The Olfactory Shortcoming of Crowds, Trains, and Church

Stuck, sitting between two men

who reek of raw cologne

so powerful, the potent smell

just won’t leave me alone.

I’m truly trying to focus,

praying for sweet relief,

but still the odor steals away

my attention like a thief.

My eyes look towards the exit,

my lips wish to oppose,

but my poor nose knows only

that it really wants to close.

And thus the age-old problem

of company is well known:

folks are fine, but some things

are still better done alone.
