As someone who works in a pharmacy, I wholeheartedly support this. Mainly we ask for an rx for needles to ensure you get the right size (it’s impossible to know everyone’s preferences and needs) and so we can be sure we will have it when you need it. But we charge about 50 cents a pop, so if you can get a box of 100 of the size you need for 10-25 bucks that’s great!
In my state it is not required for an rx for needles and syringes, and I think it’s potentially illegal to deny access to clean needles (for ANY use; I never ask, but I’m pretty sure the folks buying syringes then immediately headed to our bathroom aren’t doing HRT, but none of my business as long as they don’t leave stuff behind)
When it comes to health related anything our system is fucky from top to bottom, it’s super important to be your own advocate and know what and how you take everything you take. But please be kind to your retail pharmacy teams, we don’t benefit anything by keeping meds from you, and the training (at any corporate retail) is severely lacking.
American trans pals: This is a good reminder that those of us with injectable HRT should go buy a few boxes of needles and syringes from the medical supply store. A box usually contains 100 units, and will be cheaper per unit than what you pay at the pharmacy individually.
A common pharmacy gatekeeping tactic is to insist on an Rx just for the needles, even when that is not required. Or to mix up the right needles, be unable to find them, etc.

ATTENTION PHARMACY WORKERS/PRESCRIBERS/ASTHMA PATIENTS!!
If you have not seen the news about the incredible dangers of SINGULAIR/Montelukast please read up on it. Here are multiple articles for your consideration.
New York Times (you will need an account to access this one. DM me and I can send you images)
FDA (this one is more scientific and perhaps makes it less easy to comprehend the severity of the effects)
GoodRX (because GoodRX is a prescriptions saving group, they open this with where to get the cheapest price for this drug which is crazy to me. Anyway better than the FDA article, not as in depth as the NYT article)
JamaNet (a brief overview of a scientific study which finds that adverse neuropsychiatric effects are more likely on this medication and prescribers should exercise caution)
TLDR:
This drug causes vivid and disturbing hallucinations in children and has led to multiple cases of severe mental illness and even self-inflicted deaths. Long-term effects, such as whether coming off the medication once symptoms have begun will cause them to go away, are not known.
Similar effects have been observed in adults as well though very little proper studies have been done and the government has not received even a fraction of the reports of adverse effects that the company got from parents and patients.
I'd like to end the post by saying that this drug is extremely effective at treating asthma without using inhalants, which is part of why it's still widely used after the symptoms were first shared publicly on a larger scale around 2019-2020. HOWEVER, the current FDA regulations do not "require" but do "suggest" that because of the potential for serious symptoms this only be prescribed as a last resort when other therapies do not work.
IF you are on this medication and have recently experienced new neuropsychiatric symptoms or events (hearing/seeing concerning things, having disturbing dreams or nightmares, or experiencing uncomfortable/alarming thoughts about hurting yourself) PLEASE reach out to your prescriber and discuss other potential options or if this medication may be causing the symptoms.
IF you are giving this medication to a child or teenager, speaking openly about mental health symptoms with them is very important so that they feel they can come to you with concerns about the side effects. Informing older children/teens of some of these risks so they can identify them might also be a good step to take.
REMEMBER that I am not a prescriber, just a pharmacy worker on the internet. I'm probably not the best person to be making a post like this, but I have seen multiple personal accounts on this website of peoples' struggles with these side effects, each with at most about 40 notes, typically just 4, and these aren't reaching 99.99% of people in similar situations who could use that knowledge. I myself have had multiple neuropsychiatric events related to medications I was taking and know how quickly things can spiral out of control in situations like this, which is why I'm urging you, PLEASE be careful and watch out for any new symptoms.

Day 1/29 of productivity
Trying again with a productivity challenge, except this time it's going to be 29 days- te same number of days as I have until my pharm exam. To count as a successful day, I need to study 20 flashcards twice, and do at least three sections of reading. I will take six quizzes a day as well.
challenges with this include : I work for 8 hours a day and am EXAUSTED afterwards, so I have to do everything in the morning (not really a problem); I have a friend visiting me for the next week, and because I work and also have them to hang out with, I will not have very much time (I will do my best to study on my work breaks)
I will try and update daily, but I'm not holding myself to that

This is the only photo I’ve taken of myself since Halloween. I took it at work on break the other day when I went out to vape. My mental health the past few weeks hasn’t been horrible but it doesn’t feel great either. I’m missing my dad for sure and my dog Flynn that passed away in October. I miss when the holidays actually felt jolly.
Anyway, I’m about to start watching the lord of the rings trilogy, so there must be some good in this world.
Hope you all have a merry Christmas and happy new year!

How Does The Drug Got Excreted / Eliminated From The Body?
Tumblr media
Drug excretion is an important process in pharmacology, encompassing the elimination of pharmaceutical substances from the body. While the ultimate elimination of all drugs is inevitable, the specific pathways involved can vary significantly. Some drugs undergo extensive metabolic transformations before being excreted, while others are expelled from the body in their original form.
The kidneys play a central role in excreting water-soluble substances, effectively filtering them from the bloodstream. Meanwhile, the biliary system handles drugs that remain unabsorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, providing an alternative route for elimination. Although excretion through auxiliary channels such as the intestines, saliva, sweat, breast milk, and lungs is typically minimal, certain volatile anesthetics and residual drug traces in breast milk can have notable impacts, particularly on vulnerable populations such as infants.
Renal excretion constitutes a significant portion of drug elimination, accounting for approximately 20% of the plasma that is filtered through the glomeruli. While most water and electrolytes are reabsorbed back into circulation, polar compounds like drug metabolites are excreted predominantly in urine. However, it’s important to note that renal excretion tends to decrease with age, necessitating careful dosage adjustments for elderly patients to mitigate potential adverse effects.
Numerous factors influence the process of renal excretion, including the extent of protein binding, the degree of drug ionization affecting reabsorption rates, fluctuations in urine pH that can alter excretion dynamics, and the impact of metabolic inhibitors on tubular secretion mechanisms.
Biliary elimination, on the other hand, occurs when drugs traverse the biliary epithelium via active transport mechanisms. However, this process is not without limitations, as transporter saturation can impose constraints on drug excretion rates. Typically, larger molecules containing polar and lipophilic groups are excreted through bile, while smaller molecules tend to favor renal elimination pathways.
In addition to renal and biliary routes, drugs may also be eliminated to varying extents through auxiliary pathways such as saliva, tears, feces, sweat, and exhalation. While the quantities eliminated through these routes are generally minimal, drug excretion in breast milk can pose significant concerns for lactating mothers, potentially exposing nursing infants to pharmacological agents.
Understanding the pharmacokinetic parameters governing drug excretion is paramount for optimizing therapeutic regimens and minimizing the risk of adverse effects. Key parameters include the rate of elimination, clearance, elimination rate constant, and biologic half-life for drugs undergoing first-order elimination kinetics.
In conclusion, drug excretion represents a broad process influenced by a myriad of factors, necessitating comprehensive consideration to ensure the safe and efficacious use of pharmacotherapy.

today I got a new job! im going to become a pharmacy technician ( ∩´͈ ᐜ `͈∩)
i have to go through all the final motions before i can start my first day, but im so excited! im going to be re-studying pre-algebra while studying for the national pharmacy tech exam. im planning on taking the exam 2 months from today, which means a lot of studying and focus.
i’ll be reading the following textbook as a background to medications and anatomy:
Tumblr media
While reading that, I’ll be:
practicing flashcards on several apps and via Quizlet (especially for medications)
doing test prep via apps, Union Test Prep’s website for the PTCE, and the 300+ practice questions available through the PTCB’s website (the PTCE Practice Bank)
taking a practice exam (the Pre-PTCE) from the PTCB the week before my actual exam to get feedback and do last minute prep on weak spots
After I pass, I’ll be moving on to Algebra 1 for mathematics studying (I’ll finish with Pre-Algebra before my pharmacy tech exam)

Dude.
I got a new position at work. One that I’ve been doing for months but there was no compensation for it.
I’m gonna make over $27 an hour. Holy shit. I got a fully adult job.
I’ve been making around $22 an hour, but I told management that I’d only take a $5/hour raise to take this job.
I’m in charge of all narcotics in a 300+ bed hospital. This is a dream come true. I

Got a cool cup at work on Tuesday!
It’s going pretty well, I’m still learning new stuff and we will have a totally new computer system on Tuesday so it’s going to be like relearning everything. Counting pills and stuff is the easy part but once I get into insurance stuff it’s more difficult. I’m trying my best though!
