In all the long years of his life, Elrond had never once resented his mother. He had grieved for her. He had raged at everyone who took her away from him. But he had never resented her. How could he, when his first memory was of her, illuminated by moonlight, singing an ancient Doriathrin lullaby? When his last memory of her was of her tearful but fierce eyes, looking at him like he was the hope of the world. Even in his darkest moments, Elrond never doubted his mother’s love for him.

Earendil was a different story. Earendil had left. To save the world, yes, but that hadn’t mattered to a six year old boy who had just wanted his father. Elrond could never truly forget the despair of those days. It had been simpler when Earendil was the Star of High Hope. Easier to name his daughter and foster son after him, to wear his sigil with pride.

Now though, in a house on the shores of Tol Eressea, Earendil isn't a legend. He’s just a man, with Elros's eyes and Elros's hands and Elros's smile. A man who left his sons… to save the world for them. "I tried to save the Shire, and it has been saved, but not for me. It must often be so, Sam, when things are in danger: someone has to give them up, lose them, so that others may keep them."

The sun is setting below the glistening sea. Celebrian and his mother are engaged in a game of chess. Gil-galad and the twins are plotting some new mischief. There is a letter from Maglor on the table, waiting to be read.

Earendil is watching him with so much love and pride that he feels his heart break a little more. Enough is enough, he thinks. It is time to heal.

Elrond goes to him and says, “Teach me how to sail.”

The smile his father gives in return is brighter than the stars.

Something relatively mainstream? Couldn’t be me!

Elrond (TROP version) agere headcanons:

- It’s not something elves really do, so Elros is the only person who knew for a very long time. Or at least the only person who understood, and they’re fathers (kidnap fam <3) knew to an extent, but they did not understand it as Elros did.

- It’s always involuntary, he would not do this if he had the option too, but it happens so he deals with it.

- generally negative triggers (ie. stress, worry, sadness, etc). He does a lot of work, more than he can handle sometimes, and when things get too overwhelming, his own control takes a back seat and something else takes over.

- it’s happened around other elves before, of course, he’s been in Lindon for a number of years, including when he was still young and has not yet understood what it meant to but peredhel.

- No one really thought much of it, so he mostly got away with it, apart from with Galadriel, who had been fascinated after finding Elrond regressed after being scolded by the High King.

- Elrond had done his best to explain what it was, and after that he’d occasionally seek her out when small. She’s a good CG, patient and kind but still strict. Elrond enjoys spending time with her, big or small.

Peredhel Problems is the placeholder title for a kidnap fam fic, about Maglor and Maedhros being confronted with the peculiarities of half-elven children (and two rather traumatized ones at that). I only have a vague outline of this fic and a few sentences, but it's one I hope to finish within the next couple of months.

A Gil-Galad Russingonion ficlet set during the Long Peace. A winter time family get-together for Turuhalmë, basically. In which Maedhros' brothers get to be the fun uncles, Fingolfin gets to do be a grandfather again* and Maedhros feels a bit melancholic and wishes his own parents were here as well.

*(I'm always a bit sad when I think about Fingolfin losing not just Turgon and Aredhel, but also Idril and him not even knowing of Maeglin's existence, but at least he is able to spend time with little Ereinion here.)

KHR!xTolkien AU coz why not

The other day in @cywscross Discord, a certain someone (@tiredfictiongate ) had said: I want Tsuna as a Tolkien elf

Alouette (me), being one of the few Tolkien nuts (tho am certainly not an expert) active in Cross’ Discord be like: Challenge Accepted.

So lo! I have a few versions of Sawada Tsunayoshi being a Tolkien Elf!

1) Nana is a Tolkien elf isekai’d to KHR! World. 

- Name could be anything, but it’s certainly not Nana (Sindarin: mom). Iemitsu probably heard her name very wrongly or has incompetency issues with his ears, who even knows. But her only record of her existing is possibly from the wedding certificate with Iemitsu.

Addendum: Reborn thought that Tsuna was very impolite in calling his mother with her name, but both Tsuna and Nana (who just uses that name as a nickname at this point, probably) just told him point blank that Nana means mom in her native language.

Addendum 2: 

Reborn: Where’s your mom from?

Tsuna: oh, she came from (insert elven city name like Ost-in-Edhil)

Reborn, who has basically traveled the world due to his hitman occupation: where the fucketh is that.

Addendum 3: If Mammon is around, then they will recognize the name. They’re a fantasy nerd. Note that it’s really not the same as Verde who’s a science nerd.

Addendum 4: Tsuna and Reborn travelling: Reborn probably couldn’t sit on Tsuna’s shoulder or head due to Tsuna’s smol size. Hey, bebey walking side by side!

- Tsuna is a Peredhel (half-elven). Everyone possibly would accept Tsuna as he is, bullying notwithstanding. The teachers from elementary school up to high school would think that he got genetic disorder due to how slow he grows. Possibly would have a mother-name, but who even knows with his mom’s lineage. I’m under the impression that father-name/mother-name thing is of the Noldor culture, since I never read the Laws and Custom of the Eldar due to the book not existing physically in my nearby book store. Got to search online when I got the time/money...

Addendum: He’s now Hibari’s emotional support animal, er, child sorry. Congratulations(?)

Addendum 2: Fon (Hibari’s probably relative tho unknown from which side of fam) is aware of Tsuna due to his proximity to Hibari, possibly know enough that Tsuna is a possible heir to the bloody Vongola throne, but not much about Nana to know that he’s a half-elf. To be fair, Fon really didn’t focus on fantasy realm like Mammon does; he’s a martial artist, know more than 100 styles and more than half is possibly so obscure - what does he need of fantasies in the first place? Or well, there’s not even a possibility of an elf from another world isekai’ing to his world??

Addendum 3: What are the chances his enemies (read: Mukuro, Xanxus, etc) thinking like: Oh God I’m going to possess/kill/etc a child? M: I’m no better than the Famiglia I’m from!/X: A BEBEY AS MY RIVAL? U KIDDING? etc- Oh man the possibility of sheer chaos his (seemingly apparent) age will bring to his enemies. 

- He’d be an actual minor when he’s a mafia boss. Upon 50 years old (of which a Tolkien elf majority; D&D is 100 years old - and him being half-elven, prolly less than 50 but more than 18/21 tbh), he’d be the youngest looking aside from possibly Chrome; his other Guardian possibly would look like they’re old enough to be his parent(s).

Addendum: 

Nana, seeing Iemitsu telling Tsuna that this or that girl is pretty: Nana: Tsu-kun, I expect you to marry after you're 500 years old. You're too young to marry now.

Someone who hears what Nana said: ???????

Addendum 2: 

Rando A: omfg Decimo is surely a demigod

Rando A: he doesn’t age and it’s been 50 years since he stepped up as Decimo

- Bonus: Skull and/or Bermuda are also elves. Skull being Maglor and Bermuda is somehow twice-cursed being his appearance and the Arcobaleno they both got. Tho who Bermuda is, it’s basically anyone’s guess. Imagine if the elves found each other, then it’s basically that one spiderman meme.

Addendum: No one would believe Skull can sing. Especially not as “the best singer of their people”. Look at how he whines and everything.

Addendum 2: So imagine if the Man in Iron Hat knowing this fact and just gives an “impossible mission” to find the “one with voice that can cleave gold”. Skull of course knows that the jerk is referring to him (to those who don't know, his mother name Makalaurë means "Gold-Cleaver", as a nod to his voice). But him being a showman/stuntman, would just act ignorant as usual. There comes a time of which the team comes near him when singing tho..

Lal: !!! I heard a voice in this area!

Reborn: I also heard it-

Addendum 3: If Nana knows Skull is Maglor be like.

Nana: I swear he's a performer at heart. Do you know he's known as the best singer of all Noldor?

Nana: He just got a slight change of occupation from what I see so far

2) Tsuna get reincarnated to a random elf. Probably the shortest points I get in this realm of Tsuna-possibilities.

- Kinda depends if he still have his HI or Dying Will Flames comes with him

- Nevertheless, he’s most probably getting out of the way of fighting; he likes living thankyouverymuch. Maybe takes up cooking or farming or smth as a craft. But if his friends are out there fighting, he’ll probably be famous as the only elf to punch orcs instead of. You know, use elven knifes or arrows and whatnot. Medieval elven things. But apparently not. Many people think he got high af pain tolerance or some sort of super power, but it’s really nothing like that. He just knows weak points of some armors ok.

- Somehow goes up the ranks coz his HI tells him what to do to make a sad situation into his advantage (every single time) and very famous for his HIEE’s.

- Very possibly to be thought of as a pyromaniac (somehow his fists always seems to be on fire? Is it some sort of enchanted gauntlet ala Istari?), enough that some other elves wonder if he’s related to the Soul of Fire also known as Fëanor AKA that one elf that makes Silmarils as the title of that one book.

3) Tsuna get reincarnated as a descendant of Finwe, most probably Gil-Galad, Son of effing Plothole. 

- I think we can all agree that no matter who his dad is (coz his paternal line always changes according to Tolkien), it’s still a better dad than Iemitsu.

- Elrond and Círdan are very definite Guardians. Tho what Flames the two have is up to debate. Possible Guardian candidates: Celebrimbor, Galadriel, whoever the heck is in his court.

- Possibly in deep despair that he can’t escape the demon known as paperwork even in his second life.

- Got forcibly trained with shield, helmet, and spear (AKA Aeglos) out of deep fear from the other elves that: oh Eru, our prospective/possible/new High King is suicidal enuff to try hand-to-hand combat with the Enemy?? No no, better use a spear. And a shield. And a helmet. Surely with range and defense like that he won’t die. Right? Right??

Note: If he got his HI, then he probably won’t die, spear or no spear.

- Thank Eru that black and white is somewhat clearly defined rather than the mess called Mafia in his past life?? Mafia clearly messed up his moral compass

- Tho still, he thinks he got some bone against the Valar: do they really need to sit on their dais for literal centuries before actually think to help the people who aren’t in Valinor? Really? Is it laziness or what? You got the biggest, meannest, baddest of the Valar (or not; however you call Morgoth, really) in this side of Middle Earth (of which you just let him go from your prison in the first place) and y’all just rest your butts in “paradise” without even thinking to help us? Is it spite to Fëanor or something? How effing petty of you all: there’s more of Elves in Middle Earth aside from Fëanor and his lot??

When it comes to Peredhel do you mean Elrond/Elros specifically or all half-elven (Dior+his kids, Earendil+his kids, Elros/Elrond+their kids)?

Then by Peredhel + family do you mean Elrond/Elros/ Maglor/Maedhros?

And finally: world building. Are you looking for any world building to still be in 'Tolkien Middle Earth times' or stuff like modern society time being fine too?

For Peredhil I take the very broadest definition of Luthien (+Daeron) down, + Earendil too! Any & all of them interest me (my eldritch half-elven blorbos <3)

By their family I (mostly) mean spouses and parents (especially parents who aren't Peredhil themselves, or they'd be included above), or found family, so yes the Kidnap Fam does apply! Basically I put that in there to mean "Peredhil and people close to them", to give more options. I'm not super picky about my characters lol

On worldbuilding- I do tend to prefer Middle Earth times, but if you have ideas for modern society, go nuts! I just haven't thought much about it myself, so I don't have any solid headcanons.

It is their first battle as commanders. The twins stand at the head of an army hungry for revenge. Names are shouted as war cries by people united through loss. For Fingolfin. For Thingol. For Lúthien and Finrod and Turgon and Denethor. For Beren and Haleth and Bór and Húrin.

For Gondolin and Nargothrond and Doriath. For Dorthonion and Brethil and Hithlum.

For Sirion.

Elros lifts Dramborleg and says, for Eärendil. Elrond draws Aranrúth and replies, for Elwing.

1: sexuality headcanon

Bisexual vers who has the reverse bisexual syndrome I do: he's attracted to like every man that walks the earth and then exactly one unattainable woman who was nice to him once ten years ago. (Celebrian)

Celrond <3 (closely currently followed by Brimbrond (Celebrimbor x Elrond) -- but that's on a VERY close tier with QPR!Gilrond and Celrondir)

Tie between Elrond & Erestor and Elrond & Celeborn right now, but this question always fluctuates for me. I've really been in a second age Elrond mood thanks to Rings of Power lately and have been thinking a LOT about what it must have been like to have been him at that period in his life when he was so utterly immersed in a purely Elvish and presumably overwhelmingly Noldorin court. Did anybody understand his sense of temperature? His need for sleep? His sense of time? His ability to get ill? Did he accept those things about himself and stand up for himself to get his needs met or did he try and keep up with everyone else (hint: in my head it's the latter). How lonely must his existence at Gil's court truly have been in the early half of the second age? Anyway -- I headcannon Erestor as Peredhel, and headcannon that Elrond met him sometime around this time and that it was somewhat of a revelation for him to discover that a) there are other people like him and b) that maybe some of the things that make him 'faulty' or 'eccentric' by Elvish standards are really just human (or maia) traits and actually are just fine & he shouldn't be suppressing them.

And then there's Celeborn, who I headcannon has a strong vested interest in helping Elrond come to terms with his Sindarin heritage, which largely goes ignored (but that Elrond seems to overwhelmingly align himself with in the books). If we're going with a kidnap fam timeline, then Elrond was probably raised to be ragingly culturally Noldorin, and then Gil's court as previously stated is super Noldorin as well and I headcannon that most people there tend to think of him in terms of "Earendillion" -- thus again, stamping him "Noldorin". I think a lot about the fact that he probably had a Sindarin/Doriathrim accent/subdialect prior to the Sack of Sirion, and probably developed either a Feanorian accent or at the very least a strong Noldorin accent by the time he would have met Celeborn. He's got a mixed heritage and possibly doesn't know very much about the Sindarin half early on in his life, and so I think Celeborn really took him under his wing at that point and had a vested interest in helping him learn about Doriath, and Elwing, and Melian & Luthien and Sindarin cultural in general.

4: notp

I'm extremely fond of Elrond in all sorts of relationships and various constellations and polycules because he has so much love to give! But in terms of relationships I think I actively avoid/dislike, it's Gilrond in any dynamic which is romantic (because I headcannon Gil as ragingly aro), and tbh just...most Gilrond portrayals, because most often the power disparity is either romanticised or sexualised and I that's just...a personal squick for me. Ignored is less squicky but I still just don't really like reading their dynamic unless the author has taken some form of effort to reconcile the power disparity. Gil's the high king & Elrond is his herald. Gil could literally ruin his life and there are clear issues of consent in a dynamic like that. It's extremely easy for that to turn into something super unhealthy or dangerous so fucking fast and it always makes me a bit squeamish about the ship. There are ways around it and ways to resolve it in a healthy way, but that does take a lot of work and forethought. Most Gilrond fics tend to gloss over the potential issues of consent and just sexualize the power disparity and that's so gross to me sorryyyy.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

He deals with really bad sleep paralysis because he's subject to a weird combo of elf-sleep (walking the paths of memory) and true-sleep (actual dream-states), on top of the curse gift of foresight which results in some wack ass visions.

6: favorite line from this character

Books it's a tie between: "Elrond laughed" and “Such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere.” and "“Elrond’s house was perfect, whether you liked food or sleep or story-telling or singing (or reading), or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness. … Evil things did not come into the secret valley of Rivendell." (none of these are strictly lines and this last one is not strictly from the character but shhhhh)

In the films: "You should have stayed dead" (From PJ's hobbit. That scene is so self-indulgent for me asdlkghjkl)

In Rings of Power: "I swore an oath to Durin. To some, that may now hold little weight. But in my esteem, it is by such things our very souls are bound." (meanwhile me screaming at the screen NO OATHS!! NO OATHS!! YOU DUMB BITCH!!!! but this line still hits me so hard)

7: one way in which I relate to this character

@the-commonplace-book pointed out the other day that a lot of my headcannons surrounding Elrond's differences due to his peredhel heritage and how he (and others) responds to it and struggles to accept his own limits are a rather good metaphor for chronic illness and disability and I haven't been the same since & feel very Seen (derogatory).

Gil-galad and Cirdan arrive in time to save the twins

They don't arrive in time to help Elwing but Gil-galad knows about the cave (he discovered it with Earendil) and finds the twins.

Cirdan sends a message via Osse to let Earendil & Elwing know that the twins are safe on Balar.

Earendil silently accepts Elwing's Silmaril and watches as she summons the power of Melian's line, transforms into a swan, and flies back east.

Elrond and Elros are still six years old when they reunite with their mother.

Seven years later, their father returns with an army.

Elwing is a menacing swan in Rivendell

The Valar look the other way on a lot of stuff and they're particularly fond of Melian's line, so when a lone swan is spotted flying from Elwing's tower in the direction of Middle Earth, well, they have more important things to do than chase after her- it.

While flying, the swan spots a lonely Noldo wandering on the beach and harasses him for a few days before taking off again.

In Rivendell, people will sometimes see Elrond and the swan sitting together quietly watching Gil-estel.

The swan likes to bully Thranduil whenever he visits. He just pats it on the head.

Elrond, Celebrian, Galadriel, Celeborn, Glorfindel, Thranduil and the kids when they grow up know who the swan is.

I've always been so curious about Arwen and Aragorn's kids and how those genes manifested with them. Because on the one hand Tolkien ends the story with them, more or less, (in the sense of that whole line)...but the genetics obviously don't stop there.
