“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." - Matthew 11:28‭-‬29 (NIV) These words from Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew are always so comforting..... In the literal sense of the word, a yoke is a heavy wooden harness that fits over the shoulders of an ox or oxen. It is attached to a piece of equipment the oxen are to pull. Obviously these were used way back then but we as people, carry our own additional weight in the form of "burdens." Things like sin, or the excessive demands of religious leaders (later in Matthew 23:4, or in Acts 15:10 you can see these references) or oppression, persecution, even weariness in the search of God. Jesus frees us from all these burdens; these are all the things (and the list goes on) that He carried and were nailed to the cross. The rest that He promises is love, healing, and peace with God, not the end of all physical labor. However, having a relationship with God changes meaningless, wearisome work into spiritual productivity and purpose. So he gives us "rest" in the sense that we don't worry about wasting time in our lives doing things that aren't fulfilling or fruitful but instead through Christ we have purpose and plenty of things to do that ultimately bring Glory to His name! In turn giving "rest" to our souls because we know who He is and what He has done to save us and give us this purpose. Peace in knowing the work we do for the kingdom matters so much more than anything else gives our soul rest as well. Thankful for His mercy, grace, and sacrifice especially in this reminder today. Even though the night is over (8/17) --- Happy 6 MONTHS to our precious baby girl, Lisa Jade (LJ) 💗 She is such a little firecracker already, but her smile will literally melt your heart! She likes to talk (yell) & roll over, and reach for everything! Bicycle kicks are her new favorite thing, especially when she's excited 😊 She also loves watching shows with her big brother, sometimes they fall asleep in the car together holding hands (it's the cutest thing) and gosh, we are just so BLESSED! Today, this little guy turned TWO years old!! 🥺 Is that right?! It's been 24 months since the day he was BORN 😭😭😭 It's so bittersweet, being a parent, watching him grow, seeing his own little personality develop, and teaching himself so many things... he learns something new everyday and is always so excited about it! "The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace." - Romans 8:6 (NIV) This particular chapter refers to life through the Spirit, as per the Apostle Paul, and stresses the importance of living in such a way. He basically divides everyone into 2 categories — those who are dominated by their sinful nature, and those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit. Who we choose to allow control is ultimately up to us: who we are influenced by, what we put in our ears (listen to) and even the places we find ourselves in play a huge part in that. All of us would be in that first category if Jesus hadn't offered us a way out. Once we have said yes to Jesus we will want to continue following Him because His way brings life and peace. So we must consciously choose to allow the Spirit to move within us, leading our thoughts and actions. This brings glory to God but also, peace to our souls. He never said this life would be easy, as we know the path is narrow (seemingly getting smaller in today's society) but that overwhelming sense of peace in all things is so worth it, not to mention Paradise. His Word is a great way to discover the guidelines He's set aside for us, and then it becomes our responsibility to follow them. To the Mother of my CHILDREN (still in awe that we have more than one now)..... words can't begin to describe how much you mean to US and how tremendously BLESSED we are to have YOU! "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8 (NIV) There is so much to reflect on during the Easter season; so much happened in such a short time that literally changed the course of history... which was all part of God's master plan (His-story) for humanity. And as we reflect on all this we realize how much God truly loves US..... "While we were still sinners"---these are powerful and amazing words, yet convicting and heartbreaking at the same time. God sent Jesus Christ to die for us, not because we were good enough, but because we were never good enough and He loved us that much! Wait, how much do we mean to God? We literally mean Jespus Christ to God, and so He chose to sacrifice His only son who would take our place, face and endure the cross, so that we could be in relationship with God the Father. I know, it doesn't make sense but this is God's love and it is unconditionally and freely given to us. Whenever you feel uncertain about God's love for you, remember that He loved you even before you turned to Him. "While we were still sinners" separated from God, maybe not even aware, or maybe we were and chose to follow the wrong path anyway... Christ still chose to die for us! If God loved you then, in your darkest of times, imagine how much brighter the days ahead can be if you choose to rely on His strength and love Him more and more everyday. There is nothing you can't overcome, nothing can stand in your way. Seek His presence in your life, if you haven't already, and watch things change in ways you never thought possible. God loves you, so much more than you'll ever fully know. Jesus paid it all. World..... we would like to introduce you to the newest member of the Amey family, Ms. Lisa Jade. 💜 She was named after her Grandma Lisa, who is in heaven, and she was born on Thurs. Feb. 17th @ 8:11am. She was 9lbs, 13oz and 21.5" long, almost as big as her big brother! We are so blessed and excited to be a family of FOUR and thank God that everything went so smoothly bringing this baby into the world. Elisa did great and has been recovering/healing so well! Thank you to all our family & friends for your prayers, calls, texts and support!
