A few thing's about the Muny's Les Mis that really stuck out to me:

Overall this is probably the first time that the interpersonal relationships really landed for me in a production of Les Mis. Intellectually I always understood that Valjean took in Cosette because he felt responsible for Fantine's suffering, but John Riddle did an excellent part in portraying Valjean's guilt. Peter Neureuther and Emily Bautista also got across Marius and Eponine's friendship really well. You felt the friendship and love between them.

The staging for At the End of the Day had Valjean up on the second level, watching the women and the foreman mob Fantine but not doing anything to intervene. In the transition to I Dreamed a Dream everyone left the stage except Valjean (still above her) and Fantine. Fantine looked up at Valjean, and he turned away and left her alone.

Valjean and Cosette both humming Castle on a Cloud while he leads her out of the woods and back to the Thenardier's inn 🥺

Jordan Donica sang the best version of Stars I have ever heard. That's all.

Though the musical never mentions that Gavroche and Eponine are siblings, the director obviously took pains to ensure the actors knew this. Gavroche was always watching Eponine when she was on stage with him, though they didn't interact all that much.

Emily Bautista is probably one of the best Eponine's I've ever seen. She's joyful in her scenes with Marius - you get why she's in love with him - but also has a clear chip on her shoulder when interacting with her father. Her On My Own was likewise great; we love an Eponine who expresses more than just general sadness.

During A Little Fall of Rain, no one notices that Eponine's been shot at first. Marius and Eponine sing while everyone else at the barricade goes on about their business like nothing's happening. Gavroche is the one who notices that Eponine is dying, and he rushes to get Grantaire and Enjolras's attention, at which point everyone realizes what's happened. Gavroche is visibly distraught, and one of the women hugs him and covers his eyes, forcing him to look away as Eponine dies. Graintaire also comforts him, and they continue to shield Gavroche as Eponine's body is taken away.

The aftermath of A Little Fall of Rain is haunting. Even Enjolras is visibly shaken; you can see in everyone's faces that Eponine's death has brought the glory of the revolution to a halt in the face of the reality that they could all die.

During Drink With Me, when Graintaire stares to sing his verse everyone in the barricade flinches, and Enjolras and some of the others rush forward to try and stop him from continuing.

In the after math of the barricade, Javert comes on stage and first sees the bodies of the men. Then the turntable turns to show the other side of the barricade, where only Gavroche's body is. Javert is visibly shaken by this; he struggles to give orders to the other soldiers afterwards. You really get the sense that this, in addition to Valjean's sparing of him earlier, is what tips him over the edge.

I saw this on Friday so I know I'm forgetting other things but this was just SUCH a lovely production. I wish I could sear it into my brain so I could remember every little piece of it always. I'll never be able to watch the movie again.

Sebastian Vettel Elected LupoLeo Personality of the Year 2024: "A Great Honor!"

The youth committee of the LupoLeo Awards has decided: Former racing driver Sebastian Vettel is the LupoLeo "Personality of the Year" 2024. The young people aged 14 to 18 chose the four-time Formula 1 world champion for his diverse social commitment. In addition, the youth committee selected ten projects for the jury's selection of the "Project Award" from the 33 projects that were finally nominated by the non-profit analysis and consulting company PHINEO from the 235 registrations. The prominent jury of the LupoLeo Award, chaired by Dr. Brigitte Mohn (including singer Peter Maffay, former ski racer Felix Neureuther, doctor and television presenter Dr. Eckart von Hirschhausen and television presenter Wolfram Kons), will now choose the three project winners.

The LupoLeo Award, endowed with a total of 100,000 euros, is the largest funding award for commitment to children and young people in Germany, and this year's motto is "For a healthy future for our children and our planet." It will be awarded at a celebratory gala on November 23, 2024 in the Braunschweig State Theater. The "Personality of the Year" category honors a public figure who is committed to children and young people and promotes children's development through their work or appearance. In addition to Sebastian Vettel, the comedian, singer and actress Carolin Kebekus, as well as the chemist, science journalist and YouTuber Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim, were in the final selection for the award, which comes with 20,000 euros in funding. Ultimately the young people chose Vettel, who, after his active career as a racing driver, is increasingly committed to environmental and climate protection. With his V5 Projects he raises awareness and explains to the public the importance of these issues. His commitment includes, for example, projects to protect biodiversity (Buzzin' Corner insect hotels on and outside Formula 1 tracks), or he also addresses the topic of sustainability in motorsport under the campaign name "Race Without Trace." "It is an honor and a pleasure for me to be awarded the LupoLeo Award. Whether at home, at school or in public, more and more children and young people are committed to the earth and their own future. This inspires me as a family man and shows how important our future generations are for us and our planet. We congratulate Sebastian Vettel on behalf of the entire LupoLeo Award team on his election. This painting by Eugen Neureuther monumentalizes his memories of the Villa Mills, which was built in Rome in the 16th century. Two wall hangings showcase the magnificent view for which the villa was famous. On the left wall hanging, the Baths of Caracalla are depicted, on the right, St. Peter. The villa changed owners a few times and was continuously rebuilt and expanded. Since the villa had been built on the ruins of early Roman palaces, it was demolished in the name of archaeology in the early 20th century.

This is the first of 10 lyric videos for Munarheim's 2014 debut album "Nacht und Stürme werden Licht".

It is an exceptional album. Genre-wise, I'd classify it as symphonic black metal with folk influences. In terms of lyrics and general vibe, it shows strong influences from German Romanticism. I have therefore used works by German painters from the first half of the 19th century as background images for these videos, and I will talk a bit about the paintings themselves as well. At first I even edited information about the paintings into the videos themselves, but they became too cluttered and broke the mood of the song. Now that info is in comments under the videos, and, on tumblr, in the post itself. I want the paintings to not just be decoration, I also want to create a connection between the 19th century artworks and the 21st century music that carries on the same philosophical tradition.

This is one of my favourite albums of all time, very underrated, and I think it's especially a shame that no one outside of Germany seems to know it. Maybe a few people will be interested in getting to know it a little bit.

So läuft der zwölfte Olympia-Tag Mindestens ein kleines Wunder ist immer drin 15.02.2022, 20:36 Uhr Große Favoriten gibt es am zweiten olympischen Mittwoch von Peking aus deutscher Sicht nicht, aber drei Chancen auf kleine Sensationen: Die Biathlon-Frauen müssen Farbe bekennen, Skifahrer Linus Straßer hat sich noch in den Anwärterkreis gefahren und die Langläuferinnen wollen wieder Schweine sein. Biathlon: Welches Gesicht zeigen die deutschen Biathlon-Frauen im Staffelrennen (ab 8.45 Uhr/ARD und im Liveticker auf ntv.de) ihrem vorletzten Wettkampf? Das goldige vom starken Einzelwettkampf über 15 Kilometer, in dem Denise Herrmann völlig überraschend gewann und Vanessa Voigt die Bronzemedaille nur ganz knapp verpasste? Oder das enttäuschende und enttäuschte aus dem Sprint, der mit einem deutschen Debakel endete und auch das Verfolgungsrennen zu einer Trainingsrunde unter Wettkampfbedingungen degradierte? Voigt, Vanessa Hinz, Franziska Preuß und Herrmann werden über 4x6 Kilometer die Antwort geben. Die deutschen Frauen schafften es in vier Weltcup-Staffeln vor Olympia nicht einmal aufs Treppchen, es wäre eigentlich an der Zeit. Doch die Konkurrenz ist stark: Mit den Norwegerinnen gibt es einen Topfavoriten, auch Schweden und die Belarusinnen sind stark einzuschätzen. 2014 und 2018 war das Team des Deutschen Skiverbandes jeweils leer ausgegangen. Nach acht von elf Wettkämpfen bleiben Herrmann und Co. nur noch drei Rennen, um das schwächste deutsche Olympia-Ergebnis überhaupt abzuwenden. Nur eine Medaille hatte es seit der Wiedervereinigung im Biathlon noch nie gegeben, zweimal Silber 2014 in Sotschi sind das bislang schwächste Resultat für die einstigen Medaillensammler. Ski alpin: Noch gar keine Medaille hat der Deutsche Ski-Verband zum Gesamtergebnis der deutschen Olympia-Mannschaft beigesteuert. Denkbar knapp verpassten Lena Dürr und Kira Weidle im Slalom und in der Abfahrt jeweils als Vierte Edelmetall. "Es ist so bitter. Die Enttäuschung ist erstmal groß", sagte die 25-jährige Weidle am Dienstag nach ihrem geplatzten Traum und kämpfte mit den Tränen. Nun liegt es an Linus Straßer, die Bilanz zu verbessern: Im Slalom (2. Lauf ab 6.45 Uhr) geht der Bayer als Medaillenkandidat an den Start. Dass Straßer im erweiterten Favoritenkreis auftaucht, ist vor allem einem Rennen zu verdanken: Beim legendären Nachtslalom von Schladming raste er Ende Januar überraschend zum Sieg - und ist in diesem olympischen Winter damit einer von nur drei Fahrern, die im Slalom zweimal auf dem Podest standen. Konstanz ist allerdings nicht die Sache des erfolgreichsten deutschen Slalomfahrers seit dem Rücktritt Felix Neureuthers: Einmal wurde er noch 14., zweimal schied er aus. "Zwischen Leid und sowas hier liegt so wenig", stellte auch Straßer nach seinem famosen Schladming-Sieg fest. Im Riesenslalom war er im ersten Durchgang ausgeschieden. Nun aber geht es wieder um den Triumph, den größten, den der Sport zu bieten hat. Langlauf: Die Silbermedaille für die deutsche Langlauf-Staffel der Frauen war eine der großen positiven Überraschungen aus deutscher Sicht bei diesen Olympischen Winterspielen. Völlig überraschend war das deutsche Team in die Phalanx der Skandinavierinnen eingebrochen. Auch für den Teamsprint machen sich die Deutschen nun Hoffungen. "Auch da haben wir eine Chance. Wir sind natürlich jetzt heiß, keine Frage", sagte Katharina Hennig und sagte dann einen Satz, den sie schon vor Staffel-Silber ausgesprochen hatte: "Wir werden wieder kämpfen wie die Schweine." Hennig geht ab 10.15 Uhr mit Katherine Sauerbrey ins Rennen, um den Coup aus einem der dramatischsten Langlauf-Rennen der jüngeren Vergangenheit zu wiederholen. Nach zwischenzeitlich großem Abstand auf die Plätze drei und vier rettete die deutsche Staffel am Ende einen Vorsprung von 2,5 Sekunden auf die drittplatzierten Schwedinnen und drei Sekunden auf Finnland "auf der letzten Rille" ins Ziel, wie es Teamchef Peter Schlickenrieder formulierte. Favorisiert sind Norwegen, Schweden, und die USA. Wegen der extremen Kälte sind die Wettbewerbe vorgezogen worden. Ursprünglich waren die Rennen jeweils 105 Minuten später angesetzt gewesen. In den chinesischen Bergen macht große Kälte den Sportlern zu schaffen. Beim Skisprung-Teamwettkampf sanken die Temperaturen auf unter minus 20 Grad. Bei den Männern gehen nach Hennig/Sauerbrey Albert Kuchler und Janosch Brugger für Deutschland ins Rennen. Ski Freestyle: Kein Deutscher konnte sich für die Finals im Slopestyle der Freestyle-Skiartisten qualifizieren. Spektakulär wird der Wettbewerb ab 2.30 Uhr dennoch. Im Slopestyle gleiten die Sportlerinnen auf einem anspruchsvollen Kurs über Eisenstangen und springen über Schneeschanzen. Dabei zeigen sie spektakuläre Flugeinlagen - mitunter sogar rückwärts. Gleiches gilt für die zweite Freestyle-Entscheidung des Tages: Auch bei den Aerials ist kein deutscher Starter vertreten. In der Disziplin Aerials springen die Athletinnen über eine steile Schanze fast senkrecht nach oben in die Luft und zeigen spektakuläre Kombinationen aus Salti, Drehungen und Grätschen (ab 12 Uhr). Shorttrack: "Olympia hat immer eigene Regeln und Gesetze. Es gab so viele Stürze, so viele Favoriten sind rausgeflogen. Jeder ist nervös. Mein Ziel ist es, auf jeden Fall ins Halbfinale zu kommen. Da ist dann im Shorttrack alles möglich", sagt Anna Seidel. Die 23-Jährige ist Deutschlands beste Shorttrackerin und rechnet sich über 1500 Meter ab 12.30 Uhr durchaus etwas aus. Die zweimalige Europameisterin, die schon 2014 mit gerade einmal 15 Jahren in Sotchi ihre ersten Olympischen Spiele erlebte, gehört nicht zur absoluten Weltspitze, in Deutschland ist sie aber unantastbar. Und wenn erstmal das Halbfinale geschafft ist, dann ist eben auch alles möglich. Im Shorttrack gehen die Kufenathletinnen auf - im Vergleich zum klassischen Eisschnelllaufen - kürzeren und engeren Bahnen in ihre Rennen. In der Staffel über 5000 Meter startet kein deutsches Team.

Langjährige Mitglieder geehrt

 Zwingenberg.  (pm) Der Vorsitzende des TC Neckar, Thomas Neureuther, konnte zu der diesjährigen Mitgliederversammlung die anwesenden Mitglieder sowie zahlreiche Ehrenmitglieder und Bürgermeister Norman Link begrüßen. In seinem Rückblick stellte er besonders den Mitgliederzuwachs von neun Neueintritten und der Gesamtzahl von 164 Mitgliedern dar – ein Rekord in der über 40-jährigen Geschichte des TCN. In seinem Jahresrückblick erinnerte Thomas Neureuther an das 40-jährige Jubiläum, das man in vergangenen Jahr mit einem Festabend in der Peter-Kirchesch-Halle und an einem ganzen Wochenende auf der Tennisanlage gefeiert hatte. Er dankte allen Mitwirkenden, die es möglich machten, dieses große Fest zu stemmen. Die Festzeitschrift mit Chronik wurde von den vielen Gästen besonders gelobt. Sportwart Nico Neureuther informierte die Mitglieder, dass in der nächsten Saison wieder fünf Mannschaften den TC Neckar im Badischen Tennisverband vertreten werden. Am 13. Juni 2020 veranstaltet der Tennisclub wieder sein traditionelles Jedermann-Turnier, an dem sich jetzt schon wieder verschiedene Gruppen anmelden dürfen. Der Kassier Norbert Gaebel berichtete von einer finanziellen soliden Lage des Vereins und wurde nach seinem einwandfreien Kassenbericht einstimmig entlastet. Für ihre besonderen Verdienste um den TC Neckar zeichnete der 1. Vorsitzende die Geschäftsführer der Firma HLT (Neckargerach) Caroline Lauber-Wirth und Christopher Lauber, die zugleich auch Vereinsmitglieder sind, sowie das aktive Mitglied Erol Kara aus. Bürgermeister Norman Link betonte in seinem Grußwort die herrliche Lage der Tennisanlage und erinnerte daran, dass der Erhalt und die Weiterentwicklung der Anlage, wie auch des Vereins insgesamt, die Aufgabe der jungen Generation ist. Er dankte Thomas Neureuther mit seinem Team für das große Engagement auch auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene. Denn die Kooperation mit der Minneburgschule wie auch der Johannes-Diakonie sowie die Teilnahme am Kinderferienprogramm seien nicht selbstverständlich und bedürfen eines besonderen Engagements.
