In celebration of Sera Myu history, this video played before each performance of the festival. It features a little of the first era of musicals (produced by Bandai), then recaps every show produced by Nelke up to the festival!

ok so i am obligated as both a longtime mutual who thinks i have a handle on ur tastes/interests, and as someone who has been desperately obsessed with a piece of media for months and needs to drag more people in with me, to say: i think u should watch shoujo kageki revue starlight. i'm not even saying u should liveblog it if u dont want to, but i think you'd genuinely love it. idk how much u know about it and i dont want to spoil anything but i will say the director worked with ikuhara and was pretty influenced by him. also it's very very gay (plus besides the anime+movie there's a bunch of stage musicals and the cast has a wild amount of sera myu revival overlap. koyama momoyo, who played ami in petit etrangere and un nouveau voyage, plays the protagonist in all the properties, and in the stage musicals they also brought in nanaki kanon (rei), nomoto hotaru (usagi in amour eternal and le mouvement final), and kuge kokoro (one of the chibiusa actresses))

also of course this is all moot if you've already seen it sometime in the past few years but. if you haven't i really really think you'd enjoy it

Sera Myu Week - Day 1

The first prompt! I am not fully back to Tumblr, so I think I’m gonna stick with rankings for most of the prompts! But this’ll help you get a bit of a better look at me! @sera-myu-week

Day 1, Dark Kingdom. Gonna rank all the Dark Kingdom Myu. Gonna exclude The Super Live & Shining Moon Tokyo since we haven’t seen them in full. But just know, I do really love both casts and they would probably be high up on the list. xD 5. Gaiden: Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen (1993)

Scan from https://www.shiningmoon.com.pl/ As you may have expected, Gaiden is at the bottom of my list. I’m sorry, it’s still my least-favorite musical. I have found charm in it when I rewatched it a year ago, but it definitely struggled a lot. It was the first musical, and it definitely has the worst growing pains out of all of them. But, it gave us ANZA and La Soldier, so it definitely was good for something, at least. XD

4. NogiMyu - Team MOON (2018)

Man, the NogiMyu fanwars really had me disliking this version for a very long time. xD I actually REALLY like it now. I prefer the other 2 versions of NogiMyu, but it definitely has its charm! It’s crazy to me that only 2 of the senshi are still in Nogizaka46 now (Riria and Mizuki)! 

3. La Reconquista (2013)

You know, there’s just something I really love about La Reconquista but I just can’t put my finger on it. Besides Petite Etrangere, it’s definitely one of the weaker Nelke Musicals, and yet, I just like it? Watching the Blu-ray, I couldn’t believe how much I was enjoying it. I think for being the musical tha revived Myu, it did a good job. It set the tone that eventually lead us to getting even better musicals later! PLUS THE INNERS CAST IS AMAZING <3 (Even Miyabi. I love her too. XD)

2. NogiMyu 2019

NogiMyu 2019 was honestly so good. I will say, watching it for the first time, I didn’t really feel it as I was VERY in love with Team STAR. But, over time, I REALLY grew to love this cast. I can’t pick a favorite between Shiori, Junna, and Seira. They’re all SO good. Plus, the amazing supporting cast from the past NogiMyu performances. Mayu was a bit of a weak link from the inners, but she’s still good and has improved a lot in Nogizaka46 since then!

1. NogiMyu - Team STAR (2018)

I’ve been gone for a while, but you guys KNOW this was gonna be my first place. Even now, it still ranks either my favorite or second-favorite musical of all time (it switches daily XD). I loved this cast SO much. SayuriMoon is one of my all-time faves and she will remain supreme in my eyes! It was the first NogiMyu version I saw, and my heart will always remain with Team STAR. ALSO HELLO QUEEN KANA NAKADA THE LEGEND I LOVE HER SO MUCH.

So I’m watching Petite Etrangere for the first time finally, and I’m kind of wondering...

The droid scouts, are those a separate casting or the main cast’s understudies?

I mean, it’d be a problem if a main cast member had an issue for a showing but otherwise...it’s just about perfect, lol.

New Sera Myu Jupiter Ranking

Well since I did Neptune yesterday I might as well carry on XD

13. Kaori Sakata

Still the same, still just don’t really like her as Makoto.

12. Takako Inayoshi

She didn’t really do much, and we never got a solo so I can’t judge her by singing.

11. Akari Tonegawa

Okay, she’s gone up because she did actually have a solo. It was okay, but she was trying to sound like a cute chibi-Mako, so I’m still not a massive fan.

10. Mai Watanabe

I just can’t like her as Jupiter, sorry :( I still don’t like her voice and think she would have made a much better Haruka.

9. Yuriko Hayashi

She was just too cute for me, definitely a good singer, but I would have liked her Jupiter to be a little stronger.

8. Chiho Ooyama

I do think she is quite underrated actually, especially in her dancing skills which were one of the better ones in the Shin Densetsu Kourin cast. I just would have liked a solo from her.

7. Ayano Sugimoto

Ayano’s kind of grown on me XD yeah, her voice is not at all suited for the character, and she might have done better in a different role, but there was some moments where I actually thought she was pretty good!

6. Marie Sada

I think Marie’s quite underrated, I quite liked her Mako! Her voice was amazing from the small solo she got, and she made a nice Jupiter. Her dancing skills were quite off though.

5. Kaede

I used to really like Kaede, but going over her performances she actually seemed a little stiff and nervous to me. I’m not sure if she was nervous or just forgot to perform rather than just sing Sky of Jewels in her solo, but it was quite noticeable to me. I do think her voice was perfect for Jupiter.

4. Emika Satou

Aw I really love Emika but I’m not quite sure why! XD I loved her in both the Stars and Stars Kaiteiban versions of Sailor Busters, her voice was amazing and she was just such a fun Makoto, which I really liked.

3. Kanoko

Don’t ask me why I adore Kanoko so much I just do XD at first I will admit I really didn’t like her, she was just super stiff, but after seeing her in Sakurakko Club where her moves looked a lot better I started to love her! She had a great balance between a fun and flowery Makoto and a strong and courageous Jupiter, and her voice was really nice. Only reason she’s not second place is because she forgot to express while performing sometimes.

2. Yuu Takahashi

Yeah, I’m shook someone from 2013-15 Myu is this high up too XD she might have played a version of Jupiter that I really don’t like, but for some reason I like her for it XD okay, the wrestling match with her clone in Petite Etrangere makes me want to vom but I blame the writers for that rather than the actress, at least she did it well? XD

1. Emi Kuriyama

Omg this QUEEN made me not hate Jupiter as much as I did! Like, I could not dislike the character at all while queen Emi played her XD she was fun, but also strong and protective, and had a great Jupiter singing voice and looked GORGEOUS! I just love my queen of Jupiter Emi so muuuuuch <3

Also not included Karina Okada since she was never in an actual musical.

u know the first time i saw mikako being announced as pluto, i was hyped up because she really looks like setsuna. i wasn’t following La Reconquista closely because i was not really interested in the dark kingdom arc, so i only followed the new myu during Petite Etrangere, right from the announcement of the cast.

then came Un Nouveau Voyage, and shuu & sayaka looked exactly like how i would imagine haruka & michiru to look like irl. just go through my archive to see how much i was hyped about them even BEFORE they performed.

the 2nd batch of inners look their part or mainly it was because most of them look like their predecessors :p

the new myu was also spot on with the casting of the starlights, especially sakii, because i too thought she looks exactly like yaten even before she performed.

but i don’t see that in any of the new inners announced for this year. sighs. height difference matters a lot to me but mako and moon have a 3cm height difference for the first group. why.

3) Your Favorite Musical?

For old myu it’s Kaguya Shima Densetsu Kaiteiban

For new myu it’s either Petite Etrangere or Un Nouveau Voyage

4) Your Favorite Sailor Moon Actress?

Satomi! Even though she can’t really sing....

5) Say one positive thing about every Sailor Moon Actress.

Anza: Really set the bar high for her successors. A great actress and singer.

Fumina: Very elegant and I like her voice.

Miyuki: A perfect Usagi, she was a great performer.

Marina: A great singer and dancer. She was amazing, especially considering she was only 12 when she got the part.

Satomi: Real life Usagi to me. Such a great actress, she really nailed the part.

Hotaru: Really cute, and she did a good job even though she was thrown into the middle of the story.

6) Is Sera Myu your favorite version of Sailor Moon?

Yes, as well as the old anime and PGSM.

7) Who is your favorite cast member?

Old myu: Hikari Ono

New myu: Riona Tatemichi

8) Are your first favorites your actual favorites? (name them)

I always loved Satomi and her Inners (from PE and UNV), and they are still among my favorites. Since then I have gotten a lot more favorites though, like Nao and Yuuka, Ayumi Murata, RIONA, Sayaka Fujioka, Mikako Ishii... I have a lot.

9) If you could say one sentence to your myu favorite: What do you want to say him/her?

I would tell her that I really admire her and that she did great in the different roles she had for myu. Also that I love her dancing.

10) Which Sailor Moon Story do you want on stage?

I want to see everything that Haruka and Michiru were doing during Super S.

No but really a Sailor V story would be cool. Or a PGSM spin on the first arc.

11) Tell me your top 3 underrated actors.

Ado Endo, Hisano Akamine, Nao Inada.

12) Give 3 actors new roles.

Airi Kanda: Sailor Moon. I would love to see this in 2019 myu.

Fumina Hara: Ami! I think she would have been a great Ami.

And Hikari Ono as Professor Tomoe.

13) Combine classic and revival myu: What does it look like?

New myu costumes, wigs, and set designs with the old original story myus, kaguya and the dracul arc!

14) Revival myu song you want in classic myu?

Eye of the Storm, Line up, Ai no Starshine.

15) Tell me an unpopular opinion you have about myu.

I don’t really know what the popular and unpopular opinions are hahaha. 

16) Ai no Starshine or Music of the Spheres?

I love both but Music of the Spheres because it always gets stuck in my head! And the scene with it in LMF was amazing!

17) The Last Change or it’s 21st Century Version?

Marina’s lower pitch version hehe

Harsh Saint Cry, but Choubi is soooo catchy.

Hmmm, that there’s no subtitles for the DVDs... 

20) What do you expect for the 2019 Musical?

What I want for 2019 myu is some original stories or something, but I expect they will just do the 5 arcs over again with a new cast and maybe some new twists. Maybe it will be more anime than manga based this time.

21) How important are dancing abilities of the actors for you?

Kind of important, I mean they don’t have to be great but at least not look stiff.

22) Which Myu Merchendaise you want? (you can name non existing too)

I would like officially subbed DVDs.

23) Are you sad that Luna and Artemis disappered after Gaiden?

Nope lol. 

24) And interessting (non-existing) Haru-Michi couple?

Nao and Sayaka would be cool.

Myu is such a good version of Sailor Moon and I wish it was appreciated by more fans. I also hope I’ll be able to go see the new musical in 2019!

This might be a hard question but as a whole which ones do you like more, the old Myu musicals or the new ones and why? I personally prefer the old ones.

Oh, old myu, hands down.

I think the new myus have their strong points, namely that they’re a bit more coherent and they do a lot of things that strike that THIS IS CANON nerve for me (like Beryl in armor and how they handled the animamates), and I consider Petite Etrangere to be pretty much perfect

But the old Myus were so fun! And they were a lot more than the same five stories we know with minor tweaks. I love the original stories, and I love that when they did the main 5, they almost always threw in major new elements (whether it’s Beryl, or Vampires, or FULL OUTERS CAST IN R).

ALSO THEY HAD BETTER MUSIC. The New Myus have some great hits, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of the songs feel kind of cut short. To me the old myus were so much about the music, and the new ones feel like the songs are almost an afterthought in a lot of cases.

I could go on and on, but yeah, old myus. I love the new myus (except for when I don’t, hahaha) but the classic myus are just iconic

Your thoughts of Satomi Okubo ACTUALLY playing Sailor Cosmos.

First thought: OH SHIT IT’S HAPPENING!I’m beyond excited and happy about it!!!!! :DDDDThe photo of Satomi as Cosmos looks AMAZING, and I have never been shy in admitting I love the Satomi-moon Inner cast more than the Hotaru-moon cast. I still love Hotaru-moon cast plenty though! Knowing Satomi is involved in the production is also a pretty good guarantee that we’d see the previous inner cast to show up in photos, so that’s another thing I’ll look forward to. This is especially precious now given Shiori is quitting the show business. :’(After the initial surprise though, I thought more of what this may mean for the production itself. This makes me wish they would do something like the start in Petite Etrangere in Le Mouvement Final, that they’d start the show off with a scene of the distant future to hype the tension up - also more stage time for Satomi! (In comparison, I didn’t appreciate the opening act in Amour Eternal, the song felt very weak to me as an opening, even though I appreciate the meaning behind it with the song lyrics.) They could easily just take the Queen Serenity approach in LR and AE for Cosmos in LMF, but given the hype of also announcing Satomi is Cosmos, I think they’d give Satomi a bit more stage time, or even backstage voicing/singing than the Queen Serenity had in the past. Fingers crossed though.

But on the other hand, IF they do intend to give Satomi more stage time, that means Act 2 would be solely focused on the final battle, which likely means group battles and more focus on Moon and Starlight in Act 2 while the other Senshi are under Galaxia’s control, or just dead. I don’t know how I feel about that. I’m already not that excited that Stars Arc will be squished into just one musical with such a HUGE CAST. These cast and characters are all amazing and I lovely them to bits, and for that reason I want all the Senshi to have their moment to shine in the musical.  UNV did SUPER well with that, but I felt like it wasn’t done well in AE, so I’m not too optimistic with how they’d approach having 10 Sailor Senshi, Tuxedo Mask, Starlights & Kakyuu, ChibiChibi AND Cosmos in one musical, when Galaxia and her senshi will be a huge deal too…  They are all major characters in their own right and I want the musicals to portray them and do them right.

That being said, I’m still very looking forward to LMF, and I’m gonna enjoy seeing all the rehearsal photos with Satomi in them! :D Maybe someone who has watch Old Myu will offer insight on how the issues I anticipated can be resolved after reading my rant, but I’m just gonna wait to see it and make sure when I do, I’ll go in with an open mind.
