It's pretty clear Lo'ak will become very integrated into Metkayina and most likely stay there even after the war is over. This being a coming of age ceremony, in front of everyone, and being accepted by the tribe as an adult would matter so much. He always felt as outcast and friendships with Spider and even more with Payakan pushed him even more there as they were even bigger outcasts. But this would be opposite of that.

After being constantly criticised for hs choices and who he picks as his closest friends/brothers this would be so great. One of his best features is that he never abandons those he cares about - no matter the danger or the social backlash - he sticks to them. He repeatedly saved lives because of that and it saved his life (and others).

I would love if it would also mean Payaka is being accepted back into the society. I also hope that means everyone - including other tulkun - is taking the treat of human hunting seriously. Even if thisppromise of immortality doesn't deliver humans could kill thousands before the ships with the first amrita doses even reach Earth.

And, of course, also sharing this acceptance by the tribe with Spider would be a cherry on top. Spider also has never given up on being who he wants to be, living the life he wants to have and sticking to the people he cares about even when theey fail him. This would be a validation to all of them for sticking to their guns.

Theory: Lo'ak and Payakan will go through Iknimaya in Avatar 3

I've been thinking about this concept art and I've got a guess as to what's going on here: I believe this is Lo'ak and Payakan going through their iknimaya!

When I saw this, the first conclusion I came to is that this must be some kind of Metkayina ceremony involving both the Na'vi and the tulkun. While I was thinking about what kind of ceremony this could be, I remembered something from the Avatar Visual Dictionary:

"adolescent Metkayina must complete a number of coming-of-age rituals, known as iknimaya... one of these ceremonies includes bonding with a tsurak and various tests with their tulkun spirit brother or sister. Once a Metkayina has completed these tests, they are bestowed with a special garment, their first tattoo..."

If you look closely, you can see a small, arched figure swimming directly above the center tulkun's mouth, as if they're dancing or something. I think the tulkun is Payakan and the figure is Lo'ak. Whatever they're doing here is one of the tests they have to undergo for the ikmimaya ceremony. The Metkayina tribe and the tulkun pod are gathered to watch, officially forgiving Payakan and welcoming him back into the pod, and acknowledging Lo'ak as a young warrior.

Another reason I believe this is Lo'ak and Payakan's iknimaya is because of these two images of Spider in Avatar 3.

Since Spider is the only main character who isn't completely CGI, we've gotten some sneak peeks at his appearance in Fire and Ash. In the image on the left, he's wearing the Metkayina warrior garment and in the image on the right, he has a Metkayina tattoo on his arm. According to the Visual Dictionary, young warriors only receive the garment and the first tattoo after they've completed iknimaya.

Now, how Spider "passed iknimaya" as a human with no tulkun sibling is a mystery to me. I can only assume the Metkayina gave him the iknimaya equivalent of the special Olympics. But anyways, the whole I reason I brought up Spider in the first place is because of the fact he went through Iknimaya at all. If Spider, the strange little alien outcast the Metkayina were only just introduced to at the end of Avatar 2 will be allowed to go through iknimaya, then Lo'ak, the boy who lived with them for months, befriended their children, and learned the Way of Water, will definitely be allowed to go through iknimaya. It would be insane if Spider went through iknimaya and Lo'ak didn't considering how much closer Lo'ak is to the Metkayina.

So even if I'm wrong and the concept art isn't depicting Payakan and Lo'ak's iknimaya, I'm still sure they will go through iknimaya together at some point in Avatar 3. Even if we don't see the actual ceremony on screen (which would be a huge disappointment 😭) I bet we will see Lo'ak with the Metkayina warrior garment and tattoos, and we'll possibly even see Payakan get some tattoos too!

Culture- THE NIGHTHAWK RECORDINGS (OMNIVORE RECORDINGS)

This one is a special release for Record Store Day (happening this coming Sunday, 4/13/19) and it presents 7 old/rare recordings from Joseph Hill’s old band Culture. Hill had been recordings since the early 70’s and Culture came about in 1976 and seemed to take Jamaica by storm with their classic sound and unique songwriting. Apparently three of these cuts (“Calling Rastsafari,” “Dem a Payaka” and “This Time”) had appeared on a Nighthawk Records comp called Calling Rastafari. A much tamer version of one of the main cuts on here, “This Time” was recorded much earlier but the band wasn’t totally into it so they redid it here with much more fire and passion. Another of the best cuts on here is the jumpy, politically charged “Can They Run” , one of Hill’s finest ever. On half the cuts here he’s backed by the Roots Radics while the other half he’s joined by the Wailers and honestly, both bands seem like naturals to back Hill and his co-horts in Culture (Albert Hill and Roy Dayes).  A gem unearthed here. www.omnivorerecordings.com

Culture - The Nighthawk Recordings | New EP

NEW ALBUM Culture - The Nighthawk Recordings EP with 7 tracks from reggae legend Culture, includes 4 previously unissued tracks. Calling Rastafari, Dem A Payaka, and This Time were all originally included on the 1982 Nighthawk compilation album, Calling Rastafari. Most of the tracks released on the classic, roots reggae compilation, were recorded during a three-day session in 1981 at the Harry J studio in Jamaica. The Culture songs appeared alongside tracks by Gladiators, Mighty Diamonds, Wailing Souls and others, with most of the songs being unique to the album including those by Culture. Can They Run and Mister Music and their respective versions were recorded two years after Calling Rastafari was issued and languished in the Nighthawk vaults until the release of this special, limited-edition EP.
