Let's remember one of the Greatest Guitarist ever, Jimi Hendrix on the date of his birth.
Jimi Hendrix signature James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born Johnny Allen Hendrix; November 27, 1942 – September 18, 1970) was an American guitarist and singer-songwriter. He is widely considered to be the greatest guitarist in musical history, and one of the most influential musicians of his era across a range of genres.
After initial success in Europe with his group The Jimi Hendrix Experience, he achieved fame in the United States following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, Hendrix headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. He often favored raw overdriven amplifiers with high gain and treble and helped develop the previously undesirable technique of guitar amplifier feedback.
Hendrix, as well as his friend Eric Clapton, popularized use of the wah-wah pedal in mainstream rock which he often used to deliver an exaggerated sense of pitch in his solos, particularly with high bends, complex guitar playing, and use of legato. As a record producer, Hendrix also broke new ground in using the recording studio as an extension of his musical ideas. He was one of the first to experiment with stereophonic phasing effects for rock recording.
Hendrix was influenced by blues artists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Albert King and Elmore James, rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield and Steve Cropper, and the jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery. Hendrix (who was then known as 'Maurice James') began dressing and wearing a moustache like Little Richard when he performed and recorded in his band from March 1, 1964 through to the spring of 1965. In 1966, Hendrix stated, "I want to do with my guitar what Little Richard does with his voice".
Hendrix won many of the most prestigious rock music awards in his lifetime, and has been posthumously awarded many more, including being inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. An English Heritage blue plaque was erected in his name on his former residence at Brook Street, London, in September 1997. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6627 Hollywood Blvd.) was dedicated in 1994. In 2006, his debut US album, Are You Experienced, was inducted into the United States National Recording Registry, and Rolling Stone named Hendrix the top guitarist on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all-time in 2003.

The Valley of Fear: Darkness
Here are some examples of tweed suits:
These suits were commonplace at the time as outerwear as they coped well with the British climate; remember this is January and it can be quite cold even though snow is pretty uncommon these days in Southern England.
Police tape did not come around until the 1960s. Until then, crime scene security involved police officers standing guard, a rather hard task in the countryside.
A mare is a female horse.
The Pennsylvania Small Arm Company is fictitious. T
he main firearms company out of the Keystone State today is the Kahr Firearms Group, who moved there from New York in 2014 when the latter state tightened up its firearms laws. It having bought up the Auto-Ordnance Company and Magnum Research, it is the company that sells the Desert Eagle for those who want oversized handguns and also semi-automatic versions of the Thompsons submachine gun, including the 50-round magazines. Individuals cannot purchase weapons from them directly though; you have to go through an authorised firearms dealer. They do not do shotguns, sawed-off or otherwise.
Aberdonian refers to Aberdeen, one of Scotland's eight cities. It is known as the Granite City due to the use of it there during the Victorian era and is the hometown of Annie Lennox.
A rampant lion or lion rampant is a heraldic lion standing upright with its paws raised:
They are common on coats of arms. As the symbol of the Kingdom of Scotland, they feature more than once on both the UK and Scottish royal coat of arms, including one wearing the Tudor and Scottish Crowns respectively:
It is possible to drown in an inch of water, but that generally requires losing consciousness first.
Anyway, blotting paper was widely used at the time:

There have been voluntary bike registration schemes set up in various countries to assist in theft recovery:
There is no requirement to pay road tax on pedal bikes - unlike motorbikes. However, taking them on holiday to France could lead to issues with Customs; it still can in some cases since Brexit.

Eight Nights of Mulder Day 2: Heritage
[on Ao3]
December 2001
Mulder is 1,700 miles from home on the first night of his son’s first Hanukkah. But his foot is heavy on the gas pedal and he’s quickly closing the distance. He didn’t contact Scully before deciding to return. She would argue and tell him it’s too dangerous, but she’s wrong. The danger is being so far apart. The only risk now is this temperamental jalopy, that he paid cash for in New Mexico, giving up the gun before he crosses the final state line and makes it home.
When he returned from the dead to a very pregnant Scully, his first instinct was to run. He couldn’t be a father. It seemed possible a year ago when they tried IVF but that was before he was taken, before he lost months of his memory and showed up deckled in scars from injuries he couldn’t remember suffering. She was flourishing with life and he still hadn’t shaken off the cold of the grave.
He was far too damaged to take care of a helpless infant, to be any sort of positive influence in an innocent child’s life. His own father wasn’t much of a role model and he feared he’d follow in Bill Mulder’s footsteps, putting his quest before his family. Scully didn’t agree. He gave her more than one opportunity to leave him and cut her losses. He hoped the strength of her nurture could overpower the dysfunction of his nature. But she didn’t leave. She ignored his wisecracks and his attempts at disinterest. He tried to push her away but she kept coming back. After hearing what she’d gone through when he was missing, then dead and buried, he understood that she wasn’t going to let him go without a fight.
That fear evaporated when he saw his son for the first time. Red and screaming in Scully’s arms, her own face white and nearly lifeless, hair plastered to her cheeks with sweat. In that moment, it all became clear. He loved this child and would die to keep him safe. His fear was replaced by a primal urge to protect. He lifted up Scully, exhausted and bleeding and clinging to their son, and carried them to the helicopter without thinking. He only had one imperative now: To love his son.
He thought he was acting on that obligation when he left at Scully’s urging. But seven months later, he realizes he’s wrong. Fueled by bitter gas station coffee and instinctual need, he drives through the night, devouring the miles that separate him from them. Adrenaline and yearning render sleep unnecessary.
On the second night of his son’s first Hanukkah, he finally makes it home.
He knocks lightly on her door, then hears her soft, barefoot steps on the other side. The shadow of her feet darken the doorway and he knows she sees him through the peephole. He hears her stepping away from the door and sliding open the drawer to the small side table in her entryway. She’s retrieving her weapon, and he doesn’t blame her. Then, she unbolts the door and is standing in front of him.
She looks tired, gaunt with deep hollows around her eyes. She’s thinner than she was even before the baby and her skin is so pale it’s nearly translucent. He imagines he doesn’t look much better himself. The months apart weren’t kind to either of them.
“Is it really you?” she asks, taking a step back, her eyes wide with terror and hope.
He wants to reach out and hold her close to him, to feel the shape of her body and inhale her scent, but he doesn’t want to scare her.
“The one and only Fox Mulder.” He gives her a tentative smile. “We used to share an office, rarely agreed on anything, but managed to swap enough genetic material to create one perfect baby boy who I’ve missed desperately. Sound familiar?”
She doesn’t walk towards him as much as fall into him, wrapping her arms around him and burying her head in his chest. “Mulder,” she whispers against the fabric of his wrinkled t-shirt.
He’s been awake for over 36 hours and he’s beyond unkempt. He’s long crossed the line between stubble and bearded and hasn’t showered in three days, but she doesn’t seem to mind as he presses a kiss to the crown of her head and pulls her in tighter. He feels her birdlike bones through her clothes.
She pulls back to look into his eyes. They’re both crying and smiling now as he leans in to kiss her. Her lips are slightly chapped, the way he knows they always get in winter, and he parts them with his own to deepen the kiss. She tastes like tea and tears and home. He wants to stay like this forever, but there’s someone else he needs to see.
“Where’s William?” he asks, his face still close to hers.
“Come,” she says, leading him by the hand. “I was just putting him down.”
He follows Scully into her spare bedroom that’s now been transformed into a nursery. When he left, William was still sleeping in the bassinet next to her bed and most of the nursery furniture was still unassembled. He hates thinking that she did this on her own. William lies in a blonde wood crib in the middle of the room. He’s gazing up at a mobile of floating moons and planets through heavy eyelids.
“Can I?” he asks, reaching down to pick up the baby.
Scully nods.
More than half a year has passed since he last held William and he’s shocked by how much he’s changed. The boy is heavier in Mulder’s arms. As he’s lifted up by unfamiliar hands he becomes more alert. He holds his head up on his own, reaches out to grab his father’s face, and smiles a big, gummy smile with a hint of pearly white teeth breaking through. He has a dusting of light hair and his mother’s bright blue eyes.
“He’s incredible,” he whispers to her.
“I know,” she says, wiping away tears.
He’s spent seven months imagining this moment and his only regret is that it took him so long to come back.
“You didn’t tell me you were coming,” she says.
“You never would have let me,” he says, and she doesn’t argue.
“When are you leaving?” she asks.
“I’m not,” he says definitively.
“Mulder,” she sighs, the pain evident behind her eyes. “You can’t stay. You know that.”
“No, Scully, I don’t,” he says. “There’s been no credible threat or any evidence that my being here puts us in danger. It’s killing me to be so far away from both of you, and if you try to tell me you don’t feel the same way I know you’re lying.”
“It’s not that simple,” she says, bringing her hand to cup his elbow.
“It is,” he insists. “It’s exactly that simple. I love you, I love our son, and I need to be here with you. You know we have a better shot fighting off any threat together than we do apart. We’ve been a good team for nine years, Scully. Let’s not break up the squad just yet—especially when we’ve got this promising new rookie.”
She laughs softly but hot tears are running down her cheeks. He leans in to kiss them away, still holding William in between them.
“Unless I’m cramping your style here.” He smiles
“Never,” she says with a sharp exhale, catching her breath as she cries.
“Tell me everything about him.”
They make their way to her couch and William falls asleep in his arms as she tells him everything he’s missed. William sleeps through the night and can sit up on his own. He eats oatmeal, mashed up bananas, and applesauce, and she wants to try peanut butter next to make sure he’s not allergic. He isn’t crawling yet but can roll over on the floor and reach for toys. It’s all equally mundane and miraculous.
It’s been over an hour before he takes his eyes off her and the baby long enough to notice the menorah on her kitchen table. She has two candles lit, plus the taller one in the middle, the shamash.
“What’s that, Scully?” he asks, taking one hand off William’s warm back to point to the menorah. “You go and convert while I was gone?”
“It’s your heritage,” she says.
“Oh Scully, you didn’t have to do that,” He’s surprised by how choked up he feels. He hasn’t owned a menorah in his entire adult life.
“I was so scared he’d never get the chance to know you,” she says, “and I wanted something he could share with you.”
“And you went with a menorah instead of a scale model of the Starship Enterprise?”
It earns him a warm smile. “Maybe next year,” she says.
He watches the candles burning, translucent wax slowly seeping down their sides. For the first time in months, he feels like he’s in the right place at the right time. He’s done running. His family is here and he isn’t going anywhere.
He’s not scared of hurting his son. There’s so much good he can pass down to William—how to read a box score and see an entire game unfolding in a string of numbers, how to spot constellations twinkling in the night sky, how to make Scully laugh. It’s not a terrible heritage afterall.

Bruce Springsteen Re-releases “We Shall Overcome” to Mark MLK Day in United States
- Seeger Sessions Band performance hails from 2006 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage festival
Bruce Springsteen re-released his 2006 performance of “We Shall Overcome” to mark Martin Luther King Day in the United States.
Backed by the Seeger Sessions Band at the 2006 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage festival, Springsteen wrote an all-American arrangement featuring acoustic and pedal-steel guitars; brass; dual violins; upright bass and light percussion; and a chorus of male and female backgrounds to create a celebratory version of the often-a capella song of somber perseverance.
It’s a slow build, from Springsteen solo to full-band participation that seems a deliberate message within a message. For anyone who missed the point, Springsteen elaborated.
“There’s the beautiful quote by Dr. King that says the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice,” he said in a statement.
“I’ve lived long enough to see that in action and to put some faith in it. I’ve also lived long enough to know that arc doesn’t bend on its own. It needs all of us leaning on it, nudging it in the right direction day after day.”

Someone commented on Freefall today to ask if Miri's class was bard, and it really got me thinking about how different her life would have been in her canon timeline if the people in her life recognized the skills that came naturally to her instead of forcing her into the Taveric family legacy. She spent so much of her life in the shadow of her sister who is seven years younger than her and inherited their father's gift for wizardry. Her older brother is following in their father's footsteps as an artificer to eventually take over the family business. But Miriam? Her grandmother is from a nomadic tribe in the Anauroch that migrated south several generations back and currently reside near the Alamir mountains in eastern Calimshan. Magic runs in their blood too, and it's raw and unfiltered and, most of all, taught in a very, very different manner from the structure of the life she was given. And out of the three Taveric kids, she's the one who inherited her grandmother's artistry and wanderlust and desire to create for the sake of creating.
The problem is, that trait skipped a generation, and she spends her youth relatively shut away from her heritage because her mother ran away from her culture and never looked back. And the irony is she may have made a pretty fine artificer if she'd just been allowed to learn via the fuck around and find out method, but her introduction to the Weave was steeped in theoretical magic and memorization, and she just doesn't grasp it because she isn't wired that way.
So she grows up thinking she's broken. That maybe the powers her family members wield so easily just passed her by, and she's never given an alternative to her future.
Now, a big part of her later arc deals with the fact that she does have sorcery in her blood, and after she gets involved with her pact and starts exploring magic more freely, she begins to learn how to use that power. But at that point she doesn't know it comes from within, because the idea that she does have it in her is so foreign to her at this point that she doesn't even consider it within the realm of possibility. So even when she does develop those skills, she's convinced they're tied to her patron, and ofc her patron goes ahead and lets her think she's nothing without the power he grants her, because he's got a vested interest in her feeding his power in return with every kill she racks up.
But what if she's been allowed to indulge her instincts growing up? If her magic had been encouraged in the way she needed, or even if she'd been allowed a bardic pursuit early on? If someone would have told her it's okay to be undisciplined and wild sometimes, it's okay to be distracted by the color of the sky or the sound of rain hitting the paving stones? To tug at the magic that feels right instead of constantly inscribing spells that never seem to stick in a spell book she's constantly misplacing anyway? Bard or sorcerer would have been the natural choice, and if she'd been allowed that she probably would have been seen as an equal to her sister instead of held up as a cautionary tale. Instead, she runs away from her responsibilities, falls in with a dangerous crowd, and makes choices that are objectively bad but also narratively consistent to the idea that everything she does is fueled by a need to prove to herself she's better than what people have told her she is.
Anyway in the end I feel like she and Gale getting involved is a bit like lighting a match next to a puddle of gasoline. Suddenly he's got someone validating everything he's been second guessing. She's got someone who's encouraging her deranged ideas because what's discovery without a little risk? They have broken the brake pedal off of the clown car and are passionately making out on top of the accelerator. Nobody is holding their leash; in fact, it's lying shredded in a ditch as we speak. They're going to Do Things and they aren't going to necessarily be Smart Things but by the gods they're gonna be the Most Characters of all time or die trying.
#miriam taveric#fanfic meta#diz writes#its 2am and I'm drowning in my clown feelings like i didnt invent all of this myself#in an ideal world she'd probably be a sorcerer with like three levels in bard but alas#her life is kind of a cosmic joke 🥲

Day 4 - Hastings to Tweed - 86 km
Moderately hilly
Today things changed, the weather was cooler (good) but the trail wasn’t to the standards of the first 3 days (not good) and there was a strong headwind (not good).
Last night I stayed at my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s home (Rich & Karen). Probably not available to other travellers but there is at least one B&B in Hastings, Hastings House B&B. Is anyone picking up on a trend with my accommodation habits?
The day started riding through farmland and crossing plenty of rivers with the sounds of birds and frogs.
A peaceful ride along the historic Trent-Severn Waterway. Later I crossed the river via the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge.
At times the trail was rough, so rough that it was like riding on a dried up river bed – rocks the size of golf bases and sometimes the size of baseballs, potholes a foot deep, washboard surface, and soft gravel so thick that it felt like riding in soft sand. The portion from Campbellford to the point where I turned north onto the Hastings Heritage Trail was terrible. Riding required 100% concentration to snake my way along the trail, avoiding the worst spots, so I missed a lot of the scenery today. By the end of the day my knees, my butt, and my shoulders all ached.
Not a large rock but it looked like one as I approached it.
While many parts of the trail were adequate, the path between Campbellford to the Hastings Heritage Trail was the worst segment.
All terrain vehicles (ATVs) are permitted on the trail in this part of the trail, and, maybe 30% of the trail riders that I saw today seemed to think that they are riding on the TCT Speedway as well as feeling entitled to fishtail along the trail, completely ripping up the surface. Some of these ATVs are the size of Hummers. I find it interesting that large ATVs can ride on the trail when small SUVs can't. Hmmm?
At one point I tried to ride on the road. I quickly decided that riding the trail was easier than pedalling up steep hills and into a strong headwind.
In fairness to the TCT, it is called the Trans Canada Trail and not the Trans Canada Road or the Trans Canada Sideway. I think that I have been spoiled by the quality of the trail my first 3 days. It's very good for walking, hiking, mountain biking, and fat tire biking, just challenging for a hybrid bike like mine.
Tweed has a nice beach and North America's small jailhouse.

Day Ninety-eight
14 weeks in now! And today is a doubke milestone day!
Up with the dawn light to start getting prepped to hit the road once more at the hostel by St Just this morning. The wind has finally died down and it's another beautiful sunny day ahead.
Out from the hostel and up into the hills I go, heading south past Land's End airport for a brief stint on the A30 to roll on down to the iconic Land's End.
That is the west coast done! And having ridden through John O'Groates back at the start of July, I guess this could count as riding JOGLE at a stretch haha.
I have a good soak in of the impressive views and make surento grab an obligatory photo with the signpost, before getting back in the saddle and back to it.
A little up the A30, I head off onto the B3315 to take the path around the south stretch of the coastline, up and down plenty of hills as the road twists it's way along to reach Mount Bay at Mousehole.
The view across the bay in the clear day is simply beautiful, with St Michael's Mount glinting in the sun.
It's a fantastic route ahead for a while as the road leads down around the bay, past the harbour at Newlyn and into the town of Penzance.
The waterfront is filled with plenty of other tourists making the most of the amazing weather, and past the train station there's a lovely off-traffic path to ride right along the seafront all the way to Marazion.
Past the beach here, the road begins a steady climb up and up to join onto the busy A394 as it heads around the coast to Helston. There's not much option but to get the legs pumping and sweat it out as the miles tumble by, but thankfully the gradients of the numerous climbs aren't too bad.
With a big drop down into Helston, there is of course an accompanying steep climb back up to switch off onto the slightly less busy A3083 as ut leads past RNAS Culdrose and begins a long trek south along the peninsula here.
It's another day of heavy work in the beating sun ad I keep on pedalling down the road, but with a bit more sweat and effort the road eventually leads down to the little town of Lizard, with a descent down to the cliffsides to bring me to Lizard Point, the most southerly extreme point of Great Britain.
Along with Lowestoft Ness, Dunnet Head, and Corrachadh Mòr, I've now been to all four of the cardinal extremes of the island!
Damn that's one hell of a milestone to chalk off! Whilst I knew it'd inevitably happen as a part of this journey, it's still sinking in a bit to have gotten that done.
There's still a good bit of light left in the day yet though, so after a short break to grab some precious shade from the heat of the sun, it's back out from Lizard and onto the road once more.
I turn off the A road at Mount Hermon to head around into the Lizard Heritage Coast, with lots of wide moorland covering the landscape.
With the roads further east looking pretty horrible for navigation, I start slogging a bit more northerly to roll past the farm plains by Travoe, before having a nice charge along the B road to stop by the awesome satellite array at Goonhilly Earth Station.
keeping on the B3293, I head past Garras and turn off to head down into a beautiful forested valley full of tributaries to the nearby Helford River, before crossing it at Gweek.
It's more climbing up from here as the road heads up between some dense farmland on its way east to get back to the coast once more.
After spying a bridleway on the slog uphill, I had a chance investigation and managed to find a reasonable little sheltered nook around here, so with all the miles and heat of today I think it's time to call it there.
What a day! It feels almost scarily like approaching the home stretch now I'm on to the south coast. There's still a good few hundreds of miles to go yet of course, and the West Country will keep on being challenging awhile yet, but the miles are ticking down.
TTFN!

Hashima Island, Japan
Ghost Town 03
Population: 5,259 (1959) - 0 (2016)
Country: Japan
Years active: 1887-1974
Why Was It Abandoned?
Hashima Island was known for its undersea coal mines during the industrialisation of Japan in 1887.
In 1974, the mines were closed due to the depletion of coal and the use of petroleum in place of coal, which led to many coal mines shutting down across the country. The residents of the island left soon after, and Hashima Island remained abandoned for the following three decades.
In the 2000s, Hashima Island attracted tourists and gained interest because of its untouched historic ruins. This led to Hashima Island being open to tourists on April 22, 2009 and being protected/restored.
Island Life
Originally on Takashima island, an island that was not far from Hashima, the Fukahori family owned the property as feudal lords and took advantage of the profitable opportunities that coal on the island brought. Coal mining was the basis of the local economy and residents were only seen as workers on the island. Due to the increasing demand of coal in the Western continents such as the UK and US for their steam ships in the 1850′s, Thomas B. Glover brought British equipment to the island coal reserves around Nagasaki, which advanced technology and mining practices in 1869 and introduced a new age of coal mining. Because of the success and increase in foreign currency, Fukahori decided to expand on neighboring islands, which is how Hashima Island became a coal mining island.
Around 15.7 million tons of coal were mined and excavated between 1891 and 1974. Coal was used by many Japanese people to heat their homes. They called this “goheita” after the legend about a man who stumbled upon the use of coal by accident.
In 1916, Japan’s first large reinforced concrete building was built to home the workers of the mines. The material used to build the structures pedaled Japan into a new era of architecture. They used concrete as protection against typhoons.
Over the next 55 years, Hashima Island began to grow. Apartment blocks, schools, a hospital, town hall, community centre, clubhouse, cinema, communal bath, swimming pool, rooftop gardens, shops, and a pachinko parlour were built for the miners and their families who lived on the island.
The economy on Hashima Island can be best described as socialist. Housing, electricity, and water were all free for the workers as long as they contributed to public work and territory clean up. The residents of Hashima Island had to depend on the outer world for food, clothes, and other articles of commerce. Fresh water was also delivered to the island until 1957 when tubes connected Hashima Island with water reservoirs on the mainland. This was inconvenient for islanders because of the potential threat of storms preventing sailing to Hashima Island for more than a day.
Until 1963, Hashima Island was just mountains and rock. That was until the “green campaign”, where Hashima residents brought soil from the mainland to the island to create roof gardens where they could grow vegetables and flowers. This also temporarily brought more “life and energy” to the island to lessen its gloomy appearance.
During the 1930’s until the end of World War II, conscripted Koreans and Chinese prisoners of war were forced to work under brutal treatment at the Mitsubishi facility as forced labourers under Japanese wartime mobilization policies. Many labourers died on the island from underground accidents, exhaustion, and malnutrition.
Today Hashima Island attracts many locals from Japan to tour on the island. Hashima Island also eventually became a World Heritage center, but on the condition that the government acknowledges the history of Hashima’s forced labor of Koreans. This was agreed upon, but due to the understatements made about Hashima Island’s forced labor from the Japanese government and addressing it as “work” instead of “forced labor” and disregarding the islands history has made a lot of Koreans and Japanese citizens feel as though the government cares more about the country’s reputation rather than the events and impact it’s had on workers. This is also supported by the fact that the history of Hashima Island’s forced labor is not taught in Japanese schools, which leaves many Japanese citizens unaware of the island’s history and cruelty to conscripted Koreans and war prisoners.
Victims of forced labor have described their experiences on Hashima Island as “a living hell”. Victims mention of how they were forced to work 12 hours a day in the mines while suffering from hunger.
The Nagaski Peace Museum, established in 1995, was created by Japanese citizens to publicize the truth about Japan’s history and demand compensation and apology to the foreign victims of Japan during World War II.

rich kids - new medicine .
i coulda went to college like rich kids do // buying weed with the money that your mom sent you // but I don't give a damn about no higher degree // cause you know in rock & roll, i got a phd, bitch // we got all that we need, packed it up in the van // put the pedal to the floor, gave the finger to the man // i'm not a rich kid, maybe that's a good thing // ain't got shit, but i got this far // keepin it real & rhymin & stealin // doing what i want
the whole attitude in this song is peak ciaran energy. ciaran has never had money, his family never had money, he never cared for money & especially people who have money. he has a strong loyalty to the lower & working class because he grew up with them, the struggles but also the solidarity. fighting for the rights of the lower & working class is a big deal to his punk heritage & he will carry it with him to the grave.
i love you like an alcoholic - the taxpayers .
i was getting off the late shift attempting to recover // crumpled up the bus pass, tossed it into the gutter // some handsome dark stranger, you were standing there on the corner // you had those compelling magnetized eyes // you must have lost when you got older // seven blocks in, my fingers brushed your hand // i blushed & you laughed, but you seemed a little sad // i ain't one to jump a ship, but i absolutely knew // i was six steps in when I fell into you // one last kiss // i love you like a broken pot // one last kiss // i love you like a pack of dogs // one last kiss // i need you like I need a gaping head wound
this song doesn't only fit ciaran due to his high functioning alcoholism, but it also encapsulate his relationship with his exes a great deal. the way he is attracted to things that are toxic for him is very well described through the lyrics of this song.
that's so gay - pansy division . i heard what you said, i'm not stupid, you know // what do you take me for? hetero? // the next time you say it, make sure i can't hear // 'cause you're pissing me off, is that clear? // heard what you said; just a figure of speech? // if you meant nothing by it, practice what you preach // the next time you say it, you better think twice // some pissed off f*ggot may not take it too nice // what'd he say? he said "that's so gay" // what'd he say? he said "that's so gay" // & if you say it again, there'll be hell to pay // i'll show you what it's like to be gay
this song is such a ciaran song from the voice, the execution & the lyrics. ciaran had to learn very young that the only way he would survive in this world as an openly gay man would be to challenge those who bullied him. he immediately learned to fight for himself, throw a mean punch & get to them before they can get to him. this song is exactly what i hear when i imagine ciaran getting in brawls with bigots in bars.
losemyhead - littledeath .
we could go and find ourselves a car to crash // or we could go and toss bottles off the overpass // if we tear apart the cushions for a little cash // we could buy a couple papers and a tank of gas // if we bargain with the devil, make the night our day // there ain't a single thing we wouldn't sign away // so we could grab ourselves a baggie, never leave the haze // light em', up light em' up 'til we don't know our names // oh, rock bottom // oh, rock bottom // oh rock bottom never looked so good
this song of course had to be in here. this song was the first song that i dubed "ciaran & mal's song" & i was obsessed with it after max sent it to me, so much it became my third most listened to through the whole year. the song is a great example to show ciaran's free spirit, his need for adventure, adrenaline & freedom. it also shows why he & mal work together so well; they are equally as crazy.
sorry about your car - savannah saturn .
the lot was empty // late at night // no one could see me // reach for my bag // & pull out a key // so baby, i'll meet you in hell // i could never tell // if this was just a dream // now I'll just sit for myself // wondering when // the cops will come for me // i'm sorry, i'm sorry // i shouldn't let it get this far // & now i just feel // sorry for your car // should i have cut the brakes // or is that too far? this is mostly a joke, but also... not really. it's a nod to how ciaran famously put his ex's car on fire after he cheated. ciaran is not forgiving; he is petty, & is not scared of committing arson, so stay on his good side.
#( c i a r a n ) headcanons .#( o o c ) dash games .#i couldve picked 10 more songs#bc my ciaran playlist is so good
