Jakarta Fashion Week 2016 Highlights

Indonesia might be known for its cultural diversity thanks to the 34 provinces that exists in the nation. However, from October 24 to October 30, a number of Indonesian fashion designers got together under one tent to showcase their talents in the effort to place Jakarta, Indonesia, as one of Asia’s fashion capital.

This year marks the fifth time Jakarta Fashion Week is being held to help emerging local talents in the fashion industry to gain the proper media exposure. Standing in the grounds of one of Jakarta’s mega-mall, Senayan City, Jakarta Fashion Week generates its highest foot traffic this year that will be filled with Indonesia’s finest fashion crowds.

Over the course of the one-week event, a total of 70 fashion shows are being presented to showcase the talents from more than 200 local designers. Three notable Indonesian fashion designers that deserved to be put on the spotlight under Jakarta’s one-week event of glitz and glamor are Todjo by Sapto Djojokartiko, Albert Yanuar, and Peggy Hartanto.

Todjo by Sapto Djojokartiko 

Sapto Djojokartiko presented a collection of relaxed separates from his emerging secondary line called Todjo. Shades of blue roamed through the catwalks with loose fabrications that accentuate the fluidity of women’s body movements. It is evident that Todjo’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection appeals to women in their early 20s to 30s who want to look refined and sensual at the same time.

Albert Yanuar

Albert Yanuar on the other hand, relied on the vibrancy of white colors that instantly gives off the ethereal look of purity in women. Each look that Yanuar presented came in pure white with lines and motifs that were inspired by the wings of a butterfly.

Peggy Hartanto

Peggy Hartanto, who is widely known in Indonesia as the curator of sheer paneling and master of motifs showcased her Spring/Summer 2016 collection in vibrant colors such as electric blue and poppy red, in addition to white and black colors. The poppy red colors were used as motifs that added the sensuality to her sleeveless flare dress and figure-flattering dress with pleats.
