She filmed a lengthy two minute commerical for the movie and similar one minute commercials were packaged with 'The Lucy Show'. February 24 was the natal day of William M. Ruthrauff (1881-1969), inventor of Pepsodent. At least, he’s the inventor according to this excellent article at the Made in Chicago Museum. The article also tells us that he was paid handsomely for his formula, and basically told to kiss off, which is probably why his wikipedia entry describes him only as a football coach, and his FindaGrave page…

Marketing rule # 25: Never associate a product that goes in your customer’s mouth with cleaning supplies. Detergent means that powder or pod you put in the dishwasher. Detergent means that big bottle you use for your laundry. Things you cannot eat, things you need poison control for if you accidentally ingest them.

Although to be fair, there may be something in the “oral detergent” that’s banned by the FDA now.
