I was diagnosed with ADHD at 8 years old, and have been taking medicine on and off for it ever since then. I’m not diagnosed autistic, but I am very confident that I am autistic. I bring those 2 facts up as qualification for what I’m about to say.
I have never suffered from any of my symptoms of autism in a way that makes me wish I wasn’t autistic; I can cope with the overstimulation, the hyper empathy, the meltdowns… but what I hate more than anything is my ADHD. It’s so much worse and has so much more of an impact on my life than being autistic ever has. Every time I’ve ever suffered from depression, from anxiety, from a poor relationship with food, it’s all able to be traced back to the ADHD and somewhat treated with ADHD medication. If I could be cured of one thing it would be the ADHD. And somehow, this is the disorder that’s considered “not as bad” compared to autism?? Fuck off.
