Hey, this is @paradoxical-frog. Guess who did a little fucky wucky? I broke my phone and sent out for a replacement, and now I'm on my backup phone, which I can't fucking use to log in because it has no fucking text service to get my 2FA codes from! I'm trying to get @staff to help, but until then, I'm stuck here. Fuck my life.
Anyway. Mutuals, come on in. @mcnamak @graylibrary @justaddfiction @kinofourpaws @backupstardust @pendragyn

For some reason, my asks are being sent but are vanishing once opened. When I reply to posts, it saves, and then vanishes. I'm now testing in-post tags.

I was tagged by @moondust-bard in this one!
Rules: in a new post, share the last line from your current wip, and tag as many people as there are words
-
Mother just smiled and kept walking, all conversation over.
Not as evocative as moondust's, but even though it's the last line as thing's stand, it's still only about halfway through the piece itself.
The nine people I'm going to tag are:
@korblez
@calicojackofficial
@dogmomwrites
@drumsandwaves
@pendragyn
@ceph-the-writing-spook
@aquil-writes
@coffeexafterxmidnight
@minutiaewriter
And of course, if anyone else wants to do this, feel free!

I was tagged by @aethersea and @crocwork-clockodile.
Rules: Write the latest line from your wip (or post where you last left off in your art) and tag as many people as there are words in the line. Make a new post, don’t reblog.
I’ve been holding off on replying because I’ve been working through a writer’s block big enough to see from space, but I’m going to jump on this now that I’ve finally got the drive to work on a short story:
“Help me.” It’s said through a mouthful of blood.
Baba Yaga’s iron teeth gleam in her smile. “I might.”
And tagging — deep breath — @somethingusefulfromflorida, @born-of-ravens-and-kings, @totally-not-an-awkward-okapi, @ruinconstellation, @caffeinewitchcraft, @erdariel, @pendragyn, @awkwarddesertfox, @anapocalypseofmagpies, @afoxnamedmulder, @softlytowardthesun, @madmanrambler, @richardjager, @persephinae, @ralfmaximus, @andhumanslovedstories, @fingersmudges, @skyriderwednesday, @marghen, and all the other writers and artists who want to join in and who I’ve forgotten to tag here.

People I Want to Get to Know Better
Thank you @libertyreads for tagging me!
Relationship Status: Married for nearly seven years.
Favourite Colour: All shades of green, but a medium green with a hint of olive is one of the best shades of green.
Favourite Food: Mexican and Thai are great (but not very authentic in New Zealand).
Song Stuck in My Head: It’s usually a song from an anime my husbands been watching a lot of, but today it’s a Nirvana song (not sure what it’s called, but it’s from the MTV Unplugged Album).
Last Thing I Googled: Where to buy a particular toy for my nephew (it’s his birthday this week).
Time: 10:20 pm
Dream Trip: I don’t have any places I must go visit anymore. I visited all the ones I deeply wanted to see already (Bath, England; the Pyramids, Egypt; Petra, Jordan; Palmyra, Syria). So I will happily travel anywhere - there are so many places I haven’t been yet!
Last Thing You Read: The last book I finished was Hex Appeal by Kate Johnson. There are four books I am currently reading (I never read just one book at a time!)
Last Book You Enjoyed Reading: I enjoy almost all of them! It’s very rare for me to finish a book I’m not enjoying - those books tend to be never finished as I just read other books and the one I’m not enjoying stops getting picked up. But the best book I’ve read recently would be The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna.
Favourite Thing to Cook/Bake: I make a lot of muffins because I like eating them, and I’ve noticed that this year I’ve made a lot of soups.
Favourite Craft to do in Your Freetime: I don’t do a lot of crafting, but started English Paper Piecing last year. I have to be in a fairly low-stress high energy state to do it, so it is progressing extremely slowly.
Most Niche Dislike: Smelly things. We just spent two nights away in a little vintage cottage, and had to move all the scented candles and reed diffusers outside because it was too much! (Even one would have been too much.)
Opinion on Circuses: Not for me. But Cirque du Soleil might be interesting.
Do You Have Any Sense of Direction: Fairly good, but not great. I need to be reasonably familiar with the area, or consciously creating a mental map.
Tagging with no pressure: @archetypewriter ; @mostlyghostie ; @pendragyn ; @aroaessidhe ; and you, if you’d like to participate!

Hey! Since the last anon seemingly didn't respond, I wanted to fill in some context. This person has been sending out mass asks on multiple different accounts, all only a few days old when the asks start, and each account seems to be deleted soon after. Some examples:
https://www.tumblr.com/vaspider/747516921989218304/hello-sorry-for-tagging-i-am-very-sick-my-asthma?source=share
https://www.tumblr.com/pendragyn/742945471410143232/hello-sorry-for-tagging-i-am-very-sick-my-asthma?source=share
https://www.tumblr.com/strawberryoverlord/748302976293257216/hello-sorry-for-tagging-i-am-very-sick-my-asthma?source=share
https://www.tumblr.com/achilles-patroclus-gay/750590530699804672/hello-sorry-for-tagging-i-am-very-sick-my-asthma?source=share
Generally you can test whether an ask you get is a scam just by copy pasting it into tumblr's search function, most scam bots will show tons of examples of people getting the same asks from multiple accounts. I've gotten this exact ask at least five times in the past week.
Ahh okay! Thanks so much for the context <33

she tried to make a raccoon into a pet
(I know nothing about this show or how she got her scars)
1. You're the second person to mention raccoons, which I love because they're not native to the U.K., where this character grew up.
2. This is Lucille Sharpe:
Tumblr media
Everybody say, "Hello, Lady Sharpe!" (using her first name would be far too familiar if you've just been introduced, and even though she technically doesn't get a courtesy title, it's probably best to not argue the point.) And then maybe go somewhere else, because hanging around her for too long tends to be bad for your health.
She is the primary antagonist- kind of -in Guillermo del Toro's 2015 Gothic romance movie, "Crimson Peak."
She's also a serial killer who has a codependent, incestuous relationship with her brother. He's only saved from being the OTHER primary antagonist because he has a change of heart, which she never does.
And she is my Human Garbage Fire Darling(TM), whose psyche I love to poke around in for fanfic and whose wardrobe I want to raid. I want to give her a hug, too- while wearing full-body armor, of course. She may be evil, but she’s also a Sad Bitch and I get the feeling it’s pretty exhausting to be her, mentally speaking. Abandonment issues that deep-seated, and the belief that only one person in the world can ever love you, to the exclusion of loving anyone else ever, can’t be fun.
3. The canonical answer to why she has two small scars on her face is "childhood beatings from horribly abusive parents." Just in case you were wondering.

I was tagged by @pendragyn in a fun tag game! Spell out your URL with song titles, and then tag as many people as there are letters in your URL.
I specifically waited until I got my computer fixed to do this so I could be extra and link everything and only have it take forever, not the forever and a day it would take on mobile. :p
22 is too many people to tag, so I’m not gonna do that, but if you -- like me -- enjoy most any excuse to share pieces of your music taste, have at it and feel free to say I tagged you.
S - Storm to Weather - Grace Petrie H - Hesitating Beauty - Billy Bragg and Wilco E - Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks
S - Something To Talk About - Bonnie Raitt H - Hey Julie - Fountains of Wayne A - All This And Heaven Too - Florence and the Machine L - Linger - The Cranberries L - Level Up - Vienna Teng
F - Fire Drills - Dessa R - Relax, Take It Easy - MIKA O - Once In A Very Blue Moon - Nanci Griffith M - M.T.A. - The Kingston Trio
T - This Year - The Mountain Goats I - I Know A Place - MUNA M - Me And That Train - Patty Larkin E - Emmylou - First Aid Kit
T - Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper O - Once In A Lifetime - Angélique Kidjo

lets say you had a ring that magically filled your wardrobe with the clothes and accessories you wish you could wear. these clothes magically clean themselves, are resistant to damage, fit you perfectly, and the only people who can percieve your outfit as anything but normal are the people who think it looks cool/cute/etc and will be cool about it. ppl who would be weird, impolite, or offended by it magically percieve it as just a normal outfit unless you Want them to see it. also they magically dont impede your movement or get in the way unless you want them to. what outfits would you have?
I love this ask 🤩 Honestly if I could wear anything I'd definitely have some of the most fantastical shit possible; Discworldian dwarf micromail is top of the list for sure, also sets of giant articulated wings to suit my mood, elaborate fairy dresses made of living flowers, and easily a thousand cosplay costumes ripped from my favorite media. More practically I'd always have breathable shorts so my legs don't chafe, and just be ecstatic all my favorite clothes would stay pristine (I have favs older than half the people on tumblr and they are showing their age lol) and that everything long would get automatically hemmed for my hobbit-esque proportions 😆
thanks so much for this fun ask, I enjoyed it immensely

🏝 Share your favorite description of a setting.
for the ask game :)
Thank you! Honestly, I never feel quite GOOD about writing out settings, so there are relatively few that I really LIKE, but I’m fond of this one from my 1789/Assassin’s Creed Mashup because I actually went into the game and just sat there, describing what I saw.
This is from a scene where Ronan is given a mission to meet up with a possible Templar defector at the Place des Vosges, in front of the statue of Henri IV there.
It was easy enough to get to the Place - it was hard to miss, a red-orange building with three arches at the end of a street opening up to a large park, a steady stream of bourgeois leisurely moving in and out. It was lined on all four sides with hedges that must have had people trimming them daily for how sharp their square lines were and, at each corner, there was a fountain.
 The sky overhead still threatened rain, a steady wind tossing browning leaves all over the pavement, though it didn’t stop all the people from gathering there. They weren’t far from the Bastille, but the high buildings that encased it on all sides blocked it out.
Of course the aristos wouldn’t want to think about the Bastille being nearby. Easier to turn a blind eye and enjoy their picnics this way.
He settled beside the statue at the center, leaning on the wrought iron that encased it, which he immediately regretted because he remembered that, after a good rain, metal would be wet, his sleeves being nearly soaked through. He didn’t know if it was Henri IV, but it was in the center, it was big, and only an aristo would have the kind of vanity to make something like that, anyway. Either way, given he entered from the side that faced the horse’s ass, he wasn’t sure that whoever it was had the best planning skills. Looked like some of the pigeons had the same thought, too, given there were several splotches of white on the man’s head.
Just went to show: You could spend your entire life trying to show how impressive you were, and all you got for it was for your statue to be a chamber pot for pigeons.

God I hate the cowboy cop trope more than anything, Jesus.
I used to enjoy them in fiction because obviously that’s not how you’d want irl cops to act but it can make for a fun story... but then they became the Standard and now they’re horrifying
@pendragyn reblogged your post and added:
same with Miss Marple. Even Poirot. Cops are bumbling fools at best. I wish the cozy mystery genre hadn’t been infiltrated with cop outs.
same
I find it really interesting that the popular mystery protagonists in the “golden age” of cozy mysteries, back when Christie and Sayers were writing, were pretty much never actual police. (Except for Marsh, and while Alleyn was British, his author was from New Zealand, which skews the perspective, I would think.) Like, most of the authors were relatively privileged, but still. They knew.
@servantofclio replied to your post “@shadoedseptmbr replied to your post “I mentioned on Twitter the...”
When I was a child in the 80s, the Vietnam war seemed like a very long time ago to me, but I realized it some point that it had not been -- it was recent history for all the adults around, and haunted the entire decade, I think.
same on all counts, and I really can see it around the edges when re-watching older TV shows as an adult. There’s a note of manic/desperate/relief that reminds me of stuff set in the 1920′s like, performative survival, a little? A lot less than you see in stuff set in the 20′s, (probably because it’s by accident while they were living it rather than on purpose when portraying it) but the tone’s familiar.
And yes to everything about cop procedurals. I feel like hte success of the Law and Order & CSI franchises shifted that landscape, but I'm not sure what earlier shows started it.
Yeah, I’m not quite sure when it shifted either, but L&O was definitely part of it. (I mean, there’ve been cop shows for forever, but there used to also be other things, and it’s the lack of the other things that really started shifting it from “idealized fiction” to “copaganda”.) I almost feel like the real problem wasn’t the comedies or the clearly smoothed over things like Dragnet, but the drama cop shows which make you identify with the ‘good cop in a tough situation’ because then they almost always turn into the ‘cowboy cop’ that hazel mentioned and by the time they do that you’re on their side.
It’s like. Spies. In a spy movie, the fact that they act independently and unilaterally is why they’re appealing; in anything except a spy movie, the fact that the spy can do whatever the hell they want with no consequences is clearly a problem.
We’ve got a lot of cop shows where we’re identifying with the cop getting away with whatever the hell they want... and very few other things showing us why that’s bad.

ask game 11) what are your ambitions?
I've had to really think about this, cos I don't really know that I have any as such.... It's such a strong word 'ambitions'.
There are things id like to do, like dance en pointe, but am not able to, because I have such bad feet.
There are things like getting married, having a family and buying a house that seem so far removed from reality right now that they don't seem like they will ever happen.
There are things like traveling and seeing as many shows as I can, but they rely on me having spare $.
I guess for me, my main ambition in life is to be happy, Content with what I have, And to make others around me happy. Whatever that may look like. To surround myself with loving family and friends and love them hard. ♥️
Thanks @pendragyn for making me think.

Never Surrender by Phantom Power
This scene isn’t in one of the main Star Series stories, but it is a big part of Dawn’s backstory. I associate this song with the attack on Palootha, Attara’s death, and when Dawn destroys the planet Lithuta.
