paused for a moment. her blue eyes met mine i placed the knife down before she could see it "Atem?" I heard her whisper. I put a peice of cloth with a sleeping drug over her mouth"Your going to learn not to fuck with me and harm yugi you fucking bitch." I said sliding the knife angest her throat blood dripping from the place were the knife was. I smirked seeing the life drain from her eyes. I cleaned the knife and gathered my things heading home showereing and then heading back to bed with my sweet Aibou.

~In the morning back to yugi's pov~

I woke up to the smell of pancakes. i looked around seeing atem was gone. I left the room to see Atem in the kitchen. "oh hey there Aibou." He said a cheery look on his face. "Morning." I said walking into the kitchen. "Breakfast is ready but theres something else i wanted to talk to you about." He said placing a stack of pancakes on the table. "Ok? Whats up." I asked as we sat down. "That night after the fire when i said i wanted to be with you forvever i really meant that but there was something else some other feeling i had for you. Something other than friendship for you and now so many years later i have the chance to tell you how i really feel. Yugi I love you more than anything in the world. And i hope you feel the same." He said cupping my cheek. I felt so many emotions coursing thru me all at once but the strongest one of all was love. Love for Atem the other half of my soul. "I love you too Atem." I said leaning in and connecting our lips together. He kissed back. This was worth waiting for this was all i ever wanted in the world Atem here with me.

Could you imagine what would have happened if Ishizu actually beat Kaiba during Battle City? Like first, the audacity, but also the storytelling ramifications of this win could be fascinating.

Would Kaiba just let her win without some hissyfit, like demanding a rematch or just ending the tournament right there (like he almost did after god Duel with Yugi)? Would he begrudgingly accept it while punching the wall in his cabin?

She’d probably end up dueling Dark Marik during the finals (she has nothing to gain plot wise from Dark Yugi or Jounouchi), which leads to an actual Yugi vs Jou duel, something only teased during the anime.

Would Dark Marik end up with Obelisk, or does Ishizu pass it off to Yugi while no ones looking? How would that change the final duel?

I’m legitimately fascinated by this possibility (mostly because Ishizu deserved better).
