[19.03.11] I just have to say i am so thankful for my life. Thank you God for a wild ride. I never would have thought i would have dancers on stage with me, or that i’d be dressed like an emotional pop tart singing my heart out to shanghai with my best friend @iamenik. But thank you to everyone. There were moments i thought i would never be on stage again, but somehow i find myself there, where i am most comfortable. What a crazy life this is.

Riversol is offering a free 15 day test of their skincare regimen (you can find it here), so I decided to give it a try. It claims to be for sensitive skin, to reduce wrinkles, dark spots, fine lines, sun damage, and to even out skin tone and pigmentation. It includes a gel cleanser, a serum, moisturizer, and an exfoliating glycolic peel. The packaging was somewhat problematic, but they did include a hand written (or at least it looked hand written and it was personalized) note, which I thought was nice, and instructions. I was really looking forward to using this, but ended up stopping early.

Let’s start with the packaging. Envelopes might be more cost effective with these samples, and might be easier to ship, but they aren’t very good for controlling the amount of product used. I’ve gotten enough samples of cleanser, moisturizers, serums, and masks in tubes and small jars (with and without droppers) to think they could send the samples in a much easier to use and control format. Plus these envelopes, while notched, didn’t tear open easily, and they made storage a little more difficult. I think the packaging is part of why there didn’t seem to be enough product to last the full 15 days if the regimen is followed as instructed (I actually did not start using it twice a day when instructed because I usually just rinse my face with warm water in the morning and go VERY light on my daytime moisturizer).

The Refreshing Gel Cleanser is supposed to remove impurities, unclog pores, relieve irritation and inflammation, and improve texture. This didn’t lather the way I’m used to cleansers doing, and it certainly didn’t clean as well as either the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser or the fresh Soy Face Cleanser I’ve used in the past because my toner pads came up dirty (which they don’t for either of the other cleansers, even after removing makeup). My t-zone felt smooth but a touch dry and my dry spots felt even drier than I’m used to a cleanser making them. On the plus side, it didn’t irritate my skin, but that’s about the only plus I can give it.

The Daily Moisturizing Cream claims to instantly deeply rehydrate, relieve irritation and inflammation, and improve texture. This was similar in texture and consistency to the philosophy Hope in a Jar that I use at night: it’s a creamy but relatively heavy moisturizer, which is why I didn’t start using it during the day when instructed. It would be just too much for my skin. You don’t need to use much of it at all, so this was one of the two products that had more than enough for the trial, even if used twice a day as instructed. However, I didn’t like the way it felt on my skin—it felt kind of greasy and looked shiny when applied—and it did not absorb quickly at all and left my skin almost tacky. It took until the third use before it felt like it absorbed even by morning.

The Anti-Aging Serum claims to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, dark spots, and uneven skin tone and improve texture. This really could have used a dropper style packaging because it’s VERY loose and the envelopes made it the most difficult to control. It dries down pretty quickly, though it still left my skin feeling somewhat tacky. I also started getting more pimples than usual a few days after starting it. They weren’t the angry red kind of pimples, and it’s quite possible something else was going on, but the problem has persisted through my use of it.

The Exfoliating Glycolic Peel was the most problematic for me. It claims to unclog pores and improve texture, and there was more than enough to use it more than once during the trial, but no way was I going to after the first time. Despite being called an exfoliating peel, it didn’t seem to be either. My skin felt smooth but dry, and my skin seemed more sensitive after use, even to my radiance pads (which are definitely gentle) which still came up dirtier than with just my usual cleansers alone. My skin felt more sensitive and irritated overall, and there was some mild itchiness that persisted for a couple of days after I used it. And the pimples and sensitivity increased.

As you can see from time lapse photos, not much of anything changed in my skin either. The only plus side to the Riversol products was that the color improvements I’d started to see from my previous regimen weren’t lost even after the peel.

So domy tried this and isn’t impressed. It obviously works for some people, but it didn’t for me. I ended the trial early because the issues that started during the trial weren’t getting better, and in fact only seemed to get worse after the peel. I can’t recommend it, but I’m also aware that skincare is even more individual than most other makeup. The trial is free, so it’s not like people lose much by trying it, but I would patch the different elements of the back of my hand to make sure there’s no adverse reactions. It may be for sensitive skin, but my skin (which hasn’t been especially sensitive in the past) reacted badly to it.

Among the freebies incoming or already here waiting to be tried are an Ocean Mist Mineral Makeup Kit (will probably not be reviewed until summer, when I tend to use powder foundation), some Everyday Minerals makeup samples (ditto), PCA Acne Gel, C E Ferulic Serum, a Loreal moisturizer, a couple lip balms, and a new Pearlosophy cleanser. Most of this stuff is shipped but hasn’t arrived yet, and with the holidays, I’m not expecting it to all be in this month. I’d like to review most the actual skincare at once, but we’ll see how it shakes out.

And, yes, I’m having way too much fun with the freebies. Mostly. ;)
