OK @taylortruther reblogging her post made me go back and watch the whole BBC Live Lounge performance and her introduction to Can't Stop Loving You is SO revealing in retrospect regarding so many of the themes we've been talking about lately in her later albums.

"The type of love that this song sings about is unconditional love. People say that term all the time and they kinda think that they know what unconditional love is, but I think true unconditional love is, like, do you love someone so much that you would even love them if they didn't love you anymore? That is unconditional love."

Um, "hoax" has entered the chat. 😳

I feel like that goes a long way to explaining why she may have believed "hoax" was romantic, and why "grey skies everyday, would you still stay" was the ultimate expression of love. "Your faithless love's the only hoax I believe in" makes a lot more sense in this context, holding onto someone who's drifting away or showing that they may not love you in the way you need or in the way you'd once been. It's kind of heartbreaking because she's so earnest and so emphatic about it, but it's actually so sad in the context of ~everything~.

(My personal opinion is that unconditional love isn't loving someone even if they leave you; it's loving someone for who they are, including their challenges, and not seeing it as a transaction but an action. ANYWAY. Semantics I guess. I find the way she explains it really devastating tbh.)

Honestly shocked it took this long for Yuki to get publically annoyed at the Red Bull of it all in the press (snaps in the headline is a little misleading) I think with Daniel he had a “well if it’s this guy it’s inevitable” mindset but now that it’s Liam or even Franco and his name isn’t in question he’s doneeeeeee

This might be a controversial opinion but I don’t really feel bad for him. He’s just kind of coasting through his time in the team on Honda’s good graces and sure he has talent (regardless of the route they take if they’re in f1 they do have talent) but if he continues to believe that he might have a shot at the Redbull seat when it’s been pretty clear that’s never really been in the cards, then that’s kind of on him.

Didn’t he even admit that he wasn’t really sure what contract he signed earlier this summer? (I could totally be misremembering) His management (and Honda) told him to sign a contract and he did because it was another year of security. But in the long run it could potentially hurt his career. This has been his best season to date and in saying that it really hasn’t been anything electrifying. He had a solid start when the car was decent and the rest of the midfield hadn’t figured it out and since then he’s been just kind of okay. He should’ve taken that good start and probably gone somewhere he could start fresh and build from but instead he took the seemingly safe option but in doing so really kind of doomed himself to another year of the same story with the same result.

Maybe he’ll be able to leverage “the untapped potential” narrative into something new for 26. He’s got a big sponsor willing to do business and would be a good get for a team that needs money and a serviceable driver but in that article he kind of still seems like he expects that Honda and Redbull will take care of him so I guess I hope that works out for him.
