It is so hard to believe in peace when in the first place, we don’t have it. Peace is a very relative word because sometimes peace can mean an absence of war. Sometimes, we get to thinking, if our mind is so clouded and disoriented, does that mean we don’t have peace? If peace means an absence of war, then it just means that mental peace or inner peace means an absence of insecurities, depression, anxieties, etc.? Then, we are understanding it in the wrong way. 

Worldly peace may mean an absence of war, but peace in God means having peace amidst war and chaos. Now, it is indeed very hard to understand, but we must put into consideration that our God is powerful and that even if there is chaos and war, He can give us peace if we put our trust in Him. So, our verse today talks about how Paul urges us to let the peace of Christ rule over our hearts as part of the members of one body. We are called to peace because Christ did not just grant us salvation, but also the peace that surpasses all understanding. 

The reason why it is called that the peace of Christ can surpass all understanding is that it is indeed beyond our understanding of how this peace works. It is very hard to understand that we will have peace even if our minds are so messy, it is so hard to believe that we will have peace even if our feelings are rushed and we are so down because of anxieties and pain. However, let us hold on to the promise of God and be thankful that He can give us peace. 

Therefore, this is why Paul encourages us to let the peace of Christ rule in us so that whatever tide we face, no matter how messy our minds, and no matter how in pain we are, we are capable of receiving peace. Why? Because Christ has taken it all and He has already overcome the world. He can give us peace because He will take all our pain away and give us an assured mind and heart that everything will be alright as long as we are in Him. Thus, we must indeed always remember to let the peace of Christ rule in us and let Him take all our burdens away.

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." - (Colossians 3:15 NIV) Both simple and complex, at the same time... but why? Lots of things rule in our hearts. Some good, some bad, some indifferent. But certain things simply should not, and if we carried Christ's peace around with us as often as we know we should, most of the other stuff would just fall out on its own (less space). Definitely not an easy thing to do, as the heart is the center of conflict. Here is where our feelings and desires clash but we as believers need to cling to the peace that we are called to carry, as one body, and encourage one another. Be thankful. Even in the midst of the uncertainty, and everything that is unknown happening all around us. We have so much to be thankful for and I'm reminded of that this week.
