That the two are mutually silly and affectionate recontextualizes the story a fair bit and I'm wondering if it was intentional on the part of the artist/writer? I'd assumed Victor was always askance and distant, that the two hadn’t known one another for long enough for her to be used to his desire for space (as a safety measure), though later chapters do show they've known one another and been friends for over half a decade.

^^This, look at this, is this something you can conceivably see these three do in the book's present? With Vic and Julie casually snuggling and all three going about different tasks in the common space with such an easy atmosphere? And Vic not wearing his inhibitors?

What this means is that the comic has some pretty good re-reading value, though some of that might be predicated on how much of the extra art one views— they are a lot more touchy and playful in the mini comics and whatnot than in the two books themselves. All of the other residents' displeasure at Vic makes more sense if he's being increasingly agitated and distant, rather than it being their norm, and David's behavior in the last few chapters of book two makes especial sense when you consider that he views Vic as spiraling.

(I can go off on a character analysis deep dive and rant, it'd be fun, I want to, but this was a post for a redraw rather than a ramble so I'll restrain myself.)

P2 WINS! The game they're playing announces, and of course, Harvey is preening. It was sheer luck, paired with his button-mashing play style, but a win is a win.

The kids are really onto something with these fighting games - not that he knows how to play beyond pushing the buttons at random, but he's figuring it out.

I agree with the Darkling honestly. He is a psychopath and yes he has lost all traces of humanity, but he is right and he should bloody kill everyone like?!?!? History is repeating itself again...

I did not expect stepping out of this book siding with the villain and hating the good guys, but I do, I absolutely do.

Like don't get me wrong he is a manipulative and psychopathic piece of shit but considering what is happening to the Grisha and that it has been happening for CENTURIES like... yes, please, just kill everyone at this point, I get it that he's come to this conclusion, how could he not? It does seem like the only way to survive.

Also Nikolai is the only sensible person in this whole book trying to actually work with Grisha and non-Grisha as equals WHICH IS THE SOLUTION OBVIOUSLY but he can't actually do it on a global scale and that says a lot with how people in Ravka think. Like there is one braincell in the whole book and it belongs to Nikolai 24/7.
