Day One Hundred Twelve
So, this weekend my friends and I went and ran a 5k/half marathon (I ran the 5k) on the coast, and my original plan was to head to my hometown afterwards to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. I requested the personal day weeks ago, wrote up my sub plans, was all set... But, unfortunately, my grandmother's doing poorly, so there are no family festivities this year.
Since the sub was already confirmed, and I didn't want to take away that paycheck from them, I just took the day. And, hey, my legs appreciate me not being back in dress shoes on tile floors less than 24 hours after a hard road race.
The plan I left for my students was pretty simple: the usual twenty minutes of reading followed by the start of a small research project (on one of the issues in their book). I left what I think were very clear instructions plus a finished example project. I never got any phone calls or emails, so I assume everything was okay. But I'll see for sure tomorrow!

Day One Hundred Fifty-Four
A bunch of my colleagues and I are running a half marathon this weekend, which is awesome. Also awesome: one of my friends coming up to run, too. I took the day off so I could go get him from the train station.
While I was out of my classroom, my Global Studies students did some vocab practice and an annotation assignment about unresolved issues in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict following the signing of the Oslo Accords; and my APGOV students did a last bit of review before Monday's exam. I told them they could email or video chat me if necessary, but none of them did. They're ready for it.
