"Oh." his intrigue is piqued. A coy smile playing on his lips as if the statement had flipped a switch in his brain. "You need me to? Doesn't seem like you need it that much." Calloused fingers found themselves trailing the smaller mans jaw, tipping his head upwards by his chin to meet Setts gaze.

The life had left his eyes so quickly. One moment he had been picking out the most appetising potato from their shrinking food stash, and then his shrieking was being choked by the blood seeping out from his opened throat. Talon stared unblinking at the weapon in their grubby grip for so long. Black blood that dripped from its dull metal had dried, now. Their heart was beating so quickly still.

Kavyn was weak. He wouldn't have lasted, would have pulled them down with him.

When they finally break through their trance, Talon lands beside the body and searches through his ragged clothes to find the matching blade and their sheathes, and then anything of value he could possibly have held. There wasn't much, unsurprisingly. The matches, frayed string, and some rocks made smooth from being rubbed on cobble. During their search, something dark scurries about in the corner of their vision. Talon is quick to snap attention to it, their new weapon at the ready, and they meet the gaze of a large rat. It had begun lapping at the dead boy's pooling blood. With a wide swipe and warning growl, the other child gets it scampering out of the firelight. But it was too late now; there'd be a swarm soon with so much fresh meat available. And the rodents would be quick to find the remaining food in their crate, too. Talon would have to find an entirely new hideout, learn new routes and places to hide. Their heartbeat was quickening again. They turn and look at the open ledge, falling down into the sewer system far below.

After a combination of dragging and rolling the body, there's a final grunt of effort put behind the shove that sends the body careening into the darkness below, and Talon sits back in a slump with limbs trembling. It takes a much longer time for there to be a wet splattering sound than they expected. They had hardly caught their breath before the sounds of chewing and nibbling began. The squeaking, wet smackings of little tongues and gums, tearing at warm skin. Dirt-covered features scrunch in disgust at the growing noises, and hands rise to cover their ears and unkept hair as the sounds got louder, and worse. But it was no use. Grabbing their new belongings and quickly stomping at the fire until it was embers, Talon makes for the pipe exit, shimmying through it to escape the feasting rats. Ravenous little maws bring even more mouths that realise what had been found. What had been given to them.

While Talon crawled through that pipe, all that was on their mind was how they could have used Kavyn's boots; his were bigger than the ones Talon currently had.

Unusual as it was to be met so casually compared to every encounter beforehand, it was a welcome one. Perhaps this one had met others like her, before. Finding one of the outcropping rocks that made up the shoreline the man sat upon, Nami rests a scaled hand on its wet surface after silently gliding over to it. Of all the land dwellers she had spoken to, this one spoke the most eloquent. His words hook her attention with her eyes trained on him, the rare light in the night catching in those crimson depths. "I find that a little hard to believe. You can swim and dive under the surface, but I have never heard of anyone reaching beyond the air. It may not be far, but I would wager landwalkers have travelled further into the depths than any Marai has on dry land. You at least seem to know a thing or two about the sea, anyway."

Following the gesture, Nami turns to spot the outcrop. In all her lacking knowledge of how far landwalkers, let alone young ones, could swim, she settles on agreeing that his morbid statement was the most likely outcome. She likened the situation to the daring act from her own childhood, of swimming as far down the entrance to the Abyss as one dared while the Wardens were not looking. A foolish act of youthful adventure.
