she holds up a plateful of chocolate chip cupcakes, freshly baked && decorated to say ‘ happy birthday! ‘ with a cupcake in the center having a candle in it. ‘ happy birthday, akechi - kun! i hope you like them! ‘

                    almost dropping his briefcase in surprise at the greeting from the cheerful girl, akechi took an instinctive step back, fingers tightening around the handle of his briefcase with a barely audible squeak. he struggled for a proper response at first, lips peeling open in some form of protest before snapping them shut. compared to the gifts his ‘fans’ gave him ( only if he were painted in a good light ), ann’s cupcakes were genuine, and their slightly misshapen ( only if one were to look really close ) form was proof that all fifteen were handmade, each and every one of them. to think she’d do so much for someone like him...

                   but he eventually relented, a smile, appreciative yet not entirely genuine, either, pulling at the corners of his lips. he set down his briefcase on the floor of the cafe and took the plate in his hands, making a silent wish in his mind. all i want for my birthday is to be special. and he blew the candle’s flames out, feeling as if its warmth had transferred itself to his heart. “thank you, takamaki-san. you didn’t really need to do this, though...”
