In a world where the period drama industry is dominated by Netflix and its modern vision of period dramas, PBS Masterpiece's "Miss Scarlet and the Duke", "Sanditon" and "All Creatures Great and Small" are such a hidden gems, a light amongst darkness... quality period drama content.

something something patrick having no one he can trust, and eliza having no one who trusts her. eliza struggling with the people skills and smooth talking necessary to succeed in business that come naturally to patrick and patrick struggling with the honesty and moral compass that are necessary to run a good and ethical business that are innate to eliza. them tempering each other and inspiring each other to do better but also genuinely liking each other as they are, while most people find them both irritating. the way they seem like polar opposites and come at things from completely different angles when they in fact share the same ambitions, world views, and long term goals. the romantic arc is right there.

July: Blue Redux

Miss Scarlet and the Duke (s4 e3, "Origins") / Laura Marcus as Young Eliza Scarlet

This prequel episode takes place in the 1870s. Eliza wears this attractive soft blue gown with matching paisley shoulder cape to a party given by some friends. Although the majority of the series takes place in the 1880s, when bustles were still in style, adult Eliza barely wears them at all, but here she has quite a bulky one that looks rather like upholstery.

The young Duke (played by Matt Olsen) looks very smart as well in a borrowed evening suit!
