Persephone - Lady of the Underworld
In Greek mythology, the wife of Hades, ruler of the underworld, protector of the souls of the dead and goddess of sprouting grain, also known as Kora. She was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She was kidnapped by Hades while she and her companions were playing in a meadow. When she tried to pick a beautiful narcissus flower, the earth opened and Hades appeared on a golden chariot, carrying her away to his kingdom. Her attributes were poppy seeds and pomegranates.

not normal about orpheus and eurydice. you loved someone so much it opened the stones of the underworld. so much that death had to listen. so much that everything stopped for your love. so much that you turned around. so much that even when you did wrong. she forgave you.
#orpheus and eurydice#hadestown#maybe#maybe not#greek mythology#mythology#i think loving someone that much is the most human thing you can do#i think that’s what it means to be a person#not romantically#not necessarily. even a friend. a family member#orpheus#eurydice#hades#persephone#shrike speaks#taking back what i said about love making you human. it doesn’t#but i think it’s a beautiful experience.#so. much happiness is wished upon the loveless aspecs i spoke to a while back :)

Kaos on Netflix is a bit as if someone who loved Percy Jackson growing up was told they are too old to like it so they took their love for it and combined it with Succession while listening to Hadestown soundtrack and watching Romeo + Juliet by Baz Luhrmann

Modern Dracula retellings of any media tend to erase Lucy's mother, in favor of making Lucy more grown up (and thus her encounters with Dracula to be hot), more sexually forward (only to get punished for it), and an independent woman. Often claiming that this "fixes" her story.
However, Mrs Westenra is important to exist partly because it makes Lucy such a Persephone figure.
A daughter (kore/κόρη) on the cusp of adolescence and adulthood, taken forcibly away from the living to the land of the dead by the lord of Death, to marry him (white clothes in her tomb, when she was supposed to be in a bridal dress soon), to dwell in darkness for eternity under his ultimate power.
Lucy also dies/"goes to the underworld" on the Autumn Equinox, signaling winter coming and light (the meaning of Lucy's name) fading for darkness to reign.
Peresphone's abduction to the underworld, a girl taken away by death too early, mourned, was meant to be a tragedy. And so is Lucy's story.

Post-modern Olympus.
(12 more, but not the full twelve, since Persephone and Hades aren’t technically Olympians. In four more character sheets, all will be explained….) :)

I need more people to talk about the interpretation of Hades that Kaos (from Netflix) made, because you have no idea how much I love this old rag, it’s such a bash of fresh air after all the edgy bad boy evil muahaha interpretations of Hades(which most of them are also cool to be clear) to let him just be a silly old man trying to do things right, I literally love him so much, he’s adorable and made me appreciate Hades a bit more
#I also like the interpretation of Persephone a lot she’s so sweet#kaos netflix#kaos#hades#greek myths#greek mythology

Someone who doesn't know anything about greek mythology watching Kaos: yh this is probs pretty accurate
Someone who knows a fair bit about greek mythology watching Kaos: this is so inaccurate they have changed everything
Someone who had studied greek mythology watching Kaos: omg omg omg so much of this is so accurate
#like eurydice wearing snake earrings and a ring bc in the myth she stepped on a snake and thats how she died#persephone and dionysis having a nice moment together bc in some versions she is his mum#Poly short for polyphemus being one eyed and working in a place called 'the cave'#dennis (the cat) literally meaning follower of dionysus#they may have taken some liberties with the myth but my god their attention to detail was amazingly accurate#my proof is that i watched this with 3 other classicists#and they all loved it#kaos#netflix kaos#kaos netflix#greek mythology
