Crazy things Val had to do for Oliver stone in the doors 🤯🦎👑
1) cut his hair fr (and then the scene was cut 😩)
Tumblr media
2) jump on the stage for Like 12 takes while the real Jim only did it once
Tumblr media
3) walking on the roof of the chateau marmot
Tumblr media
4) In this one he didn't even know he was going to do it.. Oliver made it a surprise
Tumblr media
5) And again.. This time it's hanging from the window
Tumblr media
6) Okay I'll admit.. This one was Val's idea😀
Tumblr media
He was bored! 😪 so he decided to jump from the stage into the crowd.. the stuntman failed to catch him and he ended up breaking his arm 🤕
7) had an actual Wiccan marriage with Kathleen Quinlan 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 performed by a real winccan priestess (aka the real Patricia kennealy morrison🧙🗡️🩸 👀)
Tumblr media
8) had to sing "the end" 🎶 at least 15 times until his voice went hoarse 🗣️ and he collapsed on the stage floor😢
But! Paul rothchild himself was so pleased he hugged Val for like 15 minutes and said it was perfect 😍

Mitchell Mondays #6:
Roses Blue
Tumblr media
... yeah, yeah, I know, It's not a Monday on any level. But since when have I actually published any of this stuff in an organized fashion? I say that it's time to talk about Joni Mitchell.
So, let's do this...
There are just a few songs that invariably scare the Sweet Baby Jesus out of me. Whether it's Tom Waits sharing the last words of a doomed 15 year old after she gets into a van with a vagabond then offering us the cold reality that a little rain never hurt no one or Lou Reed describing an altogether different doomed woman losing her kids to CPS and then Lou inviting the kids in to literally sob while he strums, many of the songs that scare me are short stories I would rather not have read.
The storytelling in Joni's Roses Blue from Clouds is comparatively mild. She dedicates the song to a friend in transition, a woman who's laying her religion on her friends and prophesying vague tarot and star-born troubles. The subject is dark but it's Mitchell's performance that breeds existential dread.
youtube
To begin, there's no safe pace within this song. Mitchell races through the melody then dwells on details: rain on shingles; black cards you cannot barter. Nothing is at peace here, nothing's dependable. Dark priestesses don't follow rules.
And then, in the second verse, one of the record's rare overdubs creeps in; you'll have to tell me yourself what instrument Mitchell is working with here: a mandolin? 6 of them? Or are those just lurching demons? Roses Blue is a soundtrack for paranoia and dread.
Stephen Stills, who sucks, reportedly added some textures to this record; if he's responsible for those mysterious, doom-laden strings it's the greatest moment in his career.
But who am I kidding? Mitchell, who'd been assigned The Doors' celebrity producer Paul A. Rothchild for this, her second record, created all but Clouds' opening track entirely on her own when he conveniently wasn't looking. She ditched at least one overbearing man for Roses Blue so surely she ditched Stills as well.
And what other song out there has a character like this: a sloppy witch who sounds like a charlatan but still manages to terrify us? Stevie Nick's Rhiannon comparatively occupies an episode of Scooby Doo. In a world of songs inhabited by beautiful women, endless men and the love lost and won between them, the troubled lady in Roses Blue stands alone.
One of the best nights of my life was spent knocking back tequila and playing Settlers of Catan with a whole pack of manfriends at one end of a giant room while our wives got deep into the zodiac at the other end. We men thought the ladies were joyfully full of crap; they knew we were. But no one there was out to get one another Roses Blue style; instead we were a broad circle of mirth.
I hope you are able to form just such a circle yourself this New Years!

Janis Joplin Once Broke A Bottle Over Jim Morrison’s Head...
Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison had a love of drinking in common, but Joplin was turned off by Morrison’s obnoxious behavior. At a party held by producer Paul Rothchild, Joplin rejected Morrison’s advances, but he persisted — until Joplin hit him over the head with a bottle of Southern Comfort. According to the biography, “Break On Through: The Life and Death of Jim Morrison” by James Riordan, despite being knocked out by the blow, Morrison continued to admire Joplin, enthusing, “What a great woman! She’s terrific!”
