The Solitary Woods
words: 993
content: birth, fpreg
The spell was potent and irreversible. August knew this for certain; she had tried every counter-charm, backlog hex, nullification ingredient she could uncover, attempting to undo what she’d done. No, there was only one way to reverse an accidental pregnancy spell, and it required nine months of waiting and a dark, solitary forest where no one would hear your screams.
August stood over a pile of black leaves, thighs spread. She pressed her hands into the small of her back, aching and impatient. She wore only a string-drawn leather tunic and a long ankle skirt. Her bare abdomen was a massive pale moon, distended navel an angry crater in the middle, blemishing the smooth, taut surface. The belly was alive, violently rippling, loaded with babies, and August moved her hands from her back to her swollen front, cradling. She gazed at the marvelous arching mound with a kind of horror and stupefaction. She could feel the positioning of the first baby, deep in her hips, splitting with pressure and fullness and weight. Runes of black ink wrapped its circumference, drawn in hopes that they would incite labor.
“Gods,” August sighed. “I need to get these out of me.”
She suffered the first slow contractions, pacing the clearing in the woods as her low hanging moon-belly seized and constricted, visibly shrinking around her crowded womb. Her pacing grew slower, heavier, and soon she could barely walk, cupping her belly as it swung, stance bowlegged, gait dragging.
She felt obscene, horrifically swollen and stretched out of proportion, belly like a foreign object on her middle. Divine femininity—bah. She had rejected all that when she’d joined the coven. Now though. Now, she looked like a breeding cow.
Another contraction. The pressure reached a peak. She pulled her head back and pressed her lips together, positioned above the patch of black leaves.
Suddenly she opened her mouth and dropped into a squat, bottom thrust out. “Ohhhh—OH.”
Fluid burst from between her legs and puddled the leaves beneath her. She looked down in shock.
“Gods, this is it. O-o-okay, this is it, okay.”
A heat flash left her sweating, and she suddenly felt the need to remove her clothing. Her body was telling her it was time for her baby to come out, and as the next contraction ripped through her belly it was accompanied this time by a strong urge to push, like nothing she’d ever felt before.
She hurriedly pulled up her skirt, exposing her auburn bush, squatted, and pushed. The baby moved down quickly, thrust between her hips by her internal muscles.
“Oh gods,” she bellowed, bending her knees and pushing again. Her belly continued to contract, forcing her into a long push that felt endless. Her face reddened, teeth gritted. Barely any air escaped. She was pushing too hard.
Thrall to her body, the need to give birth was like a spell cast over her. She let her knees sink to the forest floor, unrelenting in her groaning birthing efforts. Instinctively, she sensed that hands and knees would allow for a more continuous pushing effort. All she wanted to do was push. No, not a want. A need. She needed to push.
She thrust her hips in the air, back bowed with the weight of her curving belly. It felt as though an entire melon was being forced through her birth canal and into her bottom. The pressure was even more intense than before, an immense weight now filling her entire lower half, soon to emerge. She moved her hips in smooth circles, trying to relieve the pressure between them. Her belly scraped the forest floor.
“C’mooonn.” Her voice was tight and deep with pushing.
The contraction ended, leaving her panting on all fours, animalistic. She sweated bullets.
Reaching behind her, she groped behind the hair between her legs for a head, and only felt her swollen, aching pussy. She growled in frustration, and tried pushing again, but without a contraction it was like forcing a stone through her.
So big, she thought. Too big. She had never wanted to get pregnant, much less give birth. Now she had to push out a whole load of babies, all because they were in her body, uterus swelling relentlessly against her own will.
Her belly went hard again. She immediately dove into a long push, and felt the baby slide thoroughly into her birth canal. She clutched her compressed belly, not even recognizing the sounds she was making anymore, and soon her skirt began to tent outwards.
“Yessss. Get OUT of me—!”
She cupped her bulging pussy under her skirt. It was a horror, feeling her lips beginning to part, so misshapen with the massive head. Fluids ran between her fingers. She howled as the head reached a full crown, lips stretched in a tight circle. She didn’t want to push any more. A hot iron burned her delicate lips. She tried to breathe, but her body wanted this baby out, now. She was enveloped in another push. Her lips widened impossibly, close to snapping, the forehead, ears, nose slipping under her thin flesh, and she could feel everything, unable to stop pushing.
“Ugh!” The head burst free in a spray of fluids.
The shoulders pushed, straining at her inner walls, and she painstakingly climbed to her feet. The dripping head brushed between her thighs, her pussy full with the baby, dangling out of her now. She ripped down her skirt and pushed again.
“GET OUUUUTTT!!” she screamed.
The shoulders popped through her pussy and more fluids gushed from her as the baby slipped into her waiting hands. She gasped, falling to her knees. It stirred something inside her, something she dreaded could be motherhood.
The woods were still echoing with her screams and the squalling of her baby when her belly grew stony again.
“Oh…” August said, remembering the two other babies now sliding into position, body readying her for birth again. “Hecate, help me.”

The Best News of Last Week - November 28, 2023
🐑 - Why did Fiona the sheep become a mountaineer? She was tired of the "baa-d" jokes at sea level!
1. Pope Francis dines with transgender women for Vatican luncheon
Pope Francis hosted a group of transgender women — many of whom are sex workers or migrants from Latin America — to a Vatican luncheon for the Catholic Church's "World Day of the Poor" last week.
The pontiff and the transgender women have formed a close relationship since the pope came to their aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they were unable to work. Now, they meet monthly for VIP visits with the pope and receive medicine, money and shampoo any day, according to The Associated Press.
2. New York just installed its first offshore wind turbine
The first wind turbine installation at South Fork Wind, New York State’s first offshore wind farm, is complete.
The 130-megawatt (MW) South Fork Wind will be the US’s first completed utility-scale wind farm in federal waters.
3. Anonymous businessman donates $800k to struggling food bank
But this Thanksgiving, a longtime prayer of food bank leaders was finally answered: an anonymous benefactor donated the full $800,000 they needed to move out of a facility they've long outgrown. That benefactor, however, preferred to stay anonymous.
"Very private company, really don't want attention," said Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank. "It's a goodhearted person that just wants to see the work here continue, wants to see it expand."
4. Empowering woman saving hopes and mental health of suffering Ukrainian kids
Kenza Hadij-Brahim is at the forefront of promoting Circle of Toys
Hadj-Brahim is helping to launch the Circle of Toys initiative. A project that provides Ukrainian children in need of some normality with preloved toys. This new initiative connects people with old toys they might otherwise throw away, with Ukrainian families in need who want to provide some comfort to their children in this distressing time.
Find Refuge said : “The endeavour is driven by a sincere purpose: spark joy, foster play, and bring a hint of normalcy back to the young lives in Ukraine.”
5. TWO LOST CITIES HIDDEN FOR CENTURIES WERE JUST DISCOVERED IN BOLIVIA
Researchers have found these areas not only housed structures and pyramids but it has been uncovered that there were advanced irrigation systems, earthworks, large towns, causeways, and canals that cover miles.
Dr. Heiko Prümers from the German Archaeological Institute, who was also involved in the study comments that “this indicated a relatively dense settlement in pre-Hispanic times. Our goal was to conduct basic research and trace the settlements and life there. The research sheds light on the sheer magnitude and magnificence of the civic-ceremonial centers found buried in the forest”.
6. Sheep dubbed Fiona rescued from cliff in Scotland where she was stuck for more than 2 years
youtube
And at last, some positive climate news:
7. Three positive climate developments
Heating
When the Paris Agreement was adopted, the global reliance on fossil fuels placed the world on a path towards a 3.5C rise in temperature by 2100. Eight years on, country commitments to reduce their carbon footprints have pulled that down slightly, putting the world on a path for a 2.5C to 2.9C by the end of the century.
Peak emissions
Annual greenhouse gas emissions responsible for climate change have risen roughly nine percent since COP21, according to UN data. But the rate of the increase has slowed significantly. Recent estimates by the Climate Analytics institute find global emissions could peak by 2024
Rising renewables
Three technologies—solar, wind and electric vehicles—are largely behind the improved global warming estimates since 2015.

Big Foot's Baby - Part One
Crystal gripped tightly onto his arm as she frantically panted through the strong surge. She moaned, desperate for breath as the pain became unbearable. She clutched harder as the peak rapidly approached. Crystal looked into his concerned eyes and whispered,
"It won't be long now! I can do this! I promised I would do this for you!"
The peak suddenly erupted. Crystal howled out wildly. Immediately, her body contracted hard. She was forced into a deep squat and a long screaming push. Breathing heavily, she tried to maintain her composure. Panting in and out rapidly, she strained down on the heaviness between her thighs. Spreading her legs wider, she squatted over the nature bed and screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Oh I think it's time! Oh its coming! It is finally ready to come!"
Pulling roughly on his wrist, Crystal pushed with all her strength. Her cries became primal. Her entire body trembled with the full force of attempting to deliver this offspring.
Big Foot came around and began to support Crystal in his strong arms. She layed back against his warmth before the pain forced her forward again and again. She yelled, shoving down through the torturous stretching at her opening. The pounding of the enormous head was slamming harder with each strenuous push.
"Oh its coming! I can do this! I can do this! Oh help me! Oh please make it come! Oh it hurts!"
Crystal was becoming delirious with the torture of the birth. Her bravery was soon reduced to pleading for the ordeal to end.
"Oh please just get it out! I can't take it! Please make it stop! Do something! Anything! Make it come out of me RIGHT NOW!"
Crystal howled and pushed and screamed in total agony. The gigantic head slowly parted her burning lips. It was slow, excruciating torture. She yelled through the constant need to bear down, making little progress with each new effort.
Big Foot gently started to rub between her legs. Crystal moaned in gratitude. He became faster and rougher. Her moaning turned in intense cries in seconds. Her laboring body twisted powerfully as a monstrous orgasm built in her core. Drenched in perspiration, Crystal widened her legs and prepared herself. Her nails dug into his muscular thighs. Spasming, the eruption of her climax was explosive. Her roaring explosion followed the biggest, longest push! Her birthing cries could be heard all the way through the forest.
"Its coming! Its coming! IT IS COMING! I AM GIVING BIRTH RIGHT NOW!"
Spasming violently, the birther squeezed down over her throbbing entrance. The massive dome was dropping through her with the quaking force slamming through her birth canal. It felt like a million fire crackers were exploding at her opening.
Convulsing in his arms, Crystal tried to maintain her focus as the oversized head positioned into a full crown position. Not able to stop pushing, the birther kept fighting the tremendous pressure. She lost her balance for a moment but Big Foot held her firmer in place.
"I AM GIVING BIRTH! I AM BIRTHING BIG FOOT'S BABY!"
Crystal reached between her legs and felt the damp, huge and hair filled crown. It was the biggest shape she had ever experienced. And she was pushing it out of herself!
The pain strangely began to ease after it crowned. Crystal was able to rest against Big Foot and closed her eyes to regain her strength. She would need it all to deliver his offspring.

Mika and her husband has a huge birth fetish. They arrange some sort of game to enjoy the birth and labor. The game separated into 3 phase
Phase 1
when in labor, Mika stuck a dildo in he vagina through her birth canal. Then put on tight underwear and yoga pants (this will important later). Her husband drove them to the remote cabin that so far from their house. Now the game really start. After got into the cabin. Her husband will do what ever to Mika body. After some begging her husband take off the yoga pants. Some times later take off the dildo
Phase 2
After take off the dildo, her husband will leave for some times (not for short) and instruct Mika to do not push yet. Mika triying to hold the push but her body didn't listen. She can feel the baby going down, and after some times the head is full crowning. But after some hard push the baby keeping slide back because there is still underwear blocking the baby
Phase 3
"I thought I say don't push" Say her husband walk in while Mika begging. "Now I need to punished bad girl" As he positioned himself at the front of Mika. With his hard as iron cock push the baby back in so deep.
Her husband said if Mika can make her husband cum, he can push for 30 minute. If the baby not born yet, her husband will push the baby back in with his cock.
If mika cum first, her husband can make himself cum 1-3 time with your body
This goes on for some round. Majority of time Mika cum first, but some times her husband cum first
This is a very well fleshed out concept, I like it but do please fix the grammar it really hurts to read, take your time it's okay. Thanks still.
Let's Play A Game
tw: 18+ Minors DNI
Mika & John we're a very intimate couple, they we're close and been expecting an arrival of twins any moment though each had a broad imagination with intense fantasies within their similar urges, yet very opposing.
Mika's fantasies we're far more modest to John's who'd be much more intense with his ravenous thoughts, this really worried her and she told him to tone it down for this very special occasion for the twins safety, yet it seemed he did not listen and she called up a backup in case.
Mika was in consistent discomfort and aches since the day until midnight and afternoon, John was in his room working as she wanted to have fun and rode on her clear dildo as hot, sexy and vigorously as possible, loudly moaning and getting louder and harder until reaching her peak then popping out an intense flush of fluid as she grunts with visible aches.
John overheard, got up and prepared what they'd planned out, she stood up slowly and went to take the dildo off the bed and pushed it back in again, held it in and grabbed her tight panties and uncomfortably pushed it in further with yoga pants, increasing the incredibly hardened cramps & powerful contractions but managed to barely hold up.
For her comfort, he brought a pantyhose for her to put on later when he'd watch her struggle through cloth as they agreed to per promise, she got off the bed and slowly got over to their car with her hand on her back for support & cradling the huge mass constantly aching per agreement.
She got in the backseat, sat down and sneered as she told him "fuck you." he tilted his head and began the engines then driving off in the forest towards the cabin they made.
Mika heaved, she swayed off her hair and leaned back into the cushions, holding onto her contracting womb hoping this would end soon as she rubbed her bump searching to any sort of comfort or soothe to the intense pain building.
Once they reached the cabin, she waddled out the car and he unlocked the empty place and brought her in as she got on her knees and he pulled off her yoga pants for pantyhose over the tight panties for some release or comfort, then he went back and forth to grabbing supplies.
Before he went out to grab the supplies for they planned on, she felt him press on her panties causing her to shriek and heave, shifting over with a lean as he spoke cynically "Don't you dare push until I come back, 'kay and hold on." pulling her pantyhose and tugged onto the dildo and pulling it out.
She wailed, bent over with her golden-red hair draping over with deep sharp inhales, cradling onto her bump with soft grip as she shouts "WATCH IT! Ouuufffhhh! I'm having the twins here so please... egrhhhh, BE CAREFUL!" as he goes with shrugged shoulders and grabbing supplies.
Inhaling sharply and frequently as she massages her bump trying her best not to push, though she felt a pain radiate throughout her abdomen with the first of the twins going down her canal slowly, burning it's way through then with aches and cramps around her back.
As it stopped in the middle of the canal, she inhales tried clamping it in but lacking any success as it slowly moves down with stuttered progress, meeting her lips and pulls them apart and stretching her out further and further.
Her husband wasn't gone for long, he went back and forth and around the house for some other supplies as she tried resisting with all her might but the pain was too much for her to resist and she succumb as she silently bore down.
Pressing the round bump, placing her left fist atop her bump as she silently huffed and sharply inhaled with hard clench of her fists and closed teeth, exhaling with the pain as the head then pops out but then snaps back in from the tight panties.
Unable to resist longer, she began pushing more and harder against her tight panties as she rocked in a pendulum like motion, as the head locked in place from the tightness of the cloth as she pushed out the neck but it slips back inside.
The cycle repeats for ten minutes and her husband returns, with a cynical and sadistic tone spoke "I thought I said don't push yet? I guess you deserve a punishment for disobedient behavior" as he rips through her cloth and laid her down as he drops his pants and drives his snake against the head as Mika shrieks and begs "NO! W- AUGH! WAIT! NO PLEASE! WE DIDN'T AGREE TO THIS *COUGH* WAIT! STOP- NOO! UAAAAGGGHHHH!! JOHN PLEASE!".
The baby was set all the way back, she trembled in pain as he pulls out and she shrieks and huffs as he pressed his arm into her belly, she screams viciously as the baby shoots back to a crown but is painfully stopped by his fingers.
He describes his idea "If you cum before me, I fuck harder and longer and if you make me cum, you get only thirty minutes to push before I push it back in with my cock" an incredibly wide eyed expression rose out of Mika.
He begins to pound her as she grunts with rolling tears, her bump aches and begins to burn as she feels him rampage with her body and resists to try and cum and even through the burning pain, she tries to push but she shrieks with the thrust of his snake inside of her body.
But she fails and cums, he begins to flip her onto her back and begins to fill her up again as she screams from pain, a bruise begins cover her vagina from all the intense force.
Starting a timer on his phone as she groans, shifting down as the crown pops open to the head, she sobs with silence and bore down and pulled her legs up to her head as the shoulders inched out and within two minutes spewed out with the whole upper-body with twenty minutes on time.
Grunting weakly as she pushed her chin into her chest, the baby inched forward and burst out of her, she dropped her legs and placed the baby onto her chest where it laid as it took it's first breath and cry as she shushed it to sleep.
John positioned himself between her thighs and laid away the newborn, she stared fearfully as he pinned her arms & thrusts in as she huffs with open lips and weakly grunts in pain and extreme exshaustion, only able to twitch a finger.
This time she secretly bears down while he thrusts, pursing her lips and taking sharp inhales as she's wracked in hellish contractions and succumbs to the pain, opening her gape and gasps out in worse pain with her attempt to push.
She felt herself ejaculate and he pinned her against the wall and wrapped her arms around her back, thrusting her down onto his thick dick as she hisses and gasps with the burning rising and falling while she visibly aches, her bump turned to a smoothened stone, she faced the ceiling and bore down.
The head moved back and forth inside her as he squeezed into her canal, she felt the pressure push back but it moved forward, she felt her birth reflex kick in as she no longer was pushing but trying to catch her breath as he put her down & she rolled to her side, her crown widened as he left for a bath as she grunted silently, her lips spread to their limit.
Bruised and swollen, she seemed to be bleeding as the head bursts forth as she squeals like a pup with her canals spilling out and she cupped the head, searching for the cord while the other one still remained attached as she needed to push and placed her hands onto her bump, gulping down as she endured the pain without pushing from sheer exshaustion.
The shoulder propped up and burst out, the baby dangled whilst she held the upper-body and gently tugged the baby out of her while she moans softly, the twins we're out and the second born was breathing fine, she shuffled to get something to swaddle the twins in, she cradled both in her arms and cut off both cords as she pulled the placenta out.
There was a bit of soreness but no more pain, she awaited both to perk up and feed onto her breasts as her husband then comes in from his bath as she stares furiously as she calmly & weakly speaks "I *huff* wanna go home." as then they pack up and she's drive home as she rests for now.
The relationship is on thin ice, they had a divorce and she finds a lover more capable and caring than the last, as this time things go smoothly even in their roughest times.

countries and cities i've been to that i think the lost light crew will enjoy (vol. i)
i think ratchet would like switzerland. snowy alps, open green fields where purple and yellow poppies littered across the grass dance with the northern wind. he enjoys the secluded valleys and will spend hours just driving past the topaz lakes. he likes the quiet of it all, the serenity, the closure. he makes drift join him in their holoforms to walk, taking in the traditional log houses and brightly-colored buildings, shops, and restaurants surrounded by lush woodlands, upland meadows, and snow-capped cliffs. grindelwald because drift is fascinated by humans and their winter sports, ascona for when it gets warmer and the boats are out by the docks. in a first contact au, ratchet would most likely end up working in either zurich or geneva, working closely with earth's international bodies like the united nations to facilitate human-cybertronian relations. i can also see the medic crew stationed there as well; running the first cybertronian medical facility on earth.
drift, predictably, would prefer japan more. osaka and tokyo for its entertainment, where he and rodimus would spend hours exploring the nightlife in their disguises. at times, they would even go as their alt-modes. rodimus gets ahead of himself with all the attention he's getting. he'd travel through many prefectures, driving past the borders to clear his head — perks of having a conjunx that works closely with human organizations is that he gets exempted from all the paperwork — but always end up somewhere private, tranquil. the shrines, the forests, the mountains — he would even be bold enough to dream of settling down there. one time ratchet flew in to visit him at a resort by the foot of mount fuji, and his husband was neck-deep inside the natural saunas. content and purring, sinking into recharge against the stones.
i have a feeling brainstorm and skids would stir up trouble somewhere in the netherlands. most likely in the infamous lecture halls of leiden university, where great minds like descartes and rembrandt once walked in. they'd hate the weather, where the sun becomes optional the moment it hits autumn (even before, apparently.) the roads are small, so they'd have difficulty navigating at first, nearly driving into a canal because of how fast people bike. direct, with just the right amount of witty, the pair are glad to enjoy the company of dutchies without having to rely on their (human) food because nothing that they've seen looks appealing or digestible. getaway is also there, most likely in amsterdam, where his holoform is most likely to get cornered in an alley and have his bike stolen.
nautica would love the sea, the vast, great open oceans of southeast asia would be the perfect place for her. ever the adventurer, she would drag riptide and velocity with her to explore the islands of the philippines & indonesia. where she'd learn how to dive and swim with the animals past the coral reefs. sweet girl nearly cried when she saw a group of whale sharks. anode and lug are content sitting by the beach, sipping on their latest invention — coconut-infused energon. bali is where i imagine the girls ( and riptide ) would go for a nice getaway. the people are all smiles, warm and friendly, and passionate about their culture. even if the two are more inclined towards the sciences, the flourishing art and spirituality of the balinese people made them feel at home again. ( if not nostalgic for caminus.)
i know rodimus is living his life in spain. maybe it won't be his designated home on earth. but with the lost light stationed in geneva, where ratchet, minimus, and megatron are with the rest of the united nations council ( because there is no way they can park the ship anywhere in the new york branch ), barcelona was his first solo trip on earth without straying too far from his co-captain's watchful eye. it was the peak of summer and there he was under the sun. the people were only initially surprised, but then again, they'd probably seen weirder things than a sixty-foot-tall robot asking them if he could join their game of volley by the beach. he bumps into krok and his rag-tag team — who's also trying to get away from minimus — so that's how he and misfire end up nearly drowning after a competitive game of water tag.
#i hope these are accurate let me know if i should fix something !#dutchies i'm speaking from the heart when it comes to the food i cannot anymore live off bitterballen & haaring#nee bedankt#transformers#maccadams#drift#misfire#nautica#mtmte#skids#idw mtmte#mtmte x reader#mtmte imagine#lost light#idw transformers#transformers lost light#tf headcanons#tf imagines#tf idw#transformers headcanons#transformers hc#tf hc#lost light x reader#lost light au#getaway#brainstorm#imagine#transformers imagine

What Revelation did each leader get?
Gray Wing coming down from Heaven to bring revelations to the founders
To each founder, xe admonished the flaws that had lead them there on that day. Xe warned that if they did not change their ways, it would be the undoing of themselves as well as their Clan.
To Thunder Storm...
He had never heard the sermons of Gray Wing in life, and yet, he knew xeir teachings better than any of the cats many years his senior. He was already a leader when he should just be leaving his boyhood, and he'd gotten to this position by challenging that which he had been told, and acting in righteous fury when others held their tongues.
So for him, Gray Wing the Wise tells him that he is about to enter a new era. He will not be an underdog, but a powerful warlord, and he must must be weary of the line between justice and revenge.
"The flame that cooks creates, but beware the wildfire that burns away the wood. When you act upon your rage, you must be sure it does not act upon you."
To River's Ripple...
You have only ever acted on pleasure. For passion of your friends, for love of food, desire of things that shine. Like a petal on the river, you have let the flow of life lead you. It lead you into the claws of Clear Sky, your father and his army here to save you, and a dozen cats into their graves tonight.
Though you've tried to avoid it, you must realize now that the lazy river ripples with power in every muscle. Your people will look to you now, just as the water flows through the canal it has carved.
"The peace within you is unique, and meant to be shared with those around you. This is a strength; it is your truancy that is a weakness. Accept the responsibility of being the river that flows, or your own weight shall wash away your kingdom."
To Tall Shadow...
This is where xe began to get angry, but the black-furred leader bowed her head humbly.
Gray Wing laid into how she had used xis name to justify her own ends, putting clan-interest above forest-prosperity, making outsiders out of cats xe had commanded to enfold. She had turned cats into pawns for bargaining, and lost sight of their lives in the process.
"You have failed to break your own legacy, and will watch as someone you love is broken upon it. This is not a threat but a warning; make your heart a refuge for the lost and weary, for you will be judged on how you pick up the pieces."
(TN: "Dark Heart of the Forest comes from a translation quirk here, xey tell her to 'shade her heart' which in Clanmew means to make it a relief from the hot sun.")
To The Wind Runner...
Ambitious, opportunistic, and vindictive. She united many cats who had broken off from the River Kingdom, but only invented a brand new cage for them all. The Wind Runner was out for herself and her own family-- total self-interest.
To her, Gray Wing was furious but simple; "You came for a taste of war and now you choke on it. If you keep treating your cats as tools for power, you will find hounds behind you. It's time for you to serve them instead of having them serve you; let go of grudges, open your mind, grow."
To Clear Sky...
Lulled into a sense of smug security, he had relaxed. After all, at the end of the day... it was all their fault for trying to take what was supposed to belong to him. He was just trying to make sure his cats never go hungry; his littermate would see that.
"LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT"
"This all comes back to you, Clear Sky. You did this."
"What?! They were the ones who--"
"You killed our brother, Jagged Peak! Rejected a sign from your ancestors and twisted my words to suit yourself! Tried to kill your own mate and son!"
"I WAS JUST TRYING TO--"
A final clap of thunder shook the clearing. Perhaps Clear Sky could shout down anyone else who tried to stand up to him in the past; but not the Ancestors. Not at a graveyard of his own making.
"Never before have you truly listened to another person, nor changed your mind once you'd made it up. Do not take our mercy as foolishness, you will decide if my words are warning or prophecy. Your greed will split the sky in two, but the more you grab, the less you will hold. Greed will make all the gifts we will give you rot beneath your own pelt; Unite or Die, Clear Sky."
Before xey finish, they repeat it to all of them. "Unite or die."
After this, they explain that their next task is to properly bury all of the victims of the fight. As reward, each leader will be given nine lives to lead their people, and explore that which was revealed on this night.
Each revelation ties into what the leader will be doing next. Most are prophecies, some are just guidance. Like Gray Wing said; it is up to them if the words are warning or prophecy.

• West Lake Boat Tour: Take a leisurely boat ride to appreciate the lake’s famous sites, like Leifeng Pagoda, which is linked to romantic Chinese legends, and Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, where floating pagodas create a mesmerizing reflection. West Lake is known for its idyllic beauty, with willow-lined shores, lotus ponds, and distant mountains. After a boat ride, enjoy a lakeside meal with Hangzhou specialties like Dongpo pork (a tender, slow-braised pork belly named after poet Su Dongpo) and West Lake Vinegar Fish, a sweet and tangy fish dish often made with carp from the lake.
• Lingyin Temple: This sacred Buddhist site, surrounded by lush forests and rocky outcroppings, is one of the oldest and most significant temples in China. As you explore the temple, admire the intricate Buddhist carvings on Feilai Peak and immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere. Set in lush forested hills, this ancient Buddhist temple is both a place of worship and a scenic retreat. Nearby, sample vegetarian temple dishes such as Buddha’s Delight with tofu and bamboo shoots.
• Longjing Tea Plantation: Visit the tranquil tea fields of Longjing Village, where China’s famed Dragon Well tea is produced. Participate in a tea-picking experience, learn about the tea-making process, and sample the fresh green tea, renowned for its delicate aroma and refreshing taste. Visit Dragon Well’s tea fields to experience tea-picking and sample Longjing shrimp, a light dish flavored with tea leaves, at a local restaurant overlooking the fields.
Day 5-7: Shanghai – Modern Metropolis and Cultural Fusion
• The Bund: Stroll along the Bund’s waterfront for views of Shanghai’s historic colonial buildings and modern skyline. Dine at a nearby restaurant and try Shanghai-style braised pork (hong shao rou), paired with steamed buns.
• Yu Garden: This Ming Dynasty garden is an oasis in the city with intricate rock formations and koi ponds. At the adjacent Yuyuan Bazaar, enjoy soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and lotus root in osmanthus syrup.
• Lujiazui Financial District: Shanghai’s financial hub, home to towering skyscrapers like Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl. Take in the skyline views and try hairy crab (in season) at a high-rise restaurant.
Travel Tips
1. Transportation: Travel between cities by high-speed train. It takes about 2 hours from Suzhou to Hangzhou and 1 hour from Hangzhou to Shanghai.
2. Accommodation: In Suzhou and Hangzhou, stay in traditional guesthouses for an authentic Jiangnan experience, and in Shanghai, opt for a hotel in the city center.
3. Food: Try local specialties like Suzhou’s Squirrel Fish, Hangzhou’s West Lake Vinegar Fish, and Shanghai’s Xiao Long Bao dumplings.

Between Refuge and Risk: The Avalanche Paradox for Mountain Ungulates
ESP version ITA version In the changing context of mountain environments, climate change manifests with rapid and significant transformations, profoundly influencing sensitive communities and ecological processes. A crucial element in this landscape is represented by the seasonal conditions of snow, which prove to be determinants for the dynamics of mountain ungulate populations. These variations directly affect vital ecological and physiological aspects, such as the energy costs of locomotion, vulnerability to predation, and the availability and quality of forage, both in summer and winter.
A recent study published in Nature explored how mountain goats, adapted to steep terrains to evade predators, paradoxically find themselves at risk due to the frequent instability of these slopes, which can generate avalanches. The research, conducted in southeastern Alaska on 421 goats monitored for 17 years, highlights that avalanches cause between 23% to 65% of annual deaths, primarily affecting the young and small. These steep areas, chosen to mitigate the risk of predation, turn out to be ecological traps due to their high risk of avalanches. This risk is variable, with peaks during the most unstable months for snow, especially at the beginning of winter and during the spring thaw.
The migratory and wintering strategies of ungulates further influence their exposure to the risk of avalanches. For example, mountain goats in Lynn Canal are extremely migratory, moving to low-altitude forested habitats during the winter, while other populations remain at higher altitudes, exposing themselves more to danger.
Climate change exacerbates this dynamic, modifying the frequency and intensity of avalanches, and consequently, the spatial and temporal distribution of these lethal events. Forecasts indicate an increase in wet avalanches compared to those of dry snow, with a potential increase in avalanche mortality rates.
The persistence of this risk in mountain systems, combined with the anticipated rise in the snowline elevation, may reduce the avalanche danger at lower altitudes, but the risk will continue to be a significant component in the ecology of mountain ungulates. However, the demographic influence of avalanches on ungulate populations is likely to persist in the future because both the avalanche danger and the ranges of mountain ungulates are expected to shift upward as the climate warms.
It is essential to emphasize that the growth rates of mountain goat populations are particularly low and can only sustain limited annual removals. Therefore, avalanche mortality, especially among young individuals, can have severe demographic impacts, leading to population decline. These data highlight the need to reconsider conservation and management strategies for these vulnerable populations.
The intensification of climate change and its extreme manifestations, such as avalanches, necessitates a rethinking of conservation policies to protect not only mountain ungulates but also the ecological integrity of mountain environments, which are crucial for global biodiversity.

The Man Who Died Searching For The Lost City of Z
In 1925, Explorer and Surveyor Percy Fawcett Disappeared In The Amazon Basin Looking For An Ancient Civilization. Although He Was Inspired By Questionable Sources, We Now Know If His Search was in Vain.
— By Jordi Canal-Soler | June 13, 2024
When the Spanish first ventured into the Amazon Basin in the 1540s, they recorded Indigenous accounts of a lost city of fantastic wealth that they called El Dorado (“the golden”). Over the centuries, many vain attempts were made to locate a lost civilization in the Amazon rainforest.
The last significant attempt to find such a culture was undertaken by British explorer Percy Fawcett. Between 1906 and 1924, Fawcett made seven expeditions across the Amazon Basin, concluding with his doomed quest to find the city he called Z. Fawcett was inspired by his extensive reading of historical sources, including a mysterious document known as Manuscript 512.
A man of extraordinary mental and physical stamina, Fawcett was working at a time when the Amazon region was still largely undocumented by Europeans who sought to explore its jungles and waterways, seeking ancient cities and riches. His disappearance during his search for Z in 1925, in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil, continues to intrigue writers and filmmakers.
Yearning To Explore
Percy Harrison Fawcett was born in 1867 in Torquay, Devon, the English county that had produced many famous explorers and mariners, including Francis Drake and Walter Raleigh.
The son of an aristocrat who had lost his fortune, Fawcett described his childhood as lacking in affection. At age 19, he was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery and sent to outposts of the British Empire.

In 1901, Fawcett joined the Royal Geographical Society of London and traveled to Africa as a surveyor in the service of the British state, tasked with gathering military intelligence. In 1906, he was commissioned by the society to lead an expedition to the Amazon.
Arriving in South America was the moment his whole life changed. Setting out from La Paz to map the vast territory on the borderlands of Bolivia and Brazil, Fawcett often faced hostility from Indigenous peoples angered by rubber barons, who had invaded their lands to extract rubber for use in car and train manufacturing.
For nearly a decade he roamed the Amazon Basin, often the first European to record geographical features such as waterfalls. His writing gives a sense of the awe he experienced:

Above us rose the Ricardo Franco hills, flat topped and mysterious, their flanks scarred by deep quebradas [ravines]. They stood like a lost world, forested to their tops, and the imagination could picture the last vestiges of an age long vanished.
The outbreak of World War I interrupted this rich period of exploration, forcing him to return to Europe. Although in his 50s, Fawcett was in peak physical condition, and he proved to be an outstanding soldier.
A Mysterious Manuscript
Fawcett could not shake off the allure of South America, however. So, when the war ended, he returned to Brazil, where he would pursue an idea that led him to his last great adventures and, ultimately, his mysterious death.
Although Fawcett often relied on racist tropes and ideas when he wrote of Brazil’s Indigenous peoples, he also made great efforts to understand their customs and languages.
He lamented the effects of colonialist greed on these societies and became convinced that Spanish and Portuguese accounts from the 16th and 17th centuries of complex civilizations in the rainforest may have had merit. Such accounts mention “very large settlements” as well as “fine roadways in the interior.”
One document in particular fascinated Fawcett. Known as Manuscript 512 and written in Portuguese, it is purportedly an account by adventurers and fortune hunters. In 1753, in search of precious metals, the adventurers found a ruined city boasting monumental buildings, roads, and a plaza, in “each corner of which is a spire, in the style of the Romans.”
Mystery Manuscript! The document that partly inspired Fawcett’s search for Z is kept in Brazil’s National Library. Manuscript 512 is considered a forgery by some scholars, although Fawcett was not the only one who believed it was authentic. Explorer Richard Burton was intrigued by it during his travels in Brazil in the 1860s. National Library, Brazil
Scholars are divided about the manuscript’s authenticity. Skeptics consider it a forgery. Brazil achieved independence from Portugal in 1825. It would have been useful for a new, insecure republic to “discover” a document that described ancient civilizations in its territory—akin to the great Maya sites in Central America. Many at the time, however, accepted the manuscript’s authenticity, including Fawcett, already convinced that early accounts of complex civilizations in the rainforest were accurate. He became obsessed with finding such a place.
In Search of Z
Although Fawcett was inspired by Manuscript 512’s claims, he never intended to find the city it described. The settlement in that document lies, supposedly, in Brazil’s northeast. Citing other sources (which he did not name), Fawcett became convinced that a lost civilization existed in the wild, central-western region of Mato Grosso. He named the city Z.
In April 1925, Fawcett set out from Cuiabá to find it, accompanied by his eldest son, Jack, and his son’s best friend, Raleigh Rimell. The last news from them was in a letter Fawcett sent to his wife: “We shall disappear from civilization until next year. Imagine us ... in forests so far untrodden by civilised man.”
And then they really did disappear. Were they killed by animals or people? Several expeditions were launched in an attempt to clarify what happened, including one headed by Peter Fleming, brother of the James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Many of these ventures also ended in tragedy. And none shed any light on what happened to Fawcett.
In 1952, anthropologist Orlando Villas-Bôas announced he had found the bones of the explorer and that Kalapalo Indians had confessed to killing him. Later forensic analysis showed the remains did not belong to Fawcett.
For a decade, Fawcett roamed the Amazon Basin. His writings, which his son compiled in this posthumous 1953 book, give a sense of the awe he experienced.
Fawcett’s story has had an enduring cultural impact. He is one of the inspirations for the character Indiana Jones. (The Walt Disney Company is a majority owner of National Geographic Media.) The English explorer was also the subject of David Grann’s The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon, the basis for a 2016 feature film. In his book, Grann quotes Kalapalo Indians, who insist they had not killed Fawcett. They had seen the smoke from Fawcett’s camp for a few days until it stopped. They say he likely died at the hands of “hostile” people in territory to the east.
Although the mystery of his last days may never be fully resolved, Fawcett’s quest for a lost city may be at an end. In the decades since his disappearance, exploration of northeastern Mato Grosso has uncovered the remains of large urban settlements, now located in Xingu Indigenous Park. Named Kuhikugu, the complex includes remnants of streets, bridges, and large squares. Modern lidar scans further suggest that between 1,500 and 400 years ago, this part of the Amazon was indeed the site of a large settlement. While Z’s exact identity and location are still a mystery, Fawcett’s hunch about a hidden ancient city in the region seems to have been correct.

Good afternoon TUMBLR - June 4th - 2024
“Mr. Plant has owed me a shoe since July 5, 1971.”
IRAQ – RUMAILAH - Sept 2014 – Mar 2016.
Part 1
It's summer 2014, and after 3 years of the Rub el Khali desert (''the Empty Quarter'') I treat myself to a holiday in Val Gardena. Splendid places, the Dolomites – when I look at them I always ask myself the same question: is all this beauty really just the work of Nature? Or over the centuries nameless artists have been able to paint and create this spectacle for the eyes and the heart. Here the slopes are different, almost ''friends'' - different from all the slopes of all the other mountains in the world - in Valle d'Aosta, for example, the mountains are imposing and distant - they impose awe, almost fear, on times. In the Dolomites, in summer as in winter (but especially in summer) you never experience this detachment that the nature of the mountains always imposes on us. Everything, the peaks, the slopes, the fir and larch forests, seems so ''within reach'' (even if obviously this is not the case). The tops and sides of the peaks, so bizarrely shaped, seem to play with the gaze. In general, the woods end almost at the start of the rocks, or they leave the task of carrying us beneath them to the meadows and scree, those immense walls climbed by fearless climbers.
I was immersed in this beauty, walking in the center of Ortisei looking at the Sasslong from time to time, when I received a call from the SAIPEM personnel office: Mrs. Quattrone: We would like to know if you are available to go to Iraq? Is there an alternative? Yes, it's called Nigeria When should I leaving for Iraq?
So it was that I accepted the role of Project Manager of a pipeline project already underway, whose manager, for reasons I later discovered, had to be replaced. I left in September, and after a 10-day stop in Dubai, necessary for medical examinations and blood tests in order to obtain a VISA for Iraq, I boarded the flight to Basra.
From Dubai to Basra From Dubai to Basra the flight duration is approximately 2 hours. The two great rivers of Mesopotamia, the cradle of Civilization, join before Basra, and the slow descent of the plane towards Basra gives the opportunity to appreciate the complexity of the mouth of the two rivers. The Faw peninsula is a tangle of canals, some dredged by man to allow the approach of supertankers loading Iraqi oil arriving at the terminals from the nearby oil fields. Ships that would otherwise run aground on the sandy and shifting seabed before reaching the open sea. The Persian Gulf (or Arabian Sea) is a sea with very shallow waters, and therefore difficult to navigate. The coasts are littered with shipwrecks stranded in the sand, and then left to rust under the merciless sun that glares for more than 300 days a year in the ever-fading sky above the Arabian Peninsula. I arrive at Basra airport, and I immediately realize that it is not an airport like all the others. It is in a perpetual state of siege, defended by anti-aircraft fire, and inside - apart from the airport staff - there are only departing or arriving passengers. No relatives or friends to wait or greet travelers. The luggage undergoes a double inspection, after which we are driven outside towards old American Suburbans: they carry 8 passengers plus the local driver. Which, after leaving the car park, launches at 180 km per hour towards the airport's outer checkpoint, about 8 km away. It was explained to me that these few kilometers are the most dangerous, because they are subject to sporadic guerrilla attacks, almost always with mortars. Once we arrive at the external fence of the airport, there is a new manual baggage check, then we are finally outside, and immediately taken over by the military patrol who will accompany us to the Saipem compound in Rumailah, about 50 kilometers away from the airport.
Basra airport – Rumailah SAIPEM Base The patrol leader gives us a short briefing, we put on the bulletproof vest, which is mandatory every time we leave the compound. It weighs about 10kg, and it's hard to bear, but the thought that it can save your life makes it weigh less. The helmet is available, but it is not mandatory to wear it when we are inside the armored car. These are all Toyota Land Cruisers, with doors so heavy you have to push with two hands to close them. The convoy is made up of 3 Land Cruisers, we ''civilians'' are in the car in the middle with a military doctor who sits in front, next to the driver (usually a former Iraqi soldier). In front of the car with the escort chief and 3 soldiers, behind us the same: a car with 3 soldiers and a driver.
We are on the coastant connection via radio and GPS between us and the security room located inside the Saipem compound, where they always know exactly where we are. Everything went well, we arrived without problems at the SAIPEM base, a sort of ''armored citadel'', surrounded by 3 high reinforced concrete fences, barbed wire, turrets with armed guards 24/7. The path to enter the base is made up of zigzag Jersey barriers to prevent a car bomb from possibly launching itself against the checkpoint house at the entrance. Before entering the base, all vehicles are subjected to inspection, with dogs trained in anti-terrorism, to prevent dangerous vehicles from entering the compound. Between the first and second fence, all the patrol soldiers unload their weapons in a special enclosure. All active measures to prevent rebels and terrorists from attempting to attack the compound, where around a hundred expatriates of all origins live: Europeans, Asians, Africans. The compound is equipped with containers with single and double rooms, with bathrooms - canteen with Italian chef - office block - infirmary with 2 doctors - gym, sauna, and indoor swimming pool - workshop and equipment workshop. It is the first time that SAIPEM allows employees to have a swimming pool in one of their compound, as the swimming pool has always been considered ''a luxury item''.
Iraq in 2016 Several projects were underway with the participation of SAIPEM, with clients such as EXXON, SHELL, and the SOC - South Oil Company - Iraqi oil company. I would like to say straight away that the Iraq experience was my happiest experience from a human point of view. All the participants in the various projects, from Top Management right down to the Security staff, everyone showed an exceptional spirit of collaboration - never found in any of my long years abroad in the various countries where I found myself operating. And this meant that, despite a thousand difficulties, the projects were completed, although sometimes with understandable delays. I can't imagine if this hadn't been the case, in an objectively difficult situation like that of Iraq. Outside the base, further North in the country, the Islamic State was raging, making its presence felt even among the workers of our Sub-Contractors. Sometimes members of their staff did not return after being on holiday in their hometowns in the North. Most of the time they received threats of kidnapping ''because we know that you collaborate with the Westerners''. Other times they were forcibly enrolled in the various militias, and then nothing more was known about them. The local Sub-Contractors, even more than usual, had terrible performances, partly due to the actual difficulties in finding equipment and specialized labor, and adequate materials. Another important obstacle to the normal progress of the work was represented by the VISA problem: it was very difficult to obtain work visas for Iraq. And once obtained they had a short expiry date, so one was forced to continually renew them. The project I was working on, an oil pipeline, ran inside an oil field that had been the scene of furious fighting during the second Gulf War, between the Anglo-Americans and Iraqis. Before proceeding with the excavations, a thorough demining campaign was carried out, given the enormous quantity of unexploded ordnance left by both sides on the ground.
Along the 40 km that separated the Saipem Base from the oil field there were 4 military check points. These were the most dangerous points of the route: the gathering of vehicles caused by the controls potentially created areas favorable to possible attacks by ISIS terrorists. In the endless minutes stopped in the column, our Guardian Angels were particularly alert, to determine potential dangerous situations. Numerous problems were created by the Iraqi soldiers in charge of the controls: we passengers had been instructed to remain seated, our hands visible, our legs uncrossed, and the use of cell phones was prohibited. Obviously taking photographs was prohibited – and if we arrived at a checkpoint when the soldiers were at prayer or during their lunch, we had to wait for these activities to end, without showing any sign of impatience. Another element that caused delays in the project was the torrential rains that fell on Iraq in 2015-2016: the most intense rainfall in living memory on the Middle Eastern country. The pipeline route and its surroundings often turned into impassable swamps, causing considerable damage.

Tumeric Trailhead
MP100 Fanfiction, Gen, Serizawa Katsuya, ~700 words
Part of WawaWeek Day 1: Observation/New
Serizawa has the day off and goes on a nature hike.
...
Monday. The S&S office was closed as Reigen-san's landlord fumigated the building. Katsuya, of course, offered to help, but Reigen-san forbade it. Apparently, this was just one of those things that landlords were supposed to take care of. That, and Reigen-san always got something of a wild look in his eyes whenever they talked about bugs. If Katsuya didn't know any better, he'd think that his boss had a phobia.
Either way, he didn't have anything to do until this evening, so he found himself walking around the border of town. The sensation of flying solo was still very new, and he didn't trust himself enough to go traipsing around downtown.
He stepped up to the beginning Tumeric Trailhead and followed its unkept gravelly path. The trail twisted and turned as he climbed up the hill. It traced along the ridge, the trees falling away on the occasion to allow Katsuya to see the Seasoning City's skyline.
Even in the harsh midday sun, the city was beautiful. He never properly appreciated it during his brief stay in the Culture Tower. But now? Something about this being his home made him extra attentive.
He could see the big bridge over the canal. The void where broccoli used to be. And the spots of greenery dotting the concrete cityscape.
Katusya breathed in and appreciated the sense of belonging. His friends all lived there. He worked there. He learned there. Even as foreign as this experience was to him, he knew enough to savor it. Things don't always last forever. Reigen-san had said that. It was best to enjoy things in the present.
Tearing his gaze away, Katsuya followed the trail as it descended back into the thick of the forest. Though he was alone, his footsteps were far from the only sounds that accompanied him. Leaves and sticks rustled as creatures fluttered and scampered about.
At a clearing, he spotted a collection of small prints in the soft dirt. A creek bubbled in the distance. It couldn't hurt, he figured, to follow them.
Stepping along the side the tracks, Katsuya was careful to not destroy the fragile imprints. He had no idea what kind of creature made prints like these, but he hoped he'd soon find out.
After a few minutes of following the wild trail, he did in fact find himself on the edge of a silty creek bed. The water level was low, streaming though narrow ruts in the mud. Several more animal prints crowded around the water source. Many, Katsuya proudly recognized, were birds. Some others might be deer or maybe pigs. Something with hooves, at least.
Plopping himself down on a boulder, Katsuya stripped off his shoes and dipped his feet in the water. It was shockingly cold, and the mud was soft and pleasant to dig through. He sighed happily, content in his little oasis.
Then, he spotted something odd peaking out from under a leaf.
Curious, but not willing to give up his seat, Katsuya used his telekinesis to drag it closer. Strange, gelatinous orbs were glued to the leaf in a tight cluster.
Dropping the leaf in his hands, he brought the curiosity closer to his face.
Each orb appeared to house a tiny dark squiggle. They pulsed and moved in a hypnotic jerky display.
Reaching for his phone, Katsuya let the leaf bob around in the air. After snapping a quick picture, he sent it to the S&S groupchat, and promptly returned the leaf. Tome would probably love seeing something like this, he mused.
On the way back to town, Katsuya's phone chimed.
Tome👽: Gross! Tome👽: Bring that to the office tomorrow. I want to see it. Reigen: 👏👏 Absolutely not. 👎 Shigeo: Those are tree frog eggs. Tome👽: Lame. Shigeo: They look close to hatching.
Katsuya smiled as he read through the messages. If he wanted to see tadpoles, he'd have to make this trip a few more times. He'd never seen baby frogs before, and he wondered if Shigeo would like to come with.
*** Bonus ***
Tome👽: Change of plans. My friend says she wants to eat it. Tome👽: On a scale of 1 to 10. Tome👽: How edible do you think they are? Reigen: ZERO Reigen: Don't you have school? Tome👽: It's called playing hooky old man Tome👽: You wouldn't know cause you're not cool enough

Day Seventy
I realised I'd accidentally missed a count whilst dealing with the injury, which means today is in fact the ten week mark!
Up early from the woods by Silverdale, the sun is shining and the wind is low, should be a good day for the mileage!
Today's ride starts out with a nice glide downhill from Arnside & Silverdale AONB and across the wetlands of RSPB Leighton Moss, before rolling into Carnforth for a quick stop for supplies.
From here, it's time to jump on to the canal towpath heading alongside the A6 for some nice level riding. The towpath surface isn't great, alternating between stoney gravel or pockmarked with holes, but it's still enjoyable going through the tunnels of trees along the canalside.
The canal is followed down to Hest Bank, where I swing west to jump onto the coastline for a lovely ride along the seaside across to Morecambe.
The tide is out, and a ceiling of cloud has appeared, but it's high up and still a warm day, with the air clear enough to gaze right across the bay to see Helvellyn and its surrounding peaks in the Lake District standing proudly on the horizon.
After taking in the views awhile, it's time to head back inland along The Greenway cycle path, a great long stretch of smooth paving through some lovely forested sections down to the River Lune and historic Lancaster.
Crossing ove the river via the Millennium Bridge, the cycle route turns and tracks along the River Lune for another few miles all the way down to Condor Green. The path turns to a rocky bridleway halfway along which does slow progress and requires a deal of concentration to find viable routes to prevent the bike shaking me to bits, but what scenery I'm able to take in is still enjoyable.
I opt to take the bike route inland to cut out a section of A road, which ends up leading me into a few stiff climbs as it loops out and back again around the M6, before heading back out westward through Cockerham.
The route here is branded as the "Lancaster Cycleway", but in reality there is no provision whatsoever for cycling infrastructure, and it's a long slog along some busy roads with the wind starting to come in from the west, making for a bit of a tough section across the flats.
With there being no route across the River Wyre along the coast, the route swings south across the fields to reach the toll bridge at Great Ecclestone. Heading a little further south through Elswick, it's a further jaunt through windy country lanes westward along the B5269 as the hills begin to roll in a little.
The day is brightening though, and before long tue busy lanes turn into bugger, busier roads as we ride into the outskirts of Blackpool.
Doing what I can to avoid the seriously heavy traffic through much of town, I carry on westward a little further and hit the seaside again, with a nice sight if the famous Blackpool Tower.
The air is clear enough still to even catch a glimpse of the beautiful peaks of Snowdonia far across the water.
From the pleasure beach, it's time for a jaunt along the promenade. I've really enjoyed riding along a good few seaside promenades through this journey, and the stretch along from Blackpool is some of the best yet.
Some great smooth level riding right along the waterside, with a short jump onto the road before continuing again around the sandy expanses of St Anne's and the nature reserves by Lytham.
The view across the Ribble Estuary is gorgeous, with so much of the upcoming coast on display.
With some big urban stretches ahead, I don't want to progress too much further today and get caught up in them when trying to find a place to sleep, so I resolve to find a spot prior to Preston. But the legs are still feeling energetic currently, so I push on from Lytham and into rish hour.
The traffic on the road by Saltcotes is as heavy as it gets, but with an adjacent cycle path I have a good deal of pleasure pushing on and zooming past the queueing cars as the sun shines out once more, and carey on past Freckleton.
It's a stretch if dual carriageway here, but I'm feeling bullish and start charging down it. I realise I may have miscalculated as the miles grind down as before I know it I'm hitting the outskirts of Preston.
There are aome good cycle paths around here though, and I start following the Guild Wheel route along Savick Brook to scout out some possible stopping points to setup in.
Then I receive a lovely and unexpected present from the wonderful Ellie! Given that my back is still playing up somewhat after my fall, I decide to use it to book into a nice cheap B&B just a little further down the road to give me a nice soft bed to help aid the recovery a little more.
That's been a decent day's progress! Honestly wasn't expecting to get this far on today, but starting out tomorrow this deep into Preston puts me in a great position to get through the main urban challenges tomorrow, and possibly get over the border to Wales. We shall see what the morning holds.
TTFN!

Research: Wetlands and the Bellanwila Attidiya Bird Sanctuary
Research the bird sanctuary because it is heavily featured in the piece. What does the sanctuary look and sound like? What do wetlands generally look like? I can use this to design my own wetlands for my animation. Furthermore, through researching the different birds found at the sanctuary, I can finally decide on what the bird for my final piece will be.
Initially I was leaning more towards the bird being a heron, but I'm worried this might be too similar to The Boy and the Heron which deals with the same themes.
Wetlands
Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil, or is present either at or near the surface of the soil all year or for varying periods of time during the year, including during the growing season. Water saturation (hydrology) largely determines how the soil develops and the types of plant and animal communities living in and on the soil. Wetlands may support both aquatic and terrestrial species. The prolonged presence of water creates conditions that favor the growth of specially adapted plants (hydrophytes) and promote the development of characteristic wetland (hydric) soils.
Types of Wetlands
Wetlands vary widely because of regional and local differences in soils, topography, climate, hydrology, water chemistry, vegetation and other factors, including human disturbance. Two general categories of wetlands are recognized: coastal or tidal wetlands and inland or non-tidal wetlands.
Mangroves and Mangrove Forests
A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows mainly in coastal saline or brackish water. Mangroves grow in an equatorial climate, typically along coastlines and tidal rivers. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves are taxonomically diverse due to convergent evolution in several plant families.
There are about 80 different species of mangrove trees. All of these trees grow in areas with low-oxygen soil, where slow-moving waters allow fine sediments to accumulate. Mangrove forests only grow at tropical and subtropical latitudes near the equator because they cannot withstand freezing temperatures.
Many mangrove forests can be recognized by their dense tangle of prop roots that make the trees appear to be standing on stilts above the water. This tangle of roots allows the trees to handle the daily rise and fall of tides, which means that most mangroves get flooded at least twice per day. The roots also slow the movement of tidal waters, causing sediments to settle out of the water and build up the muddy bottom.
The Bellanwila Attidiya Bird Sanctuary
Spanning 372 hectares, the Bellanwila Attidiya Bird sanctuary is a protected forested wetland under the Department of Wildlife Conservation. It includes mangrove and freshwater marshes.
According to a study done by the Society for Environmental Education, there are some 166 species of birds sighted in the area of which most are residential and around 40 migratory. The area also has a recorded 71 species of butterflies and 44 species of fish.
There have been reports of crocodiles inhabiting the canals now and then. There are also small mammals like the fishing cat here. Some have recorded sighting jackals too.
The place also has a good view of Siripada - also known as Adam’s Peak - in the distance.
Although the sanctuary is a natural water retention area, it has now failed to absorb the excess water and control floods due to illegal land filling and encroachments.
Bellanwila-Attidiya's marshy lands was declared as a sanctuary on July 25, 1990 but the Department of Wildlife Conservation's failure to protect it over the years has reduced the number of migrant and endemic birds.
