we started this song together back in 2020 and picked it back up at the end of 2022

'Older' was originally a voice memo of a 50’s-style love song that we wrote together, then forgot about. when thinking of concepts for my debut album i stumbled across the memo and fell in love with it all over again, but i put it aside yet again as to me, it deserved more than the album

the song has changed a lot from the original voice memo, but the meaning has stayed the same throughout. despite all the beauty, the ups and downs of a long-term relationship over many years, there’s inevitably going to be the worst moment of your love because one of you is going to lose each other

capturing those feelings in a song was tricky but ultimately we wrote from the heart and i think it shows in the song itself

this has always been a song between us, so having him play on this song was very importnt to me and im glad he said yes

looking back at the best night of my life, i need to thank each and every one of you who allowed this dream to come true, i will never be able to thank you guys enough

performing in my dream venue, with my favorite people in the world was something i never thought was possible and yet here i am, writing this still on my high from last night

thank you to my friends; michael, ashton and calum who took the time to come to london and perform their songs with me, thank you for always loving me and agreeing to my crazy ideas

Happy Weekend all :) This one was very fun to review for me. Its one of my fav eps of s1. Such good content for Chenford and Lucy. Non stop goodness from beginning to end. Had to take some screen shots with my phone while watching cause there wasn't a gif for everything. Luckily have new phone so they came out pretty nice. TON of moments and I only get 30 gif/image limit which I hit quickly and felt on this one haha Lets delve in shall we?

1x14 Plain Clothes Day

First off Tim in street clothes? Yum. Gimme. I’ll take that all day. Plus he’s in a Henley too whew lord. What a distraction to have haha Second you can see he’s already fully enjoying himself. Ah plain clothes day. I’m sure Tim has been looking forward to this for awhile. They all look so excited. Lucy is as amped as the other two to make decisions solo. Well that is until Tim opens his mouth.... He is very eager to get under her skin. Asking her what she's looking at? That he's not even there...

You can see the nerves written all over Lucy’s face now. All she wants is to prove herself to him and this is her biggest opportunity to do so. You can see how uneasy she is while the other two still seem psyched af. Oh the amount you will grow in this episode Lucy. You have no idea.

All the T.O.’s start to talk bout their wash out numbers on PCD behind them. Tim saying his is in the double digits by now. 11 to be exact. Tim is an ass and says he’s looking to making it an even dozen today. (Like he would ever actually want that... please Timothy why you always lying? ) Lucy’s discomfort only continues to grow. Poor thing. It’s clearly a tactic to get under all their skins, sadly working on Lucy more so than the others atm.

Lucy is loading up the shop when Tim pulls out an envelope. She sees it has her name on it and asks what he’s doing? Tim informs her that he already filled out her eval. Lucy looks confused as hell saying they haven’t even started yet. How could he possibly have her eval done? Determined to be under her skin and live there today, Tim tells her he already knows how this day will end. So mean good sir so mean..

Lucy is refusing to let him psych her out, but then gets in the passenger side LOL Oh my girl it's gonna be a long day for you haha. He does say Thank you when she leaves the passenger door open for him though ha

Tim hands her the envelope. She is not allowed to look at it till end of shift. I do love her tenacity/confidence after he does this. Lucy has gained back some in this moment. Telling Tim she’s gonna prove him wrong with whatever he wrote about her. As I said earlier she wants so badly prove herself to him. Even if she has to puff herself up in order to do it. Wants Tim to see her bravado before they head out.

Sadly it doesn't last long. Its his mission to rattle her cage as much as possible today. He goes and squashes that confidence out the gate. Because Tim be Tim. The fact that he knows Lucy this damn well is backfiring on her hard. Instead of leaving the garage confident she leaves deflated.

Doesn’t take long for Lucy to find her first criminal of the day. A perv pretending to be a cable guy filming a woman in her house. I do love Tim watch her during it all. The way he silently observes as she handles it. Her taking that guy out with her door was pretty bad ass. Trying right off the bat to show him she’s capable. Lucy is feeling pretty damn proud of herself atm. Caught a pervy guy early on and thinking she has totally got this. That look from Tim is so very telling as Lucy puts that guy in their shop. It's a 'We'll see.' as she puts away their criminal.

Speaking of criminal It should be to look this damn good leaning against a van. Even though Tim is being smug af in this scene, he looks fine as hell just standing there. Ovary explosion for me haha that badge, his Henley riding up over it. *fans self* Eric you’re so attractive it’s not fair haha

Lucy starts rattling off her checklist before they leave. Making sure she's done everything right. Tim is clearly trying to get her to notice the van for which he is leaning on. It’s for more than just looking sinfully delicious. He’s trying to get her to put two and two together and finish this scene up properly. He has his phone in his hands for a reason. Just in case she doesn't pick up on the clue he's trying to emit to her. Lucy senses something but she isn't sure what.

He gives her ‘the look’ the one Lucy has learned and seen for months. The one he gives her when he is trying to get her to think a little more. This is his other way of trying to get her to connect the dots. Now Lucy notices he’s giving her his 'Bradford' look. She just isn’t sure why....

Lucy finally says they’re all wrapped up confidently. That this is a solid arrest. Trying to prove to him she did a good job on her own. Tim pushes off the van as his last ditch effort to get her to notice it. Lucy sadly doesn’t do this or realize what she is leaving behind. Her body language is reading she isn't sure of herself now and no idea why but leaves anyways.

They make it to back to the station and Lucy pulls out the eval when she’s alone. Or thinks she is. Naturally Tim knew she was going to open it early. He knows her like the back of his hand. It’s not the real eval and he catches her. Uses this as a opportunity to tell her about the van she left behind. Tim goes over how she left a treasure trove of evidence on the street. Didn’t process the scene as throughly as she should’ve. Or thought she did. That he saw this coming because he knows everything she is going to do. Lucy panics and checks the pervs phone in evidence and sees he’s texted a friend to get his van.

She rushes back to the scene only to find it gone. Lucy calls it in and finds out it was impounded. Tim had it taken care of for her. Hence the phone in his hand the entire time he was near the van. Teaching her a lesson without actually getting her in trouble for missing evidence. It was a stressful adrenaline rush for Lucy to go back, but she’ll never forget to do that again. She may not think he was taking care of her in the moment but he is. Lucy thinks he’s doing it to humiliate her. She's so frustrated she is lashing out at him.

He explains he did it this way cause she overlooked a massive detail. That he is teaching her to control her environment, be detail oriented and honestly she will never ever forget this. It’s rough for her but like everything else, Tim is challenging her like this because he knows she will rise to the occasion. Lucy wouldn’t have remembered this if he had just handed it to her. She is rattled and annoyed. This is a rough rough start to her plain clothes day.

They move onto Lucy’s next call. It’s for a noise complaint for a dog. Lucy tries to calm the dog down and the dog barks at her. Tim comments this isn’t what he meant by her ‘controlling her environment. ’ The guy Akers is a douche and not good to his dog. Honestly I would’ve wanted to verbally eat him too tbh. I’m with Lucy on wanting to take this guy down. You’re mean to animals something seriously wrong with you IMO. Animal lover in me was rooting Lucy on in this scene. She tells him she's going to make him her 'Personal Pet project' leaving both Tim and Akers stunned.

The way she says that line what a BAMF. Also lets talk about the look on Tim’s face. It’s a mixture of impressed and a little bit of ‘Why am I turned on right now?’ Baha You know he didn’t hate seeing her with some serious confidence after that first crime scene. That attraction for him with her for sure growing in this moment. Sadly even though she feels justified with what she said it comes back to bite her in the ass. She over compensated and threatened the man while trying to prove herself after the van incident. They are called to Grey's office with some bad news.

Akers has decided to call in a rude conduct complaint on Lucy. His way of getting her back for putting him in his place. You can see how visibly upset Tim is over this. Grey tells them he called it in saying she threatened him. To be fair he made the first threat but she’s supposed to be better than him. Being the bigger person always sucks and is never fun. Lucy now faces possible firing and washing out. IA has been notified and Lucy looks devastated.

They go to lunch and she of course is freaking out she’s gonna get bounced. Talia and Tim are talking about it as well. She asks why didn't Tim step in if Lucy threatened the guy. He says its cheating and he is a man of principals after all. Talia is actually very worried Lucy could get terminated. Its then you see that protective side of Tim come out. Saying he won’t allow her to get fired. That this guy is a jerk but there is no way he would let anything happen to her. Plain clothes day or not.

Talia calls him out on that, she thought he was a man of ‘principles’. He of course is going to contradict himself for Lucy. Like in previous ep when Tim said circumstances dictate his actions. Well he’s not going to let this ass hat take her career principles be damned. Any other rookie he would've let wash out. Or even been ok with that. Not Lucy. He wants her to succeed so badly. Everything is different with her. He would go against his principles to save her. That is the thing of importance to note here.

This is the second best scene the entire episode for them. Tim refuses to let his schmuck get her fired. Lucy say's they shouldn't be back here. This guy filed a complaint against her. Tim tells her she's not he is. He’s bending his own rules to save her job. By saying she 'made' the decision to have him save her career. Sneaky sneaky Tim, good way around your own rule.

Lucy recognizes he’s going to bat for her here. That he's had her return them to this house so he can fix it. Tim is going to scrape and claw to keep her from washing out. Even if it means taking on the complaint himself instead of her. I don’t think Lucy has ever had anyone believe in her or protect her the way Tim does. Now at this point in time we don’t know her parents. Or the emotional damage they’ve inflicted upon her. But if you do you can see why this would mean so much to her. It’s a career her parents don’t want for her and were hoping she would give up on, and here is this man who believes in her and is willing to fight to keep her around.

Tim can’t expose too much vulnerability in this moment. So he deflects her appreciation for what he’s willing to do for her. Says if she’s going to be fired it’ll be because of him. The irony of that statement in this moment. Such a small but impactful moment for them. It’s what makes Chenford great. All these small moments that add up to what makes them so damn incredible in first place. That foundation being laid.

The chat doesn’t go in Tim’s favor at all. Acker says he’s going to file a complaint against Tim too. He returns to the car and tells her drive. Lucy notices the dog crying at the garage and pacing. They see blood on it and Lucy says she has probable cause to check. Tim tells her if she’s wrong she will definitely get fired. That this is her call to make though. Lucy doesn’t hesitate in going to check the garage. Acker sees her and tries to stop her.

They open the garage and find the body of his neighbor. Guy tries to take Lucy out. She takes him down easily and Tim looks on impressed as hell with her. Not only for that takedown but her initiative and going with her gut in the moment. She noticed the blood on the garage and knew something was wrong. Then made the right call when the moment called for it. That’s all Tim wanted her to do all day. Trust her gut. He knows she’s a great cop He just needs her to believe that. His goal was to build her self esteem and he did.

This final scene really seals the deal for the building of that self assurance. Tim knows right now she needs some comfort. So he has Lucy read her evaluation. Lucy thinks it’s the end of the road for her so what’s the point? He needs her to know how well she did today. Not the whole day mind you but she was clutch at the end. Lucy is only going to remember what she did wrong today not what she did right. Tim knows this about her. Why he makes her read it. To him it’s not how you start it’s how you finish and she finished strong as hell.

Tim is very attuned to what Lucy needs and when. At this moment in time she needs comfort, and words of assurance. He compliments her for the first time really. Lets her know yeah her day started off really rough. But when the chips were down she didn’t hesitate. She made the right call when it mattered and he knew she would. He is dying for Lucy to see what he see's in her. This scene is the start of that. The start of her believing in herself as a cop. Because when the pressure came at her she was strong, self assured and kicked that situation in the face.

Tim knows this is not the time to hold back what he thinks of her. To put away the tough ass T.O. in this moment. He’s so damn proud of her and wants her to know it. After he's built her up he tries to lighten the moment for her. Makes his little shot of 'Now he has to rewrite the damn thing.' Cause she proved him wrong. He wants to make her smile before her meeting with the Capt. He would never tell her as much but he’s probably so relieved and happy to do re-do her eval. Their foundation is so damn solid I can’t get over it. He believes in her so much. It’s why he pushes her the way he does. I know he thinks she’s exceptional he just needs Lucy to start believing that.

The ending is perfect. The work flirts continue but this time on Lucy’s end. She walks over to Tim and hands him an envelope. Tells him it’s her evaluation of him. Tim tells her that’s not how it works. Lucy replies ‘If you don’t want to read it don’t.’ and cooly walks away. Lucy ushers the boys out before Tim can open it. When he does he realizes it’s their bar tab LOL just like in 1x06 when she steals his wallet he’s too impressed to actually be mad haha such a good episode for them top to bottom.

I’ve always loved music eversince I was a kid and have always been fascinated with concerts of artists and bands I watched online. I told myself that when I am already earning, I would definitely watch my faves. I got employed in the year 2012 and year 2013, I was able to watch 2 concerts. (I did blog about those. You can just scroll through my page 😅) Paramore and The Script were the first ones. And mind you, being a first timer back then, I got scammed twice. So much for being desperate! Hahahaha!

Life happened in the following years - got busy with work and love life? 😬 Yikes! Lol. And eventually with raising my daughter. Although I already have priorities, I figured that I should still have time for myself and enjoy once in a while. Right?! 😜

December of 2019, I was able to secure tickets to Avril Lavigne’s concert and early 2020, got seats for Boys Like Girls and Alanis Morisette’s concerts, too. But the pandemic happened and all shows got postponed obviously.

Fast forward to 2022, Alanis’ concert got cancelled and Avril’s got postponed yet again.

Since the world has already started coping up to the new normal, concerts opened their doors again.

September: The Script

Birth month! And what better way to celebrate it? Watch a concert! 🙌🏻 2nd time for this band. I remember in 2013, we came in late for the concert because of the scam I mentioned. Lol. We were too far to really see them.

This time, we were not able to score the best seats but with a certain stroke of luck, the band sang 2 songs just beside us in the audience. How cool was that? We were like shouting OMG the whole time! They were at arm’s reach, and if not for the stern look of the marshalls, we would have already thrown ourselves at them. Hahahaha! I was kinda sad though that they didn’t sing my fave song. I even shouted for them to sing it but I was heartbroken. But I did enjoy the concert, singing along with the crowd and most especially because I was with my constants. 🥰❤️

October: Boys Like Girls

Their songs brings back memories of jeepney rides to and from uni/duty. When smartphones were not that popular and new songs were heard first through the radio (Thank you, KillerBee!) I remember printing out the lyrics of their songs (in a long bond paper, in small font size, and in 5 columns. Hahaha!) just so I can jam along at home. Lol. The concert was postponed for 2 years, but was finally able to watch them live. 🥰❤️

The venue was not that big compared to regular concerts I’ve been to, but it made the band interact to the audience more. 🥰 I even had PCD for about a month. Lol. For the last song, “Love Drunk”, Martin had the audience keep our phones and just jam along just like the old times. It was very special. 🥹❤️

December: Eraserheads

I was not supposed to watch them because I am not really a super fan. I only know my favorites.😅 But my dear friend who’ve always wanted to watch their concert convinced me. More on nagpapilit pala ako. Hahaha! And it’s Eraserheads! Who would say no, right? You will never know when the next concert would be. 😉

Tickets were priced way too high and yet the ones we got were not the best ones. We thought that being there would just be fine. We will just enjoy the experience. But last minute, we took a risk, very desperate to get better tix and voila, upgraded to Moshpit! 🥹🥰❤️

So happy to sing along with the crowd. 🥰 Indeed a memorable experience for an open-ground concert. A first for me.☺️ “Ang Huling El Bimbo” really hit different. And towards the end of the song, there’s fireworks to cap the night off.

brb going back in time to tell my twelve year old self that one day seven of nine would have a budding relationship with a woman on a new star trek show that also featured q and guinan like that would blow my mind

this is long so im just warning you now before the concert, my brother, @preciousjiminie (aka lizzy) & i were roaming around the city, trying to find a damn bathroom, but we couldn't. 😐 also, there were some people asking us for money and i legit was scared because ummmm, i don't talk to strangers. so when we couldn't find a bathroom, we just went to the line because it felt safer to be there. fast forward to getting into the venue n let me tell you, i was not expecting it to be THAT small. it was tiny but it was so beautiful?? and we were so close to the stage. but b.shoo starts out of nowhere and i was shookth. his remixes were lit af 🔥🔥🔥 but sadly, no one in my area was dancing much to him. lizzy and i were the only ones getting hyped. b.shoo did an amazing job, though. i really really liked the edm's. before b.a.p came on stage, they were playing this vcr and istfg, i saw dae bite his lips or lick his lips or dID SOMETHING WITH HIS LIPS N I LOST ALL MY SHIT RIGHT THERE. i was trying to calm myself down n trying to breathe at the same time but it didn't work out so well 😂 when b.a.p finally came on stage, the only thing that bothered me was that i couldn't see their faces due to the bright ass flashing lights. i thought i was gonna go blind. i have never seen so many lights flashing at the same time. but i tried to not let it bother me. hOWEVER, when i DID see their faces - their golden, god given, angelic structured faces - i felt like i died right there n then. i didn't know who to look at??? they all looked so damn good and beautiful. himchan really blew me away tho. he looks way more handsome in person. bih, ya'll need to see himchan in person for yourselves. but seriously, they all looked really amazing. i was trying to look at them all at the same time but iT WAS JUST TOO MUCH FOR MY POOR HEART. but zelo was so damn extra. he be moving his hips a little too dangerously 🙃 i swear, i saw little kids there. they don't need an 18+ show 😂 okay but jongup's dance moves are so fcken smooth!!! i was in literal awe. it was just so amazing to see it in person. and dae's singing wkwnfksnsk i think i died many times that night 🙃 when b.a.p had their break talk, jongup kept looking at my direction, istg. i waved a couple times at him tho 😂 he kept scanning the audience so that's how i knew for sure that he was the one who was choosing tonight. jongup is sooooo cute tho. the way he talks is so adorable 😩 there's just something about the way he talks that makes me wanna squeeze him. okay, but going on, daehyun's solo stage had mE DYING ON THE FLOOR. i almost fell to the side when i saw him do those dangerous hip moves 😐 i was not expecting to die right there, okay? but i was happy to be blessed by his voice and when zelo came on, i totally forgot that zelo featured in the song for a bit and i screamed so loud. ya know when you find out that you can make a sound you never knew you could? yeah that was me yesterday night. 😂 but zelo's solo stage 😩 his english is so amazing, wtf. my baby boy be taking lessons from rome or something, man. his english was so on point and his song was so adorable wkfnwkska his song was really really nice. youngjae's solo stage tho 🔥 i felt like youngjae was trying to stir something in my heart last night cause that's exactly what happened 🙃 youngjae looked so hot 😩 and his song didn't help at all. i saw a whole other side of youngjae. was pretty bummed out that jonguppie didn't perform his solo tho, cause i was kinda waiting for it, but it's okay. also, yongguk 😩 yongguk is so so precious, ya'll. i just wanted to put a blanket over him and give him all the love in the world. he really is such an amazing leader :") but he was also rude that night 😂 he kept wearing those low hanging shirts where you could see his chest tattoo a little bit and i was just all 😐 i really died a million times that night. i tried my best to record at least the first verse of every song, but there were times where i just wanted to live in the moment. for the ending song, which was b.a.b.y, i just stared at those 6 angels on stage. i stared at them, thinking to myself," holy crap, they're real. they're human. they're right in front of you. after 5yrs of seeing them on a computer screen, they're finally in front of your eyes." i just tried to take in everything about them. from the way yongguk rapped to the way jongup danced so delicately. i just wanted to drink in everything at the moment. i really couldn't believe that they were real. when yongguk started rapping his verse in b.a.b.y, my eyes started watering and i was just all 🙃 there is no way in hell that i was gonna start crying in front of all these people 😂 so i held it in and i just watched the boys from afar. it really was an incredible experience. watching them made me grow this new kind of love for them - like a love that made me want to love them so so much more. they are so so humble and you can really tell that the boys really do love babyz a lot. im so glad to have seen b.a.p & i know that im never leaving these boys :") okay but if ya'll seen a tiny asian girl dancing like it was one hell of a night on the left orch, row s, yeah that was me 😬 i was just trying to enjoy the concert and i honestly didn't see anyone else getting hyped around my section that much. unless i was too blinded by paying attention to b.a.p too much. also, i woke up at 4am yesterday morning cause i had to fly out to get to dallas and all i ate that morning was a tiny cinnamon bun and drunk half a can of coke. i didn't eat anything else that day cause i was busy doing other things. i was on a timed schedule that kept me busy as hell. so kids, take this as a lesson from my mistake, no matter what, eat something before you go to a concert. there were times where i felt lightheaded, but i calmed myself before it could get any worse n lizzy kept looking at me, making sure that i was okay cause she knew i didn't eat a proper meal that morning. so eat something before you go! but yeah, that was my party baby experience. it was amazing. i loved every single moment of it. i loved seeing all the members on stage. i loved seeing their smiles n hearing them laugh. i just love b.a.p a lot, okay? :") please stan them and love them and give them the whole universe because they deserve it so much. but it hasn't really hit me yet that i just saw them live in the flesh. but when it does hit me, boiiiii, you already know that im going to be bawling n having extreme pcd 🙃

It’s finally time! I’ve just moved to London got myself a really cool loft just outside the city and whew chile the relief of it all, as if all the stars aligned Harry Styles just announced a secret show in London. I might actually faint of excitement.

I got my tickets and the show is in a few days, I went out and got myself a brand-new outfit. I’m hoping its subtle, but I KNOW it screams “harry”. I literally have no friends here yet but sis stan twitter has got my back and I already have people to que with, so I don’t look like a total loner.

The next few days fly by and my loft is starting to feel like home a little more every day with subtle hints of fangirl in it, I found this really cute poster of a kiwi that’s hanging just above my fake fireplace in the living room only to be described in one word AMAZING.

There’s a new neighbor in the loft above mine this week who’s being pretty mysterious like, I have not seen them once, but I guess we might cross paths eventually. Who knows they might be cute lol a little romance never killed anyone.

Its concert day and I AM FREAKING OUT like I need to pull it together sis but how could I when the LA show looked so amazing and was literally EVERYTHING. I’ve done a cute makeup look and my hair is in a cute messy bun, but I have never looked this goof, let’s be real I’ve waited on this moment since forever an intimate show of ANY of the OT5 is a dream come true!

I take the subway to the koko and I’m met by a reasonable line. I can tell I’m definitely going to have a good spot!

It’s time to good inside and I have a perfect view of the stage, I am loving life right now. It’s almost showtime and I just know I’m not mentally prepared for the outfits, the live songs but most all just harry in general.

The moment he’s about to hit the stage the whole mood in the room changes, I can smell his dominant aura coming and there he is in all his glory, the crowd goes wild and in the mids of the hysteria I can’t help but stay calm. I can imagine how weird I looked to others, but I’ve never felt so calm, how does he do that?

I think I’ve been going crazy cause I swear I saw Harry glance in my direction a few times, but I hear the opening note of Falling and I lose it like I’m singing along holding my heart with tears streaming down my face. Harry looks over at me and I can’t help but smile even though I look a mess, but he looks at me and winks. He mouths something but I couldn’t tell you if I tried.

The girls around me freak out and honestly so am I on the INSIDE, I can’t seem like a crazy fangirl, now can I? The concert is nearing the end and I never want to lose this feeling!

It’s been a week since the concert, and I’ve been through severe PCD. After the concert the girls I met there, and I went out for a late coffee. Turns out I wasn’t the only person noticing Harry’s continuous glance in our/my direction, so I am not going crazy.

I’ve been expecting a package for over a month right and apparently my mysterious neighbor has had it for the past 3 days and every time I go up to get it, they’re not home. Honestly why take a package if you knew you weren’t going to be home? What sense does that make?

It’s been a week without my package and I’ve honestly had enough, I am over it.

Honestly, I’m on my way up and if I don’t get my package, they can keep it. The books were expensive and I’m looking forward to reading but, sheesh.

The elevator opens and It’s a hall with one door, so I ring the doorbell. Color me surprised cause I see Jeff Azoff in front of me and I’m star struck! When I catch myself, I muster up my most confident voice and say “um hi I’m looking for my package it was delivered here. I’m y/n from the loft a floor down” And an all too familiar voice goes “Jeff who is it” and then there he is once again in front of me. Someone catch me I’m going to faint.

Just kidding he looks at me and goes “Hi I’m Harry weren’t you at the concert last week?” HE KNOWS WHO I AM “ um hi yeah great show by the way” and I look over at jeff with a raised eyebrow cause um  MY PACKAGE and he goes “oh yeah H she’s looking for a package that was delivered here” like being in his presence is so demanding and he hasn’t done anything lol.

“Oh, you’re y/n then?” HE KNOWS MY NAME “yeah that’s me I’ve come by a few times to collect it, but no one was here” I said scratching my neck. Like a dear caught in headlights I hear Harry go “Yeah sorry about that things got kind of crazy for a little bit after the show” “It’s fine honestly It’s just a few paperback books I’ve been waiting to read” he gives the cutest little chuckle and tells Jeff where to locate the package before turning to me and going “ You caught my eye during the show you looked so wrecked during falling I was genuinely worried” I couldn’t held but laugh “Let’s just say the song hit home haha but I had the time of my life, don’t worry” he looks at me with the most amazing smile I’ve ever seen and I feel a slight blush making it’s way to my face as he replies “Well seeing as you live a floor under me does this mean I’ll be seeing you more?” I chuckle “If you want to, I can always leave a piece of me in the way you dress” and we both started laughing “I might actually like that especially if it’s the shirt you wore to the concert” what can I say ladies gentlemen and everything in between and far outside those norms a good outfit always does the trick. “It was cute wasn’t it? haha I was worried it would’ve been a bit too much if I’m honest” “You looked amazing.”

Before I got the chance to freak myself out over the fact that I am actually flirting with Harry Styles, there comes Jeff with the box of books. “Those are heavy what did you order bricks y/n?” I laugh “They’re books haha” Jeff puts down the box and Harry picks it up the box and offers to help me bring it down to my loft. We head towards the elevator and got in when Harry says, “So how about we have coffee this week?” I look up at him and see him smiling down on me “I’d really like that; we can have coffee at my place if you’d like?”

I open the front door and tell him to place the box on the couch while leading him to the living room. I can see him scoping out the loft before his eyes land on the framed kiwi photo “Don’t tell me you’ve got a lyric letter sticker somewhere with the lyrics to Kiwi as well” he says laughing “haha Harold I just might put up the ‘Holland tunnel for a nose it’s always backed up’ lyric” I said while winking.

After 20 more minutes of casual flirting he announces he must leave so I walk him to the door and give a peck on the cheek thanking him for helping me with the package.

As I close the door and turn to the mirror to freak out, I see what I look like and freak out for a whole other reason I LOOK LIKE A MESS.

Harry styles is my insanely hot and talented neighbor and I met him looking like a whole MESS.

Precure Daily Halloween Special 2019

Episodes: SPC 37, HaCha 37, GPP Movie, MPC 38-39, KKPC 37, HUG 38, STPC 37 Dates watched: 30-31 October 2019 Original air dates: Sunday in October 1-2 weeks before Halloween, 2011 & 2016-2018, and the Saturday of Halloween, 2015

Is that little girl in the witch hat dressed as Akko from Little Witch Academia in a nod to her seiyuu, Han Megumi, playing Hime or is this just a coincidence? These are the questions that keep me up at night.

You may remember the PCD Christmas Special I did last year, where I watched every Precure Christmas episode and compared them to each other, charting the common elements and evolution in how they handle the subject. Well, I really love Halloween, but for a while, Japan didn’t celebrate it. It only started to catch on in the late 2000s and into the 2010s, and so despite several episodes of Precure airing on or near Halloween night over the years, the first time it was brought up in the franchise wasn’t until 2011′s Suite Precure. You can read more about how it became acceptable to celebrate and the ways in which the Japanese people enjoy themselves in this article, but the important takeaways are that Halloween events are more about food and festivities, and trick-or-treating is a highly organized activity, no going door-to-door.

At this point in the shows, all extra heroines have been introduced and the team is usually on the cusp of acquiring a new powerup. The villains have suffered significant losses and are preparing to pull out some form of trump card (this will facilitate the team getting their new attack). Typically, the monster of the week will be made from a Jack O’Lantern or some other Halloween decoration. In more recent years there’s been a tendency to explain what Halloween is about, but they don’t always do this. The biggest draw of a Halloween episode, though, in my opinion, is getting to see the characters in costumes. I’m going to briefly run down each Halloween episode (or movie) and then compare common elements at the end.

Note: At the time of writing, I am about 6 episodes behind in Star Twinkle Precure, did not wish to skip ahead for the purposes of this article, and didn’t have the time to catch up. I will add my thoughts on STPC 38 at a later date, and I will announce when I have done this via a reblog to @pcd-status​. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Suite Precure 37 - “Wakuwaku! Everyone Transforms for Halloween!” Original air date: 30 October 2011

With Mephisto freed of his brainwashing, Falsetto takes charge of Trio the Minor and leads an attack on the girls. Ako has decided to stay in the human world, and the older girls take her to a Halloween celebration to brighten her spirits. Ako isn’t really enjoying herself, but some younger kids rope her into playing with them and that brightens her up. When Trio the Minor turn a pumpkin into a Negatone, they try to perform a new attack with Crescendo Tone: Precure Suite Session Ensemble Crescendo, but it falls apart, so Ako uses her invidual attacks while the older trio uses their group finisher. At the end, Falsetto sings an incomplete Melody of Sorrow to speed up Noise’s revival.

Costumes and references: Hibiki is dressed as a pirate, but specifically she resembles a genderbent Captain Marvelous, the red ranger from the contemporary Sentai series Gokaiger. Kanade is dressed as a pumpkin witch. Ellen is dressed as a black cat, an allusion to her true form, and Ako is a dressed as a princess, which she is. (not digging very deep for this)

HappinessCharge Precure 37 - “Big Bang, Defeated! An Unbelievably Strong Enemy Appears!” Original air date: 19 October 2014

Oresky, Namakelder, and Hosshiwa are all feeling weakened after taking the Happiness Big Bang attack, so Queen Mirage concludes they may not be useful to her anymore and prepares her next agent. Meanwhile in Pikarigaoka, Megumi encourages Blue to join them at the town’s Halloween festival, and he agrees. They all begin to share pumpkin cakes with each other, a local tradition. Seiji shares his with Megumi, Megumi eagerly shares hers with Blue, and the other girls look on from a distance as they recognize the love triangle unfolding in front of them. Oresky appears, trying to ruin the Halloween festival that makes people happy and attempting to prove his worth. He really wants to be the number one general in the Phantom Empire, as he feels that if he’s not first, he’s worthless and he doesn’t want to be replaced. The girls transform, and begin to persuade him that there’s enjoyment to be had in fun things, and it’s okay if you’re not first. They hit him with Happiness Big Bang and it begins to purify him, when suddenly an attack interrupts it. As the smoke clears, their new opponent is revealed to be a corrupted Cure Tender, Iona’s missing older sister.

Costumes and references: Megumi is wearing a Halloween-themed dress, orange with jack-o-lanterns on it. Hime is dressed as a princess, which much like with Ako, seems kind of low-effort since she’s an actual princess. Yuuko is dressed as a witch, and Iona is a fortune teller. Also, Blue is dressed as a vampire.

Go! Princess Precure: Go! Go!! Gorgeous Triple Feature Original release date: 31 October 2015

The Princess movie was experimental, being made of three shorter films: a chibi short with no dialog, a 50-minute traditional feature, and a 20-minute all CG adventure. The film leaned hard on its Halloween theming, with Pumpkins and Halloween being prominent motifs in all three parts. I’ll break them down individually.

Cure Flora and the Mysterious Mirror

This is a cute sketch where Cure Flora finds a fancy crown, puts it on, and accidentally startles some mischievous sprites on the other side of what she thinks is a mirror. They have the ability to transform, so they take on her appearance and mirror her, but they forget to duplicate the crown and eventually they begin to compete with the real Flora, doing tricks. She accidentally breaks the crown, so the sprites decide to transform into a special pumpkin outfit for her, just as the other girls come in. The 5-minute short uses a super deformed art style with all CG animation and has no dialog.

Costumes and references: Cure Flora’s pumpkin dress and hat.

The Pumpkin Kingdom’s Treasure

Haruka, Minami, Kirara, and Towa are transported to the wondrous Pumpkin Kingdom, where the royal chancellor Warp is hosting a Princess Contest to find a princess for the kingdom. Towa, being well-versed in evil schemes, smells a rat and is on edge. Haruka finds the true princess of the kingdom, Pumpururu, who is locked away, and learns that the Pumpkin King and Queen are under Warp’s control. Minami, Kirara, and Towa each win their rounds in the contest, but the former two are captured while Towa is able to avoid capture. Haruka participates, even managing to snap the monarchs out of the control. She transforms, frees the others from their capture, and Warp transforms to a giant monster. Pumpururu, the sprites, and the Precures’ strong feelings summon Halloween Dress Up Keys that the girls use to defeat Warp and save the Pumpkin Kingdom.

Costumes and references: The girls get special outfits to wear for the Princess Contest (not halloween themed), as well as Mode Elegant Halloween dresses that feature pumpkin flowers on them.

Precure and Leffy’s Wonder Night!

This is an episode-length feature using the CG animation style from the dance endings. Haruka discovers a doll on her desk, when she’s suddenly transported to the Pumpkingdom, already transformed, and the doll is now a girl named Leffy. Leffy tells the cures they need to defeat Night Pumpkin, who has taken over Pumpkingdom and stolen the daylight from them, making it always night. What follows is essentially an ongoing chase through the city to the top, where they fight and defeat Night Pumpkin and restore daylight to Pumpkingdom. Haruka is then transported back to her room, and the Leffy doll is gone. It’s worth noting that Leffy appeared as Pumpururu’s doll in the previous portion. The connection to this section of the film is unclear. Also, Minami, Kirara, and Towa do not appear in their civilian forms at all.

Costumes and references: Leffy isn’t overtly pumpkin themed, and nobody else gets any special forms in this one. However, there is a glorious moment where Flora accidentally bonks Night Pumpkin on the head.

Maho Girls Precure 38 - “Is it Sweet or Not? The Magic Pumpkin Festival!” Original air date: 23 October 2016

This isn’t explicitly a Halloween episode, because the Magic World doesn’t celebrate Halloween, but they have fall traditions that involve pumpkins and sweets so it counts. Their tradition is to chase a Pumpkin Bird that appears every year. It shoots candy from its mouth, and if it hits someone, they turn into a giant piece of candy. If you capture it, you get a special prize. One of the villains brings up the actually valid point that the creature may not like being chased and that’s why it runs, but Mofurun talks to it and finds out it just has a cavity. The girls transform into Topaz Style to fight Shakince in a creatively silly battle. When they beat him, Mofurun gets the credit for “capturing” the Pumpkin Bird and so she gets presented with its prize, which turns out to be a seed that grows into a tree which sprouts toothbrushes. I am not making that up.

Costumes and references: Mofurun gets a special orange and yellow dress to wear when she receives the prize but it’s never shown in closeup from the front. Also, there is a cameo appearance by Watanabe Mayu, who sings the insert song for the Maho Girls Movie that was in theaters around this time, and also served as the ending theme for episodes 38 and 39 (only on the TV version, on home release they use “Magic a la Domo”). She makes a special appearance as herself. Even better, in a flashback, she’s seen beside giant statues of Mipple and Mepple.

Maho Girls Precure 39 - “This is Halloween! Everyone, Smile!” Original air date: 30 October 2016

The girls from magic school come to visit the non-magic world and learn about Halloween! But Jun, Kay, and Emily have to be reminded, even when things seem bad, to not use magic to help out. The students of the non-magic world are running a crepe stand and the magic world students decide to chip in, and after being scolded for using their powers, they learn how to do things the old-fashioned way and appreciate the value of hard work. In the middle of all of this, Ha-chan changes costumes almost every scene. Benigyo is extremely confused by all the Halloween festivities and doesn’t understand what the girls want when they tell her to stop ruining it. They never do give her a proper explanation, but she summons a Donyokubaaru that blows air and the girls have to transform to Sapphire form to fight it off. There’s a small plot point about Mirai’s grandmother recognizing the magic school Headmaster from her own youth. At the end of the episode, it’s implied that Liko’s father has made a big breakthrough about relations between the magic and non-magic worlds, and more ancient powers. Kind of a disjointed episode.

Costumes and references: Mirai is dressed as Mofurun, Liko is dressed as a cat in an orange and purple dress, Mofurun is dressed as Cure Miracle, Chikurun is dressed as a bunny, and Ha-chan is dressed as:

and a thunder god (Raijin)

And just a cool thing I noticed, the final stage for the ending dance was updated with a Halloween theme. I’m really curious why, since they replaced the ending with “The Right Way to Use Magic” in the initial television broadcast of this episode, and I don’t think the Halloween version was seen in any previous or subsequent episodes.

Kirakira Precure a la Mode 37 - “Salut! Ciel is Going Back to France!?” Original air date: 22 October 2017

Ciel’s old boss, Madame Solaine, finds her and tries to get her to come back to Paris and work for her there, feeling that Ciel’s talent is wasted in this small town. Not wanting to admit that she initially came searching for her brother, and that she’s got responsibilities as a Precure, she tries to demonstrate what she likes about Ichigozaoka. Everybody is worried that Ciel is going to leave, and even lowkey encouraging her to do what’s best for her career, but she wants to stay. Ultimately she wins Madame Solaine over with a dish inspired by Ichika’s cooking style. Elisio is the antagonist of this episode but I honestly found the battle to be completely irrelevant. The most notable point for the villains is that Grave makes some kind of discovery at the end of the episode.

Costumes and references: Their costumes here are modifications to their patisserie uniforms. Ichika is a jack o’lantern, Himari is an angel, Aoi is a devil, Yukari is a cat (of course), Akira is a vampire, and Ciel is a witch.

HUGtto! Precure 38 - “Charged with Happiness! Happy Halloween!” Original air date: 28 October 2018

Hagukumi town is going to be hosting a Halloween Party, with Papple’s business providing food and entertainment. Daigan is tasked with food prep, but he gets frustrated with a very delicate task, and a visit from Bishin has him questioning his loyalties. The girls are ready to hit the town, and have even prepared costumes for Harry and Hugtan. They made a lot of costumes for Hugtan, in fact, but Ruru detects that she doesn’t really like any of them, so they ask her what she wants to be, and she responds “Pwecyua!” They set to work making her a Precure costume in short order, but an Oshimaida attack secretly requested by Daigan threatens the party. The girls transform and make a show of it to keep people’s spirits high, finishing the monster off with Cheerful Attack. Papple knows that Daigan was responsible and chides him for defecting, even momentarily, and informs him that everybody loved his food. Up at Beauty Harry, the girls finish Hugtan’s costume and show her to Harry, who briefly has a flash of Cure Tomorrow.

Costumes and references: Hana is a witch, Saaya is a lolita devil, Homare is a cowgirl, Emiru and Ruru are pirates, Harry is a werewolf (because he’s.... hairy, IDK if that was the joke), and Hugtan is dressed as Cure Yell. Foreshadowing ahoy!

Star☆Twinkle Precure 37 - “Cryptids Will Win! The Halloween Costume Contest” Original air date: 21 October 2019

Mihoshi Town is having a Halloween costume contest with prizes for best group, so everybody brings their A-game. Except Yuni, she takes the chance to walk around in her true Rainbownian form. Everybody is having fun and the girls get to explain Halloween to Yuni and Lala. Unfortunately, Kappard is hanging around, reminiscing about what happened to his planet, and he doesn’t like the festivities. Everyone thinks he’s just dressed as a sexy kappa and they want pictures with him, which annoys him even more, so he steals one arguing couple’s imagination and goes on the attack. In an effort to guide him away from all the people and hide their identities, when the girls transform, they claim to be the Mihoshi Stars and do a full Sentai roll call, finally settling the debate over Milky and Cosmo’s color designations. (I was probably one of the last people to maintain that Milky was blue by this point, tbh) They lead him away from the festivities and then try to talk him down, but all he can say is he doesn’t believe different species can live in harmony, that Lala and Yuni are living a lie by celebrating Earth customs, and he doesn’t understand this holiday at all, so they defeat him and return to the festival. Elena wins prizes as part of two different groups, but Kappard is declared the overall winner. Too bad he’s MIA. This episode doesn’t do much for the plot, but it does give a little backstory to Kappard, as we see that his planet got destroyed by a non-native species monopolizing all of their natural resources. Considering what we see of Eyewan and Tenjou in the next few episodes, it’s possible we’re aiming to redeem the villains. Hard to tell with an ongoing show.

Costumes and references: Hikaru is a yeti, Lala is a tsuchinoko, Madoka is a cat, Elena is a flower (with her family) and a cat (with Madoka and Yuni), Yuni is herself, Fuwa is a sheep I guess, and Prunce is the Michelin Man (TELL ME I’M WRONG).

Analysis

Halloween episodes, unlike Christmas episodes, don’t have as much of a running theme. Halloween is more of a dressing than an opportunity to explore feelings. The placement of these episodes in the series means that things are usually starting to ramp up, but none of them features a major conflict. In a few episodes, the fight with the villains felt downright inconsequential, while it was more meaningful in others. There was a trend in more recent years to explain the origins of Halloween, as a gathering of spirits, but otherwise there aren’t as many identifiable patterns or shifts in patterns as there were in the Christmas episodes, it’s mostly been “this is Halloween, have fun.” The Go Princess movie had the opportunity to make the most of their halloween theme, but instead they just focused on pumpkins, pumpkins, and more pumpkins without really diving into what makes Halloween as a holiday special or significant. It’s an alright movie but it’s a sour note on an excellent series that knew what it was doing. HappinessCharge probably utilized Halloween the best as a setting, using some Halloween traditions to create romantic tension, and I appreciated Maho Girls’s attempt to create a Halloween-ish fall holiday for a fictional culture, and then also bringing those people in to explore our Halloween. Since it’s a newer holiday for Precure to work with, only getting regular exposure since 2014, we might see them figure out more ways to spin Halloween in the future. Honestly I hope so, and I’ll be here to write about it for you.

ok’k, but enough about my dramatic a**. i’ve said this before, but redmare out here reminding everyone that rv is composed of [5] vocally amazing, diverse, powerful, talented, goddess-lvl girls. no joke, they eat CDS. rv’s live vocals go unmatched; it’s THAT accurate + stable. wait,  but let’s talk about s(h)on seungwan – ‘cause girl, shine on me ✨hit that drum? wan, please! she’s unreal. how can someone hit those high notes + perform intensive choreography at the same time? she casually walks across the stage like it’s nothing! wth, that’s not human [she’s actually an angel]. imagine coming for wendy’s vocals? oh! unrelated, but girl is swole!af too.….speaking of top!vocalists, kang seulgi: light of my life. there’s a reason why no one hates this ball of sunshine, b/c she’s the epitome of duality + charisma. poor bby was sick the last few tour dates, but you wouldn’t even be able to tell by the way she performed last nite. you already know there’s no one doing it like her. i repeat, no one.moving on; park sooyoung [pls be my girlfriend], “i’m joy. i’m your joy. you’re my joy!” hol’ up, quick side rant – i was surrounded by men at #redmareinnj, who btw sat down for 95% of the concert + had the audacity to nudge me to move over b/c i was blocking their view(?) wtf, i’m still angry. i was already a nervous wreck, not to mention security told us we weren’t allowed to film [by the end of the nite no one cared, but apparently a fansite did get kicked out(?)] so i didn’t really move all that much throughout the show, but during the part where rv throws the autographed balls into the audience, joy took pity on my poor soul + tossed one to me. she’s the ONLY girl ever. she was the first to notice me out of rv too. *sobs* 💚kim yerim, there’s no one who loves reveluvs as much as this girl. i can vouch that yeri made it her sole mission to wave + make eye contact to every single luvie in each venue. she’s the best. not to mention, her ments! she might as well be fluent in english. Lmao is it obvious who’s my bias?? Monsta X concert in SF and girl ugh DED AF I dunno what’s up with the audio but I don’t even remember screaming those things so ?? LOL

Okay first off, GIRL powerhouse was a mess this year.

Like they were telling us we couldn’t line up in front of the venue until like 12pm. But when I got there, there was a long ass line already.  They also didn’t separate the lines for P1 and P2 + everyone else, so it was a huge ass line with everyone in it?? They were also gonna do a lottery system that was suppose to pick a number and starting for the number picked, the line would start there. Meaning if you’re no. 34 and they chose no. 35, you would be the last person? But they ended up just choosing like 3 different numbers and letting those people go in first. They eventually separated the lines but didn’t tell us which is which so we were in the wrong line for a good 15-20 mins before changing to a different line.

I waited in line for about 7 hours so you could imagine my crazy level getting really bad as time passed but yknow it is what it is Monsta X was actually super playful this year. I don't even have words to describe how amazing and fun it was. Like... it's been days and I still feel like I'm sorta in a haze? I really expected the PCD to hit me like immediately, but really, I still feel like I'm on that precipice? I think it'll hit me soon and I'll be super bummed out (but how can I when they all have individual instas now...)

But no, I didn't get any merch. We didn't get there like late, but the lines to get in were already SUPER long and you could see merch trucks were already pretty bare.

But God, highlights... the whole thing??

Honestly, walking in was like walking into another world. You could already hear how excited everyone was (and also we were upgraded to that suite and it was so BOUGIE it was incredible)

Let me just say: army dress SO fucking cute I was blown away by how cool some of you looked.

Being part of the army bomb ocean was so cool and hearing how excited the crowd was for EVERYONE. Being an older army, I remember when there were times when the crowd was noticeably quieter for some members but now that's not a problem.

I loved the set list, I loved the energy they put into each and every song. I loved that it was a mix of their older and newer songs.

The VCRs (is that what they're called??) when they were changing between songs were really fun and I'm curious if anything is going to be done with those later on down the line (like they both included this dust thing and if there's anything we know about BTS, EVERYTHING is connected somehow.)

I remember at some point near the beginning Joon was talking in English and it slowly delved off into Korean as they started talking to each other and it didn't get translated, but it was just SO cute hearing them joke around on stage with each other.

I think my most most MOST favorite part was at the beginning, when they introduced themselves, and Jin was doing his Joon kinda interrupted him to point out all these people they had those cute little heart signs with his name in it for his birthday. And then when we got to sing happy birthday to him??? Biiiiiitch I was crying I was so happy. And when they changed our lights for him?? He looked so genuinely shocked and happy, I loved it. He deserved it 1000%. I thought I got a picture of it but i don't think I did :(

I really didn't take too many pictures, I was too busy jamming out. My arm hurt so bad the next day from swinging my bomb so much LMAO

I loved when towards the end we got to see a bunch of signs in the crowd. Hobi seeing that one sign of him with his mouth as the O in W O W was so fucking funny. But army put so much effort into their signs to let them know just how much we love and appreciate them and I loved it. We also got to see a sign of Daechwita Tae with his iconic beard and it was SO funny.

And God, their ending mentions. I love them. I love them SO much and how much they genuinely want to do a good job and put out the best of themselves as much as they can. I was in tears the whole time they thanked us for sticking with them even through the pandemic and how they can't wait to come back even better (I heard later they're having a concert in Seoul in March? Damn if I save a bunch maybe I can swing it... jk I'm broke AF) But hearing them speak in English, and goddamn has their English improved, was so heart warming and hearing how earnestly they were speaking in Korean was just overwhelming.

When Joon started crying so did I. He's such an introspective person and I would kill to just sit down on a one on one with him and just talk. Big buff sensitive baby who owns my WHOLE heart.

It was just an amazing experience. There were a few... rude concert goers in our suite, who hogged up like the entire front row, but I was basically in that section for free so I didn't let that bother me. But the girl in front of me was SO hyped to see them perform it was so cute.

After, my friend and I were talking about the concert and she was like "Listen I knew they were good but I didn't know they were THAT good" and I think she had a lot of fun which made me :') she really likes Hobi because we were together when his mixtape came out and listened to it with me and she loved the sound and colors. She tells me she still listens to it sometimes lol and at one point she was like "It's like their faces have been carved out of marble they're all so handsome" and it was just so funny for me to hear because it's like sis... we been knew... but I think we both had a really good time and besides having a little trouble finding our gate, the line didn't take too long and we got to chill out a bit before the concert started.

And you didn't ask but we also went to the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Santa Monica Pier (apparently jk was also in Santa Monica at some point and that makes me squeal on the inside even though it's highly improbable we were in the same area at the same time lmao a bitch can dream) and then just did some walking around and shopping when we weren't at the concert. So not only am I thankful that we got to go to the concert, but I'm also thankful that she and I just got to hang out together because I don't get to see her often. I think she and I are going to try and plan a trip for next year too (Seoul March 2022 👀 lmao)

I would also like to say that, and this is probably because it was the last day and they had a much better handle on it, but I saw people rightfully complaining about the lack of security SoFi had in the beginning (apparently they just stopped checking tickets at some point) but when we went through they checked everyone's vaccination/negative status and checked everyone's bags and tickets. They were lacking in like the ease of knowing where lines started and where to go, but there were so many people there it's not surprising. We didn't get to our seats for about half an hour before the concert, so unless it got really bad after we got in, on the last day they must have taken the first three days to heart and made sure they had proper security.

First Annual Unity Fest Featuring Reggae Superstar Chronixx! 

The most anticipated concert event of the year is finally here! 

Fans have been calling out for one of the most revered reggae artiste of the decade all year long. And now the wait is finally over! 

On Tuesday October 22, 2019, Golden Events held an official press launch at the Bay Gardens Beach Resorts and Spa to unveil Unity Fest 2019, which will be headlined by Reggae Superstar Chronixx.

On Saturday December 14th the Daren Sammy Cricket ground in Beausejour, will be converted into an oasis of love, peace and unity with the sweet sounds of Caribbean music for Unity Fest. 

According to Golden Events ; “as an entertainment and lifestyle company, one of our top priorities is to provide avenues for moments of celebration that can serve as stress relievers for our patrons. We have been hearing the names of artistes Saint Lucians would like to see and Chronixx was on top of that list and so we felt that coming to the end of Saint Lucia’s year-long celebration of 40 years of Independence, Unity Fest featuring Chronixx and a number of other regional and Saint Lucian acts would be quite fitting”. 

Chronixx who is from Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Jamaica, is one of the most sought after Jamaican acts and has been on a whirlwind tour over the past year, coming out of his 2018 Grammy Nomination. 

His music has been branded as a “Reggae Revival,” – his lyrical content revolving around themes of anti-war, romantic declarations and resiliency.

His EP, Dread & Terrible, was released in 2014, and topped the Billboard Top Reggae Albums charts, the week of 18 April that year. It featured hits like “Here comes trouble,” “Like a whistle” and others. Prior to that, Chronixx had already dropped a slew of popular singles including “Smile,” and “Aint No Giving In.” 

The 2017 Grammy nominated Chronology featured “Spanish Town Rocking,” “Legend,” “Skankin’ Sweet,” “Likes” and “I Can.”

Chronixx also made history in 2018, as the first and only reggae artist to appear on Rolling Stone‘s prestigious annual Best Albums list in recent years.

About his music and lyrical flow Chronixx says; “Everything in life is music you know. When music overcomes you, it’s now left to what you feel yourself, and how able you are to physically channel this music. How is your lungs, how is your heart, how is your mind… all of that comes out in the lyrics. As an artist you are the music that you make”.

Unity Fest will also feature Zouk, Compas and R&B singer Oswald Clerveus out of St. Martin, Vayb from Haiti, ft Mickael Guirand of the group Carimi and popular Jamaican sing-jay Agent Sasco (formerly Assassin) with hits like “Almighty Protect Me”, “Something Gotta Give,” “Winning Right Now,” and many more under his belt. 

The ever popular DYP and friends from Saint Lucia will be bringing their party energy to the Unity Fest stage as well as DJs Litchie Sounds and Hollywood HP, with more featured guest DJs and artistes to be announced.

          We love to sing our hearts out—whether it be in a shower, while daydreaming scenarios with your crush, and even after a terrible break-up with someone who you thought you’ll end up with. We simply have that “I’m a strong and independent woman, who doesn’t need a man” song that hypes us up... even though some of us don’t have a “man.”

          The “Hindi Mo Lang Ako Baby, Babae Ako” Playlist features empowering musical tracks that revolve around women—her choices in life, her getting over a guy, and her realizing that she doesn’t need a man to spice up her existence. A playlist that is no longer just a list of musical tracks, but reflects your emotions as a woman… who doesn’t take a crap from anybody, whose heart was broken by a casanova, or who just want to belt out her feelings. It explores the twists and turns of being a woman as exemplified through these musical tracks.

           Girl power anthems throughout the decades honor women—her struggles and strength. These empowering female-fronted tunes serve as rallying cry for women that they can be whoever they want to be.

“I thought I cannot live without you, but turns out I can”

       Imagine a woman with smudged eyeliner and disorganized eyelashes, with a box of tissue at her bedside. Exactly, that’s the picture of someone who just underwent through a major break up. Well, that’s the “typical” response of a woman. Gone are the days when we would cry over spilled milk a.k.a. men who does not acknowledge our worth.

      “At first I was afraid / I was petrified / Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side,” sang Gloria Gaynor in her 1970’s disco hit I Will Survive. The musical track follows the journey of a woman who could not bear the pain of living without her boyfriend. It began with a melodramatic tune as Gaynor sings the first verse. It started out poignant and slow, as if empathizing with the woman’s grief. Listening to the track feels almost watching a soap opera with lots of twist—you just hear all the drama everything unfold before your ears.

      I Will Survive could almost pass as Ariana Grande’s thank u, next older cousin, but with more angst and less gratitude. “I used to cry / But now I hold my head up high and you see me / Somebody new.” She now reached a breaking point where she feels freer than before. This part perfectly encapsulates her Eureka moment: realization that her ex is a trash shaped as human being and that she can manage to be happy without him. The track ended with a happy note­—a distinct trumpet sound—which seemingly implied that she had already moved on, and she’s now ready to jive completely to the music.

“I’m a strong and independent woman, who doesn’t need a man”

        Pussy Cat Dolls (also known as PCD) have been objectified and judged throughout the span of their musical career. Critics say that they are bunch of Barbie dolls—beautiful with no substance. I Don’t Need a Man, an upbeat girl-power anthem from their first album, tells otherwise. The track which spans 3 minutes and 40 seconds sounds like every girl-power tune catered for mainstream pop audience in the 2000s. However, it is not devoid of social relevance.

        “And the way that you stare, don’t you dare / Cause I’m not about to / Just give it all up to you,” sings Nicole Scherzinger, the front-woman of PCD. The line impeccably highlights the thinking that women think with their brains, not with their pants.

        “I don’t need a man to make me feel good,” Nicole ceases to be just a singer of the track, but she now embodies the qualities of a strong and independent woman. “I don’t need a ring around my finger / To make me feel complete,” the songstress further asserts.

          I Don’t Need a Man, in retrospect, can be classified as belonging to the same family tree with Queen Bey’s Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) and Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings, since the tracks are eerily similar. The following tracks imply that women can still do the honors of putting rings on their fingers, even without men. I Don’t Need a Man ended with an expression of freedom and independence—done with a little bit of shout and sass.

“I’m on my way to kick your ass with my sass”

         Little Mix’s Salute is a call for women to fight the system that objectify and oppress them. Salute heavily relies on the military metaphors. The record’s standout element is the air raid siren which signals the beginning of the track—and of the war. “Ladies all across the world / Listen up, we’re looking for recruits.” One can almost imagine an army of women wearing camouflage suit in a boot camp, while listening to the track. It is an invitation to be one with the cause: to topple down entities that bring women down.

        The instrumental’s rhythm registers like a thumping sound of soldiers’ marching feet. “We don’t need no camouflage,” sings Jade Thirlwall to express that women need not hide behind men’s back. Although Salute conveys military themes, men would instantly feel alienated while listening to the track. The songwriters perfectly connect the dots between heavily-masculine army with women empowerment.

        “Get your killer heels, sneakers, pumps, or lace up your boots,” this line acknowledges women’s diversity: that we all have our own character and we are mosaic of all sorts. “Representing all the women / Salute, salute!” Little Mix’s strong vocals exude certainty and courage—characteristics soldier needs before going into battlefield.

        “Ladies, the time has come, the war has begun / Let us stand together.” Salute ends with a compelling voice of a woman who have a distinct mid-Atlantic accent. A typical accent for people during wartime. One can even hear static noise on the voice over to cop the 1940s vibe. “And remember, men fight great, but women are great fighters,” the lady announcer with a thick accent firmly amplifies the message of the track—that women can triumph every battle. One can’t help but say “Roger that” after listening to Little Mix’s Salute.

         Women empowerment through songs have been increasingly popular these days, gone are the days when women were considered as meek and submissive “object,” they are now “woke” individuals who will fight for their rights whatever it takes—and using lyrical notes is one of them. Musical tracks, in this sense, desist to be just pieces of pop music, but it now takes the form of battle cry not only for the songstress, but also to the audience.

I also did theeeeeseee... and I had a lot of.... things... to do...“

  The short of it was I had an amazing time, thank you. But if you’re really in it for the news buckle up and click the break and enjoy. Because I’m gonna ramble which is probably my most fostered skill outside of art and I’m happy about it damn’it. (Hey it’s me from half way through this write up, get popcorn, this shits a little.... uh... l o n g. But you should still read it because past-past me worked really hard and you’ll hurt her feelings if you don’t read it.)

  So here I am like LEGIT a month post AC. My vacation actually started back on the 25th of June. But that’s not entirely relevant other than that’s when my pre- and post- furry fandom friend Serpentsaurus flew into Ohio from halfway across the country to visit for two weeks. Specifically to attend AnthroCon with me but also just to vacation, because why not. Which, for the two of us, would be our first furry convention specifically. Having attended GenCon twice myself I wasn’t really rattled too much by the idea; already having gotten used to the head spinning number of people and the floating feeling the sheer number tended to cause me (I’m bad in large groups :B).   We spend a few days chilling out, learn Arms can’t make it this year (sad face duuude) and setup to hit-up that grinding drive. Leaving the morning of the 29th at 8-ish A.M to drive on the highway for about 4 to 5 hours. All things considered pretty spectacular for a road trip to a con. Not many get that kind of ease of arrival so I definitely cherish it lol. Also makes me partly wonder why I never went before? But it’s probably for the best because I needed some time. Regardless we arrive without incident, pay up the rest of our hotel fee for the furthest possible major hotel we could’ve POSSIBLY BEEN BECAUSE WE DIDN’T REGISTER SOON ENOUGH AND YOU ALL SHOULD PRE-REG FURTHER THAN A MONTH OUT BECAUSE THAT WAS A MISTAKE. And put our stuff in the room, which was certainly okay. And then... it was time...   So stumbling and fumbling we use our maps we had gotten to look up where the heck to go and wind up using our stupid phones to GPS walk our stupid butts to the convention center. Because neither of us had ever been in Pittsburgh and of course we’re lost. We got lost finding the parking for the hotel. As if I’d/We’d make it blind to the damn event. We get there and I come to an astounding realization. Its HOT, like... really really hot outside. Like so hot that walking that 15 minute distance drenched my shirt hot. Which would become a major problem AND IS WHY YOU STAY NEXT TO THE CENTER, PAST ME, HOLY, SHIT. Let’s not even get started on the fact that my right foot had a blister from a walk along the bike trail back at home the day prior. Was awful. So we sit. I catch my breath because I’m totally out of shape physically and then explore the whole center. Which frankly was a great place. I liked the layout there far and away better than that of the GenCon center (take that GenCon, I’ll probably never go to you again, jerk).  We get a nice photo on the top of the center with my phone and experience the pretty night lights and humid air of Pittsburgh, catching food just after. I could talk about the food a lot longer than I should so were just gonna say “It was all very very good”. K? K.   Eventually Serpent walks back to the hotel and I suffer my way there behind him in short enough order even if it didn’t feel like it at all. I shower off the sweat of the day (a common theme of the event, mind) and we bullshit before bed for Friday. It was around this point in time a slight feeling of worry looms in the room. See, my biggest hang up with Furry Cons™ is I always think to myself “What would I even do there?” I had never been to a con without a purpose before. This year I went purely because ‘it was time I did’ and part of me wanted to cure my social life issues. But Serpent was firmly in the same boat I had rowed in for a long while before diving into the FurOcean™ head first. And I guess it became my job to flip the boat... violently. (Its a fucking metaphor, okay? Thankyou).   We get to bed and plot our wake up time and course for the opening ceremony. Which we need to get up an hour before hand for. Wasn’t too terribly hard to do outside of my badge I had made breaking and needing repairs and us being frugal losers and making sandwiches for later during lunch hours. So I swallow my hopes and dreams and take the walk of shame to the con center. The worry following like a stink all the while. But as we get closer we see more and more tails; which is about all you need to really see to know you’re going the right way. By the time we were through the doors the number of people ahead of us was staggering, honestly. I knew the con average population due to prior research, but Thursday was such a poor marker from what we were in for. Especially since Serpent had never been. We follow the flow of traffic and wind our way into opening ceremonies and sit down, which is the best part about it for me honestly. It frankly was a bit hype, really getting me motivated to re-explore the (now repopulated and changed) con space. It was a large smattering of looking around the Dealer’s Den and Artist Alley. In which I got to very briefly say hi to and shake hands with SonicFox5000. Who I admire quite a fair bit for his skills at like... everything. Boy’s got a genius or something, I dunno. But after sending EVO related well wishes we parted and gave him back his space to enjoy the con too. Then going further to pick up a commission from art_eric. Which was a great treat to see the next morning and I love and cherish the piece and will forever.   And at his point I can essentially sum up my experience of the con. Not totally, but mostly. We just kinda hung out -- “Okay Necro, I’ve been listening[reading] but that seriously sounds like no fun...” Hush, you see, you’d think that. Anyone would. But Serpent and I didn’t have any friends attending. So we had few people to visit. In return though we got to just kinda... take everything in. And seriously and honestly and truly?.. it was amazing. It was an immensely relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere. Even for someone who doesn’t take being swamped in 7000 people well. Attending the con is easily one of the best things I’ve done for myself in a long time, especially this year.   Re-walk, re-suffer, eat, re-shower, sleep. Aside from the notable hanging around with some absolute furry strangers at dinner; which was not only a loud experience (although not because of them), but also a quite enjoyable one. The next day had arrived. This was around when it really sunk in that flipping the boat like an Orca playing with it’s food was worth it. We did so much, yet... as I lay there dying falling asleep we both could just prattle on about what to do tomorrow. Even going so far as exclaiming “I can’t believe its still Friday”. Call it fate or whatever. But I mean here we are, away from home, and I don’t want to leave it. But swallowing a little dread of it ending (yeah it took a day and a half to get pre-PCD) I get to bed.   Tomorrow rolls in with it’s painful heat and humidity to batter the con and I for one reason or another get up way to damn early. Well before Serpent and cut my way to the con letting him sleep more. I pick up my commission, choke up a little, and relax. I needed it. A bit different than previous since I was alone this time but at this point I just kind of settled into a nice sitting space and enjoyed the con goers. Talking with some people and then catching up with Serpent for the parade. Which, like everything else so far had been wonderful. Beyond just taking in everything and attending the Sketchbook Swap as well as playing some games we cap the night off with the Saturday night rave (its rave right? like it counts? it counts) and turn in.   Really it’s just kinda of an assumed statement that the whole while this is going on I’m at the bottom of the FurOcean™ and loving it. See I can make my bad jokes relevant and still bad~ Sunday is a lot harder than Saturday though. I somehow managed to replace the worry of ‘not having anything to do’ with ‘I don’t want it to end’. But Serpent and I just soak up the last bits of AnthroCon while we can and finally attend the closing ceremony. We didn’t exactly do much Sunday but in a way I, at the very least, was whipped. So it was totally okay just kind of decompressing from the mess that was the past two and half days. Then comes closing ceremony and the two of us migrating all our purchases to the car before grinding our way home.   What can I say other than “Would go again” really? It’s hard to think of the past month because of it. It’s just kind of this whirl of emotions, and frankly I’m okay with that. Its really a huge motivator to put myself in the community rather than the fringes on the net. Also somewhat eye opening what the true shades of it all is really like. You get a hugely different perspective when you’re there. Sure it had its hangups here and there, you see it mostly from social media like twitter where its easier to find. And sure that those hangups suck. But as an attendee it was awesome and I’m sure the staff will smooth out the remaining rough edges they got snagged on. To which I look forward to next year and hope I can attend for sure. Beyond AnthroCon, this month has just been idly working on some art here and there and getting my social media more up to date. And I’ll have more art rolling down the tubes as we move into next month. Things have taken a huge upswing and I’m more capable of keeping up with things as it is. Precure Day 154

Karen is a character who grows a lot over the course of the show, and since she’s been around for six episodes before getting to transform, she has already had a small journey just to get to this point. That’s something you can’t say about all series that followed the model of introducing their heroes one episode at a time. This episode is the climax of her arc so far, and it’s really making me reconsider who my favorite Character in this series is. Why? I’ll get to that after we recap.

The Plot

We see a flashback to Karen as a child trying to pretend to Jiiya that she doesn’t miss her parents and isn’t lonely, as it transitions to present day Karen staring wistfully out a window before hugging herself, lamenting that she couldn’t save the girls the other day.

At school, the other girls try to convince Nozomi to find someone else to become the last Precure but she won’t hear it. Jiiya happens to be there to pick Karen up, so the girls stop to talk with him, and he asks them to please continue being friends with her, because the other day she seemed to be truly enjoying herself. He explains how she hides her loneliness so as to not burden her parents. Meanwhile, we see Karen in a student council meeting, but she's lost in thought about her failure. When she comes out, she sees Jiiya sitting with the other girls and tells them pointedly that she can’t help them. Nozomi asks Coco why she might have failed the transformation and he explains that if you don’t truly wish to become a Precure, you can’t. Karen insists that she truly did, but then she remembers what she actually said: “If I want something done, I have to do it myself.” She excuses herself and starts to walk home.

Nozomi, not fond of taking “no” for an answer, chases after her. When her attempts to persuade Karen only agitate her, she remembers what Jiiya said and reminds her how much fun they had the other day. Then she hits Karen with the big one: despite their differences, they both really love their parents. Karen pauses and Nozomi explains what Jiiya told her. She says that someone as caring as her couldn’t possibly fail to become a cure. Karen is moved by her words and softens up, but then Bunbee appears, seeking the Dream Collet. He turns the captured Pinky into a Kowaina, so Nozomi transforms but she can’t bring herself to fight it. The other girls arrive and transform but Bunbee and the Kowaina have them on the ropes. Karen, who has been watching from safety, realizes she doesn’t want her new friends to be hurt, no matter how powerless she may be, so she blocks them from Bunbee’s finishing blow.

Her courage and desire to help them, rather than take on all the burden, is enough to summon the blue butterfly again, and this time when it lands on her wrist, it transforms into a Pinky Catch and stays. Karen transforms and designates herself as “The Blue Spring of Intelligence, Cure Aqua!” With all five Cures now assembled, they perform their group roll call: “With the power of hope and the light of the future, our five beautiful hearts will soar! Yes! Precure 5!”

Immediately she gives instructions to the others on how to defeat the Kowaina without harming the Pinky: detach the mask, and keep Bunbee occupied. They use their special attacks (and credit where credit is due, Mint Protection was cleverly used to stun the Kowaina) and manage to separate the mask from the monster without actually harming it, and it shatters. Bunbee tries one last attack but Dream wards him off, and he disappears with a signature complaint.

Mint quickly captures the Pinky, and the five girls celebrate their victory and their future together. That night, at home, Karen calls her mother and admits that she misses her and is curious when she will return home.

The next day at school, we see how their new friendship will play out when Nozomi arrives late to school. Karen scolds her for being late, and Nozomi begs her to let it slide since they’re friends now. However, Karen states that they’re different matters, as their friendship does not preclude her responsibilities. Nozomi slumps and that’s the note we end on.

The Analysis

When we first met Karen, she seemed stern and up-tight. She is looking into the mysterious events at the school to determine whether people are safe, if a student is involved, if school officials need to be alerted. She’s trying to keep the peace and maintain order. But she’s not a bad person. She takes her responsibilities seriously but she also maintains a good friendship with Komachi and presumably knows about her writing. She does the right things but sometimes for the wrong reasons. She has internalized her loneliness due to her parents always traveling and doesn’t want to burden them with her feelings, so she doesn’t acknowledge any situations where she might need help or be able to help, she just takes on other people’s burdens. Nozomi may be the first person to finally crack her shell, to be able to see how she really feels and talk to her about it. Jiiya knew, of course, but he wasn’t able to do anything himself. The power of having a group of friends to help and support her gave Karen the room to be vulnerable and honest with herself, and understand where she failed before. She overcomes her self-isolation and wants to help save her friends, to protect them from certain danger regardless of her own powerlessness. In this moment of self-sacrifice, wanting the power to help others, she becomes worthy of the mantle of a Pretty Cure and is able to transform. Beyond transforming into a Precure however, she has transformed emotionally, as we see after the battle. She’s generally more friendly (though living up to her responsibilities) and more open with her feelings, reaching out to her mother to talk and say she misses her. Her journey is far from over, but it’s already in a great position. I said at the beginning that I was reconsidering who my favorite is (currently it’s Rin) and..... I really do think I might just have to say I love Rin and Karen equally as characters. They do play off each other a lot, we’ll see that soon.

Of course, Karen wouldn’t be here without Nozomi. Here, more than anywhere else so far, she is showcasing that Pink Cure Power that the becomes a staple of the larger casts. She may not be the smartest, the most pure of heart, the most athletic, or the most at peace, but she finds what she wants, works towards it, and doesn’t take “no” for an answer. If not for her, none of the other girls would be here. Her bravery inspired Rin, her strong will inspired Urara, her sincerity inspired Komachi, and now her earnestness has inspired Karen. Nozomi can see things in people that nobody else can, if they need a friend she’s there to be a friend, if they need someone to root for them she’s there to do that. She saw that Karen was being dishonest with herself and found the right words to encourage her, she found the common ground between them and used it to break through Karen’s cold exterior and her feelings of depression and inadequacy about being unable to transform in order to cheer her up and make friends.

Nozomi believe in Karen long after everybody else gave up and I adore it.

Aside from Nozomi, though, Karen has one more player on her side: Jiiya the butler. He serves as the bridge between Karen and the rest of the world a lot, which is fun, but since he has known her since she was a child, he knows how to read her. Unfortunately, just watching her isn’t enough for me so he encourages her friendship with the group and flat out tells them how Karen really feels about bothering other people and why, which softens her to the girls and the audience. Also, showing her burgeoning insecurity at the very start made my heart break. That is a powerful scene, especially the transition between the younger Karen and present-day. I might have to gif that, watch this spot.

P.S.young Karen is the cutest thing.

Let’s talk villains for a minute! This is Bunbee’s second outing and his second failure. Despite how big he talks in the office, when he’s on the field he can’t live up to his own hype. Sure, he makes the girls struggle some, but they’re still coming together as a team, they’re not at full strength yet, and they still manage to defeat him both times, even beating his idea of using a Pinky as a Kowaina so they can’t attack it. He always complains that he isn’t making enough money for field work, or how is he going to explain his failures to his superiors, and generally making other silly comments that tie into the whole “evil business” theme. We’re starting to see that Bunbee is more bark than bite, and next episode we’ll see where he really sits on the totem pole.

Character analyses out of the way, here’s a fun little continuity joke. During the Student Council meeting that Karen isn’t paying attention to, they’re discussing a plan to penalize students who are repeatedly tardy by tracking their attendance at the gate. At the end of the episode when Nozomi is running late, and encounters Karen and the student council performing this task. She gets marked tardy because she slips and doesn’t make it through the gate by the end of the bell. It’s the little things.

We’ve wrapped up the Cure Aqua arc and we’re almost done with the character introductions. This episode was excellently paced and a satisfying payoff to the letdown at the end of the previous one. We got to see Karen come to terms with her own desires and become a better version of herself, and the Pretty Cure team is complete, with each girl bringing a different strength to the group. Next time, Nuts arrives on the scene and he’s carrying a lot of baggage. Look forward to it!
