This past Thursday at the Aloha Community Famer’s Market was GREAT!  We had TONS of kids and families (even some four-leggers) come visit us, as well as my mersister Ashera’s sweet merling & pirate daughters, plus our friend mermaid Elliana there to help us make ‘Oomans smile!  It was a BEAUTIFUL day, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather!  HUGE thanks to my mersister Asherah for having me out there, to Ellianna, Nixie and Kitty for joining us, to the Heavens for making that lovely day sparkle in ALL the best ways, and to everyone who came out to visit us Thursday!  We hope to see even MOAR of you in a few weeks, when we return to the Farmer’s Market on the 27th of July! How to be sustainable in a pandemic
What does low impact eating look like in a pandemic? So many of our systems have turned upside down–it can feel like the plant-based, low waste habits we’ve worked so hard to cultivate are disappearing. I hear ya. It’s something I’ve been struggling with, especially running CLC, I feel this added pressure to make sure my habits are in alignment. But the reality of it, we can only do the best we can in the moment. Yes, some packaged foods are going to make their way into our pantries, that’s a reality.
But in so many other ways, we’ve become scrappier with our resources, we’ve learned to how to source more produce locally, and we’ve been checking in with our neighbors. There is a massive habit shift happening right now and that’s pretty incredible.
So what are some manageable habits for a sustainable kitchen we can still work towards? * Ask for no silverware or napkins in your take away, use what you have at home * Aim to reduce paper towel consumption by cleaning with dish towels / rags first * Find your closest farmer’s market, mask up, and try to buy local produce before hitting the grocery store * Look for mission driven food delivery options like Imperfect Foods or MilkRun that support food waste reduction and local suppliers * Shop in bulk when possible, this reduces overall packaging waste in the long run * Try ordering in bulk from local restaurant suppliers (like Rinella produce in PDX), many are offering consumer purchasing now * Cultivate community with a bread or baked good swap, your friends will thank you for changing things up * Try out more improvisational cooking techniques! Now’s the time to practice * Be kind to yourself, try out one new habit until you’ve got it down
As things are in flux, small shifts add up. You can still be sustainable and practice slow living in a mask y’all <3
What other low waste habits are you practicing right now?? #closedloopcooking

Lefty has asked that we leave a tiny reminder that the herd is well fed and to please not feed them through the fence! We got notice from a neighbor that there were some visitors during off-hours feeding the goats crackers. We appreciate how fun it can be to get the goats attention with food, but in the interest of their health, we need to ask that visitors (at any time if day) please refrain from feeding the goats (or Juniper) - especially grain-based products. We ask that no food be given at all because of one goat gets sick, we need to know what they have been eating, and if we can't verify, they may not get adequate care. Grain is especially dangerous to our male goats, both in the case of it being a leading cause of bloat and because in wethered goats, it can cause urinary stones like Cooper had, and Dusty before him. Because we can't really verify where something came from, we can't even accept donations of fruits or vegetables. (Yes, that does include home grown or Farmers market organic produce, unfortunately). The goats also never get them, so when they have them fed through the fence (in any quantity), it can give them upset stomachs and runny poo. Nobody wants that. Especially not Lefty. We appreciate our visitors understanding our rationale behind this rule. We get asked pretty regularly if "goats will eat anything"... The answer is a little yes, a little no. But mainly, they will still eat things that could make them sick and that is the biggest reason we avoid it. We want the herd to be well and open to the public as long as possible, and by keeping them in a strict diet, and limiting their outside intake, we hope to do our best! Thank you! - Belmont Goats Staff ( & Lefty!) #belmontgoats #tbglefty #universitypark #pdx https://www.instagram.com/p/B1Nj_-Hhijv/?igshid=1o365xqhk4uul

When the hemp plant is aged, it produces the CBN acid, CBNA (cannabigerolic acid).
