One Injury, Two Cases? | Can I Have A Workers Comp AND a Third Party Case? - [Call 312-500-4500]
In this video, injury lawyer Scott DeSalvo discusses a common but complex issue that arises in workers comp cases: what happens if you get injured while working but it's someone else's fault? Scott provides examples of situations where this might occur, such as a truck driver getting hit by another driver or a construction worker falling due to a safety violation. The good news is that if you're in this situation, you can potentially have both a workers comp case and a third-party lawsuit.
Scott explains the benefits of having both cases and the differences in damages you can claim. While workers comp damages are capped, a third-party case allows for unlimited damages, including pain and suffering, disability, and future treatment costs. If you find yourself in this situation, it's important to consult with a lawyer to navigate the complexities. Watch the video to learn more and get the information you need to protect your rights.
When an employee is injured at work due to someone else's fault, they may have both a workers' compensation case and a third-party lawsuit. Examples include a truck driver injured in a collision caused by another driver or a construction worker hurt due to a general contractor's safety violation. Workers' compensation provides benefits like paid time off, medical care, and settlements without proving employer negligence, but damages are capped.
A third-party lawsuit allows for unlimited damages determined by a judge or jury, including claims for pain and suffering, disability, and future medical expenses. Combining workers' compensation with a third-party lawsuit can be beneficial but complicated, so consulting a lawyer is recommended.

Dive In ☆ Merman! Gojo x Scrientist! Reader | Kinktober Day 14
Summary: You were brought in to study a merman whom you heard was quite aggressive; however, he’s always been kind to you. You were able to get close. Maybe a bit too close.
Word Count: 3978
Tags: Merman!Gojo, afab!reader, vaginal penetration, scratch marks, porn with plot, cunnilingus, handjobs, experimental sex, mating, government facilities, the reader becomes a fugitive, mating rituals, creampie, breeding, transformations, wet dreams.
When you got a call from the federal government you didn’t know what to expect. You were honestly a bit worried that you had done something you weren’t supposed to and were going to be silenced. The last thing you expected to see however was a mermaid, or merman in this case.
You were a NOAA scientist and had seen so many strange sea creatures, so the possibility of mermaids being out there wasn't out of the realm of possibility. However, you didn’t think that they would exist like this. The closest thing humanity has had to mermaids is manatees and dugongs. When thinking critically this is what most people assumed mermaids would look similarly to. That they would have rough skin and blubber and coarse hair or fur. However, this merman swimming before you looked like something right out of a fairy tale.
Based on the way it floated around his head, his hair looked to be the same texture as human hair. His whole upper half looked to be very human aside from the gills you could see on the sides of his neck, the fins on his arms, and the fin-like ears he had.
“Ah Dr.L/N, Pleased to meet you,” An older man came up to you and extended his hand. He was in a fine pair of slacks and a pristine button-down with a black tie and white lab coat overtop.
You took his hand and gave it a firm shake. He introduced himself as the lead researcher for this top-secret project and gave you the rundown. A fisherman from a small town in Kauai, Hawaii called in about a wild animal of some sort stealing fish. Eventually, another fisherman got a strange “Fishman” caught in his nets and called the Coast Guard, and from there, it became a bit more about coverup from the general public. The fisherman was compensated handsomely to keep hush and this merman was carted off to this government facility.
They began running tests and researching the merman however he attacked one of the researchers and they ended up losing an eye. So they had to pivot and decided to bring in someone with expertise in predatory marine life, that being you.
You looked back at the white-haired merman in the tank, he didn’t look aggressive, but you’d have to be an idiot to think that he wasn’t actually dangerous.
“I’ll let you take over as lead researcher, come on and I’ll introduce you to the team.” You followed after him and met the other researchers. It was a small group, most likely for the sake of confidentiality. They were kind but you didn’t want to waste any time chatting when you were eager to learn more about the merman.
The tank of the merman was that of a large shark, it was important to keep a new species as comfortable as possible to avoid any personal injuries. At the bottom it was made of the usually thick tempered glass of any high-grade aquarium, Is almost twenty feet deep of water, wide enough for the merman to swim freely without bumping into the walls, and filled to the brim with clean salt water filtering into the tank.
A cage was newly added on top of the tank after the first incident to ensure the workers' safety. So the only way to get up close and personal was up the flight of stairs and through the locked door to stand on the built-in ledge over the water/tank opening.
You walked back over to the tank where the merman swam around lethargically. You ripped off a paper from a nearby notepad and took the pen as you began writing basic facts about his appearance.
Long white hair, pale skin, silvery-blue scales covering the tail, and a few stray clusters of scales in the torso here and there, slightly forked caudal fin, fins are a translucent dark blue. About 12 ft long. You looked back up and were met with the merman in question staring back at you. His eyes were such a mesmerizing shade of blue, like the sky, or shining jewels.
You wondered if it was an evolutionary trait to aid hunting. His webbed hands were pressed up against the glass with his sharp nails on display.
Yeah, definitely dangerous. You thought, thinking back to the researcher who lost an eye.
One of the researchers called for you and when you turned back round the merman had swam to the back of the tank. You were looking forward to officially starting work.
-----------------------
The first few days you spent observing the merman’s behaviors. It seemed like he could tell what fish had been the most recently caught because that’s what he prefers.
You put in an order request for aquatic plants as you wanted to see if he was omnivorous however they hadn’t come in yet. Based on his behavior you would say that he’s just as curious about you as you are to him. He had never displayed aggressive behavior when you were around and he wasn’t exactly eating from your hand but you could hand the fish to him at feeding times instead of tossing it into the tank like the other researchers.
You were sitting by the tank, reviewing your notes and drawing diagrams of his outward physiology when you heard someone call your name.
“Hello?” You called out, looking up from your work, however no one was there.
“Y/N…” They called out again. You looked towards the tank and saw the merman peering over the edge, his hands were gripping the metal bars and he was looking at you curiously.
“Y/N,” He repeated…
“You can talk?!” The merman cocked his head before diving back into the tank. You raced to the top and peered over the edge. He swam back to the top and looked at you.
“Y/N.” He can really talk.
“Yes, that’s my name, Y/N.” You said, gesturing to yourself.”Do you have a name?”
“Y/N,” he repeated once again. You sighed. Maybe he can only make parrot noises. It was impressive nonetheless.
“I am Y/N, you are…?”
“Sa..to..ru,” He said. “Satoru,” He said. His bright eyes stare back at you.
“Okay then, nice to meet you Satoru,” You smiled.
-----------------------
Satoru picked up speaking fairly quickly, he wasn't fluent and often flubbed his sentences but he had a good grasp of language. With that addition, it became much easier to observe his personality and mannerisms.
He had no concept of money but boy did he have expensive taste. Almost immediately after learning how to speak, he began voicing complaints and making requests. Apparently, the cod and red snapper he’s being fed aren’t good enough, and after much back and forth on what exactly he was talking about he requested bluefin tuna, Alaskan salmon, and swordfish.
He was very playful, at least with you. He Loved to call your name… and to tell the other researchers to go away. Those were his favorite things to say.
You walked up the stairs with your lunch and lunch for Satoru, which was halibut today.
“Hello, Y/N,” Satoru said, quickly swimming up to the surface and flashing you a sharp-tooth smile.
“Hello Satoru,” You tossed him the fish and he began eating eagerly. You applied sanitizer then wiped your hands with a wet wipe before opening your lunch to begin eating.
“What’s that?” Satoru asked, looking back at you, he was somehow already done eating.
“This is nigiri sushi, it’s thinly sliced raw fish over rice. Wanna try some?”
“Really?” He said, with wide eyes. You nodded, taking a piece of salmon nigiri and offering it to him. Instead of taking it, he ate it straight out of your hand in one bite. His cold lips tickled and he licked the stray grains of rice from your hand.
“So… what do you think?”
He was silent for a moment before smiling back at you. It made your heart flutter a bit but you pushed the feeling back.
“I Like it,”
“Here have some more,” you said, offering straight from the box this time.
When you went home and went to sleep that night you had a dream about Satoru, He was human. His white hair was short and fluffy, and he still had piercing blue eyes. You were lying on the beach together on the sand, and for some reason, he was kissing all over your legs, his plump lips softly made their way up your legs, and right as his face was inches away from your groin you woke up.
You woke up covered in sweat, your pajamas sticking to your skin as you stared up in the dark abyss. Your breath heaved… and it took a while before you could go back to sleep.
After that day, Satoru became even more attached to you and complained when you weren’t by his side.
A while later the head researcher stopped by to see how things were going.
“So I hear you’ve gotten pretty close with the merman, even got him to talk,”
“Satoru, yes. He’s very interesting, he has two pairs of lungs one for the air and the other for the dissolved oxygen in the water and..” You proceeded to ramble on about what you’ve learned and his personality. “While he is a predator I haven’t been able to observe any real aggressive behavior, he’s always so sweet and curious when I’m around- oh I’m sorry I’m rambling,”
The head researcher laughed and waved his hand,” You’re all good, almost sounds like love to me.”
Your face grew hot and you laughed off what he said.”What can I say, I really love my work,”
“That’s amazing, you’ve been doing wonderful work here.” He said looking at all the data you’ve collected.
“I’m sensing a but…” You said, wringing your hands together nervously.
“I’ll get right to the point then, you don’t have any data on how or if they reproduce,”
Oh… right. You were certainly curious about it since you learned he could talk, you had been putting it off, it felt less like research and more like an invasion of his privacy.
“I’ll get on it, sir,” You nodded.
-----------------------
You headed over to the tank with papers to talk with Satoru. As usual, when you walked up, Satoru swam right over with his usual smile.
“Hello Y/N,”
“Hello Satoru,” You said with a sigh.”So I had a few questions, but they’re a bit more personal.” You blushed thinking about it, you’d start off with the normal stuff first.
“Okay,”
“So are there others out there like you? Before you came here were you in a group?”
“A few. But I was not with a pod before being here.” He answered.
“Why weren’t you with your pod?”
“I was looking. Looking for a mate.” He said, his eyes meeting yours.
“Oh, is that what you all do? Split off to find a mate?” You asked.
“No, just me. A mate is an equal, in the pod I am the best. No equal, no mate. So I went off, to find another strong as me.”
“How long have you been looking for a mate?” Pausing from what you were writing.
He paused for a moment before answering.”Twenty-Eight moon cycles,”
That was about two years! Must get lonely, all by himself, separated from his pod, you thought. Maybe you could help him escape, you could convince them that it’s better to observe the group rather than one mercreature on its own (I mean you weren’t lying.)
“So if you could, I guess you would go home huh?” you asked, already knowing the answer.
“Only if you went.” You were surprised by that answer.
“Why me?”
“It’s bad to leave mates behind,” he answered. At first, you thought he was joking but you remembered you hadn’t explained the concept yet, he was completely serious.
“Satoru, what makes you think we’re mates?” You asked, your face growing a bit hot.
“You share your nigiri with me; only mates share food, or parents and pups.”
Oh…
Oh…
OH…
No wonder he was so surprised when you offered him the Nigiri, and why he’s been so clingy.
“I didn’t know, I’m sorry,”
“You don’t want to be my mate then?” He asked with a sad expression which made you feel like you were shot through the heart.
“It’s not exactly that, I’m not a mermaid, I can’t breathe underwater,”
“Mates can be human, you’ll change after the mate bond,”
“I’ll grow a tail?” you asked bewildered.
“No, gills, scales, fins, then tail”
“I’m not nearly as physically strong as you either,” You replied.
“No, but you know many things, knowing many things like fish, many things that will be good for the pod.”
While you were intrigued by the process it just seemed like too much. At least that’s what you tried to tell yourself.
“It’s me then, you don’t like me.”
“No, no, no I do like you, I love you, Satoru, but ah-” You stopped when you caught what you said.
“...Love? What’s what?”
“It’s when others feel strongly about each other, when they really really like eachother or something. Like families or friends or a pet… or a mate…” You said swallowing nervously.
“So you love me?” He asked, his body basically pressed up against the edge of the platform.
“...yes,”
“Do you love me like family?”
“... No,” you said, shaking your head.
“Like a pet?”
“No,”
“Then do you love me like a mate?” You looked back at him and as you looked into his eyes you knew the answer.
“Yes, Satoru, I love you, I’ll be your mate.” As you said those words he had the biggest grin on his face and dived back into the water, swiftly swimming in circles and flipping out of the water. You laughed, you had never seen him this happy before.
He swam back over to where you sat and leaned over your lap, water dripping onto your legs.
“How does mating work anyways?”
“It’s easier to show than to tell, but not here, in shallow water,” He explained.
“Okay, then I guess I definitely have to break you out of here then, It wouldn’t be right to leave my mate locked up in some secret government facility.”
You waited until dark when everyone had gone aside from security here and there before you began your heist. You got one of the big carts they wheeled around all the fish they fed Satoru in and filled it with water. Then there was the painstaking process of getting him out of the tank and down the stairs. You knew you couldn't carry him when he weighed well over eight hundred pounds so you had to guide him and make sure he didn’t hurt himself as he flopped down the metal stairs.
Then you wheeled him out and into your car, however the best you could do for him was plenty of tarps and an inflatable pool to turn the back seat of your minivan into a makeshift tank of some sort, You grabbed some things from home and then drove to where you hoped no one could find you, which just so happened to be a place that looked like a mermaid grotto.
It wasn’t easy to get him from your car to the water but it was worth it to see the smile on his face.
“Y/n, dive into the water,” Satoru called; you stripped from your clothes and cannonballed into the spring. Satoru swam in circles around you; his blue fins sparkled under the moonlight.
You laughed as he made small splashes around you. He swam closer to you and wrapped his wet arms around your waist.
“Uhh Satoru…?”
“Didn’t you want to know how we mate?” Satoru said in a low voice, the seductive look in his eyes sent a chill down your spine. His cool fingers caressed your face, pushing your loose hair behind your ear.
“Yeah,” you turn to fully look at him, wrapping your arms around him.
“Great,” His lips pressed against yours, happily obliging to kiss him back. As you continued, the kiss became heated. His cold fingers slipped down your bare skin, and your back pressed against the edge of the grotto pool.
“I can't say I'll be fully gentle but I'll make sure you're fully taken care of,” he said as his nails scratched against your skin. You hissed, and he pressed soft kisses to your neck. The mating process was kinda rough, but you liked it as well.
“If you don’t mind me asking why is the scratching necessary?” you do your best to look at the marks on your skin.
“Scratching is arousing, You are turned on, are you not?” he runs his sharp nail down your arm slightly.
“Yes, but I can show you a better way,” You said, guiding his hand down to your cunt. His eyes widened a bit as he felt your folds with the pads of his fingers. As he pressed against your mound of flesh, you could feel the webbing between his fingers, between that and those nails of his, you were certain there wouldn’t be any fingering for you today.
He pressed against your clit, and you took a sharp breath. He quirked his head to the side.
“Does that feel good?” he whispered while staring up into your eyes.
You nodded and added more. His fingers began massaging your nub in small circles. You rested your head on his shoulder and let out a little moan.
“Bite me” Gojo whimpered and it took a second to process what he said. But you were already on his shoulder the least you could do was obliged him. You sink your teeth into his shoulder and with his thick skin was tough to mark into him. He lets out a pleased hiss as you effectively caused a small dent just off near his gills.
“Now it's your turn. Sorry, this may hurt a bit,” he said teasingly, her lips ghosting over your skin before he sunk his teeth into your shoulder. You winced with how deep his teeth were; you were sure that they had drawn blood.
Satoru wrapped his hands around your waist and lifted you out of the water onto the rocks. He gently parted your legs before leaning forward. He pressed soft, tender kisses to your inner thighs. His cold lips tickled and made your stomach do somersaults. His tongue took a precautionary lick to your pussy before lapping at your wet folds.
A small moan escaped your lips as his lips closed around your clit. His tongue circled, flicked, and sucked out your sensitive bud. You couldn’t control the noises that were coming out of your mouth, and your legs were enclosing around Satoru’s head. He used his strong hands to hold them open, his wet palms gripping your thighs.
Just as you were about to release all over his face, Satoru pulled away. You whined and looked up at him.
“Don’t you wanna get to the good part?” He gave you a smirk.
He slid up onto the rocks beside you and positioned himself in an off-able way. Your hand hovered in the air for a moment, and you weren’t quite sure what you were supposed to be doing. You guessed that Satoru sensed your confusion because he grabbed your hand and guided it to where a slit was ah, yes, his mermanussy. Your fingers slipped around and stroked the area for a moment before his long, smooth length slipped out of it, springing out from its sheath and bobbing in the air.
Your hand warped around his member and stroked it up and down a few times. He was slightly slimy and slim-tipped, with it being more skin color. Your finger teased his tip, and his sticky precum followed in strong lines attached to your fingers. You twisted and turned your hands as you jerked him until he was amply hard.
Now that he was rock hard, you positioned yourself to be on top of him and slowly sunk down on his cock. You moaned, and Satoru hissed.
“There's no going back now,” you said and slowly began to move your hips to meet him. He grabs your hips and moves up to suck in your skin.
“You feel so good~” Satoru tightened his grip and started to fuck up into you. You pressed yourself on his chest to be upright in order to not be a mushed mess laying on top of him. You flattened your hands on his chest as you rode him gently, your hole clenched around him as you bounced on his long cock. Wet sounds and the lewd noise of skin slapping against skin bouncing around the grotto walls, along with the wanton moans coming from your mouth.
The rocking of his hips meets yours as you hold back the urge to wiggle and squirm. Your walls flutter around his length, and you take him in a kiss. It was messy, passionate, and pretty uncoordinated, but neither did you care because you were caught up in the moment.
Satoru tilts your body back a bit as he ruts into you with a new determined force. You felt like you had little control at this unbalanced angle. He licks your breast and kisses your neck, and you let out whines and moans. Satoru let out a few whimpers as he got closer to climax, and you were definitely right along with him.
“Ahh, I’m gonna cum, come inside me!” you panted out, feeling like the air was getting harder to breathe.
You couldn't come back anymore, and you let yourself experience a sweet release. The walls of your cunt clench around him as he comes, and your juices leak around the base of his cock. Around the same time, Satoru groaned, his grip on you growing tighter and his nails digging into your hips, and hot ropes of cum spilled inside your pussy. Your warm walls milked him of every last drop, the translucent milky liquid leaking from your hole.
You slowly remove him from inside you, feeling his fluid leaking out of you with a sticky slowness.
You smile fondly as you rest against his chest. You fell asleep on his strong chest. Not much later, you woke up to a strange sensation. You had a strong urge to jump in the water like it would be more enriching than the air. You slowly and carefully slipped out of Satoru’s arms and into the water. As your head ducks under you find yourself not needing to hold your breath. You reached up and felt delicate gills on the sides of your neck.
Then scales pushed their way through your skin, and fins sprouted out along with webbing between your fingers finally, and most uncomfortably, your legs stuck themself together and overtop grew flesh and scales. Your legs and back hurt so bad like your bones were breaking and reforming. However, the pain didn’t last longer than a few moments, and when you flexed your new tail, it felt much more flexible than you imagined. It was almost like your body was a worm in a string with the way you could toggle around.
When satoru woke up he looked over at your new form with admiration. He slipped into the water to get a better view. You looked out at the surface world one last time before taking Satoru’s hand and diving into the world below.
“So, are you excited to see your pod after such a long time?”
“I’m excited for you to pop out some guppies,” Satoru smirked as you both swam off to your new life.

Mohg's Brain
(This is an essay on Mohg, Lord of Blood, from hit video game Elden Ring. It just takes a bit to get there.)
There is a story often repeated in Psychology classes, Physiology classes, pop psych media like YouTube, podcasts, and garbage daytime television on channels that used to be scientifically rigorous: about a man with an incredible brain injury. For those of you who haven't heard the story or are not yet sick of hearing it, I've included it from memory below, because I have heard it just that many times.
If you've heard this story already, you can skip to the subtitle: "Can We Even Learn Anything From Gage?"
If you already know the controversies about Phineas Gage or just want to jump to the part about the video game character, you can skip to the subtitle: "Let's FINALLY talk about Video Game"
----
"The Curious Case of Phineas Gage"
Phineas Gage was a railroad worker who would help clear land with explosives. The dubious and definitely wouldn't-have-been-OSHA-approved method of laying these explosives was to chip a hole into the mountainside, place the explosives, and then tamp it down using some sort of implement like a railroad spike. What happened next was predictable and it's surprising this didn't happen much more often--when packing the explosives, they detonated in Gage's face. Specifically, this launched the spike underneath his left eye and out of the top of his head. Less predictably, Phineas stood up afterwards. When a doctor arrived, said doctor did not believe what had occurred until Gage vomited approximately a "teacupful of brain matter" onto the street.
Due to lack of effective sterilization and antibiotics at the time, poor Phineas Gage was bedridden for several months, where he continued to lose further brain matter to infection. Eventually, he did recover, although he would continue to experience migraines and seizures for the rest of his life. While he lost his job for the railroad service, he went on to work in a sideshow attraction, carrying around the very railroad spike that went through his head. Eventually, he got a job and worked as a taxi driver and lived for several more years before dying of a seizure.
Phineas Gage was never the same after this life-altering injury: he was belligerent, drunk, lied frequently, and lost his job for the railroad company because of his new personality. And I do say NEW personality--Phineas had become like a completely different person and was, in essence, "no longer Gage" (they love quoting that). The damage to regions of the prefrontal cortex made him unable to make moral judgements, and impaired his impulse control.
OR MAYBE THAT LAST PART ISN'T TRUE.
Phineas Gage was NOT much changed by this life-altering injury. Though he lost his job at the railway company, the cause of this job loss is unknown. He MAY have had severe alterations to his personality due to this injury, but whether these changes were due to physical damage or emotional trauma--or whether personality changes ACTUALLY occurred at all--are disputed.
----
Can We Even Learn Anything From Gage?
Though I am uncertain if we have exact data on which parts of his brain he was left with when accounting for what was later lost to infection, the trajectory and angle of the injury suggests he initially lost much of his prefrontal cortex. Which of the previous versions of the story are told or over/under-emphasized is dependent on the point the teller is trying to make in the age-old debate of nature vs. nurture.
Some psychologists argue that Gage's personality change demonstrates the Global Workspace Model, where different parts of the brain are responsible for different parts of consciousness, and that by changing or removing parts of the brain, you change consciousness.
Other psychologists will argue that the LACK of change is evidence of the brain's incredible plasticity--its ability to adapt and compensate for missing parts by shifting the functions of those parts to be performed by different regions.
Most reasonably, he probably experienced some cognitive differences while still being effectively the same person and is an example of both points of view. But we don't have concrete enough evidence to say.
Any class in which a teacher or textbook needs evidence to support whatever point they're trying to make about how changes to the brain affects personality, addiction, emotional regulation, decision making, etc., they'll use Gage to make that point, no matter what stance they take. So really, Gage isn't a useful case study beyond what we could actually observe: he lost some of his brain and lived, while also experiencing migraines and seizures for the rest of his life.
With all of that said, if we assume that Gage experienced no changes to cognitive function or personality, I just typed out a story I am very sick of hearing for no reason. So let's assume that at least some of those observations were true.
----
Let's FINALLY Talk About Video Game
Her are some potentially useful images to reference if you want. Left: general brain regions and their functions. Right: paranasal sinus cavities.
Unlike a nice, straight tamping iron, Mohg's horns curl in unpredictable directions. Some assumptions must be made about length, depth, and diameter to determine what region and volume of his skull is occupied by his horn. The minimum I expect is that the horn occupies the region of his frontal lobe in any scenario. Let's also set a maximum limit: I believe it is reasonable to assume it has not reached the primary motor cortex, where it would disrupt body control and physical movement... unless one wants to suggest he is puppetting himself in his boss fight like a bloodbender. Which, let's be real, IS a really badass concept, someone should write that fanfiction.
Though I argue that Gage is a bad example to use given our lack of reliable data on his personality and lived experiences, we DO know that disrupting the function of the prefrontal cortex can affect judgment, planning, concentration, and any type of higher processing you might call a uniquely 'human' mental ability (I acknowledge the mental abilities of birds and primates but they are beyond the scope of this essay). It may be safe to assume that, in Mohg's case, these mental processes are harmed regardless of any further extrapolation I make. One other brain region of note is the motor speech (Broca) area, located on the left side directly behind the prefrontal cortex and controls muscle movements for speech.
On the topic of pain, migraines, and seizures: He has a horn in his head, it probably hurts. Obstructions (like cysts) can cause buildup of cerebrospinal fluid, which can cause pain and is a common cause of seizures. It is difficult to say how many people have benign brain tumors, but there is speculation that benign tumors in the brain are unexpectedly common. People only typically get brain scans when they've already noticed a problem, but there have been cases of perfectly healthy people having (non-cancerous) brain tumors, so a mass being present in the brain does NOT guarantee seizures will occur. This being said, that horn is significantly larger than a typical benign brain tumor. Migraines and seizures are very reasonable to assume.
I don't know what to say about illness and disease. In theory, if the horn grew at any point after birth, I would say he should have died from any pathogens that were introduced during its corkscrewing into his skull. Phineas Gage was bedridden for months due to infection, was under the care of a doctor, and he wasn't living in a sewer. Do the Lands Between understand the germ theory of disease? It may at least know that poop in the brain is bad, but I listen to Sawbones, so I know that isn't something we can just assume. It's possible he's lost some impossible-to-estimate amount of brain matter to infection. Feel free to speculate about Omen resistance to pathogens, but I don't feel that is the point of this essay. I'll say it's safe to assume his body has healed closed around it, but anything else I won't try to extrapolate.
----
Specificity from Horn Trajectory
Possibility 1:
If we estimate the continued trajectory from the visible part of the horn, it actually continues medially, towards the center of the body, and curls downward. This might even miss most of the brain and instead disrupt the frontal, ethmoidal, and maxillary sinus cavities of the skull.
It may possibly even pierce the roof of the mouth, if we roughly estimate the rate at which the horn tapers and where it likely ends. I argue that this is the most optimistic scenario in terms of his health, because although the horn almost certainly penetrates the prefrontal cortex, it may not be as deep as other possibilities.
In this horn trajectory case, he probably experiences constant sinus pressure similar to a permanent head cold, obstruction to his sense of smell, and by extension his sense of taste. Even if the horn does not completely block his nasal cavity, it may have damaged his olfactory nerve and thus disabled his sense of smell anyway. Should the horn obstruct his mouth he may experience physical difficulties eating and speaking.
Possibility 2:
A worse scenario may be to assume this horn instead extends directly backwards. This would likely pass through the motor speech area, and may have caused him to lose the ability to talk, forcing him to relearn how to speak by having another part of the brain learn to do this function (similar to how anyone learns a second language after very early childhood). It may also reach the LEFT temporal lobe, which processes hearing and smell for the RIGHT side of the body, and therefore he could be deaf in his right ear. Again, the olfactory nerve is potentially in the path of the horn, and loss of sense of smell is frequently considered a symptom of brain damage, so regardless of the angle of the horn this is a high possibility.
----
What Time of Horn Growth Could Tell Us
Children are more likely to recover well from brain damage. The older he was when the horn entered his brain, the more likely he would be to experience cognitive impairment.
Should Mohg's horn have developed that way before birth, his brain may have formed around it without issue, or obstructed regions may have simply remained underdeveloped. His skull would also have developed to more 'comfortably' accommodate this horn, rather than having to break and re-heal around a later intrusion. If the horn is shallow enough and its growth occurred during fetal development or very early childhood before the fusing of the bones in the skull, it is possible that left eye blindness and mild discomfort are the only effects. The timing of the horn's growth being before birth or in early infancy is supported by the Regal Omen Bairn, which shows Morgott with seemingly all of his horns, suggesting that omens horns are largely present upon birth and that those horns grow in proportion with them.
However, given the themes associated with the Formless Mother, here is another--vastly more speculative--hypothesis: Mohg's horn was grown deliberately into his skull by the influence of the Formless Mother, perhaps with or without his consent. I find it hard to believe that a force claimed to be the "mother of truth" which "desires a wound" would be unaware of the possible effects of this type of wound.
I posit that the Formless Mother intended to compromise Mohg's consciousness and sense of reason to make him easier to manipulate. If we assume that they were not working together (debatable), the abduction of Miquella and potential interruption and sabotage of his ascension puts an empyrean under the Formless Mother's control, and works counter to the dynasty Mohg desires. Damage to his ability to plan, make rational decisions, and his sense of morality could explain how Mohg seems to want a place for outcast and hated people, likely seeing a kinship with Miquella, but has created something that is the antithesis to the Haligtree.
Furthermore, should we assume that Mohg and Miquella met previously and Miquella had the opportunity to do so, the power Miquella purportedly has to compel adoration in others may have interacted poorly with Mohg's potentially impaired emotional processing, and could have caused an obsessive outcome that the Formless Mother did not predict.
Of course, I don't believe every awful and cruel decision someone makes is the result of brain damage, but this may explain the incongruity between what Mohg seems to want and what he has made. Whether Mohg is "the reigning lord and hierarch of the coming dynasty of Mohgwyn" or "a raving lunatic" may not be an incompatible dichotomy. It may be sequential.

Glassbirdfeather you're so wrong, why did you say ___?
I am not a doctor. I am a chemistry student with a biology lean (clinical laboratory science) and am drawing my conclusions from what I've learned in Anatomy, Physiology, and Psychology classes at an introductory level, and I glanced back at my anatomy and psychology textbooks as my sole academic sources. Please don't take this as a well-researched essay, none of the claims I make about mental or physical health are properly cited. This is just fandom theorizing; it's as academically rigorous as fanfiction. Any doctor/member of the medical profession who would like to correct me is invited to do so, I would love to hear more accurate and informed observations.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California and Nevada voters will decide in November whether to ban forced prison labor by removing language from their state constitutions rooted in the legacy of chattel slavery.
The measures aim to protect incarcerated people from being forced to work under the threat of punishment in the states, where it is not uncommon for prisoners to be paid less than $1 an hour to fight fires, clean prison cells, make license plates or do yard work at cemeteries.
Nevada incarcerates about 10,000 people. All prisoners in the state are required to work or be in vocational training for 40 hours each week, unless they have a medical exemption. Some of them make as little as 35 cents hourly.
Voters will weigh the proposals during one of the most historic elections in modern history, said Jamilia Land, an advocate with the Abolish Slavery National Network who has spent years trying to get the California measure passed.
“California, as well as Nevada, has an opportunity to end legalized, constitutional slavery within our states, in its entirety, while at the same time we have the first Black woman running for president,” she said of Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic bid as the first Black and Asian American woman to earn a major party’s nomination for the nation’s highest office.
Several other states such as Colorado, Alabama and Tennessee have in recent years done away with exceptions for slavery and involuntary servitude, though the changes were not immediate. In Colorado — the first state to get rid of an exception for slavery from its constitution in 2018 — incarcerated people alleged in a lawsuit filed in 2022 against the corrections department that they had still been forced to work.
“What it did do — it created a constitutional right for a whole class of people that didn’t previously exist,” said Kamau Allen, a co-founder of the Abolish Slavery National Network who advocated for the Colorado measure.
Nevada's proposal aims to abolish from the constitution both slavery and involuntary servitude as punishment for crime. California’s constitution was changed in the 1970s to remove an exemption for slavery, but the involuntary servitude exception remains on the books.
Wildland firefighting is among the most sought-after prison work programs in Nevada. Those eligible for the program are paid around $24 per day.
“There are a lot of people who are incarcerated that want to do meaningful work. Now are they treated fairly? No,” said Chris Peterson, legal director at the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, which supports the measure. “They’re getting paid pennies on the hour, where other people get paid dollars, to do incredibly dangerous work.”
Peterson pointed to a state law that created a modified workers’ compensation program for incarcerated people who are injured on the job. Under that program, the amount awarded is based on the person’s average monthly wage when the injury occurred.
In 2016, Darrell White, an injured prison firefighter who filed a claim under the modified program, learned he would receive a monthly disability payment of “$22.30 for a daily rate of $0.50.” By then, White already had been freed from prison, but he was left unable to work for months while he recovered from surgery to repair his fractured finger, which required physical therapy.
White sued the state prison system and Division of Forestry, saying his disability payments should have been calculated based on the state’s minimum wage of $7.25 at the time. The case went all the way up to the Nevada Supreme Court, which rejected his appeal, saying it remained an “open question” whether Nevada prisoners were constitutionally entitled to minimum wage compensation.
“It should be obvious that it is patently unfair to pay Mr. White $0.50 per day,” his lawyer, Travis Barrick, wrote in the appeal, adding that White's needs while incarcerated were minimal compared to his needs after his release, including housing and utilities, food and transportation. “It is inconceivable that he could meet these needs on $0.50 per day.”
The California state Senate rejected a previous version of the proposal in 2022 after Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom's administration cited concerns about the cost if the state had to start paying all prisoners the minimum wage.
Newsom signed a law earlier this year that would require the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to create a voluntary work program. The agency would set wages for people incarcerated in state prisons under the law. But the law would only take effect if voters approve the forced labor ban.
The law and accompanying measure will give incarcerated people more of an opportunity for rehabilitation through therapy or education instead of being forced to work, said California Assemblymember Lori Wilson, a Democrat representing Solano County who authored this year's proposal.
Wilson suffered from trauma growing up in a household with dysfunction and abuse, she said. She was able to work through her trauma by going to therapy. But her brother, who did not get the same help, instead ended up in prison, she said.
“It's just a tale of two stories of what happens when someone who has been traumatized, has anger issues and gets the rehabilitative work that they need to — what they could do with their life,” Wilson said.
Yannick Ortega, a formerly incarcerated woman who now works at an addiction recovery center in Fresno, California, was forced to work various jobs during the first half of her time serving 20 years in prison for a murder conviction, she said.
“When you are sentenced to prison, that is the punishment,” said Ortega, who later became a certified paralegal and substance abuse counselor by pursuing her education while working in prison. “You’re away from having the freedom to do anything on your own accord.”

I must inquire how both life and writing are treating you. I crave life update.
Well, I've got good news and bad news. Nothing's canceled, don't worry. It's kinda rambly, so I put it under the keep reading tab, but tl;dr is that more personal life stuff occurred that has dramatically altered the way I go about living for the time being. If you'd like to know more, go ahead.
The good news is that my schedule has recently opened up quite dramatically as of late, which theoretically means I have much more time for writing. The bad news is that the reason for this is that last week I injured my knee bad enough to where I can no longer walk on my own, and therefore no longer work. Very likely a meniscus injury, which is to say the best case scenario is that I need a few weeks of physical therapy to be able to walk again. I've got an MRI scheduled for tomorrow, so I'll know what's going on for sure following that.
On the bright side, I don't live alone, so I've been able to live a relatively comfortable existence despite that - just a lot of adjusting and having to rely on others (which is anathema to me btw bc my dumb ass brain keeps trying to convince me I'm burdening other people despite the fact I literally cannot help myself right now). This was also an injury that happened on the job, so I'm likely covered by Worker's Compensation. From what I understand, it's a pretty common injury among athletes, but an athlete I am not. I've already gone through the low points mental health-wise regarding all this, and these past few days have been spent just taking it easy and doing my best to make this entire situation something I can laugh about.
Sorry that this is just something that I'm dropping out of nowhere, but life does like to just throw shit at you like that - and I in particular can't seem to catch a break. But hey, if I'm feeling up to it here soon, I've got a lot more time on my hands to get back to work on Act 2.
#The Adjudicator has spoken.#on a completely unrelated note i'm playing through the Endwalker expansion on FFXIV rn and god motherfucking DAMN y'all#lowkey might write something for that game at some point#either that or probably something for persona 3#or perhaps persona 4 arena. i specifically bring up arena bc labrys is in that game and she's great#idk i've got a lot of things i've had passing thoughts about writing for#i've got an old crossover fic from like 2016 sitting in my drive that i never finished that calls to me like the green goblin mask#i was a teenager when i wrote that. it is definitely one of the things i've ever written#not gonna say what the fandoms are bc if i did you could narrow down what fic it actually is bc the crossover is so damn niche#it's out there somewhere. in it's unfinished primordial state#i still get emails about it. i must finish what i've started#one of these days....

Those who dare anger the Overlord of Weapons shall pay the price - Chapter 3: Behold, the consequences of one's actions!
Summary: Carmilla deals with a traitor within her ranks and the identity of the brains behind it all is uncovered, revealing someone from Carmilla's past.
Carmilla’s eyes were glued to her computer screen as her fingers frigidly ran over the keyboard. It had been about an hour since she had consoled her daughters and managed them to calm down again and since then she couldn’t do more than just deal with the administrative aftermath this whole ordeal had caused. Production setback costs, compensations for the families of the deceased workers, shifting around personnel to fall in for those that couldn’t work because of their injuries, fortifying security around her expanded territories, deciding what takeout she and her daughters would get since she was certain she wouldn’t get any sort of cooking done that evening, and more.
Every so often, she glanced over to her daughters. After everything, she didn’t want to leave her line of sight for a while, so they were resting in her office. Odette had her eyes closed, her head resting on Clara’s lap, who was just staring at the ceiling with a glazed look in her eyes. Judging by the borderline sadistic smirk that tugged at her lips every now and then, she was probably imagining all sorts of ways she would punish those that had attacked their family. The memory of her distraught daughters crying in her arms flashed in front of Carmilla’s eyes, filling her with fury once again.
She jumped slightly when her phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence that had dominated that office. Even Odette and Clara bolted upright. Carmilla picked up the phone. “Yes?” She inhaled sharply as the person on the other side relayed their message. “Good. Bring him here.” She ended the call and signaled her daughters, who immediately jumped up and rushed to her, taking a place on either side of her. They didn’t need to ask what or why. They knew when they had their role to play as the Overlord’s right and left hand. Right now, she just needed them there to be seen, as they were tainted with the consequences of the actions that were taken that day.
A heavy hand knocked the door, loud and reverberating.
“Enter!” Carmilla folded her hands on her table, her gaze fixated on the door as it opened. A large demon stood in the doorway – or partially, since they seemed to be almost as tall as the hallway they stood in. They had to bend over to get through the door, their large horns nearly scraping against the doorframe as they made their way inside. As they stood up to their full height, they easily towered over the Overlord and her daughters. They stared down at the three other people in the room for a moment. With a heavy grunt they threw something in front of Carmilla’s desk. A small multiarmed, insect-like sinner wearing a janitor’s uniform landed with a heavy thud on the floor, scrambling to push himself away from the giant beast.
Carmilla nodded at the giant. “Thank you, Sylvie. You are excused.” The giant demon face split into a big smile, made a move resembling a curtsy and lumbered her way out of the office.
Carmilla looked down at the skittering wretch in front of her, as he was wringing his 6 hands together and sweating like he had been thrown in the center of the sun. Even if the evidence didn’t stack up against him, his current behavior would have sufficed for the Overlord as proof.
She remembered having a feeling that Sleezeums would be trouble the day she had claimed is soul. He had been a charity case, during a time where Carmilla had been in a particularly benevolent mood. When she met him, he had serious money troubles and desperately needed work. He even offered his soul in exchange for it. Carmilla had taken his soul and given him a job cleaning up the factory, even to just shut up his excessive begging. Turns out he was actually quite adept at it – for an insect – and Carmilla hadn’t any complaints from or about him …until now.
“Sleezums Voorn, we know of your involvement in the raiding of our warehouses.” Odette began, her voice professionally cold and to-the-point. “Do you deny this?”
Sleezums made a series of nervous chittering sounds, his mandibles clicking rapidly as his facetted eyes darted around. His voice was raspy and shrill, and every few words his mandibles clicked rhythmically, as if he tried to collect his thoughts. “Chk-chk-chk. W-warehouses, n-n-n-no, Sleezums was not involved, daughter of Mistress.”
“Don’t lie, scumbug!” Clara yelled, slamming her fist down on the desk, nearly topping over a cup with pens, which Carmilla nonchalantly pushed back into place. Clara walked around the desk, continuing shouting down on the scampering bugperson. “The day before every warehouse was raised, you requested night shift. We’ve got you on cameras during those nights coming in and out of the security offices with plenty of time between to get the passcodes needed.”
“Chk-chk-chk - No. You are mistaken - Chk-chk-chk!” Sleezums frantically denied, chittering between words. He tried to back away as Clara was getting closer to him. “Sleezums was-“
Even if she couldn’t probably use her arms with her wounded shoulder, Carmilla had taught her daughters to use every part of their body to be a weapon. When arms fail, feet are just as effective. With a swift kick to the chest, Clara knocked the roach-like sinner on his back and promptly placed her foot on his throat. Sleezums pulled at her leg, trying to get it away from his precious thorax, to no avail. “We are done listening to your shitty little lies, Voorn.” She growled, putting a bit more pressure on his neck. “You talk, or I’ll need to find someone to clean your gunk off my boots.”
Sleezums grunted and sputtered, choking out more denial for a few moments. He eventually let out a defeated shriek. “Sleezums talk! No more! Please! Sleezums talk!” He cried out as Clara kept putting more and more pressure on his throat. He shrieked in panic, looking pleadingly at Carmilla.
Clara glanced over at Carmilla, awaiting her response. The Overlord eventually nodded. “Let him speak, Clara.” Odette instructed calmly.
Clara immediately stepped away, giving her counterpart an almost cheery smile. “As you wish, sis.”
Odette just rolled her eyes but the way her mouth curled up just a little hinted at amusement. Not that Carmilla was surprised at that. This lowlife was partly responsible for the reason her sister was wounded. For that same reason she knew that Clara, who often relied on her charms when dealing with situations like these, would have crushed the bug under her heel instead.
Sleezums bolted upright; rasping, coughing and rubbing his throat.
“Why did you betray my trust, Mr. Voorn?” Carmilla asked, finally speaking to Sleezums since he had entered her office.
Sleezums took a few raspy breaths, crawling on his knees, looking up at his Overlord. “Sleezums – chk-chk-chk – Sleezums has debts. Lots and lots of debts. Too many visits to the Gambling District. Too many losses, too little winnings. Sleezums owns the loan sharks money, so much money. More than his salary could afford.”
“Are you suggesting that your Overlord doesn’t compensate you enough?” Odette asked.
“Not enough to pay off Sleezums’ debt.” The bug shakily admitted, scampering up to his feet. “Loan sharks only let Sleezums live because Sleezums – chk-chk-chk - told them he works for the mighty Carmilla Carmine. They knew Mistress would be furious if one of her souls were harmed by them – chk-chk-chk.”
Carmilla had to admit that he wasn’t wrong. Those under her ownership benefited from her protection, even if only because their name was connected to her power.
“Seems to me you had a pretty cozy deal, then. They would leave you alone until you could work off your debt.” Clara interjected. “What changed? Regular 9-to-5 too slow for you?”
“Loan sharks were getting – chk-chk-chk - impatient.” Sleezums chittered. “Impatient enough to risk angering the Mistress. They needed money, – chk - or they’d take Sleezums’ legs.”
“Don’t they just regrow after a while?”
“They’d keep taking legs until Sleezums’ debt was paid off.” He chuckled nervously. “Not easy to clean without legs.”
“Did they set you up to this?” Odette asked, not in the mood for any sort of quips from the lowlife roach.
“No. Sleezums was approached by a man – chk-chk-chk - who overheard Sleezums’ ordeal with loan sharks. Said he worked for someone who would pay Sleezums for – chk-chk - little favors.”
“Those favors being ‘passwords to the warehouses so they can steal Angelic steel’?” Clara guessed.
Sleezums nodded, wringing his hands together. “Y-yes, Sleezums would get them from – chk-chk-chk -security office when he was cleaning and leave them at – chk – the agreed drop-off place. Sleezums would get his money in the mail the next day.”
“Do you know who paid you?” Odette asked.
“No. They would call Sleezums and always a different person talking.” The roach admitted. “Different phone numbers. Never names. Sleezums knows no names.”
“Did you know they would attack this place?” Odette asked.
“Or why they tried to kidnap me and Odette?” Clara asked, her eyes narrowing on the bug.
“Chk- chk - chk-no, no, no!” Sleezums quickly denied, frantically waving his 6 arms around. “Sleezums had no idea about either.”
“But you did give them the location and code to our family’s private entrance?” Clara asked.
“Y-yes, but Sleezums thought they wanted to steal valuables!” He admitted. “Not the Mistress’ daughters! Sleezums had no idea they would assault the factory.”
“Bullshit.” Clara exclaimed. “We have proof of you leaving the compound 30 minutes before they busted down our damn gates!”
“Sleezums got call from contact, telling him to leave while he could.” He explained. “As a ‘courtesy for favors provided’. Sleezums didn’t know they would do this. He thought they only wanted Angelic Steel to sell them on black market. Sleezums never wanted anyone to get hurt, – chk-chk - especially not daughters of mighty and kind Mistress. He only wanted money and to keep his legs.”
Carmilla instantly stood up, slamming her hands down on the table and startling everyone present in the room. “People did get hurt, Mr. Voorn. People died. My daughters got hurt. They were nearly taken from me. MY GIRLS! When you learnt they would come, you could have warned us and I would have been more inclined to show leniency. Instead, you only thought of self-preservation and now …now you must face the consequences.”
Sleezums flinched as a stream of whimpered apologies and pleadings flowed from his mandibles.
Carmilla sat back down with a heavy sigh, folding her hands on her desk. “You, Sleezums Voorn, betrayed my trust! Your actions caused harm to my subjects, myself and my daughters! You allowed people to steal my property and compromised the safety of this facility! You betrayed the Carmine family! You will be punished!”
“Please, Mistress.” The roach begged.
“SILENCE!” Carmilla bellowed, eyes flashing red so fiercely that even Clara and Odette took a few steps away from their mother. With a snap of her fingers, a soul contract appeared in her hands; Sleezums’ Soul Contract. Sleezums gasped when chained shackles of black-and-white light formed around his wrists and pulled him to his knees.
Carmilla stood up with the contract in her hand and walked around her desk, her eyes trained on the pitiful bug that was pleading for his pathetic life. “For your traitorous actions against your Overlord, there is only one fitting punishment.” She took a deep breath, her eyes cold and furious. “Sleezums Voorn ….”
“Mistress, please…”
“I hereby declare you…”
Sleezums could only let out whimpers and sobs.
“Fired!” With a swift motion, Carmilla tore the Soul Contract in two and let the remains drift away as she let go of them.
Sleezums gasped in surprise as the shackles around his wrist shattered. He grabbed the floating pieces of contract and looked at them, puzzled. “F-fired? – chk-chk -chk - Sleezums doesn’t understand?”
“What’s not to understand?” Carmilla asked as she walked back to her chair. She sat down, folding her hands together. “I have no need for traitorous vermin such as yourself in my midst. I have no desire to keep a soul I can’t trust under my ownership, so I hereby release you from your soul contract. You are no longer in my employ. You are no longer under my protection. You are no longer welcome in any of my territories. In fact, I want you out of my factory right now. Odette, if you please?”
Odette nodded and pushed a button on the intercom. “I need security here, please.”
Sleezums’ faceted eyes narrowed as the full meaning behind his punishment hit him. He threw himself on the ground, lowering his head. “Please, don’t throw away Sleezums, Mistress.” He cried. “Without Mistress protection, they will not hesitate to hurt him.”
“I think that’s the idea, scumbug.” Clara said.
The doors flew open and a couple of security personnel walked in.
“Please escort this gentleman to the gambling district and drop him there.” Carmilla instructed. “Make sure it’s known that I no longer own his soul and that there are no consequences for taking actions against him.”
“No, no, no, please, Mistress Carmine!” Sleezums begged, shrieking as the security officers grabbed him under his shoulders and started to drag him out of the office. “They will squash Sleezums! Tear him limb from limb. Please, show mercy! Mistress! MERCY! NOOOOOO!”
The doors closed behind them, muffling the desperate sounds of the wretched sinner, dying out as they got further away from the office. Carmilla sunk back into her chair, letting out a heavy breath. She opened a cabinet of her desk and took out a bottle of alcohol and a glass, pouring herself a drink.
“Uh, mom?” Clara chimed in, confusion in her expression. “Not that I’m questioning you, but, uh …?”
“Why not just kill him?” Odette asked, finishing Clara’s question.
“Yeah, that.”
“Because in the end, he was just a pawn in someone else’s game. He is not worth the effort and energy.” Carmilla explained, taking a sip of her glass. “We are after the one whose money he took. The brains of this entire operation.”
“Which we are still anywhere closer to knowing, even after dealing with Scumbug.” Clara sighed, pointing over to the bottle on her mother’s desk. “Can I have some of that? After today, I need a stiff drink.”
“Agreed, I need something strong in me as well.” Odette exclaimed.
“I’d normally tell you not to drink during working hours, but since that would make me a hypocrite…” Carmilla reached down her cabinet and took out two extra glasses. She eyed her daughters as she filled their glasses and slid them over to them. “One. Glass. Each. You hear me?”
“Yes, mom.” Clara agreed as she took the two glasses and handed one over to her sister. She clinked her glass against her sister’s.
“Mija, don’t drink it too fast. It’s quite-“ She sighed as Clara downed the glass in one go. “-strong.” She shook her head amused when Clara started coughing while Odette started laughing. She couldn’t help but smile at her daughters; hearing Odette’s laughter which sounded like chimes in the wind, while a flustered Clara tried to regain her cool composure.
Half an hour had passed since Carmilla had fired Sleezums from her service and she had returned to typing away at her computer while her daughters were relaxing. Clara was keeping herself busy with brushing Odette’s hair and making suggesting on some styles she could try to really ‘attract some girls when they’re out clubbing’, at which Odette just shrugged and repeatedly informed she liked her hair just the way it was.
The sound of two sets of familiar voices made Carmilla look up.
“Please, thine words be too kind, Mr. Rachniss.”
The doors of her office opened, with Zestial walking in with Harold in tow.
“Still, it was quite the spectacle.” Harold exclaimed. “Truly a pleasure to see the master at work.”
“I see you had your fun.” Carmilla stated, a small smile forming at the corner of her mouth. “We’ve dealt with the traitor on the inside, so that’s a problem less to deal with. Did you have any luck getting answers, Zestial?”
“Verily.” Zestial answered with a smile. “Once they finished their screaming, they were very forthcoming with answers …followed by more screaming.”
“We’ve got name, reason and location, ma’ams.” Harold added, with a frown soon forming on his face. “I believe you’re not going to like it.”
“Well, don’t leave me in suspense.” Carmilla pressed. “Who is it?”
“Someone we both know, mine dear.” Zestial scowled. “Wesson Weasyll.”
Carmilla jumped up, slamming her hands on the desk, more in surprise than in anger. “Wesson? He is still alive?” She let herself fall back in her chair. “I thought that vermin would have found his demise at the sharp end of an Extermination by now.”
“It doth seem rodents like himself doth not expire easily.” Zestial added.
Clara leaned in closer to her sister. “You have any idea who they’re talking about?”
“I have no recollection of that name.” Odette admitted. “Which is strange because I keep records of all of mother’s associates – friendly or competitors.”
“I would been impressed if thou had remembered that name, mine dears.” Zestial commented with a small smirk. “Thou were but mere infants when we hath do deal with this miscreant.”
“This was before I was an Overlord, even before Zestial had made me his Underboss.” Carmilla explained. “When I was still climbing up the ranks in Zestial’s organization.”
Clara whistled. “Wow, we’re dealing someone from the early days?”
“Who was he?” Odette inquired.
Carmilla waved around. “In short, he was the former owner of this facility.”
“He was an Overlord?”
“Hardly.” Zestial scoffed as he walked around the desk to stand behind Carmilla. “He worked for me, as mine Forge Master, what you refer to as Arms Dealers today. Thy mother worked under him while she was figuring out a harness the power of Angelic Steel. ”
“Worst time of my afterlife…” Carmilla muttered. She had no fond memories of that time nor of that man. The man had no regard for quality steel, only for profit and how fast they could make weapons to sell them. Which was, now that she realized that, why the counterfeit Blessed dagger had felt so familiar. She had spent ages handling blades and other weapons of that same low quality while she was working for him.
“Wait, if you used to work for this Wesson guy, and he is the one making those copycat blessed weapons, why are they such bad quality?” Clara asked.
Odette nodded her head in agreement. “Yes, wouldn’t he have intricate knowledge of the manufacturing process and produce better weaponry?”
“He would …” Carmilla smirked slyly. “If Zestial hadn’t been so thoroughly displeased in his services by time I entered a contract with him. Everything that had to do with Angelic Steel had to go through me and neither myself nor Zestial trusted Wesson enough to understand anything I was attempting to do.”
“It was soon quite clear to me that Carmilla was the better weaponsmith of the two.” Zestial added. “Mine admiration for her skills – both as a blacksmith and a fighter – were quite …vocal. Mayhaps too much.”
Harold gave a wry smirk. “I take it Wesson did not appreciate the competition?”
“That’s an understatement. He never liked me – some really old-fashioned beliefs about women in the workplace – but from that moment on, he actually made it his mission to make my life as hard as possible but without angering his Overlord. ” Carmilla sighed. “I had the misfortune that I was still required to listen to hm, so he decided to get back at me with bigger tasks, ever dwindling time to complete orders, impossible deadlines – which I handled better than he feared I would and just made Zestial more impressed by me.”
“So, what happened in the end?” Odette asked. “Considering you ended up with his job?”
“Quite simple and mundane, actually.” Zestial answered. “He started delivering the better-quality weaponry to mine rivals, at reduced prices or even for gratis, while leaving mine forces with hardly functional material. I couldn’t have that, so I removed him from my employ and banished him from mine territories. He broke mine trust, so I hath to show the consequences of breaking it.”
Clara and Odette glanced over at their mother, a small grin on their faces. Seemed she her leadership was more modeled after Zestial’s than she would admit.
“After Wesson was thrown out, I was given his weapon factories, his position and the responsibility of manufacturing, selling and delivering our products.” Carmilla folded her hands on the table. “I modernized everything we did here. I revolutionized the art of weapon crafting. I made this factory my home. I kept rising up in the ranks, until I rose from being an Underboss to becoming an Overlord. The rest is history.”
“To think that he survived all this time…” Zestial mused, rubbing his chin. “One would assume he’d fallen by an Angel’s bladed wrath in no time.”
“And now he’s back, no doubt to reclaim what he thinks is ‘rightfully his’, as he often stated back when he was in charge of things here.” Carmilla added. She sighed. “Do we know where he’s holding up? How fast can we go after him?”
“It’s not that simple, boss.” Harold admitted. “We do know where he is, but, eh ….”
“He hath taken refuge in an old warehouse…” Zestial began. “On the edge of the Cannibal Queen’s territory. Which means-”
“We’ll need Rosie’s approval.” Carmilla rubbed her forehead. No doubt he had chosen that place specifically because he figured that any sort of raid done by her would evoke retributions by the cannibal Overlord. Carmilla smiled. Too bad that he thought wrong. “Harold, how fast can you round up our best people and organize a strike squad?”
“Right now.”
“Go.”
Harold spun around and rushed out the room, already taking out his walkie-talkie and dishing out orders.
“Aww, too bad I can’t join.” Clara pouted.
“I’m sure Mr. Rachniss will act in your name.” Odette commented.
“Zestial, would you mind spending some time with the girls while I’m dealing with Rosie?” Carmilla asked.
“’t would be mine greatest please, my dear.” He gestured to the girls to follow him, which they promptly did. “Would thou indulge an old Sinner and show me that creation thy two hast been boasting about last time?”
Odette beamed. “Happily, we only need some test subjects to make some performance evaluations on.”
Clara snorted. “Meaning, we need some guinea pigs to see how many times we can blast ‘em before the battery burns out.”
“Ahh, I hath some perfect piglets in mind, then.” Zestial commented with a dark chuckle. “Thou’ll find them …quite cooperative. Delightful screamers, they are.”
Carmilla couldn’t help but smile as she watched the trio leave her office. It always warmed her hear to see Zestial and her daughters act so close with each other. She took a deep breath and opened up her Zuul Call program and selected Rosie’s name. She hoped the Overlord – or at least one of her assistants - would answer her. Luckily, she didn’t need to wait a long time, as she was pretty much instantly greeted by a – rather unnecessarily detailed – close-up of Rosie’s sharp grin.
“HELLO?” Rosie was sitting too close to her microphone as well …again. “CAN YOU HEAR ME, CARMILLA?”
Carmilla winced at the blown-out volume. “Too close, Rosie.” She commented with an amused shake of her head. “Sit back a little, so I can see you …and don’t blow out my eardrums.”
Rosie did as requested and the Queen of Cannibals came into view, smiling somewhat sheepishly at her little blunder. “Oh, I never could figure out these fancy –“ Her expression fell when she undoubtedly noticed the signs of wear and tear that the day had caused on Carmilla. “All my stars, look at the state of you, Carmilla! What the blazes happened?”
“Precisely why I’m calli-“
Carmilla couldn’t even finish her sentence, as a loud gasp from Rose interrupted her. “Odette and Clara! Are they okay? Are they hurt? Do I need to come over and-“
“Rosie, please.” Carmilla implored, raising her voice just enough to shock the self-proclaimed ‘Auntie Rosie’ out of her rant. “They are …fine, nothing that some time and rest can fix. We have been dealing with an …unpleasant situation all morning.”
“Uh-huh, I take it this has something to do with all that commotion in your territory this morning?” Rosie asked. “Sounded bad.”
“It was, and I feel it’s only getting worse.” Carmilla folded her hands on the table with a heavy sigh. “I’m calling because I need your help.”
With a mixture of surprise and curiosity in her hollow eyes, Rosie leaned back into her lavish armchair. “I need the full story. Lay it on me, gal.”

Personal Injury Claim: Hit-and-Run Compensation
What does a hit-and-run accident injury entail? The law requires that you stop your automobile after a collision to see if everyone is okay. Information sharing with other drivers is the goal. It's time to talk about insurance and make repairs. A "hit and run" is said to occur when this protocol is not followed.
What should you do after being involved in a hit-and-run accident? 1. Keep records of the hit-and-run incident.
When a hit-and-run motorist strikes you, you should move quickly. Document the hit-and-run vehicle's license plate. Due to how quickly an accident occurs, you might not always be able to photograph the automobile. Instead, document the accident site with pictures. Document the damage to your car, and document your wounds.
2. Find a witness and/or contact the police
Any witnesses who are willing to testify should be noted. Make certain you have their contact details. If the police are not already on the scene of the collision, you should submit a police report and save a copy of it. If the eye witness is willing to file a report, take them with you to the police station. Keep receipts for any expense related to the incident, in addition. Both medical and repair expenses are covered by these. Motor vehicle accident compensation
Your successful compensation claim against the nominal defendant may consist of:
hospital, medical, and rehabilitation costs;
compensation for any economic losses you may have had
if the damage has caused a permanent impairment, payment of any lump sum amount;
payment of a one-time sum in compensation for your suffering; and
payment of the legal fees associated with the compensation claim.
What evidence is needed for a hit-and-run?
income documentation, such as tax returns;
receipts for all medical costs incurred as a result of the hit-and-run accident;
receipts for any travel and other costs connected with seeking treatment;
documents attesting to your inability to work. Examples are sick leave applications and medical certifications;
a letter from your employer, for example, would serve as evidence of your income loss;
Records from your accountant showing that you've missed opportunities to work in case
Who are eligible to claim for a hit-and-run?
Driver
Motorcyclist
Cyclist
Passenger
Pedestrian
Everyone else hurt, excluding the negligent driver of the vehicle
Dependents of a person who had severe injuries in a car accident for which they have no responsibility.
What is covered by hit-and-run accident compensation?
Loss of earnings in the past or future
Psychological and physical harm
Cost of care and rehabilitation
Your reliance (like your spouse or children)
Why should I employ a personal injury lawyer?
Your accident injury lawyer will file a claim on your behalf if the motorist has been named. The insurance company may assert that the motorist is blameless. Things may get complicated. You'll need proof from the lawyer that the driver hit you and hurt you. The driver may be held accountable for your losses and charged with a crime.
If you are the victim of a hit-and-run accident, a personal injury attorney will also give you advice and support. In choosing the optimal course of action, this is. To obtain any possible damages, a personal injury attorney files a civil action.

How Long Does A Workers Comp Case Take | Will It Drag On For A Long Time? [312-500-4500]
Are you wondering how long a workers comp case can take? Chicago injury lawyer Scott DeSalvo shares valuable insights on the topic. Discover the factors that can impact the duration of your case, such as the need for proper diagnosis and maximum medical improvement. Learn why settling too early can be risky and how delays in the legal system can affect your timeline. A must-watch for anyone dealing with a work injury! Subscribe Now 🙏 / @desalvolaw
If you got hurt at work, you DO NOT want to be sitting at home with no money coming in and the doctor calling you and asking you who is gonna pay the doctor's bill. That's not a situation you want to be in, but if you are, it is natural to want to know a timetable for a Workers Comp case. In other words, how long is this going to take? We've all heard of cases that seem to take forever. There's really JUST ONE PRIMARY REASON why a case might take a long time.
A workers' comp case cannot be settled until the injured party has completed treatment or reached Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI), which determines the final extent of the injury. Serious, permanent injuries are valued higher in compensation compared to temporary ones, and settling before knowing the full impact can lead to insufficient funds for future medical needs.
Once MMI is reached, the lawyer can move quickly to either settle the case within 60 days or push for a trial if the insurance company is uncooperative.

Who gets protection under the New York Labor Laws?
Construction sites are dangerous as there is always a risk of a worker or a laborer getting injured, getting landed in the hospital, or even dying. It is, for this reason, there is a law that protects the right of workers on construction sites. The owners and contractors are obliged by law to adopt safety measures on the construction sites, including operational areas and the passageways. In case a firefighter or a police officer responding to a job at a construction site is injured, a person is entitled to compensation if the contractor is found to have shown discrepancy or negligence. It is always best to hire a construction accident lawyer in New York City to claim compensation amount.
What is the compensation amount that requires recovery?
Compensations are available to those injured on the construction site. Workers injured have the right to file for a claim if the injuries happened within the scope of the job. However, other individuals like pedestrians and passersby could suffer injuries as well. Whatever the case, a plaintiff in a personal injury lawsuit can secure compensation for the following:
● Medical expenditure
● Loss in income
● Damage to property
● Pain and Suffering
● Punitive Suffering
Compensation amounts give some relief from the impact of a construction accident, but injured workers should know about the options they have to take legal action. You can call Godosky & Gentile, one of the leading law firms, to file a claim for compensation if you have suffered due to an accident and are now facing severe consequences, and that too without your fault.

Injured on the Job Due to Lack of Proper PPE
What Is Personal Protective Equipment? Personal protective equipment (PPE) is any type of gear or clothing worn by a worker to protect them from hazards that could cause injuries or illnesses. This includes items such as safety goggles, hard hats, respirators, and gloves. It also includes items such as face masks and shields that have become more common in recent years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Why Is PPE Important?
PPE is important as it helps protect workers from potential exposure to hazardous materials or conditions. For example, if a worker is exposed to loud noise for an extended period of time without wearing ear protection, they can suffer permanent hearing loss. Alternatively, if a worker works with chemicals without wearing respiratory protection or protective clothing, they run the risk of inhaling toxic fumes or getting burns on their skin.
The Responsibility of Employers Regarding PPE
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires that employers protect their employees by ensuring a safe work environment free of hazards, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Employers must provide appropriate PPE to workers at no cost, as well as make sure it’s properly maintained, inspected and used in hazardous conditions.
Employers must also clearly communicate their PPE requirements to all employees, train them on the use of PPE, continuously monitor employee compliance with PPE regulations and enforce safety practices with disciplinary action when necessary.
If your employer neglects these duties and you’re injured as a result, you have rights to workers comp benefits. In fact, fault is generally not taken into consideration when making a workers compensation claim. Here are the steps you can take to protect yourself:
Document everything – Keep detailed records about your injury and take photos if possible. This can be helpful when filing a workers’ compensation claim.
Get medical attention – Seek medical attention right away so that your injuries can be documented by a healthcare professional. Tell your doctor all relevant information about your injury including when it occurred and what happened leading up to it so they can provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
Reach out to an attorney – Consider speaking with an experienced St. Louis workers’ comp attorney who can help make sure you get fair compensation for your injuries. They’ll be able to advise you on what legal options are available and guide you through each step of the process so you don't have to go through it alone.
