Some fanart for @peony-pearl of her OC Haruka. Who is pretty and good at music and wears pretty dresses- literally everything Dai Yu loves, she'd be obsessed lol. I was trying to imagine this as happening before the start of both their stories, which places Dai Yu at about ten years old.

Create a perfect era two pearl for pink diamond
🥺
👉👈
Tumblr media
here she is, friend! a perfect pearl with a custom made gem, Peony is a passive but cheerful gem with undying loyalty to her diamond.
pink diamond is not a fan, but accepts the existence of this pearl for the sake of appearance. peony pearl is constantly walking on eggshells trying to please her but pink would never shatter her... as she is an era 2 pearl, and she couldn't betray her if she wanted... she hopes.
this is a retcon of me saying pink diamond (volleyball) did not get a pearl after her own rebelled.

Peony Rowswatter, the Pink Drewman

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Powerhouse with a Pixie Cut
Peony’s short, cute, and pink, but she’s actually a fair bit older than most of the others. She’s elegant and poised; graceful and intelligent. Her bubbly, kindergarten teacher-esque personality lends to some occasionally bossy and vaguely patronizing traits, but it’s better to have her on your side than to face her fury.
Of course, Peony is by no means above screwing around like everyone else. She can be obscenely stubborn and confrontational, and as smart and rational as she is, she’s emotional and, more importantly, vindictive.
Fun Facts
Tumblr media
Peony’s last name is phonetically identical to “rose water”.
Peony, originally Rosie, is the character who changed the most from Rough Sketch. Physically, she was a few inches taller by the end of it, was a darker, more intense shade of pink, had freckles and a gap between her teeth, had messier hair, and had rounded, more protruding eyes. Personality-wise, she was far more snarky, uptight, outwardly aggressive, and generally exasperated.
Peony also has the most drastic difference between human and Drewman form, due to how stylized her hairstyle is.
Peony/Rosie was originally designed as Rudy’s twin sister, J. ultimately filling a similar niche. Distancing the two from this is why she was redesigned so radically compared to the others.
Peony is the oldest member of ICT introduced in Season One, at thirty.
Peony doesn’t look visibly older than anyone else in ICT, but her human form has very faint wrinkles under her eyes and the series proper adds more facial lines to her expressions than most other characters.
Peony’s normally Ms. Mature, but she’s just as touchy about her height as Rudy and Chloe. She just stands en pointe when not walking to make it less obvious.

adri is certified The Worst but i’ve always wondered if cinder and pearl would eventually reconcile. I can imagine it happening once they’re much older than they are in the series (in their 20s or 30s maybe) because I think they would be able to make some amount of peace with each other for peony’s memory.
"that ask sent prematurely my bad, lowkey I think a showdown between Pearl and Iko years later would be hilarious, but the writer in me wants to see Pearl mature and develop beyond the person she was when she lived as her mother’s favorite and a pampered teenager. It’s hard to imagine what Pearl would become later on in life but I believe she would be more inclined/motivated to become a better person than her mother would be, especially because she’s so young when the events of the series happen and she has more room to grow. I don’t think her and Cinder would ever be friends, per se, but I can envision them eventually making peace and I wanted to know your thoughts on that whole can of worms lol" (the rest of the ask, I'll answer it in one).
Okay, but Pearl doesn't necessarily know that Iko is now in the escort droid body. So imagine the two meet and Pearl says, "you're so pretty, let's be besties!" Then Iko just slowly turns to her and sings back, "sorry, I already have a best friend. The empress of the Eastern Commonwealth. Heard of her?"😂
Here's my thoughts on Pearl. Pearl is designed to mimic Adri. Kai notes that "the resemblance between the two was remarkable", and that is not just visually. Pearl has absorbed all her mother's personality. And yet, she is not just a product of her upbringing. Her father—although a mentally-distant bumbling sort of a man—was by no means cruel or prejudiced like his wife. And even with Adri's awful influence, Peony grew up lovely and compassionate. So Pearl's poor personality cannot be blamed solely on Adri—she is bad by her own choices and attitudes.
Pearl is an interesting take on the wicked stepsister archetype. She was a young girl who had her family unit disrupted by this orphan entering it. She's forced to move out of her own bedroom, and Peony starts playing with her 'new sister', and then their father dies. In a small child's brain, it would be easy to associate all these changes with Cinder, especially when your mother openly condemns the girl. This is clear in Pearl's reaction to Peony's death, and her telling Cinder "I know you killed her," and "You shouldn't even say [Peony's] name." Yes, she's vain, yes, she's haughty, but also someone deep in grief and looking to throw blame.
We see Pearl return in Winter and she's no better. But with some time, I do think it could be possible that Pearl matures past those resentments. Let's say she stays on the anti-Cinder bandwagon for years, and when people ask her to justify those views, she explains all of Cinder's 'atrocious' deeds. Being the sole income provider for their family. Wanting to belong where she's not wanted. Neglected, verbally and physically assaulted. When Pearl says this to people, they stare at her like she's grown a third eyeball. "So...you're saying the empress is bad and you know because your family...neglected and harassed her?"
Eventually, they begin to dismantle her logic, and she's faced with the reality that not everything lines up.
Then Cinder names her daughter Peony. Adri is livid, and so is Pearl, but as Adri starts to claim "that wretched cyborg stole Peony's name as 'revenge' against us," Pearl is watching the newsfeed of Cinder and Kai, lovingly holding their daughter and looking at her with so much love. Then Pearl begins to think that maybe, just maybe, Cinder used that name because she loved Linh Peony. Maybe not everything about her is as malicious as it seems.
So Pearl takes a baby blanket embroidered with a peony flower, and goes to New Beijing Palace.
Cinder is floored when her secretary informs her that Linh Pearl is here to see her. Iko tells Cinder to send her away, but Kai—although visibly annoyed—tells Cinder that it is her decision. Cinder's curiosity is too strong, so she lets Pearl in.
Pearl is not nice. She comes in rather briskly, drops the gift on the table, and announces, "it's for the princess. Not for you."
"...Okay?" Cinder replies.
Then Pearl softens. "You named her after my sister, didn't you?"
"Yes."
A nod. "Because you loved her."
"I do love her," Cinder repeats her words from so long ago.
Pearl looks down, says nothing, and nods again. Then she leaves.
Cinder is stunned by the whole encounter, and the gift, but feels surprisingly relieved to have Pearl's 'approval'. They never become friends, they never associate, but they end it on what could be interpreted as a satisfactory note.
Now that's one head-canon possibility. I also think it's entirely possible that this never happens and Pearl remains stuck-up and hates Cinder for the rest of her days. Up to you all to decide.
Anyway thanks for the ask, I love to hear your thoughts vincentvangothic. I also need a nickname for you. Vincy? Gothy?

so of course i love that tlc is going to be in animation and that's such a good format of art for a movie but!! sometimes actors/characters just give give the Vibes of being tlc characters so i will compile my dream fancast for a live action tlc movie below:
cinder: janel parrish (i really liked her as the oldest sister on tatbilb, and anna cathcart could just as easily be peony <333 and lana condor as pearl so the three of them could play sisters again)
Tumblr media
scarlet: nicola coughlan (i used to fancast just like redhead actresses regardless of size when i was in 7th grade but i didn't realize scarlet was canonically chubby until later on; also nicola is so wonderful and i haven't seen bridgerton but she's probably talented!!)
Tumblr media
cress: sydney sweeney (it might seem an odd choice and she usually just does popular cool teenage girls but based on her performance in madame web i think she could do a shy anxious girl as well maybe?? her line delivery does feel a little flat but she has potential!! elle fanning might be a better choice but i would love to see sweeney more on my screen as one of my fave characters so that's why i picked her, and her and glenn powell were so fun on anyone but you so they'd make a good cresswell)
Tumblr media
winter: masali baduza (i saw her from bridgerton gifsets and she's so gorgeous literally a perfect person for most beautiful on Luna!! and i do think based on JUST how i saw her in gifsets she can act really well bc michaela was so fun)
Tumblr media
iko: keke palmer (i don't have much experience with this actress but she's talented and i saw her a little on true jackson :D)
Tumblr media
emilie: elle fanning (such a nice blonde lady with talent that's all i have to say haha)
Tumblr media
for levana i just have angelina jolie because she's a classic at playing villains like in maleficent, but i do know that cinder is asian so it makes more sense to cast people directly related to her as woc as well. for winter's mom i was thinking priyanka chopra!
i ignored the men lol like it's okay they dont matter!

oh -- so I'll talk about Avatar Mao, my first ATLA OC. I made her at the end of HS so like her backstory is supremely angsty.
She was from a nomadic tribe of combined earth and firebenders in what would now be part of the Northern Earth Kingdom, but she is a 'Fire Nation' Avatar specifically. Her entire village is murdered by a dude going around trying to consolidate power (I see him as like a Genghis Khan type), who is particularly interested in capturing HER so that he has the clout behind his claim of having the Avatar in his custody.
Mao manages to escape his clutches through the intervention of her Airbending Master, but is obviously in a very bad way emotionally etc because of what happened to her family. She's taken to the Fire Islands where she's received by one of the local Lords who also, as it turns out, is looking to gain power and influence through outreach to the Avatar in her time of need.
He wants to be next in line to succeed his father, but ALSO would like to start consolidating power in the Fire Islands.
(Thinking about it, I believe that her story would run synonymous with Sarai's in terms of time period. It's like a warring states era essentially in what will become the Fire Nation, but in addition to that others are making moves elsewhere to amalgamate land too basically).
Anyway, Mao goes through a lot because of all the warring factions that want the power of the Avatar behind them, and she kind of ends up extremely politically averse because of this. Not a great thing to be when you're the Avatar, as it happens.
I never came up with an end to her story but I think about her from time to time. I also invented Dragon-elk to be the animals that her people ride on and rely on as nomads that are basically I guess analogous to nomadic peoples from Siberia and the Mongolian steppe. yeeeeeee.
Tumblr media
Tell me about your atla oc… blease… I want to know about more of them
if you’ve already told me and you want to talk about them more then go to town!!!! reblog this or send an ask, whichever works best for you, I just want to know if there’s an atla oc community and if not then I want to help cultivate a good one!
Whether you’ve just made your oc or you haven’t thought about them in a long time or somewhere in between, I’d love to hear about them!!

Hey @namelessbutters-doodles, guess who I draw! My Tomco kid, Faye. This is a memory of Faye in her world (before it got erased) waiting for her half-sister, Peony and Atreus is keeping an eye on Faye. He know that his cousin (since Hekapoo and Rhombulus are technically siblings) is strong enough to make it back alive.
Also this is another picture of my Tomstar AU - Rose learning about how Stacey came to Underwni.

Cinder Review
Tumblr media
I was in a Barnes and Noble recently and happened upon the revamped Lunar Chronicles covers. I’ve read this series a couple times through, and I own the ebook for Cinder. However, the newest covers are so well done that I couldn’t resist buying a physical copy of the first book.
Cinder is a fairytale retelling in a futuristic world. It follows Linh Cinder, a teenage cyborg who is the the best mechanic in New Beijing, but you wouldn’t know it based on the way her stepmother treats her. Cinder finds herself drawn into royal politics and intrigue when tasked with fixing one of the royal androids, and spends much of the book grappling with questions of identity, especially as her cyborg status is a point of contention even in this futuristic society.
I flew through this book. Cinder is one of the books that I hold in high esteem in my memory, but which I don’t reread as often as I do some of my other favorites. I’m glad that I chose to do now because I’d forgotten just how fun this book is. This book is an easy but captivating read, perfect for readers aged teen and up, and its status as a Young Adult book should not deter older readers from picking it up!
Cinder by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles #1): ⭐ 10/10 ⭐
Spoilers Below!
I first read this book years ago, so my review now is based mainly on my experience of rereading it and knowing everything that is set to happen not only in this book but also in the rest of the Lunar Chronicles. That being said, I believe that the ability to reread a book and be just as engaged as you were the first time is the sign of a strongly written book. I’m not just here for the plot, of which I know most of the ins and outs. The characters that Meyer has created and shaped are a crucial factor keeping me from putting this book down.
Cinder is a charming protagonist, even if she wouldn’t agree with that description. She spends most of the book agonizing over her cyborg identity, and later the knowledge that she is Lunar. Her run-ins with Kai are constantly overshadowed by the fact that she is cyborg and he doesn’t know– there are many scenes in which she is aware of just how quickly he could discover her secret. And then later, Dr. Erland drops the bombshell of the century on her when he reveals that she is Lunar (which is nothing compared to the Princess Selene secret he’ll leave her with at the very end of the book), and Cinder is left grasping the fact that she is now an outcast in two ways. Not only is she held at arms length from the rest of society for her metal parts, but she is also a Lunar, a group hated by most on Earth– in fact, it’s illegal for her to be on Earth. The first of many laws she will break in this series, and she didn’t even have a choice in the matter!
The side characters are no less interesting than our protagonist, which further strengthens this book. Iko is the charming android whose faulty personality chip has provided Cinder with one of her only friends and, after Peony’s illness and death, her only confidante. At times, Iko even acts more like a teenage girl than Cinder does. Peony is another interesting side character as she breaks the original Cinderella myth by being kind to Cinder and one of her other close ties (Pearl, on the other hand, fully acts out the traditional role of evil stepsister). Peony’s illness does an exceptional job driving the plot forward, especially as it keeps Cinder to both Kai and Dr. Erland. Kai too is a fun character, and we see the struggle that he has in taking such a high-stakes role of responsibility at such a young age. His interactions with Cinder contrast sharply with his struggles with the Lunars, as the former plays out as a love story he may have been able to pursue had he not been shoved so quickly into the role of Emperor. It is also highly ironic that Kai likes Cinder because she feels normal, when in reality Cinder is anything but normal.
Another interesting part of Peony’s involvement in the plot is the way she is mourned for more of the book than she is an active character. Even while she is alive, the second she catches letumosis her remaining family members are resigned to her death– in fact, this is a big factor driving Adri and Cinder further apart. Following Cinder’s perspective we know she finds out that she is Lunar and may be able to help find a cure by helping Dr. Erland. Adri, on the other hand, believes that Cinder was sent away from the research labs and then ignored most of the mourning she and Pearl were doing for Peony. I know that Adri always saw the worst in Cinder anyway, and I don’t mean for this to be an argument as to why Adri’s actions were reasonable– they weren’t. However, this leads into one of the areas of interest with not only Cinder but with the rest of the series– at times, we see hints of what the rest of the world sees Cinder & co doing. Adri believes Cinder isn’t mourning Peony, and while Cinder is in jail at the end of the book we get some more snippets of what the media is making up to explain her role in everything. I wish that we got to see more of this outsider view, especially considering the enormous secret of Princess Selene that drives many of Cinder’s actions in the following books.
