Just had the harrowing realization that my green card expires during this next presidential term, again.

My provisional card ran out during his first term and the process ground to such a standstill I was walking around for 18 months after my card expired with a slip of paper from the immigration office that said I was totes allowed to be here, honest, pinky swear.

Which means I should probably start filling out paperwork now even though I’ve got a few years left on my card but if I can get naturalized instead I could potentially participate in the next voting session in two years…

Yeah. Okay. Fuck it. Let’s ball. Let’s see what we can get done.

i’ve started babysitting for a VERY christian family which is great because they pay me a lot of money but as someone who was raised almost completely agnostic it’s kind of insane. the 2 year old keeps asking me to read her stories from the bible. (why are we reading david and goliath to a 2 year old????) the 5 year old told me today that he was going to bring his legos to heaven with him. he also has repeatedly told me that the lego spaceships he builds are stronger than jesus. (not sure what to say to that. do i deny it??? are things allowed to be stronger than jesus??) had to stop myself mid sentence today because i almost told them im not going to heaven which would DEFINITELY have caused several meltdowns. they’re also both completely fascinated by my nose ring

My Danish teacher did the same. Then she got the a story about how I go to a tiny language school in the middle of nowhere Denmark, and I complain how they gave us terrible coffee machines, like no breaks, no chances to go outside during class hours, and how we all hate our teacher and that we plan to rob his house next week.

I told my students they're allowed to be creative and don't have to be factual when writing about themselves in German because I keep getting questions like "what if I don't have roommates or what if I don't have hobbies" and I'm like guys just make something up! Have fun! I won't fact check you!
