"Just a small respite" Ep 4 Season 3
The episode opens with a hot summer midday Saturday. "Peppino Pizza" is full of people clients, Gustavo is at the counter gathering the orders and Peppino is in the kitchen working his ass off to make all the pizzas and bring them to the tables. We see how our main protagonist is visibly stressed, walking quickly out of the kitchen, giving the orders to the clients, re-entering the kitchen to put the remaining ingredients on the dough he left, put it in the oven, take out the other one he was cooking and then repeating all that over and over. Gustavo and Brick (the latter trying to sleep on a pillow in a corner of the kitchen, today it's not delivery day anyway) sometimes look with concern at their busy partner, getting more and more stressed for each new order he gets. At one point Peppino even trips down and almost drops a pizza on the ground.
Then, finally, it's 2:30 PM. The pizzeria is closed until 5:30 PM. Gustavo flips the sign on the door then he turns around to see Peppino busy cleaning the floor from the dirt the clients left. Gus decides to do something about his friend's health and talks with Peppino. He tells him that he shouldn't overdo and that he should have a small respite, but Peppino refuses, his eyes too focused on his task at hand than actually looking at Gus. Gustavo breaks Pep's attention by taking away his broom and pushing him to the door, telling him that he's not allowed to be inside his pizzeria/home until its closing time (8 PM) and that he will use this time to relax. Peppino refuses multiple times, who will make the pizzas for his clients? What if something goes wrong while he's absent?! But Gustavo reassures him that everything will be fine and that Brick take his place behind the counter (he puts on a small chef hat and gives a thumbs up to Pep like the good boy he is). After all, it's not the end of the world if you take a pause, right? Peppino now is outside, the door slams close behind him.
"... Now what?", was the first thought our bald Italian man made when he realises that he has no idea what to do in his free time. So he decided to walk to the city, hoping that maybe he could do something there. He goes to a luna park and tries the roller coaster, but it only got him a very heavy nausea. He goes to a pub, but quickly it becomes lousy as the people are watching an exciting football match. He goes to a cinema, but the movie he chose to see was pretty bad. Finally he tried to go to the beach and have a swim, but the sea creatures were pretty rough today. (While we see this montage we see a small cat following Pep with curiosity)
We cut back to "Peppino Pizza", it's 5:30 PM. Some people enter and order, Brick and Gustavo get to work, with Gus doing actually a great job at replacing Pep. Everything is going pretty smoothly... Until a privileged and rich couple of celeries decide to enter the pizzeria with a slam. They're really rude, ordering normally but then complain for the dumbest reasons (like the olives aren't positioned correctly, the tomato sauce isn't on the crust, there are no specific glasses they wanted to drink beer with, etc). And Gustavo is obligated to smile to hide his frustrations, those two pretentious clients are really testing his positivity and kindness. (In this section there's a recurring joke where the couple use continuously the adjective "celery-stic", with Gustavo replying, each time with more frustration, that this word doesn't exist)
Back to Peppino. We're still in the beach and our titular Italian man is sitting on the sand trying to remove the sea urchins from the soles of his feet. Pep groans and complain, he was supposed to be relaxed and instead he came out more stressed than before! What was he doing wrong?! Right when he was making that question the small cat that was following him gets closer, purring, rubbing their body on his legs and finally jumping on Pep's belly to rest. Peppino is too tired to handle this fur ball and just sighed. He looks at the cat, in a way he was feeling pretty envious. Lucky little guy, they don't have any responsibility whatsoever. They rest whenever they want. They're just happy as they are with the smallest things.
Maybe that's just what all he needed now. A moment of silence. No extreme things, no noise. Just... being here in the moment. Peppino closes his eyes and breathes slowly in... And out... He feels the grains of sand brushing his hands and legs. The sound of the seagulls chanting in the sky, the sea crashing his waves to the cliffs, his breathing becoming slower and relaxed. And the smell of the sea... He forgot how good it was. It reminded him of his sweet childhood days. Peppino reopens his eyes and looks at the cat, they were smelling his face with curiosity. Pep makes a smile (a genuine one this time) and plays with his little new friend. For the first time in a long while he feels really happy.
We cut back to Gustavo, it's 7 PM, the couple are laughing loudly, disturbing the other people in the pizzeria and making them go away, Gustavo and Brick are clearly annoyed and frustrated with this. Finally the celeries finish their dinner, but they're heading to the exit instead of going to the counter to pay up. Gustavo makes them notice that and the couple answer that they weren't satisfied with the meal. In fact, they wouldn't even give a cent as a tip to a mediocre restaurant. At this point Gustavo lost it. Brick remains behind the counter looking with fear as the midget, with his skin red with rage, gets closer to those excuses of civilized people. "Hey, the world is unfair and you have to get used to it!" says one of the celeries, "Y'know, you're not being very 'celery-stic' now", but before they could finish that sentence Gustavo grabs the couple by the necks with his bare hands.
Before we could know what happens next we cut to Peppino heading back to "Peppino Pizza" with the cat in his arms and commenting that it was a good idea to take a break. The sun is starting to set, but before Pep could reach the handle of the door the pretentious couple head out of the pizzeria, with their faces full of bruises and cracked teeth, walking away, laughing and saying nonsense delirious for the pain. Peppino look at those two weirdos with a confused face, for then noticing Gustavo busy cleaning the floor from the mess the clients left in a angry manner. Peppino asks what happened and Gustavo just replies that he had a really stressful day, with his eyes too focused on the task at hand (like Peppino did at the beginning of the episode). Both remain silent for a moment. Pep puts a hand on Gus's shoulder and asks if he wanted to talk about it. Gustavo looks at his partner, softening his look a little. He nods his head without saying anything.
Peppino and Gustavo sit down in one of the tables, calm music plays in the background. We see the two Italians talking but we don't hear their voices, but through their body language we can understand that they're talking about the crazy day they had, Gus even notices the little friend Pep made at the beach. The camera zooms out as our protagonists keep talking happily while Brick sleeps under the table. Everything slowly fades to black and the episode ends.
(The episode, even though it had some funny moments, wasn't well received when it first aired because of its calm tone instead of its usual fast pacing ones and the lack of other characters in the show like The Noise. But even with that there were fans who did like this episode, some even reported that it helped improve their mental health)

Angelica figured as much. He's been pretty much silent ever since that harrowing battle... While stronger than the rest, mostly due to his family heritage, he's still a mortal at the end of the day.
"Recovery is often the hardest part..."
Right. Phiona. She must be so worried. Angie had gotten so caught up in keeping Peppino safe from harm, she failed to keep in contact with her mistress. How selfish of her.
"Right. We shouldn't keep her waiting...."
Words were... exchanged in anger. They both cared for one another greatly, so it's only natural they would be distraught at the idea of the other in danger. Emotions were very fickle things. One of the reason why Angelica herself tries to repress hers, as unhealthy as that is. Still, these two couldn't be more alike, despite their drastic differences.
"You know where she lives, yes? Or would you like me to make a portal there?"

Noise the Wildcard
[Peppino is driving the van with Gustavo, Brick the rat, Pepperman, Mr. Stick, and the Noise on board. Mr. Stick is concerned because the rest of the van had just dumped the barrels out of the van] Mr. Stick: Shouldn't we have gotten these barrels out of the van before we got in? Pepperman: They're really heavy, money man. We've already had to do it, like, a million times! Mr. Stick: Where did you get the money for the gas? Peppino: Mr. Stick, will you shut up and let-a me continue?! Mio dio! [He turns to Gustavo] Now, Gustavo, when we get-a back to the tower, you and Brick waterboard the shit out of Pizzahead and-a get a confession! Gustavo: No problem. Peppino, Turning to Pepperman: Now, Pepperman, you take-a that confession to the Vigilante, use-a your charm and good looks, and get-a that reward money. Pepperman: Done and done! Peppino, Turning to Mr. Stick: Okay, Mr. Stick, you continue to be-a useless. Mr. Stick: ... Peppino: [sigh] The Noise and I will use that-a reward money to pay off my pizzeria's debt. Then we'll probably buy some more-a gasoline, because I feel that's a great plan. [Peppino proceeds to hit the brakes...only to find that they aren't working for some reason.] Peppino: Wait a second... Gustavo: Peppino, the gas pedal. Mr. Stick: You gotta jam it- Peppino: No, I'm saying- No, the BRAKES! [While Peppino continues to struggle with the brakes, the Noise just sits there with the most shit-eating grin on his face ever] Peppino: Guys, why aren't the brakes-a working?! Noise: BECAUSE I CUT THE BRAKES! WILDCARD, BITCHES! YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAWWWWWW!!! [With that, the Noise leaps out of the van and takes off on his skateboard, leaving everyone else in the van] Mr. Stick: WHAT?! Pepperman: HOLY SHIT! Mr. Stick: OH GOD! Pepperman: OH MY GOD! Peppino: I CAN'T STOP THIS-A VAN! Mr. Stick: SERIOUSLY?! Peppino: ABORT!! ABORT!! [Everyone gets the fuck out of the van, leaving it to drive off on its own and crash]

Confessions in the Dark
Summary: The Noise and Noisette have had enough of you and Peppino constantly dancing around the fact you both like each other. It's so obvious and you both are idiots.
They have an idea though, they'll invite you both to the get together they're having. Everyone will be there and maybe that'll be the push you guys need.
If not, there's option B. Or C.
Contents: The trope of "these two idiots like each other but won't ask each other out", Mutual denying of crushes, Feelings get crushed due to this, Swearing, Noise being rude, Semi angst to fluff, JFC can you both get together already?!, Somewhat suggestive but nothing nsft.
The Noise lets out a groan, "Look at those dumbasses." he gestures across the room at the counter. You had been here for half an hour now, the food you ordered being eaten long ago. Instead you were currently sitting at the counter carrying a conversation with Peppino.
"It's so obvious they're into each other." Noisette agreed, shoving the remaining bit of crust into her mouth. "Arghe gohna ebr conbess"?
"Babe, chew with your mouth closed".
The pair continued observing your interactions. It was pathetic, to be completely honest. If they got here before you did, they'd both notice Peppino glancing at the door, unusually attentive, if it was on a day you'd stop by. You'd alway come in on Wednesdays and Fridays. Any other time Peppino would barely look up from his work to see who entered.
Noisette took a sip of her soda, finally finishing with her food.
"Are they ever gonna confess"?
It was telling enough that you would stop by and simply linger this long. It definitely wasn't because of, in Noise's opinion, the sub par pizza. Some days you'd just order a damn drink and sit at the counter, engrossed in what ever conversations you had with the man.
"Pft. Y/N probably still has that letter, or threw it out. And him," Noise points over at Peppino, "Won't ever make a move on Y/N. They're both fucking idiots. What they need is someone to confess for them".
Huh.
That was an idea. Noise sat up, it was time to go. "Come on babe, I have an idea that they'll thank me for". Noise slid out of the booth with Noisette excitedly following after him.
* * * Wednesday 6:34 p.m.
"We can always just go with option C then." The Noise shrugs.
"What if they just freeze to death instead?" Noisette asks. "And how are we going to lock them in the freezer there"?
"That's option B," he snaps. "Option C is where we'll just walk up to the counter when Y/N is there and just confess for them".
"Shouldn't we try the less drastic options first"?
Noise ignored her, obviously if this plan didn't work, locking the two of you in a freezer where you'd have to hold each other to stay warm was not that drastic.
"So why was option D a thing?" Noisette asks, writing in her notepad, "That will definitely kill them".
He drags a hand down his face with a groan. "No shit. Option D is for 'Die' because if...No! We're not discussing that option. Not unless our other plans fail".
Noisette scribbles something else down before pursing her lips in thought. "So for option B do we need rope or handcuffs? Also I thi-"
"Let's just focus on this plan."
* * *Wednesday 7:15 p.m.
You had finished texting Noisette and set your phone to the side, a small grin forming on your face. Maybe leaving the house would be a good thing. This get together was on Saturday, which was perfect since you didn't have to work.
What could go wrong, honestly? You pause before knocking on the wooden table you were seated at, remembering the old superstition. Just in case. A sheet of paper drifts away, you grab it before it floats to the floor. The smile on your face disappears as you aimlessly scan the words you had written.
You make a face and cringe. How did you even manage to write some of this?
You'd write confession after confession. Hands shaking and your face usually staying a shade of red during the entirety of you writing.
After finishing another letter, you'd slip it into an envelope and seal it.
Then, predictably, you'd come back and shove it into your dresser. With the other dozen or so you failed to give to Peppino. This was just another failed letter for the failure you call your romantic life. You don't even have a romantic life, you remind yourself.
Granted, you felt like you were being dramatic about the entire situation. Why was it so damn hard to write and give him a "I really like you" or "would you like to go out?" letter? You were more terrified of telling Peppino in person, so instead you opted to write your feelings out. Unfortunately you still were struggling.
Numerous times you wrote everything down you liked about him; how he made you laugh, how you enjoyed the times you hung out, how handsome he wa- You faceplant into the table to stop thinking about it, face heating up.
It sounded like an easy solution, just give him the letter. The real reason you were struggling was because you were afraid of him rejecting you. You sit with your face buried in your arms, as your thoughts turn dark. Why can't I do things like normal people? Normal people can just confess and be done with it.
In your case, you just know getting rejected would fill you with shame. Peppino liked you but you doubt he'd want date you. He liked you as a friend. You feel a sharp twinge in your chest.
If you had any obvious signs he liked you more than that, you'd feel more confident but it's not like that'll happen. Too bad there wasn't a big glowing sign that would give you the answer.
You didn't want to pretend you didn't like Peppino -in fact you kind of hated pretending and denying it- but when he rejects you? How would you have to act afterwards? Like nothing happened? More than likely you'd probably stop going to the pizzeria, it'd be too awkward otherwise. And it'd also hurt if you did visit. And it'd also be awkward.
You shake your head, not wanting to dwell on it anymore. At least for this get together you'd get to see him. Maybe you'd get a chance to confess then.
*** Friday 2:12 p.m.
Noise clears his throat, again, attempting to get Peppino to acknowledge him. Peppino ignores the smaller man as he adds cheese to a pizza, never even looking in Noise's direction. Instead he continues talking with you, asking if you'd like to watch a movie next week. You smile and say yes, eyes lighting up as Peppino explains it's an italian classic. He watches Noise still in his peripheral. Maybe if he's lucky he'll get bored and go away.
Noise rolls his eyes, with a "tch" before propping his elbows up, resting his head in his hands. He cracks a smirk.
"Hey buddy, can you take my order instead of oogling your lover all day"?
You snap straight up.
Peppino whips around, eyes wide.
"Excuse me but what the fuck?" you blurt out a bit too quickly. The food you had taken a bite of goes down the wrong way, sending you into a coughing fit.
"Merda! Look-a what you did!" Peppino snaps, "Y/N are you ok?"
You wave your hand, " 'm fine" you gasp, grabbing a napkin as another coughing fit starts. Your shudder as you cough again, downing a sip of your drink. Noise shrugs as Peppino glares at him. After another moment you let out a shuddering breath. "I'm fine, thanks".
Just as Peppino's about to yell at him Noisette pops up beside you.
"Heya Y/N! Sorry Peppino I'm borrowing this!" You're cut off as Noisette grabs your arm and yanks you from your chair. Peppino watches as you grimace, sending him a "what can you do" shrug, as you let her pull you into a booth.
For a time he'd watch you sit, happily chatting with Noisette. He watches as you look confused for a moment before you start shaking your head, as if saying no. As you continue chatting he watches as you suddenly lean closer to Noisette, a smile spreading across her face.
The Noise hops up into the chair you had been sitting at. Now replaced by this menace. Peppino grumbles as he adds on the remaining toppings. "What do you want"?
"We're having a get together Saturday. Show up." He replies curtly. "And three orders of garlic knots".
"Why-a would I"?
"Because Y/N is going".
"And"?
Noise leans in "I know you like them. This is your chance to tell Y/N. Or should I tell Y/N for you?" He begins to move off the seat "Actually, I'll just do it now..."
"No!" he yells, catching Noisette's and your attention. You both stare, waiting for a fight to break out. After a pause you determined an intervention wasn't needed, instead you return to your conversation with Noisette.
Noise remains standing, shooting Peppino an annoyed look. "Saturday. 7 p.m. At the lakefront".
Shortly after Noise and Noisette leave, you come back up to the counter. You thank Peppino for the pizza and tell him to have a good rest of the day. Peppino heaves a deep sigh as the door closes behind you.
*** Friday 11:38 p.m.
Peppino lays in bed staring up into the darkness, replaying that moment from earlier.
It had been months now, when the realization hit him. He adored you. Your smile, your looks, how nice you were, how you brightened his day. He hadn't noticed how much he looked forward to your visits at first, but they had become the highlight of his day.
At some point he had memorized what you ordered. This lead to him always preparing a fresh pizza with your favorite toppings, ready for you when you'd come in. Gustavo had teased Peppino on a few occasions regarding his attentiveness to you, which would fluster him immensely.
That changed when the realization dawned on him. He'd have the occasional daydream (that was more often than he'd admit), but he tried to wave them off.
Sometimes Peppino had thought about asking you to hang out, either to see a movie or a even a simple outing. He thought of buying flowers for those days and giving them to you, watching as your eyes light up from the gesture. He'd imagine how the day would play out and how it might go. And by the end of the night he'd take your hands and ask you to be his.
He'd imagine how nice it must be, to be your boyfriend.
That memory from earlier resurfaced again. Your reaction when the Noise called you lovers. For a split second he felt his heart flutter. Your reaction and look of disgust promptly crushed those feelings.
It was purely delusional to think you'd ever be interested in him. Peppino wasn't exactly what you could call "boyfriend material".
On the surface, he could just look in the mirror and point out a laundry list of flaws. The top ones being; Middle aged. While not a flaw in itself, this paired with his other issues only amplified them. Fat. He wasn't really sure when or how but he had developed a gut. Balding. The hair he used to have and took for granted all but thinned and gone.
Then if you were to dig deeper you would find; PTSD. Anxiety ridden. Short temper. And also sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night from night terrors. Mentally, Peppino felt broken. Even if you could tolerate him for a bit, you would get worn down eventually. Hell, even he was worn down by it. You didn't deserve to be burdened as well.
You would never be interested in someone like him.
The best option was to simply treat you as any other customer. Peppino shut his eyes, nodding to himself. He couldn't keep holding on to a foolish daydream. What he needed to do was distance himself, then could move on and not have that sinking feeling like earlier with your comment. He'd have to come up with an excuse to cancel those plans next week too.
It would be difficult for a bit but he knew he had to be realistic. The first steps were always the hardest.

*** Saturday 2:19 p.m.
"Sure".
You stare at Peppino, confused. Usually he'd be much more talkative. He barely even glanced up from the dough he had been kneading.
"Are you going to meet up with everyone later"?
"I'ma busy tonight. Saturday's are one of our busier days"
"Ah." You're lost on what else to say, unable to keep from feeling disappointment. While this was true, you thought Gustavo was going to take over for the last few hours tonight. Maybe he doesn't want to be around the Noise? Which is fair enough, but there would be others there too, and not just him.
You shift in your seat awkwardly. Some days Peppino had been busy and couldn't talk, but it wasn't an uncomfortable silence like today. You wonder if something's bothering him.
You pull out your phone to text Noisette. After pressing send you tell Peppino to have a good day as you move to leave. He nods, giving a short "You too." As he pulls a pizza from of the oven.
***Saturday 5:04 p.m.
At an instant the Noise had lunged at Peppino, grabbing the front of his shirt. "Listen here fatass, you better not bail out tonight or you're gonna play hide and seek with a fucking pipebomb." the Noise threatens, glaring up at  Peppino.
He rolls his eyes in reply, wiping the flour onto his pants. "I already-a said I'ma going. Quit asking".
The Noise eyes him for a moment before letting go.
"You better close up soon then." he threatens, composing himself before heading out the door. Peppino sighs. He really wasn't in the mood. All he wanted to do was to just close, clean, and go home. He didn't feel like being around you especially, it already hurt to blow you off while he was working. Although with the others there, Peppino could use that as a means to avoid you.
He steps into the backroom where Gustavo was restocking the shelves.
"Gustavo help-a me close so we can go get ready".
"Ready for what?"
Peppino stares confused at him. "The 'get together' tonight? The one the Noise and his girlfriend came in and invited us to yesterday"?
Gustavo shrugs. "First I've heard of it. Why don't you just go now? I can keep the restaurant open so we don't have to close early." he added.
Well that's weird. Why didn't they invite Gustavo? "Are you sure"?
"Yep. Go have fun. Brick and I will clean up too."
Peppino paused on his way out, turning around "Don't forget-"
"We'll make sure Bruno stays out of the trash. And the shrimp".
"Grazie".
Gustavo waits until he hears Peppino's footsteps grow fainter. As he hears the door shut Gustavo takes his phone out of his pocket and searches through his contacts. Finding "Noisette" he begins tapping out a message;
"Peppino just left. Good luck" and presses send.
Mio dios if this didn't work, Gustavo was on board with Option B. He'd even supply a blanket.
*** Saturday 7:04 p.m.
You fidget idly with the napkin in your lap. As of right now, no one else had shown up so it was just you, Noise, and Noisette. You desperately pray that it's not just going to be you and the psychotic duo tonight.
"Where is-a everyone?" the familiar voice makes you jump. You turn and see Peppino standing off to the side.
The Noise shrugs "No one else showed".
You stare at Peppino as he slides into the booth beside you. He wasn't in his work clothes or even the casual ones when you hung out. You stare, admiring how nice he looked in the button up shirt.
Your eyes widen slightly, realizing he had been staring back at you. You smile softly at him and he responds with one of his own.
"Yay! Double date!" Noisette claps her hands, you both recoil.
"We're not-a dating!" Peppino snaps, sliding a few inches away from you.
"Don't be ridiculous!" You had a sinking feeling this was going to happen all night.
Noise's expression changes as he glowers at you both. "Ok I'm fucking over this!" Noise snarls. "Go make out, get a room, and go do...what ever you freaks are into. I'll even give you the handcu-"
He was caught short as you splashed your water into his face, Noise yelping in surprise.
All eyes were on you. What could go wrong tonight? A lot. You feel the blood rush to your face, you sink into the booth feeling Peppino's gaze on you. He was offended no doubt.
Noisette cleared her throat, drawing Peppino and your's attention to him. She had a notepad open and began reading out of it.
"Y/N, you told me yesterday that you thought Peppino was cute but "don't ever repeat that".
Cute? Peppino had been called many things throughout the years. Cute was not one of them.
"And I know you have...how many confession letters? Like a dozen? You wrote but never gave to him." She continues, pointing to Peppino.
You sat there, too shocked to argue. You opened your mouth but no sound came out aside from a pitiful whine. You forgot she knew about the confession dresser.
Noisette directed her attention to Peppino now. "I found this..." In a quick motion, she sets a crumpled piece of paper onto the table and pushes it in front of you. It had your name written down, you recognized the handwriting immediately as Peppino's. Under your name was smaller writing:
Y/N
Mia Cara
Will you be mine?
"Also you admitted last week, with Gustavo as a witness, that you would like to ask Y/N out but you think "They'd have no interest in someone like you".
You gasp you turned fully to stare at him, "Why would you thi-"
"Well guess what?! It's your lucky day! You both want to be together! Yay! Go make out like Noisy said"!
You both remained silent.
"Yeah we're done here." Noise interjects, the scowl never leaving his face. "If you both needed your big ass glowing sign...there you go"!
Noise grumbles, tossing the soaked napkins down before pushing out from his seat. Noisette moves out of the booth to follow suit, she turns back around one last time, smiling and sending you a thumbs up, before catching up to Noise.
"Well..." You trail off. "Uh...would you mind taking me home? Noisette was kinda my ride".
"Si..."
* * * Saturday 7:53 p.m.
Peppino had walked you up to your home, watching as you unlock the door. Neither of you said anything to the other the entire way home.
Now you both stared at each other for what felt like hours. You were home, you could go in now. Instead your feet remained rooted in place, until you said something just above a whisper.
"I don't want to pretend anymore."  Your eyes flick to the ground for a moment before sucking in a breath. "I really like you." you say, "And I do think your cute, handsome even, and I love when we hang out. So maybe we-"
You were cut off as he kissed you. Everything had melted away except the warm caress of his lips against yours. His scent was familiar but at the same time new. Enticing.
Peppino drew back with a shaky breath, face flushed. Your eyes meet his as if searching for something. The next moment you grabbed the front of his shirt, pulling him back in for another kiss. You tug him through the door into your home. Peppino wraps an arm around your waist holding you securely against him. With his free hand he cups your face, thumb gently stroking your cheek.
You clasp a hand against the back of his neck, pressing your other hand against his chest. In response he deepens the kiss, tangling his hand into your hair. You find yourself pinned between Peppino and the wall. The kiss had started slowly as if to savor this moment, then you feel his tongue gently graze your lips. This kiss was everything you both had wanted to say. "I want you. Will you be mine? I need you in my life" it was intoxicating. Every touch against each other compensating for all the times you didn't just reach out.
You lean into him, feeling your heart racing and his as well. Both your hands clasped against his neck for support as your legs grew weak. His hands trail down your sides before firmly holding your hips.
He pulls you away from the wall, carefully moving you both back towards the couch. You feel yourself lean back into the cushions as  Peppino pulls away. The only sound was your shallow breaths and the feeling the heat radiating from each other. You feel him gently pressing his weight on you, his gaze softening as he came back down, lips once again meeting yours with his hands finding yours as you weave your fingers together.
Now that you knew what you'd been missing, you had a lot of catching up to do.
Sorry this took so long to post lol. I lost progress on this twice when my draft didn't save. 💀

Sorry if you're having a time™️ when you get home, Wario, because there's already a very. Specific knock on your door. Specific by I mean it sounds like the 1-1 theme. Does he do that on purpose or is it just in his blood.
"Hiya, Wario! It'sa Mario." Oh great. More Mario, "I hope-a you're alright after the big bout, but uh. Someone told Mario to bring him to you, so--"
Wario. Mr. Demambo. How's that imagery of Ronnie awkwardly standing behind Mario for you when you open your front door. Oh, and Son holding Duct & Tape under his arms looming behind the two red-clad guys too, but. No, that's Ronnie. That's Ronnie. Alive. Awkwardly looking away and rubbing his arm. Behind Mario. Who is clearly completely oblivious to Ronnie's apparent 'fate' judging by that casual look in his blue eyes. Ronnie did sort of look like a guy who worked for WarioWare or whatever it was called, so Mario didn't really think twice.
After picking up the rest of Gold's team, the pair awkwardly made their way home. Try as he might, the kid still managed to stir up trouble while he was away. Part of him feels a little guilty for considering a child leash, but... What else is a guy to do with a kid who doesn't know how to sit still? Then again, Gold may find a way to chew through it like Lulu, so... argh.
He just lost one child. Why did he have to be at risk of losing another? At least Gold couldn't die again, but... It sounded like this Hypno guy could do some damage if they weren't careful.
Once he finished texting Gustavo — in all capital letters, short and sweet. He knows that guy's blind as a bat — he continued to clear out the notifications of his neglected phone. Wario grumbled to himself as he could hear Shokora humming in the distance. Let me tell her, He told Gold when they arrived home, You shouldn't have to go through that.
Tumblr media
... Good Grambi, Shokora. What could he possibly say? Your daughter got blended, came back sometime after, then disappeared with her fate unknown? Princess Shokora, spending who knows how long as a cat, watching everything of her life mutate into something so foreign. And when she finally found some semblance of happiness with them... Gah. Even if he made begrudging peace with the fact Cotton Candy may never come home... The image of Shokora's mournful visage was enough to reopen regret-filled wounds. He's sorry, Princess.
Not to mention Omino, whom he hadn't seen since they were kidnapped from Peppino's Pizza. It was only a brief glimpse, but the carnage he saw made him want to throw up. He would not wish that fate on anyone, not even Bowser.
His thoughts continued to spiral. None of them were given a chance to clear their heads, were they? Which is why, for once, Wario was glad to hear Mario's knocking on his door... He was the reason Wario picked himself back up, after all. Call it a hopeful break from the torment nexus...
Or what it would have been if all color didn't leave his face upon opening the door.
Tumblr media
❝ — Aaaaaaaieeeeeeeeeeeeeee? ❞ My goodness, he's too shocked to even scream. His eyes keep cycling from Mario, Ronnie, Son, Duct, and Tape. Is this happening! Does Mario even know? He probably doesn't if he's still smiling at Wario, waiting for him to say something. Wario blinked a few times, rubbed his eyes, then stared momentarily. ❝ R–Ronnie? ❞ Saying that name didn't make it any more believable. Mario was still waiting. Wario coughed.
Tumblr media
❝ I-a mean, uh. Thhhhank you, Mario – ❞ But our Princess is in another castle. ❝ Wario will, uh. Take it from here. ❞ He locked eyes with Ronnie for another moment before... Gesturing for the rest of them to come in! Where is Peppino. Are the others going to believe him. Is he dreaming. What. ❝ Let's-a hang out when times aren't... like this, yeah? Erhm. ❞ Despite how uncomfortable this reunion has started, he's relieved Ronnie is OK. ❝ Wario will, ah. Give you a call. ❞

You should totally make an askblog for the Cheeseshop AU at some point! Not like, right now of course, since starting another Askblog right now would probably just stress you out and we don't wanna do that cus your mental health always comes first, but it could be a fun little thing you could do in the future after you're done with the main story on Pep's blog, or just at a time where you think you could do it without getting stressed.
In the meantime though, I'm just gonna go ahead and- "Hugs Cheeseshop Peppino cus he's freaking adorable"
Oh, trust me, I have considered it, and been very tempted to do so!!!
I just have not bc I am still working on a story for it, and I would feel even more guilt for not working on Pep's blog (even tho I shouldn't bc askblogs should be fun and not an obligation, but the mind is weird), and irl things etc
Also, I do not have an end story for Pep's blog right now, so that could potentially go on indefinitely if I wanted, and I am always sorta stressed, so there would probably never be a 'good' time to make another blog
Still, it is something I would like to do, but probably not right at this moment - although, do not be surprised if my impulse takes over and there is a new blog by the end of the day lkfdldgfjl;k (silly)
I suppose in the meantime, folks can ask questions to them/about them here - but that might also just tempt me more, so idk

💬 " tell me about the peppino you know? "
meme
Tumblr media
To be honest, she shouldn't be surprised answering this. She just didn't expect Sacch to ask. Of course, she didn't mind answering! Besides, it's one of her favorite people in the world!
A soft fond smile was now on her face as she crossed her arms and closed her eyes in thought. Tapping her foot repeatedly. Sorry she can't control it when shes talking about THE peppino spaghetti afterall! (Well at least hers)
Tumblr media
"Peppy-roni... Hes.. He's a good man. I look up to him a lot. He's smart, he's brave, hardworking, and he's strong as all hell. He's like a brother to me and means the world to me, and I hope he knows that. He.. got his arm messed up by something.. He never told me exactly what happened, but i know it was from that tower, At least he wasn't the only one that got badly hurt."
He's a good, hardworking man. He told me he got the pizzeria as a dream job of his. His mom was a bigggg inspiration for his cooking, and it shows! I can taste the love in everything he makes! I still don't know much about him or his family or background, I never did, but I owe so much to him."
Tumblr media
Her tone changed a bit. As she opened her eye and put a hand on her cheek. Should she say this? Eh, it will get it off her chest a bit or at least she thought!
"I don't know where I would be without him.He saved my life, in my opinion. If he never hired me, I would probably be dead. Gone. 6 feet underground. He.. doesn't know that, but he did."
Im thankful for everything he does. Im thankful how hardworking he is, how he doesn't give up, how he's always trying to keep my chin up even when hes not doing good, and how he taught me how kind people can be.
Sure, he has some issues, like the anger, never opening up, being hard on himself, and not asking for help. The thoughts i heard gustavo told me, and many other things, but he's like family. A brother. Someone i want to protect with my whole life."
Tumblr media
But she took a deep breath, knowing she probably spoke too much, but it was too late to take it back now! She smiled softly as she tried to lighten the mood
"Anddd by default, you are someone who I respect highly too! I don't care if you are another version of him. You are family to me."

Ok, I read up on some things... It seems the creator of that au solely wants to use it for an aesthetic and is using ablest terms and ideals to make the au work. "he's not mentally ill, he just got hit in the head and has symptoms of mental illnesses and is basically insane." what... please just research better? You can't say he's not meant to represent mental illnesses or not meant to HAVE any but still have him have symptoms. (And also making up a disorder... doesn't help either. "Pizza Tower Stress Disorder." I don't even know where that started...) if anything, you DENYING he's mentally ill or even unhealthy makes this worse... "he's not actually in an asylum, he's never been to the hospital." what... then why is it called asylum tower... also if he got hit in the head and is acting like this, he probably should go to a doctor?? "gus is protecting him from the bad doctors." that is... that feels like an excuse you pulled out your ass and it also implies no doctors are good doctors - it drives in this phobia that everyone will always be against you and no one is here to help the mentally ill. which isn't... true. like yeah it sucks a lot of ppl aren't (ESPECIALLY IN... THINGS LIKE ASYLUMS...) but that's just. no...
"the straight jacket isn't real / he thrifted it and is using it for an aesthetic" shouldn't have to explain why that's weird.
"I don't mean for this au to be sad, just comedic and soft." then you're going about it entirely wrong. being in denial that there's something wrong with the way you're portraying Peppino is what is pissing me off. and I would just wish you'd educate yourself better rather than shrugging it off and acting like it's purely you getting hate. I don't want anyone to be harassed. But this is not an "agree to disagree, just look away~" situation because 1. every artist is banding together to spam that this au is fine (it is not) so it's fucking everywhere on my timeline. I almost can't NOT see it. And 2. you're not learning anything. you're going "I understand, but I don't care." and surely you understand that's frustrating to witness.

Dough Bod! (A Weight Loss Episode.)
Peppino's been having a lot of trouble getting around, delivering, and running around, making him exhausted as he collapses onto the floor face-flat for comedic effect.
Noise comes in, telling him about his gelatinous body. Peppino puts his foot down, deciding to get exercise. He tells Noise to watch over the pizzeria as he leaves. B plot starts as Noise has to deal with a crowd of noisy and angry customers.
Meanwhile, Peppino goes to a nearby Gym, confused about where to start. A new character, very buff, comes up to Peppino, pointing out his body. Peppino tells him about how he needs to exercise, and the new character helps him, going on a montage with Peppino where they exercise, progressively getting better as at the end, you see Peppino with abs and big muscles. Peppino thanks the new guy, jogging his way back to the restaurant.
Peppino finds Noise at the counter, trying his best to do what Peppino asked. Peppino takes over, lifting him up and throwing him into a chair as he begins to show off-ish make all the pizzas, throwing them into boxes and using them as frisbees, throwing them to people and tables. The crowd dissipates as they are left alone in the pizzeria.
Noise mentions something about his body, as Peppino thanks him, taking a slice of leftover pizza and trying it. It was really good, so he says he shouldn't let it go to waste, eating the rest very quickly. As Noise watched in confusion and surprise as Peppino began to eat more pizza, going back to his doughy body once again.
Peppino seems dissapointed, as Noise comforted him, saying how he liked him just the way he is. As the episode fades to black, a customer clears his throat, revealing a crowd of people with missing pizzas. Peppino looks at Noise and Noise looks back, as they both gulp. Episode fades to black.

Raise Your Voise!
Hey is tumblr still gonna do the thing where it doesn't allow me to post fics onto here just as text instead of redirecting to another site? That would suuuck! Anyways! Did a writing for a origin story of Voise (yes the spelling changed but there is an explanation.) My partner helped me with coming up like how to really explain The Voise.
Voise, creating them was like basically I just wanted a fankid for two characters I like, and while they do serve that purpose basically, there's more to it. As will be revealed, they are Noisette's clone with DNA from Noise as well. Onwards!
------------
It couldn't have been that long since the fall of the tower. Enough that everyone seemed to settle into their lives, or that someone still cared to check on the ruins, all the rubble and stone that had nothing left in it, all the magical portals just fading, no one to comment on the stench of cheese through the dirt. But maybe that was enough to wake up something that was buried beneath, a hand reaching out from inside the pile, before in a flash, a figure rushed out and disappeared, into the wide open desert, the closest civilization to the tower.
It was a seemingly uneventful couple days following that, things were continuing as normal. Noisette was wiping down the counter of her cafe after her most loyal customers (Peppino and Vigilante) had their morning coffee. Same old, same old. But she knew better than to really think of her circle of people having a routine, something was always bound to happen, she had to keep on her toes. Just as well, as her ears shot up as she could hear the rushing of feet towards the door.
"Gasp!" She spoke out loud as she saw that it was Mr Spaghetti himself. She giggled. "Back for more, Peppino? You have a job, silly! Unless… you're going to take my offer to try out some of my recipe ideas!"
"What? No-a! I… Wait. Noise isn't a-here?"
"Nope!"
"And you haven't moved from your spot?"
"I'm working!"
"…" He squinted. He wasn't about to trust a word from any of the couple, which conflicted with the fact that Noisette especially was a very upfront person.
"Did something break down and you thought you could blame Noisy?"
"No, no! I swore I saw-a something! I saw someone like you - or him - one of you, digging-a through my trash!"
"You sure it wasn't Fakey?"
"You do realize how vastly different he looks from you, right?"
"Hm. True, you got me there, but none of us would do that. If I wanted to do dumpster diving, I'd simply go in my own."
Sighing, Peppino dropped his shoulders. "Fine. I guess it just had to be something else. I'll ask Gustavo about it."
As he turned to leave, opening the door in front of him, Noisette's eyebrows raised as she saw clinging to the Italian's back was a short individual who looked extremely similar to her and her boyfriend. They wore a quirky brown costume, mask and all, with a bow on the top of the head. The strange look-alike turned their gaze towards her, giving a shushing motion. In return, she gestured that she was zipping her lips before waving to the completely oblivious Peppino.
Swiftly, they lept off of him and were out of her sights. She turned her head around for a bit, before resting her hands under her chin. "You don't have to hide from me. I know you're still around here, somewhere. Heh, I sounded so cool just now." She snorted. Hearing a shuffle, she faced the sound and just saw the stranger on one of the stools, staring at her.
"Did you eat Peppino's trash?" She asked, as they nodded in response. "That's awful, you shouldn't have to eat a bunch of garbage. Here, let me get you something." Noisette slid on her roller blades as she rushed to her cafe. She didn't even take a full minute before she returned to them, giving them a plate of hazelnut cream and tuna sandwich. "Don't worry, it's on the house. I'm happy to help anyone who just seems lost. Between you and me, I'm not hurting for money, my boyfriend's kinda loaded."
After getting the confirmation this was not going to cost money, the newcomer went straight away to devouring it. Noisette seemed to be in utter awe. "Someone who doesn't question my food? Someone who can eat the whole thing? Wow! Well, I got way more for you, you don't got anywhere to be do you?"
They didn't respond. She decided to press a little. "Where do you come from?"
"Tower." They said.
"Oh, me too, I come from a tower! Born and raised at the Pizza Tower, which if you walk a bit, you can find the remains of! What kind of tower do you come from?"
"Pizza Tower."
Tilting her head, she stared at their blank expression. "I don't think I saw you before. What's your name?"
"Voise."
Noisette was silent for a bit before she felt an excitement building within her. She still didn't know who they were, but there had to be something to look forward to if their name was similar to hers and the very obvious other one. "Ooh!! Are you a relative of Noisy? There's a couple of people who kinda look like him. It's pretty weird, especially that orange one who speaks in this really pronounced accent but don't tell him I said that."
They thought about what to really say to explain it, but she continued. "Wait! You look like me though too! Oh my gosh, are you like our kid from the future? I see that happen in shows."
"Nope. Well. Sorta."
"… How is that a sorta?"
Bringing out a sketchbook and placing it on the counter, they began to scribble a summary of who they were. There was a stickfigure with a pizza slice for a head, right next to him was a question mark, and following that was an arrow next to it coming from a doodle that was meant to be Noisette. A scribble was drawn next to the drawing of Pizzahead to show his displeasure and then there was a figure of Noise with an arrow coming from him pointing to the question mark. An equal sign was then drawn under that and there was a drawing of Voise.
The drawing continued as promptly they drew them getting crushed by a bunch of stone, and multiple dots around what she concluded were the ruins of the tower, with the dots moving away, representing everyone.
"I've got to say, it's a joy to see another artist besides Pepperman, that guy gives me the creeps." Noisette commented, albeit a bit delayed. It was odd, yet it still excited her. She was picking up the pieces of what they were trying to explain, but they had her DNA, as well as The Noise's. They had to be able to truly understand her, as well as all other benefits to having a duplicate that was also the both of them. "So, do you know why Pizzahead made you?"
"Back up."
"Ah. Have you just been under all that stone this whole time, what happened? If you showed yourself earlier, you could have belonged!"
"Stone hit me. Passed out."
"Oh no! Well. What are you going to do now? You don't have a place to stay."
"Don't know---"
"Can you stay with us, please!!!!! I want to keep you! Peppino has his artificial goopy counterpart and I love that guy, but having my own would be so good! Besides, you are like our family, technically, and we can't just abandon you. Well, I say 'we' but I don't know what Noisy would think about it. Maybe we should wait for him."
Silence. Three, two, one…
Someone bolted through the door again, and it happened to be Noise himself, a finger pointed upwards. "Hey babe, Peppino just called me accusing me of messin' with him, can you believe that? He must want my life to revolve around him if he's got the nerve to be contacting me during work hours." He'll notice the newcomer in a bit. "But then he's saying if it ain't me, then you have to be messing with him, which that's an insult if he thinks my partner would be going through his trash that smells like rotten marinara."
As he walked up to the counter, it was then he blinked and finally shifted his eye towards the brown spot in the corner of his vision. "Oh, hey, am I big enough to have copycats now?" He loudly asked.
"Clone, actually." Noisette corrected.
"Say what? Does someone have the tech to grow me in a lab or somethin'?"
She happy lifted Voise's sketchbook, which he read over. "They said their name is Voise, and they were made as 'back up'. I think that might have something to do with you not coming from the Tower, maybe Pizzahead thought you might leave. They've been stuck under the ruins this whole time, how awful is that?"
"…" He debated his thoughts, before backing away, making brief eye contact with his girlfriend before turning his eye on their clone. "So, you toyed with the Italian man's garbage?"
"Yeah. Scared him a little." They responded.
"Well, kiddo, here's the thing. Pranking him, startling him, doing everything to make his day worse is my job. You think you can out-Noise The Noise?"
"Not trying to."
"Ya should have considered that before you said you were created to be my back up! This is serious business here, you gotta fight me to prove you're worth staying here!"
"Okay."
"Theo," Noisette spoke up. "they probably never fought before, you can't just threaten them. I said they were allowed to stay."
"Trust the process, my love! Besides, they agreed." He stated. Readying his pogo-stick, he glared them down. They had the same blank expression as they looked towards him, getting off the stool and then just standing across from him.
He started off my jumping towards them with his pogo-stick, before they pulled out a hammer and batted him away. Grunting, he swiftly pulled out his revolver and shot some very non-lethal bullets, leaving them to get hit as they pulled out a giant can of whipped cream to launch them towards him and hit him yet again with their hammer.
"Got anything else?" He taunted, pulling out his skateboard and kicking it at them to push them some distance.
"You wish I didn't." They calmly responded, pulling out a rocket launcher. Noise flinced, not wanting anything that would come out of that and charging towards them and their punches devolved into a dust cloud of flying fists and kicks, occasional bits of their arsenal spilling out. They soon both emerged from it, covered in bruises.
He took a deep breath before laughing. Voise was confused by this, putting their fists up wondering if the brawl still wasn't over. He, however, soon confirmed, "it's fine, fight's over. You proved yourself you can keep up with me! You gave me enough time to make my decision."
"You were planning on losing?" Noisette asked.
"No, no, it wasn't a loss, I'm calling it off. See, I just needed some time. I can tell by the look in your eyes that you want to keep them, and I realize that this all works out perfectly."
"How so?"
"You see, being a superstar celebrity isn't easy, building a successful life means there's gotta be stuff for the crowd to feed on. I already have this image of a sweet significant other, being devoted to a humble cafe owner, but there can be more. I tell my audience that I adopted this loner off the streets and welcomed them into my family, and raise them as my apprentice, the heir to my craft."
Facing the clone, he pointed towards them. "Voise, I will teach you to refine your craft, to be a star that unsettles everyone! Pranking people is one thing, but your weird vibes adds some flavour to it. What do you say?"
"Sure." They spoke.
"… Gonna show some more enthusiasm?"
"Yeeeeeeeees, siiiiiiiir." They were sure to say this as dryly and emotionless as possible.
"That's the best I'm gonna get probably!" He walked up to them, patting them on the back. It was strange, the feeling he was getting from them. They were a clone of the two of them, but it did kind of feel like adopting a child. Maybe that's what Noisette would want, not that he wasn't thinking about the future or anything. He was serious about Noisette, but having a kid was different. It was all good now though, he had a protege to his work now, handed someone who would be raised under his wing.
"You're probably going to need a name besides Voise, but we'll work on that." Noisette chirped. "Oh I can't wait to do so much for you!!!" She ran up to the two and hugged them.
It was a peaceful scene until Peppino walked in. He took a deep breath to speak and then he proceeded to scream. "OH GODS THERE'S A-THREE OF YOU NOW?"

Evil Y/N x Evil Peppino
Was writing a different fic and then I scrolled through @pervertedindividual 's evil Peppino comics and @angelofpizza 's drawings and randomly got inspired, in a way, and made this instead x)
Summary: Peppino has done some unsavory crimes. What he doesn't know is your just as evil, if not more so, than he is and he has trouble processing it.
Contains: Mentions of murder, Death, Dark theme, Description of murders, Kinda crazy mutual possessive love, Y/N might be more evil than Peppino, The Birds (well A bird) attack, Swearing is caring, somewhat crackish in a part or two (trust me you'll know where)
"Do you wanna hide a body?" You sing to yourself, a cleaver glinting in the light as swings downward. "It doesn't have to be in one piece!" A sickening crunch fills your ears followed by a heavy thud.
"Whoo boy, I'm gonna need more bleach"!
You slump into the chair with a sigh as the pressure is taken off your feet. As you relaxed, the tingling in your arms grew into a throbbing pain. That was going to feel great in the morning. You think before staring at the stone counter, watching as thick red lines down onto the tile floor. You grimace, knowing you still haven't even gotten to the cleaning part of the job.
From another room you heard a faint chime. It was almost too far away -that if you moved- you might've missed it.
Was it that late already? The chiming grew more frantic and loud. You grumble, reluctantly getting to your feet as you make your way out of the garage and into your home.
I guess I should eat something while I'm at it.
* * * * *
Peppino wiped the sweat from his brow with the back of his hand. In one final motion he slams the dumpster shut. That had taken much longer than he anticipated. Oh well, the deed was done, he wiped his hands on his pant legs as he stepped out of the alleyway.
Now to just head back into the restaurant, wash off quickly, and go find you. Peppino checked the clock as he strode into the backroom. Good. You would be headed this way soon as you walked home.
With a final glance over Peppino nodded to himself, determining he looked presentable enough. He frowned as a few stains finally caught his attention. Cazzo! That could be a problem.
Peppino had already spent too much time in here, he needed to hurry. He darted out of the bathroom and into the office to grab your gift. If anything, Peppino could just tell you he spilled some sauce. You would believe him, you had no reason not to. Anxiety crept into his thoughts as he stepped down the dirt road away from the pizzeria.
What if you found out it was blood? He could imagine your sweet face twisting into disgust and horror. You running away from him as the image of your dear friend became tarnished forever.
He swallowed thickly. No. He could say he was cutting sausage or some kind of meat. Peppino became almost too engrossed in this train of thought that he almost didn't notice you were heading right towards him.
A short yelp had you jumping back as Peppino whipped around, eyes wide. "Hey, are you ok Pino?" You tilt your head as he gave you a short laugh in response.
"Oh signorina! I didn't realize you were there!" Peppino replied, regaining his composure. "But that's not-a important right now".
You blink as a blur of colors are pushed close to your face. You realize it's a bouquet.
"For you".
"Oh Peppino, you shouldn't have!" You smile brightly as you take the flowers, pressing them flowers into your. Peppino returned your smile, watching as a happy sigh escaped your lips. You inhaled deeply, relishing the sweet scent.
It was a good thing you didn't go into any alleyways, he wouldn't want you to faint if you had seen the blood trail, or worse, the corpse of that filth that flirted with you the other day. Just the thought alone made him clench his jaw.
Although, if you did, Peppino would be there to comfort you and tell you to keep close to him. He'd tell you that he would protect you. He'd make sure no one would hurt you. That much was true, Peppino would never let his sweet and innocent Y/N be met with an ill fate. Or suffer the affections of another.
You were his after all. Even if you didn't know it. Yet. One day you'd be his in more than just his fantasies.
Peppino buried his face into your neck as you threw your arms around him in a hug. Oh what he'd do to keep you close like this for longer, or when ever he wanted. He let out a small sigh, hiding his disappointment as you pulled away. Peppino clasped his hands behind his back, fighting the desire to yank you back into his arms. To bury his face into your neck and inhale your intoxicating scent.
As you said goodbye and continued on your way home, Peppino's eyes lingered on the horizon. You were just a small dark blob from here but Peppino couldn't tear his gaze from you. Even after you were no longer visible he remained rooted in place.
* * * * *
"Hey Peppino, she's out there. Again." Gustavo gestured over to the window. Peppino's eyes followed to where Gustavo's finger was pointing. Across the street a figure was sitting in their car with something pressed to their face.
"Merda. That-a crazy signorina". Peppino grumbled to himself as decided to go outside this time. That would catch you off guard. You had been doing this for months now, sometimes up to four times a week. Didn't you have your own job to be at? The door swings open as he steps outside, the gentle breeze pleasantly cool compared to the kitchen.
"Good morning, ragazza matta!" He yells across the street. You drop your binoculars into your lap, head jerking away as heat rises to your face. Shit. He seen you. Ok, play it cool Y/N. Pretend you haven't been watching him for an hour. You were looking at something else! Of course you were.
Your eyes focus in the opposite direction from where Peppino was. Eyes locked onto a lamppost with sudden fascination. Damn that sure was a tall one wasn't it? And was it made of metal? Wow, look at that glow fro-
"Whatcha doin' signorina"? You jump at the all too familiar voice, tentatively turning your head to the voice. Peppino was leaning an arm into your open window and smirking down at you.
"O-oh you know. Just hanging out." You drawl, fidgeting with the hem of your shirt. Peppino's eyes glimmer with something predatory, as if he had caught some helpless prey.
"You 'hang out-a' here a lot". Peppino replies nonchalantly, watching as you shrink into the seat.
Shit. How long had Peppino known you were doing this?
"If you want-a gawk at me, come inside to get-a better view." he teases, hitching a thumb behind himself at the pizzeria. Peppino winks at you, "I'll even give you a free slice while I'm at it".
"O-oh." You fell silent, feeling beads of sweat form onto the back of your neck. Peppino opened the car door and held out his hand to you. As you take his hand your heart flutters. His hand fit perfectly with yours, like it was meant to. You idly brush your thumb along his hand, feeling the roughness against your softer palm. Peppino helped you to your feet but quirked an eyebrow at feeling your grip tighten instead of letting go.
"Y/N?" Peppino raises his hand, yours still holding onto his.
"Oh! Sorry!" You drop your hand to your side and give what you hoped was an apologetic look. One day. One day you'd be able to enjoy having his hand in yours for as long as you wanted.
* * * * *
You spent the remainder of your day sitting in the pizzeria. Every so often Peppino would return to your booth and talk, sometimes offering more food or to refill your drink. When he'd return back behind the counter, you'd watch Peppino work alongside Gustavo as they'd fill orders and cook. You were content to simply admire him, appreciating Peppino at every angle when he wasn't looking.
Outside the sky had transformed into yellow and pink hues as evening began to settle in. You stood to stretch your legs again, deciding to stay here for a while longer before going home. Overall, you had no complaints as you simply enjoyed being in the general proximity as Peppino.
...
That was until they walked in. Currently you were shoving down that feeling again. You idly felt in your pocket for the familiar shape, fingers slightly curled into the fabric as you drew in a shaky breath.
You narrowed your eyes, lips forming a thin line. Who the fuck is she? You glower, anger increasing with every movement the woman made.
Peppino's eyes darted to the side, at you, before returning his attention to the woman across the table. In that moment Peppino decided he would ignore you for the moment, amused at your reaction.
When he first glanced over at you, he was taken aback, barely recognizing you with that enraged expression. Why did you look like that? As the woman began talking again it dawned on Peppino that your eyes were set on her.
Peppino smiled back at this woman, not even caring to remember her name, just that her very existence was pissing you off. He grinned as she leaned closer to him. What she said was a compliment -he thinks- about how handsome he looked. What Peppino was actually grinning at was how you were now clenching at your pant leg, your eyes locked onto this woman.
Now this was interesting. Peppino decided to play along a little longer and continue talking to your newfound enemy. Your reaction was cute with how jealous you were.
Peppino knew you had feelings for him. A part of him wanted to confess to you how he felt the same. However, Peppino knew his crimes and dealings would send you running in the opposite direction. Even if he wanted to have you for himself, he couldn't. At least not right now. He needed to be patient and wait until he could taper off his crimes. It was that or Peppino would have to come up with dozens of methods to keep you in the dark about his misdeeds. Neither were ideal but it was for the best. For now.
He's mine. You continued to seethe inwardly. Who the fuck do you think you are? Walking in here like you own the place.
He's Mine.
The word repeated in your head as a mantra as you continue watching the scene unfold from your own booth.
Jealousy. Hate. The two things you always heard that made someone ugly, you were exuding it. The emotions bubbling up and blanketing you in a dark aura.
She had ordered a salad and garlic knots which had long been finished by now. Originally you paid her no mind, much like every other customer that came in.
What snapped your attention to her was when you heard a tinkling laugher and locked onto Peppino, sitting at the same table across from her. He initially was just going to take the cleared dishes to the kitchen but the woman had struck up a conversation, urging him to stay.
* * * * *
"Hi!" You call out waving at the woman as you approach. She whips around at your voice, giving you a dubious look.
"Do you mind if I walk with you? I hate being on the street at night like this, it makes me nervous." You rub the back of your neck. "Sorry to be a bother".
"Oh! Sure!" She nods and smiles at you, making room for you to walk beside her on the sidewalk. "I started to think the same thing, I'm not usually out this late. A bit of company makes me feel safer, too".
Meaningless conversation droned on and on as the woman talked with you. About what? You didn't care, what she was saying barely even registered as the gears in your head turned. A shrill cry pierced your ears as something flapped overheard and away from you. Just another block. One more. You were so close. Your heart began thudding loudly, drowning out the background noise as your destination grew closer.
In that moment you slowed until the woman was walking in front of you. You clamp your hand over her mouth before yanking her against your chest and ducking into the alley. At an instant she begins to flail wildly, you wince as she steps on your foot and the vibrations against your hand only increase as her panic fully sets in.
Despite her best but futile effort your grip doesn't loosen. With your other arm you snake it around her waist before leaning your full weight forward, dropping both of you to the ground. You sputter as her elbow jabs you in the stomach and a shrill scream causes you to grit your teeth, scrambling to clamp your hand over her mouth again. "If you don't stop struggling I'm going to kill you instead." You hiss into her ear.
A vicious smirk flashed across your face as your free hand withdrew from your pocket. Peppino was yours. And you weren't going to have anyone take him from you.
..
Peppino watched curiously when you left the pizzeria, shortly after that woman did. From a distance he followed as you skulked down the street. He quirked an eyebrow as you approached the woman, throwing up a friendly facade, starkly contrasting to your demeanor in the pizzeria. Peppino chose not to interfere as you dragged her into an alleyway. When you stepped out and the woman didn't, Peppino knew, without even having to check, to know what you had done.
Though that seemed wrong. You were too innocent to do something like that. Right? Had that woman really worked you up into a frenzy that you-
Peppino stepped into the alleyway anyways, curious to see how you did it. What he seen had left him speechless and frozen. Multiple slashes were all at key points. You were quick and efficient, only being in this alley for a few minutes. This obviously hadn't been the first time you had killed.
All for merely flirting with him.
You both were the same, in a way, he realized.
* * * * *
"So..." You trail off voice barely above a whisper as you lean closer to him. "Ever use that to slit someone's throat?"
He sputtered. "Wha? Why-a would you ask that? Dio mios, this is-a for cutting pizza"!
"Come on, really?" You shoot him an incredulous stare, "You think I'm that naive?" You ask, giving an indignant huff.
When you stepped out of that alleyway that night, you knew someone had been following you. At first you didn't know who, making you rush to finish the job. As you darted across the street you watched from the cover of the shadows and foliage. You let out a small gasp, covering your mouth as you make a face at the coppery odor.
You wondered how Peppino would react to you next time you approached him. Would he pretend he hadn't almost witnessed a murder? It would seem so.
You knew he had killed before, too. To what extent you weren't sure, but him playing dumb was endearing.
"That's a pretty nifty device though," you nod your head towards the pizza cutter he had instead of a hand. "You basically have a weapon on you at all times. For me I have my own methods and how to dispose of the bodies after. I prefer to take a niiiice boating expedition out to sea. Or, did you know that a few pigs can completely eliminate the evidence within a day?" You flash him a wicked grin, your teeth gleaming in the light.
Had Peppino not followed you that day, you would've baffled him. He would've thought you were alluding to knowing he killed people before and were threatening to have him arrested. Now though, he realized you weren't nearly as good natured as he always assumed.
"It's a much better method than hiding a body in a dumpster". Peppino's eyes widened, his mouth open to protest but no words came out. You knew?
You drop the subject and chuckle at his expression. Instead you pop the remains of crust into your mouth before leaning back into the booth, smiling at him.
Desire peppered Peppino's thoughts as he watched you practically skip out the door. Maybe he wouldn't have to wait to confess. Although, if you felt the same, why wouldn't you do it? As he stared back to where you had been seated Peppino's thoughts wandered to your words earlier.
Were you more deranged than he was? He was anxious about protecting you from himself. What if...he needed to be protected from you? If he pissed you off, would you also kill him? Anxiety didn't rear it's head as often as it used to. Usually Peppino buried that feeling down and replaced it with rage anymore. As he began to sweat he noticed his hand was trembling when he rubbed the back of his neck.
* * * * *
"I'm so stupid!" You groan, flopping onto the bed. "Masterful gambit Y/N! Ooooh! You know I kill people! I know you kill people! Let's talk about how we kill people"! You fling your arms upwards in exasperation before pressing a pillow into your face, letting out a muffled scream.
You toss the pillow to the floor and glare up at the ceiling, taking your rant internally. Should you even go back to the pizzeria? No? Maybe you should leave Peppino alone for a bit. He's probably still shocked at his new discovery about you. Give him time, it'll be ok. Right?
You bolt upright as something roughly taps at your window. Seeing nothing there, you begin to settle back down before the sound repeats. It was getting late, you agree, seemingly to no one as you walk over to the window. You undid the latch and pushed it open before stumbling backwards as a black blur sped past you, thudding onto your pillows.
You fold your arms across you chest as brown eyes blink back at you. "And where have you been all day, mister?" You ask the raven.
"Gwah!" He replies back at you before hopping the edge of the bed.
"Oh, is that so?" You nod at the reply, extending a hand to rub at the bird's neck. A croak bubbles in his throat and he flaps off towards your dresser, perching on the edge.
"Is my sweet baby boy Blackberry hungry?" You croon. The raven dubbed Blackberry pecked at a bell laying beside him before lifting it with his beak. You smiled slightly as he rapidly bobbed his head, the bell ringing loud and erratic.
"You sure are! Come on buddy." You call over your shoulder, crossing the threshold from your room. The bell clanging as it drops to the floor with your raven squawking after you.
You fix Blackberry his meal and pour a glass of water for yourself, bringing both to the table. He clicked at you happily as you pushed the bowl to him. His head instantly ducking into it to swallow down a piece of meat. You watch the massive bird for a time until your thoughts returned to Peppino.
"I think I fucked up." You say, resting your head into your arms as you lean into the table. "I think I should give Peppino some space.  Maybe I should only try to greet him in public for a while? That way it'll put him at ease that I won't kill him. At least until the shock wears off".
"GwaaaaAAAaah!" Blackberry replies, rolling a berry towards you. You ignore him, flicking it back.
"But..." You trail off to stare vacantly at the wall. Past memories floated to the surface. The times you would go on late night walks together, just enjoying each other's company in peace. When you'd stop by the pizzeria and how Peppino would have you favorite pizza freshly made and waiting for you. Even if you tried to pay he'd refuse to take your money. Though that didn't stop you from throwing a generous amount into the tip jar when he wasn't looking.
You frown at how he acted earlier today. How he had a slight tremble to his voice and movements as he spoke with you. "What if it never does? What if I'm too fucked up even for him"?
You flinch as Blackberry snaps his beak an inch from your face. "Well I'm just thinking about the worst case here!" You argue, moving your head away as he snaps at you again.
In response you cup the birds face in your hands, thumbs stroking at his cheeks. "Fine." You murmur. "I'll stop assuming the worst and give Peppino time".
"Tok tok." Blackberry clicks back at you, closing his eyes as you continued petting him for another minute.
As you move your hands away back under your chin Blackberry hops over to his bowl, fishing for some other treat.
"Thanks for telling me someone was following me that day". You were thankful the fact it was Peppino and not anyone else. That was too close and almost too sloppy for your liking. Had it not been Peppino that watched you go into the alley the whole situation could've gotten much more messy.
You yawn but are interrupted with a gagging fit, the raven shoving a piece of egg into your open mouth. Bits of shell and yolk fly across the table as you sputter and spit, grabbing for your drink and chug it. With a final cough you draw in a steady breath and glare at your assailant.
"WHY"!?
* * * * *
In his peripheral Peppino caught a glimpse of a familiar shape in the shadows.
Peppino ducked his head lower to Gustavo's ear. "I-a fear no man, but that-a woman...she scares me." Peppino murmured to him. Your eyes followed after Peppino as the pair walked away from the corridor. Gustavo replied back with something but he too was speaking softly and too far away to discern any of the words.
Weeks had passed since the last time he seen you at his pizzeria. It was as if you disappeared out of existence. After that day,  Peppino had started requesting Gus to follow him home. It helped to offset the knot in the pit of his stomach when ever shadows darted off the walls or when he would pass an unlit alley.
Sometimes you'd meet Peppino when he was in the street, as if suddenly popping into reality again just to haunt him. Peppino always made sure to remain in public view from now on when you were around, in case you tried anything. The time before last you looked hurt when he flinched at a hand movement that was a little too quick.
Then the last time Peppino had bumped into you, you threw your arms around him, hugging him tightly. You whispered in his ear that you missed him. When you did that, it reminded Peppino of the memories he had with you.
How you'd both talk for hours after he closed for the day. Other times where you'd both watch horror movies and he'd laugh to himself as you'd always link your arm with his in fear (So he thought. At the time anyways). Anything on the screen was nothing compared to what he could do, but he'd sooth you by tracing gentle circles against your skin.
The soft laughter that hung in the air as you laughed at Peppino's jokes, even if they were bad, or just sarcastic remarks. He missed the sweets you baked for him and how brightly you smiled at his compliments.
Why had he suddenly taken to avoiding you? You killed one person, at least one, that flirted with him. Hell, even he did that for you, but you weren't afraid of him. How long had you known he had been doing that anyways? Why was he so unsettled by you, now? He was bigger and stronger than you were.
Was that the reason? Someone smaller than he was that was just as -if not more- dangerous than him, was off-putting?
Peppino waved Gustavo off, thanking him for accompanying him, again, tonight. Peppino locked the door behind himself as he made his way to the shower before going to sleep.
Thoughts of you flooded his memories as he shifted constantly in bed. He didn't want to let you go. What if that day was the last day he'd ever see you? The last thing he did was keep his arms to his sides for far too long before he finally wrapped them around you, replying he missed you too. It couldn't end like that. He didn't want it to.
* * * * *
The wind carried a chill tonight as Peppino walked home alone. Unfortunately Gustavo had to go home early, leaving Peppino with only the sound of his own footsteps and rustling leaves. Despite his resolve to find and speak with you, unease still nagged at him.
You need to get over it. Peppino reminded himself, again, that you weren't going to kill him. Even if you were sick in the head like he was, that didn't mean you were incapable of feeling. He knew you cared about him.
Peppino jumped at feeling someone tap his shoulder. He took several staggering steps back upon realizing it was you. Suddenly appearing out of nowhere again. A frown plays on your lips and you furrow your brow at his actions.
You shake the negative thoughts away. After today he wouldn't look at you with fear anymore.
You hoped.
"Oh, hey there handsome, wanna go behind the back alley?" You force a smile, knife settled behind your back.
Peppino froze, mind racing at the various implications this could mean. Did he trust you? He thought he did. Even if he didn't, would he be able to overpower you, if you tried anything? He looked downward at the poorly concealed weapon you held. The thought sent a chill up his spine and made his heart race. Had you shown up tonight to take your anger out on him for avoiding you?
Peppino nodded weakly at you, you responded with a small but genuine smile. You gesture with your head towards the alley across the street.
He followed you as if in a trance, weaving through cross sections and corridors until a large dark sheet formed a wall before you both. With the flash of the knife Peppino flinched, the sound of fabric tearing broke the silence and the massive curtain fluttered to the ground.
As Peppino focused on what was there, he realized he was at the entrance to a small fenced in courtyard. Complete with high hedges and a iron wrought fence that climbing halfway up them. In the center of the room was a table with a pair of plates, glasses, and utensils. The centerpiece was a simple candle decoration, the glow from it and the moon providing the only light to the area. In front of the entryway in dark letters were the words "Will you be mine"? the word 'mine' being bolder than the others.
You turn to Peppino, the knife clattering to the ground as you took a step towards him. "I would never hurt my sweet 'Pino." You placed both hands on either side of his waist. "You know that, right"? Peppino's expression softened as he brought his hand up to your cheek. He looked behind you back at the words on the ground but said nothing.
"Well, come on." You pull away and tug at his arm. "I made dinner".
As Peppino sat down, you lifted the cover from the large bowl in the center. Fragrant herbs and sauce filled the air as you dipped a pair of tongs into it, heaping a mess of pasta onto your plate before holding it out towards Peppino. He takes it and exchanges his empty one into your hand.
You still weren't done serving food though. A shallow plate was pushed towards him along with a chunk of bread. A thick liquid was poured to one side before you followed the same routine for your own plate.
Peppino tore off a tiny bit of bread and dipped it into the liquid. His eyes widened at the taste. This was the olive oil mixture you made together, months ago. The recipe he taught you was one Peppino made himself when he was much younger.
You leant down, shuffled around in a bag Peppino hadn't noticed, and brought up a bottle of red wine. You smiled at him as you filled each glass.
While there had usually been chatter between you two previously, there was none now. Only the sound of forks scraping against plates and the occasional tink of your glass. You watched as Peppino ate slower than normal.
He had no idea what to make of any of this. Well, the question on the ground gave Peppino a big enough hint for the meaning of this dinner. Was this a date? Could he even consider this a date?
You nod down at the drink Peppino left untouched. "What? Do you expect to find strychnine in your red wine"? He winced as you guessed correctly. Well, aside from that choice of poison. That was oddly specif-
"There's not actually strychnine in it." You reply flatly, not bothering to look up as you twirl the pasta with your fork.
You cover your mouth with your napkin, masking your sigh. This was a mistake wasn't it? A lump forms in your throat and take a moment to clear it before you speak again. When you finally do, you look up at Peppino sadly. "I'm sorry for dragging you here. I just thought...it would make up for these last few months I haven't been around to see you".
You set the napkin down next to the plate.
"I got a job in the next town over for the next few months and thought that I would like it. But I..." you fall silent and swallow against the uncomfortable feeling. "I miss you".
Peppino remains speechless, watching as tears threaten to spill over as you turn away. You get to your feet and wipe your eyes with the back of your hand.
"I should've left you alone after that but I don't want to. I still don't." You choke. Peppino's hand shot out and caught your wrist before you could walk away. Your gaze mets his, bewildered, as he stands up to yank you against his chest.
"Then don't". Peppino whispers, wrapping both arms around you tightly. "Be mine. Be all mine". You bury your head into his neck as tears soak his skin and into his shirt as he said this. You cling to Peppino as if he would disappear at any moment.
"I'll-a be yours." He presses a kiss to your temple. "You don't have to kill anyone for it to stay-a that way".
"You too." You reply, albeit muffled, and press a kiss into his collarbone. "I'm so fucked up".
"Yes-a you are. You're the most-a fucked up signorina I ever met." Peppino pat you on the back and took your chin in his hand, tilting your head up to look at him.
"Do you mean that"?
Peppino nodded, "Even more than-a me. You scare me when-a you get angry. It's exciting".
Silence takes over once more but it's a comforting stillness. You relaxed into Peppino's arms, staying like this as long as you both needed and wanted. Every so often either of you pressed small kisses against the other.
"If anyone upsets or hurts you, I'll kill them".
"I know, Y/N." Peppino caressed your face. He would've told you the same but words weren't needed. You knew and so did he. Peppino's lips were on yours in that moment, hand pressed to the back of your head as he deepened the kiss.
You pressed into his body as much as you could, hands against his hips as you pulled him close. A whine bubbled in your throat, wishing you could be closer still.
A shrill sound caused Peppino to abruptly break the kiss as he jerked his head upwards. His eyes darted to the direction he heard it had come from, quirking an eyebrow as you seemed more annoyed than startled.
"The fuck-a is that?" Peppino squints up at a dark mass settled on the tree.
With a huff you pull a small item from your pocket, giving it a few clicks. At an instant the mass swooped down and you lurched forward as a large bird slammed into your back. Peppino winced as he attempted to help you steady yourself. As he did so his eyes fixed onto the face of the bird that was peering over your shoulder at him.
"This is Blackberry." You point to the raven, not that you needed to, as it snapped it's beak in the air. "He was supposed to stay in the tree". You reach behind your back to shoo him off, watching as Blackberry hopped to the ground.
Peppino stifled a laugh as the bird snatched a piece of bread from the table. "You're always full-a surprises signorina".
His eyes darkened as he fixed his attention back onto you. "But, anyways..." his arm snaked around your waist, "Would you like to continue where we left off? Somewhere more...private?" He smirks as you're already melting into his touch. His forehead presses against yours, you shudder as his breath ghosts your lips. "We can belong to each other. I'll be yours and you'll be mine. How does that sound"?
You close your eyes and nod, feeling yourself hoisted into Peppino's arms as he scoops you up. You wrap your arms around his neck, listening to his breathing while he carries you back to his home. He would be sure to relish in the prized catch that was you, and he knew you felt the same.
(My brain came up with this at 4am lmao, so in my delirious state you got a dash of crack to this :] 💜 )
Also obvious disclaimer: don't kill people
