More Generals have come to join the fight. Pei Ming sees the hints of Hualian though

What if everyone in TGCF were simply a bunch of little villagers on an island? Still wouldn't stop them from fighting.

Little mini-fic for Fengqing 💜
Modern AU
Word count: 1075
TW: alcohol mention
Mu Qing crosses one leg over the other as he settles in on Hua Cheng's ridiculously comfortable loveseat. He smooths down the fabric of his pants and pretends to inspect his nails, while in actuality he's assessing the scene around him.
Shi Qingxuan is animatedly talking to He Xuan on the couch opposite from Mu Qing, her legs thrown over the man's lap as her hands move excitedly with each indecipherable word. How anyone understands her fast-paced speech is lost on Mu Qing. He Xuan gently guides Shi Qingxuan’s sandal back onto her foot where it had begun to slide off, never lifting his eyes from her face. His own face is as stony as ever, but Mu Qing sees the undeniable care in his gesture.
Xie Lian is giggling from his place on Hua Cheng's lap as they both sit in that gaudy leather wingback. Mu Qing is sure Hua Cheng had such an ugly piece of furniture custom made because there's no way something as horrid as that came from off the shelf. Hua Cheng kisses Xie Lian's cheek again and Xie Lian breaks out into a wide smile, nuzzling his nose against Hua Cheng's temple. Gag.
“Do you want anything, A-Qing?”
Ah, and there's that voice again. Mu Qing shrugs and waves off Feng Xin as the man stands nearby in the kitchen doorway.
“Whatever.” he says offhandedly, running his nails over his scalp as he pushes his hair back.
Feng Xin has made himself bartender for the night and has been back and forth between the kitchen and the living room, distributing drinks of varying colors and alcohol contents. He sighs in reply to Mu Qing and ducks back into the kitchen.
Pei Ming and Ling Wen are over by the monstrous record player in the corner, sorting through records and debating on which one to play. Pei Ming holds up a contender and wriggles his eyebrows at Ling Wen, only for her to shake her head and turn her attention back to her sorting. Pei Ming pouts and gently puts the record away, returning to helping Ling Wen sort.
Inwardly, Mu Qing sighs.
He's not sure why he comes to these parties Hua Cheng hosts. All he knows is that he's here now, a carefully constructed look of nonchalance on his face, while his heart hammers in his chest.
He and Feng Xin have been dating for three months now.
Secretly, that is.
They're taking things slow, with this being Mu Qing's first relationship and all, and it's been going really well. The only thing that's not going so well is figuring out how exactly to act around their friends.
Mu Qing wants to slowly ease their friends into the idea that he and Feng Xin could be dating, but old habits die hard and Mu Qing, especially, is struggling. The vulnerability required of him to… openly express his feelings, is gargantuan, to say the least. It took years for him and Feng Xin to even form a friendship and Mu Qing was in love with the man. Admitting those feelings to Feng Xin alone was difficult enough, he has a hard time imagining he'll ever feel comfortable letting people outside their relationship know, even if those people are their… friends.
It was Mu Qing's idea for them to start calling each other A-Xin and A-Qing, respectively. But even just that got them suspicious glances from their friends. It's been a weird situation to navigate. Mu Qing simultaneously wants to push Feng Xin away and pull him in for a kiss. It's frustrating. Ah, but they're managing. They'll drop some hints here and there, and maybe in another three months, Mu Qing might be ready to talk about it.
Feng Xin shoulders his way through the kitchen door with two fancy glasses in his hands and makes his way over to the loveseat. He stays standing as he holds one of the drinks out to Mu Qing.
“Here, try this. It's like mine but without vermouth.”
Mu Qing eyes Feng Xin warily but quickly plucks the small glass from his hand. He can hear the faint pop of carbonation and he studies the, admittedly pretty, gradient of the drink as it goes from blush red at the base to shimmery clear at the top. He swirls the drink once, then twice and brings it up to his nose. Sharp brows furrow and then raise for a moment in surprise as he lets out a soft oh. He smooths out his expression and forces his voice to come out evenly.
“It smells nice.”
In very Mu Qing fashion, Feng Xin rolls his eyes, but waits expectantly for Mu Qing to just try the damn drink already.
Mu Qing takes a tentative sip, letting it sit on his tongue for a moment before swallowing it down. His face stays still except for his eyes, which glint with satisfaction.
“That's not bad.” He admits.
Feng Xin sighs and relaxes his shoulders, a little relieved.
“Huh, well, I'll take it. That's a compliment in my book.”
“You can read?” Mu Qing asks innocently.
He touches the cool glass to his bottom lip for a moment before deciding he doesn’t want to appear too eager to have another taste. He lowers the glass only slightly and swirls it again, watching the gradient dissipate.
Feng Xin groans and crosses his arms, but the way he looks at Mu Qing is much too fond to be called a glare.
“You’re absolutely insufferable, did you know that?”
“Wow, that's a pretty big word for you-- and also,” Mu Qing can’t help it. He takes another sip of his drink, not as reserved as the first sip, and does well to mask his pleasure.
“I'd argue that you actually suffer me quite well.”
The smirk he offers too closely resembles a smile and both men realize in this moment that the room has gone silent. Everyone is staring at them.
The atmosphere of the room is thick with tension and Pei Ming, ever the chivalrous one, cuts through it with his stupid, teasing voice.
“Since when have you ever been this nice to each other? Did you two lose a bet or something?”
“Yes.” “No.”
Mu Qing and Feng Xin say simultaneously.
They both visibly bristle, their cheeks red as they each take sips of their drinks and pointedly look away from each other.
Yeah.
Things are going just great.

okay another tgcf lb i powered through and finished book 1 this is kinda long its chapters 43-57
first off i love a lil spy mission. these things never go smooth
Tumblr media
naughty unlucky trespassers get banished to the giant leech chamber
dont know that i care for the inclusion of “scary savage redskinned cannibal tribe” i mean i guess i dont know maybe its got a different cultural context but i just have a hard time with that one hmmmm at least its over quickly
this really seems to be a book of everyone already knows everyone but that makes sense considering how fucking old everyone is
Tumblr media
dope. this whole little armory stand off was fun but also oh no!!! fire in ghost city!!!
Tumblr media
awww i love him. king of not wanting anyone to die :’( also hey he did something cool!!! very competent!!! although it looks like he did get hurt from it god his bad luck never ends
Tumblr media
yeah exactly!!!!! sword in one hand flower in the other!!! thats what its all about!!!!
Tumblr media
mmmmmmm. MMMMMMMMMM. rich fuckers. but also feng xin was the first to show up either way.... im still care him. followed by mu qing who is talking trash but still here as well
also i might back what i said about lang qianqiu im not sure if he knows anything i think he is just like that. although theres still room for him to be involved something. im switching most of my suspicions to wind master qingxuan now because he is popular and rich
Tumblr media
okay if im reading this right this seems pretty in character for lang qianqiu. “i dont like that your family is in power.” “haha what a silly guy :) i have no concerns about you”
but xie lian is admitting to this??? :O curious to find out more about if he did indeed do some slaughter or if he’s protecting someone else. if he is protecting someone i think it could be lang qianqiu himself in some way. genuinely unsure tho he may very well have just done this idk who am i to deny him complexity
theres that interesting little note that most officials have also committed similar crimes but never have to face it bc mortals just die
Tumblr media
pei ming you’re half right but shut the fuck up no one asked you. i feel strong dislike towards him sorry to any potential pei ming stans reading this. maybe im sorry maybe not im not sure yet i feel strongly about this
Tumblr media
i see this happen on cdramas all the time i love it. i point at you in lieu of words
i do think all the politics and gossip and the way that officials will change sides to gain favor/not lose it depending on which way the wind is blowing is pretty interesting i like that its in here
Tumblr media
i love that xie lian is making sure that someone takes care of the people hes taken in and also i love everything about this sentence although i feel like we’re not going to see much of banyue which is a shame bc i liked her
oh is it flashback time? this is fun
Tumblr media
hmm!!! interesting!!! i like this response!! i have nothing funny or smart to say about it i just like it
Tumblr media
this is an understanding that only comes after living through great pain and/or loss. hmm.
Tumblr media
hmmm!!!!!!!! questions!!! presumably thematic ones!!!
Tumblr media
please let us dig into whatever is going on in this little trio. actions speak louder than words mu qing
okay here we go feng xin is here and im not going to screencap the whole thiing but wow these two see each other and half a page later start swinging okay
oh my god hua cheng giving us a jailbreak arc? instant chaos. amazing
Tumblr media
scream everything about this is funny. maximum cunt behavior. everyones reaction fadsjflksdjlk;afsl
Tumblr media
mxtx: all characters other than hualian are straight mxtx: the thing feng xin is most afraid of is a women’s bath also women in general he is afraid of them fajkdjskfslda i mean there could be other reasons for this but its very funny in that context
Tumblr media
stop theyre too much faslfkjasdf im so glad we’re getting this
im not 100% sure how i feel about these swords that. moan? hmm.
Tumblr media
xie lian king of speaking out against stan culture. for real tho i feel like this makes sense with how young he was when he ascended and how much favor he gained only to be banished, as well as with how gods have to be what the people say that they are. this is made interesting bc xie lian is quite literally a god but this is still an issue!!
Tumblr media
this is more less what im currently envisioning on our little side trek except qi rong's vibes are so rancid im retching from behind the screen and im not getting to watch any little creatures dance so its objectively a worse time but at least xie lian is there
Tumblr media
reading this book full of immortals beat the shit out of each other is like watching looney toons
Tumblr media
hua cheng is relentless. also THE DRAMA. lang qianqiu youre back on the list!!! although i doubt any of this will be straightforward also i feel like im playing among us rn im dizzy
Tumblr media
hes awful and probably irredeemably so but hes also funny. imagine being qi rong youre just vibing rancidly in your cave and some fucker shows up using the name of a prince from 800 years ago and turns out its hua cheng and he slams your head into the floor over and dribbles it like a basketball until you lay the blame for said princes death and turns out that fucker youre blaming is also here and just as youre getting into it with him this other fucker says that youre lying and turns out its your cousin. wyd
Tumblr media
YES. CHOMPING AND VIOLENCE
bruh they melted qi rong
oh its a clone. okay. aww kind of sad that he once looked up to xie lian. maybe some sympathy for going mad. oh wait actually he was a spoiled and pampered prince? sympathy depleted again. tis a waste but. alas
wind master just told xie lian that he was lucky to have befriended hua cheng... and xie lian agreed.... interesting interesting
Tumblr media
noting that those two are notorious for clashing and yet jun wun is making them work together
i actually got teary at xie lian talking to his parents coffins and wondering for a second if he heard his mom. god. 800 years... :(
QI RONG IM GOING TO FIND YOUR ASHES MYSELF WTF this whole situation with the child sucks :/
oh my god thats where it ends??? wowie. okay damn i was going to take a break after i finished book one but god thats tempting

There was a sharp giggle as Shanyao nibbled on him, smiling in amusement and indulging his naughty behaviour and covering his mouth politely to muffle the noise, finding it oddly ticklish. The former wind master sat up straighter when the door suddenly burst open, put on edge, but relaxed visibly when he noticed He Xuan seemed to bear them no mind.
He was far too social to resist complimenting a few of them on either their hair or what he found to be cute accessories, naturally bubbly and wanting to show his appreciation. He helped himself to the delicious looking meal once the wave of servants had left, pausing mid-bite when He Xuan suddenly spoke up. He set the food back down with an air of conflict, and his face became serious. “He Xuan. Pei shushu will be fine, I am where I wish to be.” He smoothed out his clothes as he struggled to put his feelings to words.
“The situation was not ideal, but my actions were my own. It seems I have had even less control over my existance than I thought, please don’t take that decision from me… or this one.” He returned to his dish, picking at it idly as he worked up the courage to say what was needed. “Unless being in my presence is too painful for you, I-I would prefer to stay by your side. I’m done with the heavenly realm and its nonsense for now.” Why was he always so oblivious to his feelings for him? It had been the same for all those years as Ming Yi. Was he cursed to live in his brother’s shadow even with his own romance? Did He Xuan hate Shi Wudu even more than he love Shi Qingxuan?
A salty taste entered his mouth and he realized he had bitten his lip in frustration until it bled.
Xie Lian slowly turned his head as his eyes panned across the grandiose room, taking in every detail. Could this even be considered an upgrade? “San Lang… has really outdone himself.” His eyes fell on the closest new member of the armoury, practically rushing over to it and trailing his fingers over the gem encrusted hilt deftly with a fond sigh. He laughed sheepishly, realizing how vocal he had been and blushed a little. “This armoury is truly wonderous, a Marital god’s dream.” He admitted, turning to face him and digging into his sleeves. “You are very observant, I do prefer porridge. Thank you, for… everything.”
He was slowly starting to catch on to his relationship with Black Water, finding it endearing but not daring to mention it. “That is a very generous trade indeed,” he chuckled, grabbing his palm lightly and setting the bun in it. “My payment.”
Turbulent Tides
Characters: Shi Qingxuan, He Xuan Secondary: Xie Lian, Hua Cheng Timeframe: Black Water arc, canon-divergent AU @windmasterreturns @ellysfir @puqiprayerservice @mothboxhuacheng
Mere moments ago there was so much clamour shaking the stiff air of Nether Water Manor the eager cries of those madmen, the bickering between the brothers and his own rage. It was dissonant and loud, even they had to shout to be heard above skirl surrounding them. If not for the location of the domain even the stormy waters outside would not have kept them hidden.
It wasn’t the sudden swirl of rage not his own that silenced those madmen.
It was the sound of Shi Wudu’s head rolling across the floor.
He Xuan seemed startled in his absolute lack of reaction. He moved his head and eyes only enough to follow the path the falling body took as it collapsed to the floor, delayed, as if it still had the means to remain on its knees by itself. He watched for a long while in his own silence, unmoving, features blank and confused.
When He Xuan gathered enough wit about himself to move the steps he took were slow and heavy, the sharp click of his heel echoing through the still silent manor. It was nothing like the way he’d moved before as he approached Shi Qingxuan a last time, unconcerned that he dragged his long robes through the quickly spreading pool of blood. He came to crouch at the former Wind Master’s side, cold, slender fingers gathering one arm at a time to free him from the shackles with a feather-light touch.
The sound of metal scraping against stone seemed to snap him out of his stupor and he withdrew quickly, reality flooding back in, washing away the numbness. He swept backwards, drawing himself upright with an unsteady sway, thin, wispy fabric following each sharp movement light as fog. He stood there silently, partly twisted, his eyes elsewhere out in the emptiness of the room, unfocused and intense with his hands tightly curled into the fabric at his sides.
All at once there was so much going on in his head, a different sort of turmoil than the anger and anguish from earlier.
Most prominently, he was still here. The option had been presented as an impossible path, and the death of Shi Wudu hadn’t released him.
What was he supposed to do now?
His mind was silent save his own racing thoughts, and he knew that meant Hua Cheng expected the same outcome he had and he didn’t dare reach out to him first.
