what's divine punishment's dynamic? (sorry, new here. I saw the banger ship name, noel, kayne, and ran here as fast as i could)

DONT YOU DARE APOLOGISE ANON YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY!!!! Teehee time to talk about my favourite guys ever. Divine punishment is my favourite dynamic/ship so ive gone a little bit over the top explaining it because it comes from so many places in my brain (i am also a chronic yapper).

Firstly, my version involves the two of them vaguely interacting in Eygpt. Its not exactly meeting per say but Kayne is hanging around the excavation site for both the black and grey stones and is aware that Charlie is the one to steal the stone. This is inspired/stolen from The Man in the Mirror which is @grayscale-sparks’s wonderful Noel backstory fic that i yap about a lot.

Kayne then fucks off to go kill every other version of himself and Charlie is taken by the King causing Kayne to lose track of the vaguely interesting mortal who stole the stone. Until at some point during Charlies time in the prison pits Kayne finds him and strikes a deal, hes the one who alerts the Cana to get Charlie out.

Charlie makes his way out of the dreamlands by himself but Kaynes still rather interested in him. He managed to get the stone, survive The King and the Dreamlands after being in the prison pits, now thats just fascinating. So instead of having to re-build his life on his own Kayne starts appearing in Charlies life, at first Charlie does not appreciate this but over time Kayne ends up becoming the only stable thing in his life (which is saying something). Kayne is the only person Charlie really has to talk to who would understand what the fuck hes been through and Charlie is interesting to Kayne (and maybe theres a little bit more than just normal interest there). Charlie also feels indebted to Kayne since he was the one to get him out of the prison pits. The reason im using Charlie here is because he specifically asked Kayne to keep calling him his old name as a way of trying to continue separating Noel and the Eldritch parts of his life.

Its during the two year period after Noel escapes the dreamlands before Malevolent that they become property interesting and dynamicy it is not at all healthy however.

Also @absoluteocellibehavior suggested the idea that Kayne could use Noel as a backup option for sending to get the blackstone since he has similar criteria to Arthur: has been in the same room as grey stone, was a pi, has a good knowledge of the eldritch, ect. He just doesnt use him since Arthur is his favourite, but should Arthur fail he is keeping Charlie in reserve to go after the blackstone for him.

(This can also feed into an idea of divine punishment without the time from after the king-before malevolent of just the two of them ending up together after part 40 while Kayne is bored and cant see Arthur in the 13th century)

To sum up: Charlie feels indebted to Kayne. He also views him as the only stable part of his life and at time acts as a reminder that he isnt insane and the King did happen. Kayne thinks Charlies interesting (but not to the point of obsession the same way he is with Arthur) and is keeping him as an option should Arthur fail. They are also fond of one another in deeply fucked up ways (i love it when Noel has the chance to be slightly scary and Kayne gives it).

Okay, so I haven't watched all of FMAB yet, but I love how Ed is so fucking oblivious. He got a gorgeous girl, way smarter than him and out of everybody's league, who plays with the cord of the telephone when they speak together because she's down bad and laughs softly when he talks. But i've come to learn that it being called "content" makes me feel weird. its. my self ship. its not a show, i'm just being silly in my corner. like i dont mind, per se, but i'd rather it not be called content. especially when i've struggled wit viewing my own self ship as content for others in the past

I, personally, feel that two ships could coexist in the same fandom using one of the characters for different partners if some of the fans weren't such entitled bitches and comment shit on post that have nothing to do with say ship.

in order to coexist in a fandom, you have to be respectful of others people HC's or ships. like you can't consistently shit on someone ship and expect for people to not talk shit about yours. it's all about being respectful - I don't believe writers/artists (or editing) enjoy consistently receiving underneath their work comments like: "oh this is so beautiful but i prefer (ship name)" or "this (ship name) doesn't make sense, but nice writing".

I've seen people comment on others blog post, shit like, "I don't agree with you, but nice try." there shouldn't be a need for such a condescending comment. If you don't agree, cool. Stay quiet, and mind your business. If you don't ship two characters, than cool, stay quiet.

and there should also be no need for someone to send anonymous hate to someone because they don't particularly like a ship or they use their blog to talk about about their dislike. If you don't agree with the person, just unfollow them.

Coexisting in a fandom is about being respectful and just enjoying the content without it becoming some fan war or a ploy to make someone feel like crap for not enjoying the same ship as you.

You could most definitely like a different ship and still be respectful to the people in the fandom. Like for an example, I absolutely love Bartylus and I am moots with many that prefer Jegulus & Rosekiller - but I take the time to enjoy my moots content and writing and see their POV of how say ship works for them. They respect my post about Bartylus and we coexist in a fandom.

talked w/ a friend about this and wanted to post something similar yesterday after a convo i saw also

about people criticizing ttcc / ttcc fans for just... being cog fans? being cog centric? usually coming from people who only like the toons.

and everyone likes what they like! it's okay! but saying that people who like the cogs are horrible and support the bad things they do, is just blatantly wrong. i thought we knew that enjoying villainous and morally Bad / grey characters is... okay? it doesn't mean you support what they do. it's interesting to explore these topics.

i've seen many people just... paint anyone who likes the cogs as horrible because they're "apologists of x and y" and... i dunno. rubs me the wrong way! you do have a point and recognize the cogs do bad things, but liking them as characters means nothing about who you are as a person.

and this is not to say that people who are in toontown for the toons are bad. hell! they are right this IS toontown. i may be on the cog liker side but i like the toons! maybe ocs more than the npcs - mostly because i like my friends and the sheer creativity the toons can bring out!!

SO what i wanna say... i dunno. let's not point fingers...? let's have fun in a goofy cartoon game together??? also complaining about people liking VILLAIN ROBOTS on TUMBLR is kind of funny to me. do you realize where you are. but then again a lot of this i see on discord and in-game as well since i avoid things on tumblr... i am a sensitive little fella i avoid misty fight bc of One Really mean "Critic" guy i saw there and i have been shivering in my bootsies since. so you get me

but like yes ttcc is more cog centric but... that's okay? things could be written better and i still wanna speak on it, and i do thing the toons deserve attention and better writing... but the fact it focuses on the cogs isn't... bad? if you don't like how con centric it is you can go play ttr...? god forbid people have fun and explore the villain's side of things...? i'm not saying either toontown server is better or worse than the other... and everyone can like their own things!!

but like... people will just like the cogs and that's okay and it doesn't make you bad. let's all be friends okay? both sides may be going at each other's necks in-game and the cogs in fact do horrible things - but it's what makes them fun, and it gives the toons things to do in the game!! but we don't gotta !!!!!!!! i may be really sarcastic and sometimes mean in private but like that's me just privately sassing, deep down i think people should just... y'know..? enjoy things.

Thoughts on Percico?

mild percico neg under the cut but it's not that bad imo

uhhh even in a fanon context where you age up the characters percy's feelings towards nico for most of pjato are basically "I feel responsible for/need to look out for this vulnerable child" (and yes percy is a child himself but he definitely does view nico as a young kid in a way that he doesn't view any of his similarly aged peers), and it's important to the story that percy feels that way - like his desire to protect this child is the stated reason why he confidently determines that he's going to take responsibility for the prophecy. so it's always going to be a squick for me to then apply romance to that kind of dynamic when that's how percy's feelings started out, and thus it's pretty impossible for me to approach or appreciate the ship in any context unless it's just a totally different au that is extremely far removed canon and no aspect of their original dynamic is retained

I have quite a few opinions on the percy&nico dynamic in general though and a few of my big ones are that 1. pjato doesn't give you a satisfying resolution to their tlo drama which is pretty disappointing and 2. I really don't buy that pjato nico had a crush on percy (and not even solely because nico was never originally conceived as gay) 3. I believe that they're capable of getting along cordially but based on the canon material I don't even really think they ever get to a point where they like each other platonically, and by "like" I don't mean respect or admire, I specifically mean enjoying the other person's presence & personality. which means I'm not even sure I see them as compatible as friends let alone as a couple. that's not necessarily unique to percy and nico though I kinda feel that way about half of percy's relationships with the hoo main cast lol
