“War Against all Puerto Ricans” - Nelson Denis

One year ago today, Hurricane Maria destroyed our island, the profound sadness I feel and the lack of progress, respect and true aid my people have received, has devastated all of us stateside in ways I cannot begin to express. We are speechless, ashamed and incredulous that our commonwealth can be shown such disdain and indifference. This is our 9/11. In my family 2 great uncles served in WW1 & WW2, my father and 3 uncles in Korea (2 tours for my dad), my cousin too. What people fail to grasp, they hyper nationalists in Puerto Rico who claim the “Americanized” Puerto Rican’s in the USA aren’t real enough or Puerto Rican enough, let me tell you all-you’re buying the hype; this division is a construct, the opiate of the masses to keep us from rising and assembling and taking back our island, it’s planned and the brainwashing and indoctrination you’ve received is working. No one is more “woke” than the others. My entire family has bled for Puerto Rico and has fought to defend our freedom in the USA. But we have totally failed at rising as the natives of the island with petty squabbles and pissing matches. We must not allow our island to be taken from us as “foreclosed or depressed property” I’ve been harping in this since 2013, it was a subtle move towards that then, it is not subtle at all now. Is anyone seeing this? Today is a day that has given us pause, ptsd, sorrow. I’m asking, if not us who? When do we decide to unite and be a force, an impenetrable wall against corruption, greed and opportunism. We cannot let rn Borikua die here. In the words of Pedro Albizu Campos- “We are not small, it’s just that we are on our knees”. Get up mi gente-RISE. #1yearaftermaria #alleyesonpuertorico #911 #thisisour911 #puertorico #1yearlater #hurricamaria #pedroalbizucampos #genocide #crimesagainsthumanity #indigenous #unitethetribes #taino #notextinct #myth #savepuertorico #unity #unidos #somosboricuas #borikua #prpower #prselevanta #boriken #isladelencanto 🇵🇷 (at Puerto Rico) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn8gBhjAOXZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=19sq0qkj3b1h4

On Palm Sunday in 1937, the Ponce Massacre occurred. On this day, the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party organized a march to commemorate the abolition of slavery and to protest the imprisonment of #PedroAlbizuCampos (Puerto Rican Malcolm X ✊🏾) by the US Government. * Unfortunately, the peaceful civilian march turned into a police shooting (oh wow, why does this sound so familiar?). As a result, there were almost two dozen casualties and many people wounded. * This building is part of the actual site where the massacre occurred which makes it the perfect place for a museum.
