I don't like leather and don't like gourmands, but I can get behind this leather gourmand if we want to call it that. It's Dzing! by L'Artisan Parfumeur. It picks up the benzoin where Candy left off and takes the sweets to the circus. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you first spray it, you definitely get a blast of the barnyard and cotton candy mixed together, maybe you’re at a kid's birthday party at the petting zoo. The barnyard smell is thanks to castoreum but also hay which brings a sweetness. There's a bit of a skanky musk, a waxiness, and powdery sweet benzoin. Under a spell with Gucci A Winter Melody. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even though I’m not a winter person, I can’t help but find brightness in the dark, like warmer temperatures when it’s been bitterly cold, the treats someone left next to the I love the crispness in the air, the feeling of freshness, a new start just around the corner. It all started with Sisley, a brand that's overlooked because they have overpriced skincare and makeup, but behind the counter also lies opulent old-world types of perfume. They stick to their own point of view and I love that. Of course, Eau du Campagne is beloved in #fragcomm for being a Jean-Claude Ellena perfume, but these are others that I enjoy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people come to the traditional sharpness of a chypre late in their perfume journey, but Eau du Soir always spoke to me. When perfume goes sweet on you all the time, you want something that can stay crisp, so this is what I reach for. A mix of florals on a mossy bed, it's the reason I don't need any other chypres in my collection, or other greens. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eau de Sisley No. 2 is similar profile but with patchouli as the heavy, and in an eau de toilette concentration, so you can splash a bit more on in theory, but actually, it's still pretty concentrated and a little goes a long way. Also, patchouli has a way of sticking to my skin and the inside of my nose so I can smell it all the time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Soir d'Orient is a chypre with rose and incense and it's the one I'm reaching for the most now. The rose is a little sweet, and its juiciness contrasts nicely with the dry incense in the base, that's slightly woody but not smoky. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you smelled these? Wearing Zoologist Camel today, and wishing for an excursion into a desert far far away. I'm ready for the dunes, the heat, spices, animal funk, smoke... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This perfume that has a cat pee opening that, thankfully, disappears on my skin. What I get is a zingy almost tamarind-like pulpy opening, date cake, a bit of rose that wafts in and out, orange blossom, and a gorgeous dry down of warm vanilla, almondy-tonka, dry incense. L’Heure Bleue is my favourite Guerlain unless I’m into a different one, in which case it’ll be that, but for right now it’s for sure this and it’s Perfume with a capital P. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The initial spray is a big lemony bergamot and slightly spiky aniseed, but the Iris carnation heart settles down into a warm skin scent, a dry vanilla pod, tonka, a touch of benzoin. Pre-Fall 2022 or September's most worn, because I dove into my fall scents too early, and I had to dial it back, enjoy the gorgeous weather we had, and wear my fresher scents. September is the worst. There's a lot going on, not enough rest, so sometimes it's nice to close my eyes, empty my brain, and just smell my perfume. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I love all of these, and after sampling a million other things, I love them even more! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Chanel Bois des Iles. I know it's called Bois des Iles, but it's really the Ylang Ylang that shines for me when I've been wearing it this month. The ylang ylang and sandalwood combo really reminds me of my Samsara edt. It didn't hit me until I wore Samsara the other night, and then wore Bois des Iles the next morning. I like Bois des Iles better for having that Chanel refinement, and a long sandalwood finish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Serge Lutens Datura Noir. Beach vacation via bitter almond and tuberose, this got me through some long days. I keep putting it away, and then I take it out again to have it in the rotation, and now it's just staying out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Guerlain L'Heure Bleue edp. I've decided I like it better than the edt because I can use less. I like this bottle design too... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eau de Jane... my friend @dalybeauty's perfume... I've gone through 2 samples, influenced others to get it, and now I have a bottle of my own. Look at the dent I've already made. When I wear this, I'm cool, calm, and collected. Nothing can ruffle my feathers. It's a dewy green rose-carnation-vetiver, fresh and clean. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ L'Artisan Parfumeur Coeur de Vetiver Sacre. Green tea that's also cool. It lived in my work fridge this past month. Of everything I've mentioned, this is the one that I'm going to put away for now because I think I've had enough of it. Perfume diary: most worn January and February. March is here, so this is a little late, but I finally moved some things around over the weekend. I’m always organizing and reorganizing and hoping to move things so I reach for them and give them a good wear. That being said, I never plan what I’m going to wear in advance and it’s always what the mood is at that time. Anyone else? Anyway… ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @chanel.beauty Paris-Venise. This arrived in January and I love wearing it. It's a powdery vanilla that really works for cool weather especially if you don't want anything too heavy. Honestly,I've worn it so much and I think I'm going to put it into the box and put it away for a while. This made my mornings and put me in such a good mood everyday. I love the fine mist, and the sweet lemon first thing in the morning. But it doesn't last long, and by lunch, I'd find that it was basically a skin scent. I still love it and lasting power has no bearing on how good a fragrance is. It's just the way it is. It's fine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @guerlain Samsara EDT. This is a heavy fragrance, and definitely not as worn as the Chanel because it's so dense. I love it, and I want to get other versions of Samsara to try. If you've experienced them, let me know your favourite and why in the comments. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @lartisanparfumeur Coeur de Vetiver Sacre. I love this one too, it's a bit of a tea scent, and it's better in the summer so that's when I'm going to wear it, so putting it away for a while. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @chronotope_perfume Buen Camino. Lavender and immortelle make me adore this scent. I can wear a lot of this and not get sick of it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @kayali Invite Only Amber 23. This is like a popular version of Serge Lutens Chergui, but with tobacco and a good puff of powder. Honestly, if you want a feminine sweet tobacco fragrance, try this one, it's from Sephora so easy to order and sometimes it just hits the spot. This is my little 10ml mini. Isn't she cute? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyway, I am going to put some of these away and change up this lineup a little.
