It all started with Sisley, a brand that's overlooked because they have overpriced skincare and makeup, but behind the counter also lies opulent old-world types of perfume. They stick to their own point of view and I love that. Of course, Eau du Campagne is beloved in #fragcomm for being a Jean-Claude Ellena perfume, but these are others that I enjoy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people come to the traditional sharpness of a chypre late in their perfume journey, but Eau du Soir always spoke to me. When perfume goes sweet on you all the time, you want something that can stay crisp, so this is what I reach for. A mix of florals on a mossy bed, it's the reason I don't need any other chypres in my collection, or other greens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eau de Sisley No. 2 is similar profile but with patchouli as the heavy, and in an eau de toilette concentration, so you can splash a bit more on in theory, but actually, it's still pretty concentrated and a little goes a long way. Also, patchouli has a way of sticking to my skin and the inside of my nose so I can smell it all the time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Soir d'Orient is a chypre with rose and incense and it's the one I'm reaching for the most now. The rose is a little sweet, and its juiciness contrasts nicely with the dry incense in the base, that's slightly woody but not smoky. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you smelled these? Two Frederic Malle numbers I've been wearing this year. I bought Portrait of a Lady because it's a rose/patchouli number with a bit of spice and I’ve always loved a good rose-patch combo. Carnal Flower is a calming white floral number that I wouldn’t have tried myself. I really thought I'd wear Portrait of a Lady everyday, but it is so intense and one spray lasts for so long (it's on my sweaters and clothes for days), that I didn't reach for it as often as I thought I would. I do think that it's a forever scent for me - I've never smelled anything that even comes close to it, and the spiciness is intoxicating. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Carnal Flower on the other hand is super chill and always settles me down. It's like walking into a cool damp garden before nightfall, and enjoying the air by yourself. Again, a forever smell for me - the more white florals I smell, the more I appreciate the subtlety of Carnal Flower. It's impossible to find a coconut note in scents that's not too fake or too sweet, and this savoury take on it is refreshing. Clean soapy musks are an easy reach for me because when I'm super busy, I like something that's going to wear more linear and not change too much. Narciso Rodriguez family portrait. I bought the black bottle for myself over a decade ago and it’s half full. I actually can’t wear it without turning into a different person so I don’t really go there anymore. Then I worked with someone who wore it and I loved it on her. And I could smell it without wearing it so that was nice. It helped that she was a gem of a person too, so this scent reminds me of her, but also of myself.
