Alright so some of you may know that I used to do Eurovision song reviews until about midway through last selection season when it became clear that the EBU would not disqualify Israel under any circumstances. The fact that there is now a ceasefire does not mean I forgive the EBU for how it handled the situation. I will continue to boycott Eurovision proper.

That said, back in December, the Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO officially called for Israel's exclusion going forward, and I think that merits some excitement. The 12 songs for their national selection, EMA, were released yesterday, so I will give those the kinds of reviews I used to save for selected artists. If you follow me and don't want to see all of these posts in a row, go ahead and block the tag EMA reaction.

Next up is Eva Pavli with Niti

This song is beautiful and haunting. Absolutely gorgeous even without understanding Slovene. The translated lyrics seem to be about finding peace within yourself. Even via google translate, it sounds beautifully poetic. Capturing that atmosphere in a live performance is going to be absolutely critical for this song's performance at EMA. This sort of song is fantastic when done right, but can be really let down by a drab staging.
