ACT II: COWBOY CARTER by Beyoncé
Yee-bloody-haw!
It’s a Country & Western inspired New Music roundup this week, so it only makes sense to begin with one of the biggest album releases of the year thus far – COWBOY CARTER by Beyoncé.
I’ll be the first to admit that when ACT I: RENAISSANCE was cleaning up with the year-end awards amongst most music critics in 2022, I wasn’t as impressed. Whilst it was a fun project and certainly had its moments, I personally thought it failed to live up to its predecessor, B’s confessional masterpiece Lemonade. I also thought there were much better records released in 2022, to the point that RENAISSANCE didn’t even make my own Top 50. However, when I heard Queen B was following up her House and Dance-inspired record with a Country album, I was instantly intrigued.
Daddy Lessons off Lemonade had previously given us a taste of what a Beyoncé-Goes-Country track could sound like, but there’s a big difference between delivering one moment within an eclectic, genre-hopping rollercoaster and sustaining a whole album in that style. Even more so when that album is 27 tracks and 78 minutes long! But having seen very some positive reviews and my intrigue only heightening as a result, I dove into this one with the expectation that it would be another overhyped project – I was wrong. Whilst I wasn’t onboard with RENAISSANCE, I absolutely am with COWBOY CARTER.
Firstly, if the track length on this one is putting you off, don’t let that be the case. This album is such a fun, joyous time, that the 78-minute runtime just flies along. The album is also structured almost like a show you’d find on a Country Music radio station, with the legendary Willie Nelson himself guiding you through the “SMOKE HOUR”, with these interludes helping to keep the pace ticking along swiftly.
Most importantly though, the album is simply littered with stand-out moments from beginning to end. Singles 16 CARRIAGES and TEXAS HOLD ‘EM still sound great, but it’s the album tracks where the album really comes alive, with the likes of BODYGUARD, AMERIICAN REQUIEM, DAUGHTER and RIIVERDANCE blending elements of pop, soul and R&B seamlessly with the sounds of B’s Louisiana roots. There’s two instantly iconic covers as well that Beyoncé makes her own, turning The Beatles’ BLACKBIIRD into an empowering gospel anthem whilst switching the lyrics up on Dolly Parton’s JOLENE to reference Jay-Z’s infidelity – which also happens to include a blessing from Parton herself. To top it off, there’s also a bunch of interesting and worthwhile collaborations too, including country music heroes Linda Martell and Willie Jones, along with contemporary crossover popstars Miley Cyrus and Post Malone.
Overall, COWBOY CARTER is an album I’ve enjoyed much more than I was expecting to, so much so that I find myself returning to it fairly frequently. If you’re also feeling sceptical but slightly intrigued, I promise it is worth a spin. A really fun record filled with heart, soul, fascinating collabs and Beyoncé’s ever incredible vocal and genre gymnastics. Bring on ACT III!

Bright Future by Adrianne Lenker
From Country to Folk now, with Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker donning her best Cowboy hat for the album cover to her latest solo outing, Bright Future. Whilst I can sometimes find Big Thief’s output easy to admire but hard to love, this one hit me in the gut straight away. Raw and impactful, it’s a collection of tracks where each song feels more emotionally devastating than the last.
Not only that but these are songs that feel instantly classic, with Lenker’s heartfelt songwriting radiating out of the music. The string-tinged melancholy of Sadness As A Gift is a big early highlight, whilst the lo-fi energy of Vampire Empire, heart-shattering piano ballad Evol and acoustic lament Candleflame all leave a strong lasting impression too, all in very different ways. Such is the emotional heft wrapped in these songs, by the time you reach gorgeous closing track Ruined, it’s likely you’ll be just that!
Whilst this is an album you have to be in the right mood for as it can be a hard listen at times, if it catches you in that opportune moment then the rewards are unparallelled to anything else released so far this year. Without a doubt, one of the best, most beautiful records of 2024 yet.

Tigers Blood by Waxahatchee
When Katie Crutchfield, AKA Waxahatchee, released her sobriety-seeking fifth studio album Saint Cloud at the height of the COVID-pandemic in March 2020, she couldn’t have imagined the impact it would generate. Here was an album brimming with emotional turmoil, at a time when the world was dealing with just that. As a result, it was the perfect album for the perfect time, steering Saint Cloud towards a spot on many year-end lists and Waxahatachee gaining plenty of new fans to boot. 4 years on, and Tigers Blood finds Katie Crutchfield looking to recapture the magic of that record with another collection of country-infused indie and Southern rock jams. And just like its predecessor, I’m pleased to say its chock-full of outstanding cuts.
From the uplifting stomp of opener 3 Sisters, the bluesy riffs of Ice Cold to the brilliantly laid-back, MJ Lenderman-featuring single Right Back To It, you’ll find yourself wrapped up in the warming sounds straight away. However, it is the even more stripped-back second half where the strength of Katie’s raw, honest songwriting really shines through, with Crimes of the Heart, 365, The Wolves and the closing title track all hitting hard.
Whilst I can see some people being left lukewarm by this one coming off the back of Saint Cloud, for me personally I think I’m enjoying Tigers Blood possibly even more than that record. Whilst it still has the traditional melodies and relatable lyrics, it feels like Katie has stepped things up once again with her songcraft. Either way, this is another superb collection that I suspect will see her return to the year-end lists come December.

All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade by The Libertines
Whilst they were a big part of my teens, I’ll be honest I had minimal enthusiasm when it came to hearing a new Libertines album in 2024. Whilst Carl Barât and Pete Doherty had previously reunited almost ten years ago on Anthems For Doomed Youth, it sadly sounded like two musicians trying desperately to recapture a long lost formula, at a time when indie landfill was hitting maximum capacity. However following a couple of decent singles, I decided to let nostalgia take over and give the quartet the benefit of the doubt, spinning this album with a completely open mind. What I found was an album that defied all my expectations, with The Libertines arguably sounding even more urgent now in 2024 than they did back in the early noughties.
With their ever-present Likely Lads charm, Barât and Doherty turn their pen onto the current state of Britain, through both politics and people. Their music is also richer and more textured than ever before, with their traditional indie sound bolstered by dramatic brass arrangements, sweeping strings and theatrical production. It all comes together to form arguably their strongest record to date, a dazzling 38-minute listen where the band sound more focussed, more interesting and generally just having much more to say.
It’s also got some of their very best songs to date, from singles Run Run Run, Night of the Hunter and Shiver to the raucous look at the Ukraine War on I Have A Friend and the jazz-infused Baron’s Claw. However, the album’s crown jewel is without a doubt Merry Old England, a powerful, orchestral ode to migrants coming to the UK that is as impactful as it richly textured, both sonically and lyrically.
This has been one of the biggest surprises of the year so far for me, an album I was never expecting to love as much as I do. My hat is well and truly tipped to Carl, Pete, Gary and John, who prove they are more than an old indie act trying to relive past glories. Whilst the nostalgia of the early records will always have a hold over their die-hard fans, there’s no doubt that if they look beyond rose-tinted glasses, they’ll see this is objectively their finest work to date.

The Sunset Violent by Mount Kimbie
One of my most played albums of April thus far, Mount Kimbie recently returned with their first studio album in seven years, bringing with them a new line-up and a new sound. Back this time as a quartet rather than a duo, The Sunset Violent sees the usually electronic outfit dive into a more indie/alternative sound to great effect. With King Krule also showing up to guest on a couple of tracks, it’s a gorgeous 36-minute listen seemingly destined to soundtrack warm and hazy summer evenings. There’s plenty of highlights too, with Shipwreck, Fishbrain and Yukka Tree all utter bliss.

Incommunicado EP by Express Office Portico
A bittersweet release this, as Notts indie-pop outfit Express Office Portico finally released their debut EP at the end of March. However, the release of the project also coincided with the news that lead singer Tara would be stepping down from the band. A huge loss who leaves big shoes to fill, Incommunicado thankfully manages to work as both a final chapter for the band at this stage, as well as an insight into their flourishing potential. Featuring five catchy and shimmering indie-pop grooves, its highlighted by No One, In Swim and excellent recent single He Said She Said.

Field Theory by Melts
“Dublin psych-rockers MELTS are one of those bands that very much live up to their name. With the quartet binding together after leaving various dissolved bands, MELTS’ 2022 debut ‘Maelstrom’ was a bold mission statement for their kaleidoscopic, mind-altering sound. Landing them somewhere in the venn diagram of contemporaries such as The Horrors, Working Men’s Club and Nation of Language, while still very much forming their own identity, it was an impressive first outing that left fans eager for the next chapter. Now back with their sophomore effort ‘Field Theory’, it’s no surprise to hear MELTS mostly stick with their winning formula for album number two. Overall, this is another hugely impressive release from MELTS and one that expands the fluorescent sonic world that was laid out on their debut. You also can’t help but feel that these songs on ‘Field Theory’ are built to thrive even more in a live setting, with the Dublin outfit assuredly building a catalogue of soaring, mind-melting compositions that just scream to be experienced in-person. Due to hit the road at the end of the month, those joining MELTS at these shows be pleasantly warned – you may just have your senses steamrolled.”

Tracks of the Week
1+1 = 11 by Peggy Gou
For years, DJ/Producer Peggy Gou has been Queen of the Summer banger, releasing just one single every year to ensure an all hits, no misses ratio. From Starry Night and I Go to last summer’s monster hit (It Goes Like) Nanana, she’s been unstoppable. So, with the news that her debut album I Hear You will finally drop this June, my expectations are already sky high for the 10 tracks that I’m hoping will soundtrack Summer 2024.
Coinciding with the news is her latest single offering 1+1 = 11, the song which will close out her upcoming debut. With shades of York classic On The Beach, it comes accompanied by a dazzling video starring artist Olafur Eliasson breakdancing inside a light installation at his studio in Berlin. Check it out!

B2b / Von Dutch / Club Classics by Charli XCX
The biggest album announcement of the past few weeks, electro-pop phenomenon Charli XCX will be releasing her new club-inspired album Brat this June and then touring UK arenas at the end of the year. Coming off the back of her instantly iconic Boiler Room set, the three singles so far suggest big inspiration from the dance and electronic music scene and I personally can’t wait for it.
Listen here
House by London Grammar
Another big album announcement, indie-pop outfit London Grammar have finally announced the follow-up to 2021’s Californian Soil will drop in September, titled The Greatest Love. That record saw the band explore more electronic territory and if lead single / opening track House is anything to go by, it seems they will be building out that sound further on this upcoming effort.
Listen here
Curse by Architects
The metal world was shocked earlier on this year when Bring Me The Horizon announced back in January that longtime band composer Jordan Fish was leaving the band. Since then fans were left wondering where he would end up and but it seems he has wasted little time moving on, already producing several tracks for other genre heavyweights. The latest is this thunderous new single from Architects, which boasts polished production and an instantly anthemic chorus.

Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts by The Gaslight Anthem
Back in 2008, rock heroes The Gaslight Anthem released their much beloved Señor and the Queen EP, with this song the closing track for the project. Now as part of their History Books (Short Stories) EP that was released to coincide with their recent UK tour, they’ve reworked the song so that it sounds even better than it did before – just gorgeous.

How Can I Love Her More? By The Lemon Twigs
With anticipation for the D'Addario brother’s follow-up to their highly acclaimed 2023 album Everything Harmony steadily mounting, each new single release suggests another special project is on the way. Now this latest cut to be taken from A Dream Is All We Know (which drops in May) only hypes things further, an instantly timeless tune that draws heavy comparisons to The Beach Boys. Wonderful!
Listen here
Red Holiday by Dura Mater
And finally fast-rising Notts 8-piece Dura Mater, who draw comparisons to bands like Black Country New Road, Arcade Fire and Opus Kink, released their second single Red Holiday this past week, which is taken from their forthcoming Arable Ground EP that drops at the end of May. This latest single, which is inspired by coastal living, showcases their potential, bringing together ghostly vocals, ambient guitars and powerful orchestration.

Hi! Your "talking about wheelchair blues" post made me curious if you know any disabled folk singers?
Yea, there are actually tons!
in the early blues, there were many blind artists.
Blind Blake (1896-1934) Blind Willie Johnson (1897-1945) Blind Lemon Jefferson (1893-1929) Blind Willie McTell (1898-1959) Bo Carter (1893-1964) Sleepy John Estes (1899-1977) Blind Boy Fuller (1907-1941) Cortelia Clark (1906-1969) Rev. Gary Davis (1896-1972) Roosevelt Graves (1909-1962) Sonny Terry (1911-1986)
there's also cisco houston, whose eyesight was so poor that it rendered him legally blind by the end of his life.
and then, of course, there was woody guthrie who suffered from Huntingtons disease.
A LOT of traditional folk singers were disabled but that fact about them was not mentioned or only mentioned as an afterthought, or it isn't considered a disability. it would be very hard to compile all of these people.
and, as classic artists like pete and peggy got and get older, they both talked more about disability rights and how they affect them, peggy seeger is 89 currently and still making music. both she and Pete have either performed songs like disability in solidarity with disabled people or made music about how being disabled relates to them.
THEN, there's the Disabled In Action (DIA) singers. much like the Freedom Singers of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the Disabled in Action singers were a musical group that made and covered songs that were about disability rights and disability made upof members with from the DIA organization. the DIA is a grassroots civil rights organization focused on ending discrimination against Disabled people, founded in 1970, in NYC.
the folks of the Disabled in Action Singers were not very well known, and the only one who was, was Sis Cunningham, who joined the group in her eighties.
Tumblr media
luckily for us ! they have all their recordings available on their website.
here's some fun live performances i found as well of songs either by the DIA singers or by other people about disability
youtube
youtube
There is definitely more and I'll reblog this whenever I find more disabled folk artists. if anyone knows any contemporary disabled folk artists feel free to reblog this as well. I know that people in the folk-punk scene have been making music about disability.

The First Avenger || An MCU Series
Chapter 2: The Barnes Residence
Tumblr media
STEVE ROGERS x OC
Summary: Steve and Eden Rogers and Kaz and Bucky Barnes have all been practically inseparable since they were born. When it comes time for Bucky and his sister Kaz to be deployed, Steve and Eden try to find their own way to help the warfare. A few months after they arrive at their base camp, HYDRA launches a surprise attack on the 107th infantry. The infantry Kaz and Bucky are in. Steve must rescue his two closest friends with his sister at his side. But what are the lasting effects of the HYDRA attack, and will their life ever go back to normal after it?
Warnings: mentions of traumatic events, bad writing, strong language, lmk if there's others I should put.
Characters: Kaz Barnes (OC), Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Eden Rogers (OC), Peggy Carter, Johann Schmidt, Howard Stark
A/N: This is based off my desired reality so it mostly revolves around me but lolll enjoy anyways.
Parts: Chapter 1: The Future
The group walked back to the Barnes's house silently. Steve and Eden had agreed to stay the night. It was a comfortable silence, but maybe it was because they felt like the more they talked, the faster the night would pass. Eden and Kaz walked hand in hand; it was a habit they had picked up over the years.
It started when Kaz and Bucky's father died. Eden took Kaz's hand in hers at the funeral and squeezed, and that was that. Every time either Eden or Kaz felt sad or lonely, it was an automatic reaction to grasp the other's hand.
And so the four friends turned into the alley that led to Kaz and Bucky's house, the two boys in front and the girls following behind. Bucky jingled his keys, unlocking and opening the door and holding it open for the other three. When Eden walked through the door, she sighed, taking in the familiar scent of her second home. It smelled faintly of lemons and sandalwood, clean laundry, and the scent of breakfast from the morning. It wasn't an overwhelming smell, more comforting than anything else.
Eden turned to Kaz who was looking wistfully at the long hallways that held her and Bucky's bedrooms.
"It's getting pretty late, should we start to head to bed?" Bucky asked.
"Sure, I'll take the couch," Steve said, walking to the maroon sofa that had blankets and pillows strewn across it from a couple of days ago. He kicked off his shoes and sat, well, more threw himself onto the sofa. Kaz followed suit, copying Steve's exact actions, and laid across the sofa, her head on Steve's bony lap. Eden couldn't imagine it was comfortable, but Steve and Kaz were as close as Eden and Bucky were. It was more of a closeness thing than a comfort thing.
Eden took to the kitchen, not even giving a second thought to opening the cabinet to find something to eat.
"There's not much right now." Eden nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard Bucky's voice.
"Tell me about it," Eden said, holding up a box of stale crackers that had probably been there for months, maybe years.
"What was that?" Bucky asked suddenly. Eden raised her eyebrows and held up the box.
"Crackers?"
"No, the thing with that Stark guy at the expo, what was that?" He said, leaning against the tiled counter with one hand.
"Just wanted to have a little fun before the world starts to end," Eden shrugged. Bucky scoffed.
"Fun." He repeated. Eden narrowed her eyes.
"Yeah, you got a problem with that?" Bucky looked like he had to think about his answer before he said anything. Unfortunately for him, Kaz walked into the kitchen, a yawn plastered on her face.
"Too bad we couldn't get anything at the expo, everything here is dog shit," She said, opening the cabinet next to Eden. Eden and Bucky held each other's gaze for a moment longer.
"Jesus, you could cut the tension in here with a knife," Kaz said. "Bucky, why don't you find a pillow or something and put your face on it. You look awful, and you need rest for tomorrow."
Bucky opened his mouth to object, but didn't. He turned on his heel and left the kitchen.
"Okay, what was that?" Kaz asked Eden, putting the box of crackers Eden was holding back into the cabinet.
"He was upset about my..." Eden searched for the right word. "Adventure tonight." Kaz scoffed. It was a sound nearly identical to Bucky's.
"Please. He just wishes it was him instead of Stark." Eden's eyes widened.
"What?" She squeaked. "No, he's probably just being protective." Kaz raised her eyebrows.
"Uh huh." Eden smacked Kaz in the arm, but the blush on her cheeks countered her actions. "C'mon, we'd better get to bed. We don't have any good food anyway. Might as well get good sleep."

“I’m gonna need you to calm your ass, Barnes,” Sam said as he went limp again, obstructing Barnes’s struggling under him. “This is so undignified. That is Captain goddamn America.”

avengeclintasha's fic masterpost
I've finally done it and created a fic master post for everything I've written all in one place!
These are sorted by paring/fandom.Each also has a mini blurb about it. Some of them are a part of series and that's noted in their descriptions with the word counts.
full list below the cut and more to come soon :)
Wheel of Time (Moiraine Damodred/Siuan Sanche)
Research Methods (in more ways than one) (words: 23,100/part 1 of fishwives take on academia): “I think they’re onto us.” “You think that about all the students every year.” (five times the dragon reborn kids think Siuan and Moiraine are together and one time they find out if they’re right)
come home to you (words: 1,111/part 2 of fishwives take on academia): Moraine comes home to find Siuan cooking dinner after a long day at work. They enjoy their night together. (or a prequel/sequel to research methods but can be read as a stand alone)
Pivotal Discoveries (in more ways than one) (words: ??/part 3 of fishwives take on academia) **in progress and updating now!** : There’s a soft moment where Moiraine realizes Siuan has built a place in her life and in Lan’s. And she knows in that moment, she never wants it to change. (or six pivotal moments in Siuan and Moiraine’s lives as they go from friends to lovers and an epilogue for good measure)
tea for your thoughts? (words: 3,460): “It must be a bad day.” “What makes you say that?” “You order our mint tea when it’s a good day and when you’re having a bad day you order the lemon and ginger.” (or Moiraine experiences gay panic when she realizes she’s in love with Siuan)
The Nature of the Job (words: 752): “Do you ever think of not throwing yourself into danger?” (or Moiraine gets injured and Siuan takes care of her)
Agent Carter and Captain America (Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers)
Support System (words: 13,548): Steve Rogers has been a single parent since he moved into his house just a few blocks from his mother and he’s made friends with his neighbors. So, when Peggy Carter moves in across the street, they bond over being single parents and form a support system, of sorts. (or a single parents modern AU set in four seasons)
and i’ve always been a daughter (words: 2,388): Their kids are all grown up and out of the house, so when it's after nine and there's a knock on their door, Peggy expects the worst. Instead, she's met with her oldest daughter with tears in her eyes, still in her work clothes (or Sarah comes drives to her parents house after a bad day at work and Peggy and Steve make it better)
keep my eyes open so you could get some rest (words: 2,656): To say that Steve Rogers was sick would have been incorrect. (or Steve isn’t feeling like himself and Peggy takes care of him)
Madame President (words: 3,838): “Madame Secretary, you’ve been chosen as tonight’s designated survivor.” “What’s a designated survivor?” (or a retelling of the show designated survivor where Peggy Carter becomes president)
Beautiful Like Your Mother (words: 2,150): When Sarah Carter-Rogers gets detention, she doesn’t want to tell her parents what happened in the slightest. She locks herself in her room, and refuses to talk about it. (or Steve points out that Sarah and Peggy are more alike than she thinks)
My Best Girl (words: 3,383): “What would Cap say if I left his best girl behind?” “He would say, ‘do as Peggy says.” (or the origin of both “my best girl” and “do as Peggy says.”)
Promise You’ll Smile Off a Memory (words: 1,665): Steve comes home late to find Peggy still awake, and they reminisce over basic camp training. (or what it says on the tin)
pull me tight and close your eyes (words: 3,653): Steve comes home from a mission worse for the ware and Peggy takes care of him (or years after Peggy and Steve are recovered in the Valkyrie crash, Steve has a flashback)
i’ve got a living room floor (and i got it deep down in my soul) (words: 9,698): Though Peggy Carter doesn’t realize it, some of the most significant moments of her life have occurred in the living room, most on the floor. (or a series of moments in Peggy’s life told in three parts)
i might look a bit older now (but i’m still the same kid i’ve always been) (words: 2,765): Even though Sarah Carter-Rogers is older now, there are still nightmares that plague her, and her parents are still there to comfort her. (or a two shot of Peggy and Steve taking care of Sarah as a kid and in her teens)
Power and Compassion (words: 45,316): “It’s really thought provoking, isn’t it?” Peggy looked up from the sculpture. Her eyes met those of a man who's eyes were the brightest blue and his dirty blonde hair was combed back perfectly. “Yes, it really is quite something." (or Peggy Carter is a pre-law student at SHIELD University, and Steve is a history major with a passion for art)
Peggy’s Orders (words: 3,585): “You can’t give me orders!” “Hell I can’t, I’m a captain!” (or five times Peggy gives Steve orders and one time he gives orders to her.)
25 Days of Christmas (words: 13,743): A Christmas One-Shot Collection about Steve, Peggy, their cute kids, and a bunch of other cool characters around Christmas time. (or what it says on the tin)
Slow (words: 4,759): A mini collection of modern Steggy one-shots. (or what it says on the tin)
a mighty ocean or a gentle kiss (words 8,086/part 1 of without a single string attached): Starting out set in New York, 2021 and Toronto, 2011: Peggy and Steve both experience life altering events and help to take care of each other across contents and timelines (or a two timeline modern/no powers AU about grief and falling in love with your best friend)
I will love you without any strings attached (words: 8,760/part 2 of without a single string attached): Set in 2010 and 2023: Peggy and Steve go to a high school dance together and they also get married  (or a sequel to a mighty ocean or a gentle kiss about high school dances and weddings, set in two timelines)
Agent Carter/Captain America/Agents of SHIELD (Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers)
and the sun won’t resign until you’re by my side (words: 2,967): Daisy finds Steve in the gym. Peggy’d gone on many missions without him, and when she comes to train in the mornings, she shouldn’t be surprised to see him at the punching bag—and one already on the floor (or five times Steve misses Peggy more than he thinks featuring the OG AOS cast)
Hold My Hands When They’re Shaking, Run Your Fingers Through My Hair (words: 2,278): After a long mission with a few ups and downs, all Steve wants is to be home because missions are exhausting, even when he gets to go on them with Peggy. (or another fluffy AOS/Steggy/Strike Team Delta crossover)
A Place to Call Home (words: 2,595): After the Triskelion is gone and the hellicarriers are dead in the water, Coulson’s team is given coordinates to go to by Nick Fury. It’s only after they land that they realize they’re not the only agents Fury gave these coordinates too. (or an Agents of SHIELD/CATWS/De-Aged Peggy Carter/Strike Team Delta crossover set at the end of AOS season 1)
You’ll Know Peace When You Hear It (words: 2,616): Sarah Carter-Rogers hated when her parents went away. She couldn’t understand why on earth they had to leave all the time, but they did, and Sarah missed them a lot. (or Peggy comes back from a mission injured and Sarah worries, Steve tries to help as best he can)
Thank you to everyone who reads my fics! I appreciate all of you :)
You can find me on AO3 @/avengeclintasha as well where all of these are posted!

Tumblr media
The ice had knocked something loose. It had done the same to Steve – changing him in a way no one expected and everyone tried to hide.
Each request to interview either of them – either half of the World War Two star-crossed lovers who were bound by ice so thick many were sure no one or thing would be able to get them out - was turned down in the politest way Stark Industries’ PR team knew how.
Oh, they’re on a top-secret mission. Oh, they’re tired from a top-secret mission. Oh, they’re doing something confidential.
When Peggy was found, it had become glaringly obvious she would need what they had gotten Steve the second he could stand – a distraction.
They had found you the easy way. You were one of the poor kids Stark had hand-picked from the thick stack of intern applications that didn’t make the cut for the real job.
He framed the alternative job offer as being an “assistant.” Peggy just needed someone to help her, he said in an email. Not much work, with free, required room and board.
To you, a broke recent college graduate with student loans and nowhere to turn, it was the opportunity of a lifetime.
You showed up to the first day in thick leggings, thicker sweater, and a simply adorable button-up underneath. Stark nearly cooed when he saw you – patting himself on the back for picking the perfect person for his friends…unique needs.
Stark was grinning when you stepped through the door and, though seemingly overly enthusiastic, you chalked it up to him wanting to meet you.
You followed him diligently throughout Stark Tower as he explained to you your duties – to make Peggy remained fed and ate and kept her apartment clean and dressed herself.
You blushed at the last one, but continue to walk at a brisk pace as you enter an elevator. There, Tony hands you a badge and a tacky Stark Tower lanyard and tells you which employee entrances you’ll be able to use with your unusually high level of access (this didn’t make sense given you were an assistant, and not even a glorified one. But you chose not to question it).
Stark enters the apartment that you’re told is Peggy’s without so much as a knock – announcing his (and your) presence with a loud call into the minimalist living space.
A woman you sort-of recognize from the news (which talked about her nonstop when they found her in the place she had used to try and rescues Steve) appears from nowhere – dressed in a black and dark grey women’s suit from the 1940s, complete with low heels and deep red lipstick.
You’re starstruck, speechless – a ringing in your ears so loud you don’t hear that Stark has left until he’s gone.
And with the door shut loudly behind him, you and Peggy were alone.
“Well,” Peggy says, smile off-putting but beautiful. “Aren’t you a pretty little thing.”
Your chest felt like your ribs were tightening around your lungs, your breath squeezed from your body as she watched you. “I, uh,” you swallowed, trying to find whatever words you would pull from your dry mouth.
She backs you against a wall easily, towering over you. Her eyes scan your form, pausing when she gets to your center and chest.
“When Stark said he’d get me something to play with, I admit I didn’t expect it to be this cute…”
Your breath catches in your throat, eyes wide in confusion. “Miss Carter, I-I have no idea what you’re-“
She cuts you off, shoving three fingers into your mouth. “Quiet,” she hisses through her teeth.  “You will not speak unless I ask you something and when I do, you. Will. Answer. You understand?”
You gulp around her fingers. “Y-yes.”
She grins and moves to shed you of your sweater, huffing when she finds a fully buttoned shirt underneath.
“You’re such a tease,” she tuts before ripping the shirt. Buttons fly everywhere, but before you can process or complain or ask her what she’s doing your bra is gone, too.
Her tongue circles on of your pert nipples, making you fight back a small moan.
Her lipstick remains perfect when she pulls away with a soft pop!, moving to tear at your leggings and picking your flats off with the point of her heel.
It’s then that you find yourself able to push at her shoulders – stuttering through a menial protest.
“Wait!” you cry out. Peggy stops, but only for a moment. “W-wait! What are you doing?”
Peggy just smiles.
“C’mon little dove,” she coos down at you. “Don’t you want to feel good?”
You gulp, feeling the cold of the table press into your hot skin. “I-uh…”
“Don’t worry, baby girl,” she says. Her voice is low, as if not to scare off a wild deer. “I’d never hurt you, I’d never hurt anything so precious.”
You look between her and the door once more, admittedly a little scared.
But, what’s the worst that can happen?
You give her a little small nod, avoiding her heated gaze.
“Nu-uh,” Peggy tuts, using a single, perfectly manicured finger under your chin to raise your eyes to hers. “You have to tell me what you want. Don’t leave me guessing, little dove.”
Your eyes widen in fear and unknowing – struggling to find what you want to say.
It’s then that Peggy laughs lightly, fake pouting as she watches every movement of every muscle in your face.
“Oh, darling,” her lips curl sinisterly, but you can’t help but press your thighs together as a desperate heat grows there. “You don’t know what you want, do you?”
You shake your head silently. When Peggy narrows her eyes, you quickly move to correct your grave mistake. “N-no, I, uh…I don’t know…what I, uh. Want.”
Despite your mediocre presentation, Peggy doesn’t chastise you.
“You’re a fast learner,” she murmurs. “I like that.”
A moment passes where she just stares at you, and suddenly you feel quite insecure.
That, however, does not last for long.
“Open your mouth,” she tells you.
You do.
Easily, she slides two fingers past your lips and massages them over your tongue.
“Good girl,” she murmurs. “From now on you belong to me, do you understand?”
You nod.
Peggy moves her hand from your mouth to cradling your face, squeezing your cheeks before she pulls it back and slaps you.
You whimper in pain, making Peggy laughs.
“Aw, little dove,” she coos as you hold your hurt cheek, tears threatening to spill. “Did you like that?”
“N-no,” you mumble. “I, I didn’t l-like it.”
Peggy grabs your cheek forcefully, making your watery eyes meet her fiery ones. “Then don’t disobey me. Do you understand?”
You sniffle before you respond. “Y-yes.”
Peggy then rubs your pussy through your panties, smiling as you hold back whimpers.
“Sensitive little thing, aren’t you?” she murmurs.
“I-“ you struggle to respond but fear punishment. “Y-yes.”
“I’m going to make you feel so good,” Peggy tells you as she pushes your cotton underwear to the side.
You’re practically dripping as she pushes two fingers into you, the same two that remained soaked in your spit. Your hands scramble for purchase and land on Peggy’s shoulders.
She’s an expert at this, much better than the boys in college. Actually, everything about her is better than the boys in college – you didn’t even know girls did those kinds of things together.
It doesn’t take long for pleasure to light itself inside of you, for your spine to melt and your head to feel as if it was floating.
There’s something else, though, something both familiar and unknown to you.
“W-what-“ you moan. “I- Why does it f-feel like I’m g-going to-“
Peggy just smiles easily, eyes trained on your face. “That’s called an orgasm, little dove,” she tells you. “It’s okay, just let yourself feel good.”
You gulp, still trying to move out of her grasp.
Peggy just tuts at you, her other hand moving to run a comforting thumb over your jaw. “You can’t lie, I can see it I your pretty, dazed eyes. C’mon baby girl, don’t you want to come for me? You do, darling, don’t you?”
You nod, the coil in your stomach tightening with each passing second. “I, I-“
“Shh,” Peggy says, kissing at the corner of your trembling mouth. “Just let go, just let go for me…”
You cum with a loud moan, clinging to her as tears threatened to spill from your eyes and your skin felt like it was being torn at your fingertips and stomach.
Peggy holds you up as you come down from your high, allowing you to slump against her when you become boneless and blissed out.
She carries you to her bedroom, laying you down before she sheds her own clothes and joins you under the covers.
“So,” Peggy begins, holding you close to her despite the expansive, unclaimed real estate left on her large bed. “Are you going to be my filthy little girl from now on?”
It’s the next day when you’re sitting at the dining room table, going over the meals you planned to make during the week for Peggy and yourself.
The woman in question sits herself in the chair next to you, looming over your shoulder as you wrote into your notebook.
You thought she was going to say something, but then you feel her hand on your thigh.
For a moment you tense, but quickly realize what Peggy’s doing. With some hesitation you then use your own hand to push it closer to your center.
Peggy just massages the inside of your thigh, pressing into the bruises she left last night.
“You’re such a good girl for me, aren’t you?” She says, leaving small bites along your exposed neck. “Can’t wait to teach you fuck you, humiliate you a little.”
You gulp but lean into her body nonetheless and open your legs further. There’s nothing you’d like more.

#D2 - Darcy/Peggy/Steve
Tumblr media
Ship: Darcy Lewis/Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers |  Prompt: #D2 - “You got started without me.” |  For: @zephrbabe |  Rated: E |  Word Count: 156 |
Want one of your own?
“You got started without me.”
It was more of a statement than a question. And it was spoken in Peggy’s sharp inflection. No whine or disappointment in sight. In fact, she sounded almost pleased.
As if there were nothing she’d like better than to find Darcy with her lips wrapped around Steve’s rigid cock in the middle of their very prim and proper sitting room.
Darcy swirled her tongue around the head and Steve grunted, his toes curling into the carpet as he struggled not to buck up into her mouth.
“There’s only one thing Steve likes more than this… but I believe I’ll have to go change clothes for that to happen…” Peggy reached down and smoothed Darcy’s hair back from her face. “You’re doing fine, darling.” She glanced back up at Steve, who was gasping despite his enhancement. “You, on the other hand… have been a bad, bad boy.  Don’t come until I return.”

Favorite Female Characters
Rules: List 10 of my favorite female characters in any fandom whatsoever and tag some people.
Tagged by @spaceorphan18
Ok, so -- GOD THIS WAS HARD.  I’ve limited it to just TV shows (sorry movies and books) and then to just one character per TV show (which was the worst because quite often if a show has one lady I love it has multiple ladies I love and if I hadn’t I could’ve made an entire list from Parks & Rec and Brooklyn 99 alone).  So -- one character, one show, and I’M CONSUMED WITH PAIN OVER ALL THE LADIES I’VE LEFT OUT.
10. Eleanor Shellstrop, The Good Place
Tumblr media
Oh Eleanor, sent to the bad place when you really deserved the medium place at most *lol*  She lived her life like most of us lived ours, if we’re honest enough about our balance of bad and good, but she’s using this time to learn how to be a good person AND to pull a fast one over everyone keeping her and her new friends in the bad place.  All while being super supportive of her new found family. Also, ‘fork’ has made it into my vocabulary.
9. Mazikeen, Lucifer
Tumblr media
It was a tough choice between her, Chloe, and Linda, but Maze wins out because girl did not want to be where she is, but she is making the best of it.  Plus, her affection for Trixie and friendship with Linda and now Chloe is just a delight.  She may have come just because she felt loyalty to Lucifer, but she’s found her own family and she has a purpose all her own now.  Plus she can kick your ass with two hands and a leg tied behind her back.  She. Will. End. You.
8. Elizabeth McCord, Madam Secretary
Tumblr media
I love this show so much.  It scratches my ‘West Wing’ itch because it’s showing competent people doing good things in public service.  And Elizabeth is the most competent of them all -- an ex-CIA spy turned Secretary of State and she leads her department, and US diplomacy, with intelligence, heart, bravery, and not a small amount of wit.  She’s honestly who I want to be when I grow up, and she’s one of those people who you feel is making decisions on what’s best for the whole.  Plus she gets to go home to her husband played by Tim Daly and y’all... I enjoy him.  And her husband is supportive of her!  None of this ‘if you loved me you’d give up your high powered job’ shit that we see far too often in media depictions of powerful women.
7. Claire Fraser, Outlander
Tumblr media
How would you handle things if you got thrown 200 years in the past?  Probably not as well as Claire.  She’s competent (can you sense a theme in the type of lady-types I enjoy?) and devoted.  And also a bit selfish.  AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT HER.  She selfishly wants her hot Scottish husband back, and she tries to make it work with her present day husband, but she’s still bitter.  And I don’t blame her one bit.  We get to see her want, and choose, Jamie over her daughter, and that’s not something that we get to see a lot in media.  They never allow women to choose ANYTHING over their children without presenting them as misguided harpies who are just waiting for their comeuppance.  Claire openly and unambiguously chooses Jamie over Brianna and I love that she’s allowed to narratively make that choice.
6. Liz Lemon, 30 Rock
Tumblr media
Oh Liz.  For someone who feels like she doesn’t have her shit together, she actually does have her shit together.  I mean, she runs her own TV show and oversees 200 employees (and was willing to do naughty bang bang *fistbump* stuff to help them keep their jobs).  She has a whole speech about not needing a man but wanting to be loved, which resonated so fucking much with me.  And who among us haven’t had shitty co-workers that got away with things that us mere mortals couldn’t?  We’ve all had a Tracy or a Jenna to deal with.  And she comes out on top.  Plus, we get a mentor/mentee relationship that doesn’t devolve into sexual tension, which again is rare.
5. Peggy Carter, Agent Carter
Tumblr media
AGENT PEGGY FUCKING CARTER.  We only got two seasons of the show in addition to the movies, but god I love Peggy Carter.  Competent as fuck, and she’s not breaking glass ceilings as much as bulldozing through them and daring anyone to stop her.  Rampant sexism but she knows her worth and she keeps going forward until it turns out that she is the brains and the organization behind the creation of SHIELD and is basically responsible for the entire MCU that y’all know and love.  Add in that she wears a great red lip while kicking ass too.  And did I cry at her finale (for now) in Captain America: Civil War?  Damn straight I did.  (Still hoping we see her in Infinity War or more likely Avengers 4, but I have my own headcanon about how that will work :D )
4. Martha Jones, Doctor Who
Tumblr media
Hands down my favorite companion.  Martha Jones, training to be a doctor and decides to go on an adventure with the weird man who shows up in a phone box after she gets transported to the moon.  She’s the woman who walked the earth and is responsible for saving the Doctor and the entire world through a long game plan and nothing but her fucking words.  And when she isn’t getting what she wants out of the adventure and the Doctor, she walks away.  She leaves on her own terms, which is rare for a companion.  Yes, she pines for the Doctor, but c’mon, who among us wouldn’t in that sort of situation?  I would.  But she doesn’t let it consume her, and she makes her choice and she leaves with the statement ‘Yeah, I am that good’ because she is that fucking good at what she’s done.  I love her and I want everyone else to love her too.
3. CJ Cregg, The West Wing
Tumblr media
CJ is the queen of ‘on top of it’.  She’s navigates both the presidency and the press and that’s a job that’s hard as fuck.  She’s smart and charismatic and who among us hasn’t imagined walking out of a shitty job to go work for the president (no? just me?) and she has so many balls in the air but keeps them all going.  As Press Secretary she is nothing if not quick on her feet, and it is hard to trip her up.  She is another who I want to be when I grow up because she is just so capable.  Plus, her Secret Service code name is ‘Flamingo’ and who doesn’t love that?  Of all her great scenes, the one on my mind recently is the press conference where she starts listing gun violence victims and lord it just makes you yearn for competent people in the white house again.
2. Amy Santiago, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Tumblr media
Do you know how hard it was to pick only one character from B99?  Like, the fight between her and Rosa for queen in my heart? HARD AS FUCK.  But Amy wins out.  Amy who is so driven that she doesn’t take no for an answer, who wants to be the youngest police captain in the NYPD, who makes binders for everything, who gets excited about paperwork, and is competitive as fuck.  She could come off as irritating, but she doesn’t.  She’s eager to please and a bit of a suck up, but it’s because she just wants to soak up all of the knowledge and wisdom she can from her mentors.  Plus, she’s allowed to be all of these driven things even when dating/engaged to the lead character on the show.  The show doesn’t make her change to deserve love, but has Jake fall in love with her BECAUSE OF all of these aspects of her.  It’s canon that Jake always knew he’d work for her and loves her for it, and I love her for that too.
1. Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation
Tumblr media
There is no list of characters I love that is complete without Leslie Fucking Knope.  She is driven to make people’s lives better, and she does that in any venue she’s given -- be it the Parks department of a small city in Indiana all the way up to the Presidency.  She’s TOO MUCH a lot of the time, but it’s presented as a good thing.  She just cares a lot and she works hard to get things done.  She doesn’t take no for an answer and she’s always striving to be better and to make the people around her better too.  I want to be her.  And even being TOO MUCH she is shown to have friends who love her and make themselves better to live up to her standards and has an uber supportive husband in Ben, who is shown, like Amy and Jake, to love her BECAUSE of her too much-ness and not inspite of it.  The things that would annoy people are the things that attract him to her.  And honestly, as someone who is TOO MUCH a lot of the times and has been told that I’m hard to love, seeing someone like Ben love that about someone like Leslie is really empowering to me.  I. Fucking. Love. Her.
And let’s tag some people, shall we?  How about @razorsharpquill @47mel47 @slayerkitty @slayediest @black-john-lennon

What If...? (Big Hero 6 Edition)
So the next Marvel series set to release is What If...?, a series of nine episodes that will focus on alternate events and timelines that occur within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The series, based off of the comic series of the same name, will premiere on August 11th, running straight through October 6th. The show was suppose to have ten episodes in both Season 1 and 2 (which is already being worked on), but producer Brad Winderbaum mentions in an interview that they had to push an episode back because of, you guessed it, the pandemic:
"We had to push an episode into Season 2. It was just, honestly, like everything else, that was a COVID impact," Winderbaum told Collider. "There was an episode that just wouldn't hit the completion date, but luckily we do get to see it in the second season of the show."
Tumblr media
youtube
Judging by both the poster and the trailer, we know of a few scenarios: Peggy Carter becoming Captain America, an alternate Avengers lineup battling at New York, Black Panther as Star Lord, Marvel Zombies (of course there’s zombies), and Spider-Man as the Sorcerer Supreme.  Inverse has an article breaking all of the possibilities down.
A lot of the actors who portray their characters in live action will reprise their roles for the animated series, including the late Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther/Star Lord.  Star...Panther?  Black Lord? That last one sounds wrong. Among those not coming back are Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and Dave Bautista as Drax.  Bautista was, according to the man himself, wasn’t even asked to come back to voice Drax.  Others include Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, James Spader as Ultron, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Elizabeth Olson as the Scarlet Witch, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Gweneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and various members of the Dora Milaje.  They have all apparently been confirmed to be appearing in What If...? in some form or another, but voiced by different people.
It will certainly be an interesting show, but I hope you can see where I’m going with this.
The Big Hero 6 fanbase has a lot of burning questions for the show and movie, and it’s not all just unanswered ones about what happens after the show ended.  I think collectively there are a few common “what-ifs” that we have in our minds about the team.  I think the most obvious one involves one of the Hamada brothers, and that branches off into other what-ifs as well.
Granted, not all of these are reality-altering hypotheticals like there are in the show or comics, but they can still change the course of the movie or show in a huge way.
Tumblr media
1.) What if...Tadashi had survived the fire?
Tadashi being a survivor of the fire that takes down the exhibition hall brings up a few interesting conundrums.  Would he be scarred for life?  Would he even be able to complete school?
And if Hiro still made the team, would he end up becoming Sunfire like a lot of fans theorize?
Tumblr media
The thing is that Callaghan knows that Tadashi died in the fire.  If he knew that he didn’t, would that change his motivations?  Would he still be using the Microbots knowing that the person that was trying to “stop” him was still alive? Alternatively, you also have...
Tumblr media
2.) What if...Hiro had died instead of Tadashi?
Hiro was probably about two seconds away from being fully engulfed in that giant fireball.  It’s entirely plausible that he (or possibly both Hamadas) could have perished in the fire instead of his brother, which sort of leads to the same circumstances as the first question, just with different powersets.  Tadashi would no longer be tied to fire-based powers but the magnetic equipment that that Hiro currently uses.
But one has to think about whether Tadashi would be in the right state of mind to be a hero long term.  Seeing his kid brother perish in the accident would probably cause him to go insane, and perhaps the rest of the team would have to reel him in.
Tumblr media
3.) What if...Baymax had killed Callaghan?
It’s worth noting that if Honey Lemon had been about three seconds later on getting the healthcare chip back into Baymax, this wouldn’t have been a “What If?” question.
And sure, the team would have saved the day, but at what cost?  The permanent scarring of a fourteen-year-old?  And what would have come of the major revelations after that fight concerning Project Silent Sparrow and Abigail?
Tumblr media
Maybe they would have been the ones to build the portal to the other dimension to try to save her.  That would similar to what happened in the original manga (where Tadashi actually helps with the construction of the original portal and got sucked in as a result). 4.) What if...Baymax had saved Obake in “Countdown to Catastrophe”?
Tumblr media
Obake dismissed Baymax after his hideout started collapsing near the end of Part 2, and you could tell that Baymax was seriously considering rescuing him before leaving him in his chair amongst the rubble.  Ultimately, however, he did leave him behind after Obake’s insistence.
Imagine what would have happened if he had gone against his programming and saved his life.
Tumblr media
The relieved group hug on the beach would have been replaced with a disheveled (and probably a little damp) Obake.  Hiro would have been staring hiim down in disbelief.  Perhaps there would even be another fight, or at least the makings of one.
And then Obake would give himself up for arrest.
Maybe that’s where Chief Cruz could have been introduced.  It would have given a good lead into the next season, and it would give Megan’s meeting with Hiro in Season 2 a little bit more meaning.
And finally, because I’m a shipper and we have to go there:
Tumblr media
5.) What if...Karmi had never left SFIT at the end of “City of Monsters”?
We know from the boards that Bob Schooley posted that “City of Monsters” was originally going to end very differently than what actually made the final cut.  It seemed that Karmi, in addition to getting a nonsensical boyfriend named “Flammarion”, was not suppose to leave SFIT in the early draft.
So what if Hiro had shown up to her lab, and instead of seeing this...
Tumblr media
He saw this?
Tumblr media
Or...something a little less dramatic?  Maybe just her packing up stuff because she’s in the process of leaving?  And Hiro had to say something in order for her to stop what she was doing? And how exactly would you achieve that? See, if that scenario happened, I think that this particular point would be where Hiro told her about being in Big Hero 6.  And of course Karmi wouldn’t believe him, even though she’s now in love with him crushing on him.
Then, he takes her to the base.
And she turns back to him with an incredulous look.
And roll credits.  What a cliffhanger to go into Season 3 with. I vaguely remember fanart depicting that exact scene (Hiro taking Karmi to the base), but I don’t remember who did it.  I would like to give them the proper credit. Season 3 would have looked totally different if that took place.  Maybe it would have been an actual season and not a bunch of mini stories.  Also...perhaps Karmi would have joined the team proper.
And maybe we would have finally had a giant canonical Karmiro moment.
...Now that is a big “What if?”.
(Marvel’s What If...? premieres on Wednesday, August 11th on Disney+.)

The Sweetest Apparition - Part 3
Pairing: Peggy Carter x fem!Reader
Summary: Reader is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and historian who specializes in the life and legacy of Captain Carter. After Nick Fury uses the Tesseract to bring Peggy back, the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. contacts the reader to help her navigate life in the XXI century.
Warnings and notes: Food, mentions of Steggy, mentions of Stucky, very small mentions of war. Other characters are also mentioned. This got way longer than the first two parts, but there’s also way more Peggy here. This series takes place after the last scene of What If… episode one, including spoilers to that episode. Reader uses she/her pronouns.
Word count: 2,304
Series Masterlist
It should be a short walk to your apartment, but you made a small stop each time Captain Carter was curious about something. You also got some take out on the way, making sure to pick at least four different options from separate places and a couple of desserts too, since you didn’t know her taste yet. It was a while before you made it to your street.
During the entire time, your chatting was limited to safe topics - how loud and bright the city was, how many screens there were, the amount of coffee options that existed now. You watched Carter fall in love with her caramel coffee and made a mental note to buy her more sweets.
Soon, the Captain would also need to go shopping. Fury had gotten her the formal white blouse and the black pants she wore now, an outfit much more discreet than the uniform she was wearing when she fell, but that was her entire wardrobe at the moment. That was another mission you should handle, but it could wait until after lunch.
When you finally got home, you placed the food over a kitchen counter and gave Carter a quick tour of the apartment. It wasn’t much, but hopefully it would be enough for both of you until she was more familiar with this century. The tour ended where it started: in your tiny kitchen. You pulled a stool for the Captain and presented her with the options for lunch.
“I suppose you’ve never tried some of those, so I got a few different meals. Burritos, sweet and sour chicken, calzones and Pad Thai. For dessert, there’s lemon tart and triple chocolate cake. I might have gotten a little carried away.”
Peggy took a seat and examined her options. You wondered if that would be, technically her first meal since the 40’s.
“They are all tempting, but I might start with this one.” Her eyes were fixated on a burrito as if it was the Holy Grail. Yeah, that was surely the first time she ate in seventy years. She dove in, so focused on her meal that you didn’t dare to interrupt. Meanwhile, you took the other stool and picked a calzone, eating it while you watched Carter.
You were still trying to wrap your head around the fact that she was really here, and it was surprising that you hadn’t completely freaked out so far, but the prospect of the rest of the day started to worry you. The Captain would certainly have a lot of questions and, if there were inquiries that Fury left for you to answer, they probably pertained more to her personal life than to great historical events.
If the registers about her were right, it wouldn’t be long before the real conversation started. Peggy Carter was too smart to have such a debate in the middle of the street, but she wasn’t known for stalling. As soon as she finished her meal, in the privacy of your (now shared) kitchen, you would have to provide about seven decades of answers.
Before you could try to prepare yourself, she was done with her second burrito. You almost suggested dessert, but the look she gave you left no room for pauses. Carter turned on her stool to face you directly, her posture becoming straighter and her eyes never leaving yours. She was the perfect image of Captain Carter, the hero, the legend who defeated all odds. Still, when she spoke, there was softness in her voice.
“The meal was lovely and so is the apartment. I can’t thank you enough for you kindness, Agent L/N, but I must ask a few things more of you. If you have studied about my life, you must know what happened to Steve Rogers after I was gone.”
You should be ready for that. Of course her first personal concern would be about Rogers. His story with Carter went down in history as a tragic tale of love, bravery and loss. To his last days, Rogers had made it his mission to honor her legacy, but that wasn’t all that he did. How do you tell a person that the love of her life went on to live a decades long, fulfilling relationship with someone else, even though, from her perspective, they were together the day before?
“Please, call me Y/N. And you can ask anything, Captain. I will tell you everything I can.” You took a deep breath, going through the words in your head in search of the best way to let her know. It was best to keep nothing out. Carter deserved that. “Steve Rogers continued to serve as the Hydra Stomper until the war had ended and all known Hydra operations had been eliminated. After that, he stepped out of the suit so that Howard Stark could continue his research with the Tesseract. I believe neither of them ever gave up on bringing you back, but, in many ways, they also moved on to build new lives.”
You made a small pause, in case she wanted to say something, but Carter only gave you a nod, encouraging you to continue. It was impossible to look away from her eyes, or to keep anything hidden when she stared at you with such intensity. Even in silence, sitting still, she emanated a power that kept you talking.
“A few years after the war, Rogers and Stark started an intelligence agency to keep the world safe from threats we could barely understand. They named it S.H.I.E.L.D., because of you. That is the agency I work for, directed by Nick Fury.” There was something poetic in the way that same agency ended up being the reason Peggy Carter was back, but it wasn’t your place to point that out. “Rogers never stopped fighting, even without the suit. He was a legendary agent, working along with James Barnes until they retired. They were also together for the rest of their lives.”
That was the piece of information you feared would break Carter’s heart, but she had a bright smile after hearing that.
“That suits them. All of them.” The joy in her voice sounded so sincere, and you couldn’t help but ask.
“Were you and Rogers… Together? It is said so in the official files, but…” In your studies, you sometimes wondered if their relationship was just a myth, maybe a publicity stunt to humanize the fallen super soldier. It was your job to question the data, but you had never paid that possibility much attention until now.
Instead of being offended by your invasion of her privacy, Carter laughed so lightly and freely that you felt your cheeks getting warm.
“Oh, darling, Steve Rogers had a heart too big to have only one soul mate. He was the love of my life, yes, and I was the love of his, but not the only one. A love so beautiful and dedicated is supposed to be shared. Of course I’m sad I didn’t get to share the rest of his life with him, but I’m relieved to know that he and Bucky had each other. And that’s not to say I’m a being of such virtue that I’m above jealousy. I felt jealous of Steve alright, many times, but I could never be jealous of him with Buck. They fit well together and they were good for each other. They were real, just as Steve and I were. Steve deserved to be loved through a lifetime. I’m grateful that he was.”
Carter’s eyes shined with tears, but she didn’t allow any to fall. Maybe she would let herself grief for the lost possibilities later, but for now she was handling such an emotional journey with more elegance than you thought possible. It didn’t seem to be an act at all. On the contrary, what touched you the most was the honesty in her words. That selflessness of being genuinely happy to hear of how her soul mate lived on without her, in love with someone else, told you more about Peggy Carter than any history book ever had. And that’s how she reacted right after being thrown into the next century, coming directly from a war and landing in a world she didn’t recognize.
“I don’t think history ever made you justice, Captain. The general public thinks of you as a hero, but they’re so far from knowing the person behind the suit... You know, it’s very nice to meet you.” You couldn’t help but sharing a bit of what was on your mind. To that moment, your hero was turning out to be even better than your daydreams, and it was only fair to let her know so.
At that, she gave you a big smile and your heart skipped a beat. You would have a hard time sharing an apartment with this woman.
“You are far too kind to me. To be honest, they never showed much interest on me, suit or not, until I went against official orders and started throwing tanks around and fighting the battles that needed to be fought. I am more concerned about what I am able to achieve, regardless of how they will see me. And there’s no need to call me Captain, Y/N. Heavens, we live and work together now and you’re my guide to modern life. Peggy is fine. And it’s nice to meet you too.” She took the initiative to get a slice of chocolate cake, already making herself at home. You had the feeling that her adaptation to this world wouldn’t be too difficult, all things considered. Peggy Carter would take whatever she was given and make more of it than anyone imagined possible.
“As you wish, Peggy. Speaking of that, there’s a lot I think you’ll like to see about life now. What else are you curious about?” You took your own slice of cake, trying to feel at ease in this conversation. You couldn’t be on high alert whenever Carter was around if she was going to be around all the time, but that was easier said than done. Your responsibilities here were enormous and, to be frank, you were determined to be your best self and impress her, even if just a bit. Maybe telling her about the wonders of nowadays technology would do the trick.
“I am curious about everything. I can’t wait to know all about the development of science, or what I missed in seven decades of sociopolitical turmoil, but there’s one more person I’d love to hear about before we get to that. You mentioned Howard moving on with his life, didn’t you? What exactly was that little menace up to while I was gone?”
Now, that was a rich topic of conversation.
“Well, Stark continued his research with the Tesseract and with many other projects, sometimes along with the US government, and he built a billionaire empire. Weapons, all sorts of technology, wild parties. The man had everything. He has a son, Tony, who inherited the tech, the money and the brains, but with a stronger inclination to heroism. You see, Tony Stark built himself a supersuit, partially inspired by his father’s Hydra Stomper, but with a larger variety of uses. It’s said that Steve Rogers was a sort of mentor to him, but I couldn’t get Stark to talk a lot about it when I interviewed him.”
You couldn’t tell which part made Peggy more excited. She nodded along as you listed Howard Stark’s achievements, as if it was all expected, and her eyes got wider when you told her about his son. When you mentioned Rogers, she almost jumped in her seat. She was already invested, but dropping that name sealed the deal.
“Fury gave me this.” She took two business cards out of her pocket. “It has his telephone number and Barton’s too. Could I use your telephone to call him? I would like to meet this Tony Stark, and I bet Fury would be able to reach him.”
Giving Director Fury a call from your cellphone felt strange, but how could you deny Peggy that? If the Director gave her the number, he wanted her to be able to reach him, right?
Instead of dialing yourself, you showed Carter how to use the phone. She looked like a kid on Christmas whenever she was given access to new technology. You would make sure she got a cellphone of her own soon so you could show her everything the device could do.
She called Fury and you waited as they talked for less than two minutes. Peggy handed you the phone when she was done, with a smile that said she got what she wanted.
“So, what did the Director say?” You asked, anxious to know the outcome of the call.
“We’re meeting Tony Stark tomorrow at 2pm in his tower. Was it him who named it Stark tower or is that Howard’s doing?” She narrowed her eyes a bit, still smiling.
“The tower was built by Tony, so I think we can’t blame Howard for that one.” You joked. “Are you meeting Fury at S.H.I.E.L.D. before you two go to Stark’s?”
“Oh, Fury is not going. He booked the meeting for you and me, if you would like to accompany me.” Peggy sounded hesitant, as if she had just considered that you might not want to join her on that plan.
"You’re asking me if I wish to be there when Captain Carter meets Tony Stark? Please, if I didn’t get the chance to be a part of that exchange, I would beg you for a detailed retelling as soon as you got home.”
Your reply made Peggy laugh once more, and you were getting used to that sound very quickly.

Thor & Loki
Because Peter had been fairly young when he moved inside the compound, they had put his room next to Tony’s quarters since he was the one in charge of their youngest member. Then one day a door appeared in the middle of his room, connecting it to the Stark’s private quarters. They had a long discussion about boundaries: “Ask before putting doors in my bedroom” and “don’t threaten people because they hurt me” etc. Tony had argued it was easier (it was, but that was not the question) because they spend more and more time together. Which was true.
Tony and Pepper had started to teach Peter some things about business practice. They took him to smaller meetings and introduced him as Tony’s intern; it suited Peter very much. That, plus his patrols, as well as other Avenger business, like training, and his new business classes...Peter was now even busier than he already was.
Except on Sundays. Sundays were days Peter could rest, sleep, visit his aunt May, hang with Ned and MJ, and watch movies with Bucky the other Avengers.
Every Sunday morning, before leaving their quarters, Peter and Tony would eat the most decadent brunch that Peter would let Tony buy him. From all the changes that happened in his life since he got adopted by Tony Stark, Sunday brunches were certainly Peter’s favorites. He loved those calm moments with the man that he admired so much. He also loved that he could put on whatever clothes he wanted because FRIDAY would only let people in the know enter.
That Sunday, they were finishing their meal when Steve entered. He briefly stopped at the soft pink hoodie, gray and pink plaid skirt, and long white socks Peter was wearing before dismissing it and greeting the two men.
“So, Steve, what can we do for you?” Tony asked, forgoing the pleasantries. Peter knew Tony hated being interrupted during Sunday brunches, and saw that Steve started to move from one leg to the other, a bit nervous. Peter frowned.
“Oh, I-I mean, I wanted to apologize for-” Peter tried to interrupt Steve, he had told him many times that Steve was forgiven, but the man was stubborn and didn’t let him talk. “I know, you already told me, but I- I made this for you.” Steve gave Peter a piece of paper.
On the paper was a beautiful drawing of Peter in the purple dress that he had been wearing when Steve had discovered his secret. Peter was startled out of his stunned silence when his dad gently took the paper from his hands.
Tony simply whistled when he saw the drawing. “Aunt Peggy had told me you could draw, Rogers, but this is something else.” Steve looked at Tony, in shock.
“Au-Aunt Peggy? But you-you weren’t-”
Tony snorted, irked. “I went to her grave later, Rogers, because there was an emergency, and if there was something Aunt Peggy could understand, it was emergencies. She was Howard’s friend, and my godmother.” Peter, who had been told the story, silently stroked his dad’s back in support as he continued. “We also fought a lot when you came back.” Steve opened his mouth to speak, but Tony didn’t let him. “Not that it’s any of your business, Capsicle, but who do you think covered the truth about Howard’s death? Who do you think had enough power for that? Peggy Carter. She let me think my father killed my mom because he was a fucking alcoholic.”
Steve looked as if he had swallowed a lemon, grimacing. “I didn’t know. I am sorry, Tony.”
Tony lifted his hand. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” He lifted the paper with Steve’s drawing on it, looking at it pensively. “You’re very talented. We should make you an art studio. There is an empty room with great lighting.” Tony turned to Peter to watch him. “What d’you think kid? Wanna design it?”
Peter felt excited to be offered this opportunity; he nodded with way too much enthusiasm. It made Tony smile, proud.
“You’re gonna make some blueprints, and we will see with the Captain what he needs and likes. No, Cap, don’t argue, it will be good training for the kid. Now, Steve, if you don’t mind, I was having brunch with my kid.”
Peter only had 30 seconds to thank Steve for the drawing and promise him he would make the best art studio there was before Steve left. After Brunch, Peter framed the drawing and put it on his shelf with the piece of his first skirt and the picture of his dad in a dress.
--
Later that day, while Peter and Tony were looking at a movie, before heading out for a diner with Aunt May, someone crashed into their quarters through the window.
Tony was ready to fight in seconds; his watch changed into a piece of armor around his right fist, while his left arm pushed Peter behind him, only to find that it was Thor, son of Odin, that had crashed on the ground. Peter couldn’t help but find it kind of cute that his dad would try to protect Peter with his body when Peter could take the most damage.
“For fuck’s sake, Point Break, what the ever-loving fuck?” Tony let the gauntlet recede back into his watch and put his hand on his heart. “I have a heart condition, you know? And we have doors. FRI, baby, tell everyone in the compound there is no immediate emergency. Put the compound in code orange until further notice,” Tony turned to look at Peter, seeing the pink skirt, the hoodie, and the panicked glances his kid was giving, then added, “Tell them there is no need to come and lock the quarters immediately.”
Peter relaxed some and started to play with the hem of his skirt.
“I apologize, Man of Iron. It seems like I missed the door.” Thor stood up from where he had crashed, and he opened his arms to hug Tony. “It has been too long my friend. How are you doing?” Tony frowned, but he let the god hug him.
After they separated, Tony started to give instructions to FRIDAY for the reparations while Thor turned to look at Peter. There were a few seconds where Thor paused to take in how Peter was dressed before he widened his eyes.
Before Peter could react, Thor bowed deeply before speaking. “Good day, Lady Peter.”
Peter winced. Why would he be a lady? Just because he was wearing a skirt?
“I-I, no, Thor. I-I am a man.” Peter hated how his voice shivered.
Thor righted himself, beaming at Peter as if nothing had just happened. “Good, how are you doing Man of Spiders?”
Peter looked at the god, completely lost by what had just happened. “I-I am fine? Thank you, mister Thor,” Peter said with a small voice.
The god nodded happily. “I am happy to hear that.” Thor promptly turned to Tony. “Man of Iron, I am in great need of a favor.”
Tony scowled looking at the damage. “Is it more important than repairing the hole in my wall?”
Thor’s face became serious in a blink, making Peter shiver. “I am afraid it is really important, my friend,” Thor said in a deep voice.
--
The meeting had been going on for hours, and Peter was exhausted.
Thor wanted their help to get some information out of his brother Loki. The Asgardians had a reason to think that Loki hadn’t been the one behind the invasion and could even have been a victim of the scepter like Barton and the others, but Loki wouldn’t talk. Thor hoped that maybe someone on Earth could help them because they had tried everything.
The news was welcomed by an uproar, led by Hawkeye and Fury, and had calmed down after Thor had explained that if his fears were correct, there was something worse coming to Earth. He also promised that they wouldn’t need to bring Loki for them to interrogate him and that there was a magic mirror they could use to talk to him.
It was decided the mirror would be locked in Tony’s lab, the most secure room at the compound.
However, they all forgot Peter had unlimited access to the room.
--
The first time Peter saw Loki, Peter was walking along the glass walls of the main lab. He could see Natasha and Maria Hill looking frustrated at a mirror. In the mirror, there was a gorgeous woman with long, raven black hair; she had piercing green eyes, green lipstick, and she was wearing a stunning, black leather dress.
If Peter hadn’t been gay, and stupidly in love attracted to Bucky, he knew that he could have fallen for this beautiful lady.
Then his brain started to work again and realization clicked: The woman was Loki. Loki was wearing (and rocking) a dress. He looked like a woman, but how? When she/he/the God of Mischief saw Peter, they winked. Peter startled and simply walked faster to the B-Lab where Bruce was waiting for him.
--
Peter couldn’t get Loki out of his mind. The God didn’t look uncomfortable wearing a dress or looking like a woman in front of his enemies.
After some days, Peter decided to go to the main source of information about Loki: Thor.
“Oh, yes, Loki sometimes, uhm, switches? Mother always said to respect the gender he looks like, but you know that Loki is my brother, so it was difficult at first.” Thor massaged his neck, uneasy. “But then, Loki started to play vicious pranks on the people who would call him a man when he was dressed like a woman. So, I learned to, uh, call Loki a lady when he wears a dress.”
And then Peter understood. “That's why you called me a lady the other day!”
Thor nodded. “But luckily you don’t ask me to call you a woman.”
Peter frowned. “Why do you say luckily? I mean, I don’t think there is anything wrong with asking someone to call you a woman if… you feel like a woman?” Thor, confused, looked at Peter and was about to reply, but Tony (since when had he been in the room?) answered first, making Peter and Thor startle.
“No, there is nothing wrong, Peter. Loki is genderfluid, which means that they don’t identify themself as having a fixed gender.” Tony, who was at the door, walked into the room and up to Peter. “We asked Loki and he said you could use the pronouns depending on what he looks like. It’s easier because Loki is a shifter, and can change depending on his moods. But if you ever meet another genderfluid person, you can just ask them what gender they identify with at that moment.”
Peter nodded. It made sense.
Thor looked a bit crushed when he started to speak again. “So, it’s not only Loki?” Tony simply shook his head. “Oh. I think I need to talk to my br-Loki.” With those words, the god left the room.
--
Peter did some research about genders - Tony helped - and he concluded that he was a man that liked to cross-dress and that there was nothing wrong with that. Peter had felt very loved that his dad, who was always so busy, had taken the time to explain all of those terms to Peter until they found the ones that felt right.
But Peter was a curious person, and it was what led him to be bitten by a radioactive spider in the first place... Peter wanted to talk to Loki. He wanted to talk about the dress, and about being genderfluid. He knew that the god was not a good being, but Loki was already in prison. What could go wrong?
--
“The mighty Avengers are sending me a child, now? Interesting.” Loki’s bitter words made Peter flinch. Peter silently closed the door behind him, before he entered the lab.
“No. I- I mean, I am an Avenger, but they didn’t send me.” Peter nervously played with the plaid shirt he was wearing that day.
“Then why are you here?”
Peter lifted his head and looked directly at Loki for the first time. He noted that Loki was in a male form.
“I learned that you are genderfluid. I- I just wanted to talk.”
Loki’s face softened a little bit. “Oh, yes. People of Midgard have been strangely open-minded about it.” His face then hardened again. “What do you want? Do you want to see the shift? Do you want me to become a female?”
Peter winced.
“What? No! Only if it’s what you want. But, no, who would want you to do that? You’re not some kind of animal.” Peter was horrified, just thinking about it. Loki huffed but said nothing, watching Peter with piercing eyes. Peter took a deep breath and gathered his courage. “I-I like to wear dresses. It is called cross-dressing here.”
Loki looked at Peter like he was analyzing Peter’s very soul. “Why are you telling me this, human?” he seemed perplexed.
“I saw you in that dress the last time, and you were gorgeous. I mean, that dress, it looked like it had been made just for you.” Peter couldn’t contain the excitement in his voice. Loki raised an eyebrow, but Peter could see that he was fighting a smile.
“That would be because it was crafted for me. I am a prince of Asgard, little one.” The reply was unexpected, and Peter felt his eyes open with shock that was rapidly replaced by glee.
“Oh yes, my da- Mr. Stark let a tailor come to the tower, and he wanted to tailor some things, but I wasn't ready yet. Mr. Stark said that the man could come back later. ”
Loki didn’t fight his smile this time.
“And why weren’t you ready, yet, dear?”
--
Peter and Loki talked a big part of the night until Peter started to yawn too much, then Loki sent him to his room. As days went on, after his patrol and doing some homework, Peter visited every night to talk about stuff with Loki.
--
“By the Norns! Dear Spider, why would you not simply tell the man that you want him?” Loki asked, sitting against the wall of his prison.
“What? No! He doesn’t feel that way about me,” Peter answered stubbornly while painting his nails with a green nail polish that had been approved by Loki.
“You won’t know until you try, dear.” Peter shrugged and changed the subject.
--
Of course, after a visit one night, they were discovered. While Tony and Natasha (and Bucky) hadn’t been really happy about it, there was nothing they could do or say to change Peter’s mind.
--
“You what?” Peter asked, dumbfounded.
“I stabbed the mongrel,” Loki answered, way too smugly if you asked Peter.
“Because he slapped your ass? Isn’t that a bit extreme?”
“Oh my sweet, sweet, little Spider. If you let men get away with unwanted touching, they will think it is alright to do it again and again. No one should dare touch a lady like that without consequences.” Loki played with the knife that had been in his hand since they started to talk that day.
“Yes, but still, Thor is your brother.” Peter never had had a sibling, but if he had, he wouldn’t have stabbed them, for sure.
“After that, neither Thor, nor any of the savages he called ‘friends’, ever touched me without my consent.” The smile Loki sent his way made Peter shiver.
“Yeah, ok, fair.” The god did heal fast, so Peter guessed that it was okay-ish.
--
Peter had been surprised when a raven had given Peter two identical letters one morning after breakfast. He was even more surprised when the letters ended up being Loki’s complete confession. One had been addressed to ‘The Mighty Avengers’ and the other to ‘Sweet Spider’.
Loki explained how he had fallen into Thanos’ lap after the destruction of the rainbow bridge; he mentioned the torture, the scepter, and how the beating that the Hulk gave him had helped him evade his conditioning. He also laid out Thanos' strengths and weaknesses, including how and when to beat him.
At the end, Loki wrote that he would never have written his confession if it weren’t for Peter.
Peter then took the last page, where Loki had drawn them both and had it framed to be placed on his beloved shelf.
