Thank you for the tag @strandnreyes and @freneticfloetry and @lemonlyman-dotcom❤️
I like this little moment between TK and Owen in Flashback Fic and wanted to share.
By 8 p.m., TK is alone in his bedroom with only the desk lamp shining. He’s over on his bed, back turned on a half-hearted effort at homework. American History. Colonies schmolonies. Blah blah snooze.
He leans with folded arms against his windowsill, chin nested in the crook of his left elbow while he watches the snow clatter and puff against the glass. It’s coming down thick. Busy days and nights await Owen. He'll be cutting open cars to extract people freezing to death inside, and coordinating ice rescues, and inevitably putting out fires started by electric heaters. TK wishes he could be with his dad on those missions – in the teeth of it, doing something practical and useful. He’s no good in school but for that weird string of As in Biology - which is mainly down to Mr. Patel for being great at his job. It’s a drain on society that he has not dropped out. Yet, he can’t bear to suggest it to his parents, who are having an amicable conversation at the kitchen table right now. They can agree on their love for him, and their disappointment in him.
The muffled sound of their voices stops abruptly. He hears footsteps tread the floorboards, heading towards his door.
A single knock. Owen opens up without being invited. “Hey – I’ve got to head off now. I need to be at the firehouse bright and early. You're sitting in the dark?”
“You don’t want to stay on the pull-out?” TK sniffs. They’ve made the spare bed up for him a few times before. “It’s a mess out there, Dad.”
“I don’t want to be caught here tomorrow. It’ll take me too long to get across town.”
TK glances at his wet window, at the snow splattering on impact. “It’s the longest night,” he says, and it does seem unusually dark beyond the white drift.
Owen wanders over to squeeze TK’s shoulders through his purple American Apparel hoodie. “You feel cold. You need to eat – there’s a plate for you in the oven. It’s still warm.”
"I'm just not hungry."
"TK."
"I'll barf."
"You won't."
"I feel nauseous.”
“Because you haven’t eaten. Come on.” Owen tugs lightly at the white drawstring of TK’s hood and then harder at the hood itself. “I’m not going to stop doing this until you come into the kitchen.”
TK tries to brush Owen’s hand away, but Owen only strengthens. “Fine,” TK grunts. He’s in enough trouble as it is.

Ghosts has delivered one of its best episodes of the season, perhaps of the series with Season 4’s “Ghostmas” special, “A Very Arondekar Christmas” Parts 1 & 2. Helping deliver laughs and heartfelt feelings is star Rose McIver as living Woodstone proprietor Sam who welcomed her husband Jay’s (Utkarsh Ambudkar) family for some Christmastime chaos.
While viewers have met Jay’s sister Bela (Punam Patel), this extra special episode made way for the introduction of their parents, Champa (Sakina Jaffrey) and Mahesh (Bernard White). But before Sam has a chance to try and win her in-laws over, a task she’s been working on for years, a broken water heater leaves Jay and Sam both possessed with spirits from the mansion as Pete (Richie Moriarty) and Nancy (Betsy Sodaro) invade their bodies.
To say the double possession throws a wrench in their plans would be an understatement, as Nancy takes over, controlling Sam’s actions, food intake, and overall conversation with mother-in-law Champa. Jay is lucky in that he’s embodied by the level-headed Pete, but there’s just one issue, the remedy of crossing the ghost border wouldn’t work for Jay like it ends up working for Sam who drives Champa’s new car through the boundary, unfortunately wrecking the vehicle in the process.

As fans will recall, Pete’s gift is that he can cross the ghost boundary without issue, so Sam and the rest of the ghosts come up with an idea to push Pete out of Jay through an exorcism in hopes that the souls will be separated. Of course, in a comedy like Ghosts, such a feat is never going to be executed smoothly. Instead, Jay’s actual spirit is pushed out of his physical body as Pete continues to inhabit him, but one silver lining to the predicament is that Jay can actually see the ghosts and interact with them.
It’s rather heart-warming despite the anxious energy around such a predicament. In a kind gesture, Jay allows Pete to take his body out so the ghost can bid his daughter and grandson farewell as they’re set to move away. Accompanied by Sam, Pete gets to say a final farewell, even if his family isn’t aware of who is possessing Jay’s body. When he hugs his daughter, Pete’s spirit is finally pushed out of Jay’s body which is left in a limbo zombie-like state without a soul being housed in it. Eventually, they get back to Woodstone where Jay manages to reinhabit his body in time to reveal to his dad that he’s naming the new restaurant Mahesh after him.
In one final sweet moment on Christmas morning, Sam learns she’s been added to the highly-coveted Arondekar family group chat, making her holiday dreams come true. Below, McIver delves into the holiday episode’s big moments from Sam’s possession by Nancy to that exciting family triumph at the end of the installment. Scroll down for her answers and let us know what you thought of the episode in the comments section, below.

Sam and Jay are both possessed in this episode, by Pete and Nancy. What was your reaction to learning about the storyline and what was it like playing opposite Utkarsh Ambudkar while “possessed”?
Rose McIver: It’s so much fun. I love that the show has been on the air long enough that we have mythology we can expand upon. And to do a double possession, it’s so much for us to sink our teeth into. And I really loved the three versions of Jay that we get to see in the second episode. It was kind of getting into some mind-bending stuff there. And to be able to play Nancy [who is portrayed] by the inimitable Betsy Sodaro, I was honored and she could not have been more gracious and generous, taking time to record voices for me to workshop. She was on set. She was helping call out stuff from behind the camera… She could not have been more generous. I’m very indebted to her for all her work on the episode.
How did you get into embodying Nancy for the possession?
It’s so liberating to play a character so unlike Sam. Half the work felt like it was done for me in the disparity between these two characters. And so it was a real pleasure and a challenge to be able to free myself of some of Sam’s [qualities]. I don’t think she is always uptight, but she’s a little bit more concerned with people-pleasing, and obviously, that’s not Nancy’s bread and butter. So it was really fun to dive into something so different. And I was told while we were shooting this about a gateway word for an impersonation and that often there’s one keyword or phrase that people use to try to channel somebody. And for me, it was very much Stuart, the way [Nancy] says Stuart and the way she bullies him is something very iconic to me. So I would find myself in the middle of takes coming back to Stuart.

Sam was also possessed by Thorfinn in the past, another ghost who had a strong pull toward food and a penchant for getting messy. Is that part of the fun of playing possessed? Being inhabited by messy ghosts?
That’s what is so fun, is shedding the restraint of a character. Somebody like Sam who operates under much more obligation and is more concerned with societal norms, the mess, the chaos, and letting go of all that is a lot of fun. I would love to see within the cast how everybody embodies these different personalities. I think Alberta’s Nancy would look very different from Thorfinn’s Nancy. So it’d be fun if everybody gets to cross over a little bit more. It’s a really cool device in the show that has so much potential.
This episode welcomes Jay’s parents Champa and Mahesh into the mix. What was it like getting to explore the story arc with them?
It’s the core of Sam, to me. The heart of Sam [is she] wants desperately to belong and be part of a family and be needed and included. So it was almost as exciting to me as getting to be possessed by Nancy, to explore a little bit more of what she really wants, what drives her. [Sam’s] desire to fit in with Champa and to get her approval speaks a lot to Sam’s own childhood. So I loved that stuff. I thought there was a lot to mine there. And it became a bit like life imitating art. I was so obsessed with Sakina Jaffrey who plays Champa and Bernie who plays Mahesh, but in particular the sort of dynamic that Sam and Champa have. I found a lot to mine in real life where Sakina arrived and she’s just so funny and relaxed and effortless seeming… she was a very endearing person to get to want to be close to.
Through the possession, Jay was finally able to see the ghosts, was it fun having everyone engage in that way without having to pretend he couldn’t see the other cast members?
Yeah, I mean, it’s not a simple thing to shoot at all. And we work very fast on our show. We have an ambitious schedule, and so everybody really stepped up and I think that the results are fantastic. It’s a very novel way of seeing Jay and seeing his character, and I think there was a lot to mine there as well.
Now that Jay has interacted with and seen the ghosts, will that change things for his dynamic with Sam going forward?
I think it’s an incredibly pivotal moment in this series because Jay is a character who has built relationships with people that he hasn’t seen or heard for years now. And for him to finally be able to locate those people and situate all of these ideas in real figures in front of him, it’s got to change everything going forward. He has visual references, he has tangible memories of being with them and being one of them and actually having an experience that Sam’s never had, which is to physically interact with them because as a ghost, he was able to hug them. And he’s now kind of got one up on Sam in that respect.
Pete has been able to travel around this season, what has that been like and did you feel the emotional weight of saying goodbye to his daughter and grandson, potentially for the last time?
Absolutely. I think Richie Moriarty is the king of pathos. He has so much, he could be a full-time brilliant, dramatic actor. He just happens to be too funny for his own good. So he’s ended up in comedy. But anytime we get to explore the depths of Pete’s personality and plunge into his family relationships… I love all of that. I think a holiday episode always evokes feelings of family and questions around family. And so that was a beautifully poignant element to the story and really great storytelling by the Joes [Port and Wiseman].
Considering Jay’s dedication of his restaurant to his dad Mahesh, is there a hope we’ll see the family together again before Season 4 is through?
I think if you name your restaurant after your father, you stand a pretty good chance of getting a return visitor. So I really hope so. I think there’s so much to explore with Jay’s family, and I think all of those performers are brilliant. I’m always a Punam Patel fan, who plays Bela. And the version of Jay that [family] evokes. Seeing him in a really significant context and seeing where he’s from and what he’s about and the stuff that he’s navigated, I think it feels like a luxurious amount that we can unpack and explore. And so I really hope that they come back sooner rather than later. And the restaurant, it’s a very ambitious undertaking. They now have a hotel and a restaurant that they will be full-time managing and operating. And I don’t think that we can imagine everything is going to go smoothly.

And this is what the “raid” looked like most of the time: The “attacking” faction chatted their rivals up, helped themselves to their leftovers and danced to their stereo (until I broke it, but then they just turned to chat more). It was the most polite raid ever.
Robert: “It’s a party, guys! A raiding party, haha!”
Godefrey: “Hahaha! But don’t worry, Andersons. We’ll have eaten up and be on our way back to Detroit right in time for you to report to work tomorrow. Don’t want to get in the way of your rehabilitation!"
Tumblr media
Daniel: “I can’t believe you take the loss so easy. That treasure destroyed Hank’s career and your whole future, Gavin! Returning it to the japanese government would have redeemed you all! But now... now we’ve got nothing...”
Gavin: *snore snore*
Daniel: “And how can play you SimClinch as if nothing had happened, Tina?!”
Tina: “Two words: thermostat assassination.”

In the common room one by one the Fowler enforcers felt nauseated. At first they didn’t think anything of it. Partying hard did that to a man, right? But then first Alexander and then Antony keeled over on the spot. The only one immune to the sudden breath impediment was Rika, the Fowlers’ android. But without anybody to give orders, she just went outside to play basketball:
Tumblr media
Rika also took a bubble bath, she really enjoyed herself at this trip, as if it was a workplace outing instead of an attack. Most innocent soul in any parallel universe!
When the police arrived twenty-five minutes later, officer Patel could only stare in disbelief at the mobsters rendered helpless without any sign of physical violence.
Tumblr media
Hank: “It was a gamble, really. We put stinkbugs into the room heaters. When the Fowler firm switched them on, the green bastards got stressed from too much heat. And when a stinkbug gets stressed, well, nomen est omen.”
Carlos: “Eww... How come you were immune?”
Hank: “Weren’t. We counted on us being able to hold up a couple of minutes longer from previous exposure to the little shitters.”
Gavin: “We’ve learned to be creative with trash, just like the landfill owners wanted us to, haha!”

ADVANCEMENT IN AIR & PROCESS GAS FLOW MONITORING IN CEMENT PLANTS FOR PROCESS OPTIMIZATION
https://leomi.in/air-and-process-gas-flow-monitoring-in-cement-plants/ADVANTAGES OF INSERTION THERMAL MASS FLOW METERING TECHNOLOGY AGAINST CONVENTIONAL FLOW METERING ·         Pipe sizes suitable 15mm to 10 metres·         Easy Installation, orientation & rugged design with customized sensor material design·         Working temperature upto 400⁰C & 16barg or higher can be achieved·         Better accuracy < ±2%RD of mass flow rate·         Highest turn down ratio 100:1 or better, too sensitive throughout flow ranges.·         No pressure drop saves energy (pressure) loss·         Versatile & Cleanable sensors (auto-purging) design·         Can be used with too low upstream straight length with special installation procedure·         Low cost of ownership against other flow technology  CONCLUSION Cement plant mainly consists of large duct with blowers (FD & ID Fan) where conventional flow measurement is done with Differential pressure sensor as primary elements such as Averaging Pitot tube, Orifice, Aerofoil etc. which are prone to clogg, insensitive to changes in flow velocity, and considerable pressure drop occurs with lower accuracy is now proved to be overall uneconomical to be used against Insertion Thermal Mass flow ( Heat dissipation technique) metering the latest development after long proven track record. Now further development on material compatibility with hot gas having heavy dust concentration and high abrasion are in progress which will satisfy most application demands in cement plants with few limitations of temperature upto 500⁰C. Still above 500⁰C operating temperature conventional technologies still rule the market. Hope this will help cement plant process operators to get benefit by implementing new technology against conventional flow measurement and acknowledge the benefits offered.  AUTHOR Mr.Manish S Patel, A Chartered Mechanical Engineer with more than 24 years rich experience in process industries especially in flow measurement with a wide range of applications.Request to kindly write us your queries related to the flow measurement applications would be happy to assist at our best. For more information contact us.OVERCOMING ABOVE CHALLENGES BY ADVANCE PROVEN CALORIMETRIC (HEAT DISSIPATION) TECHNOLOGY: Nowadays Insertion Thermal Mass (Heat dissipation) Flow meter technology is gaining technical ground for solving above limitations of existing conventional pitot tube or annbar differential pressure-based flow measurement.   INSERTION THERMAL MASS FLOWMETER WORKING PRINCIPLE Thermal mass (calorimetric) flow meters work on the physical principle of thermal dispersion from a heated element to the ambient medium (e.g., air or gases). This is affected by the velocity, density (temperature and pressure) and by the characteristic of the medium. The amount of needed energy is a function of the temperature difference ∆T and the mass flow.Gas flowing through two RTD Pt-100 one reference (Tref) and another Heater (Th). The temperature difference (over temperature) ∆t between the reference sensor (medium temperature) and the heater sensor is controlled constant. As per King’s Law, higher the mass flow rate, higher the cooling effect of the heater sensor, thus higher the power required to maintain the differential temperature constant. Therefore, the heater power is proportional to the gas mass flow rate.Cement Industry is one of the crucial core sectors for the development of construction and infrastructure with currently approx. 4.4 billion Tonnes of cement was produced in the world in the year 2021. The largest cement producer is China with more than 55% capacity and thereafter India accounts for the second largest product with around 7% of capacity.
After the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a sudden rise in demand from rural and urban infrastructural developments across the world and mostly in undeveloped countries. Initiatives such as the Smart City project by India will see a long-term demand for cement products which will see huge technological upgradation of existing cement plants for cost and energy optimization.
The cement industry is one of the most intensive energy consumers in the industrial sectors. Energy consumption represents 40% to 60% of production costs. Additionally, the cement industry contributes around 5% to 8% of all man-made CO2 emissions. Due to increasing demand efficiency and optimization will be the key criteria for today’s cement plant operators which will largely depend on the accurate and repeatable measurement of various process parameters such as Temperature, Pressure, Flow Rate & Level, etc.
In the cement industry generally pressures, temperatures are used for calculating process gas flows in correlation with Fan/Blowers’s speed & power consumption, however, this is an assumption that generates high uncertainties against the actual gas flow rate and energy consumption of prime mover such as Fan/Blowers.
There is an urgent need for optimum control of Air and process gas flow measurement for improving the overall quality of cement, efficiency, and cost optimization for many process requirements as below:
  1. PREHEATER PROCESS EXHAUST GAS FLOW RATE MEASUREMENT
Cyclone Preheaters are used before rotary kilns of cement production plants to heat the raw mix and drive off carbon dioxide and water before it is fed into the kiln. The quality of the preheater in a cement plant directly affects the stability of calcining temperature and cement clinker quality in the kiln. Measuring the exhaust gas flow rate in the down comer can help in fine control of the ID Fan downstream for optimum control of the O2 content of the kiln off gas.
Exhaust gas flow measurement generally is challenging due to the large diameter of the duct, high dust concentration, and high temperatures around 350⁰C-400⁰C. Generally, velocity is measured temporarily by Pitot tube with high uncertainties for cross-checking which doesn’t help in the efficient control of the process.
  2. CLINKER COOLER AIR FAN FLOW RATE MEASUREMENT
The clinker cooler is a key device in the clinker production line which helps in quenching and transports the hot clinkers discharged from the rotary kiln and supplies hot air for the rotary kiln and preheater system. As the first equipment where high-temperature clinker releases heat, it plays an indispensable role in reducing coal and power consumption, increasing secondary and tertiary air temperature, and improving heat recovery rate.
A good clinker cooler can help cement plants reduce energy consumption from two aspects: one is to improve the cooling efficiency and reduce the power consumption of the clinker cooler itself; the other is to reduce the coal consumption of rotary kiln and preheating systems by improving the heat recovery rate. Clinker cooler grate air fan efficient control is vital in achieving cooling efficiency and energy saving with a higher cooling rate concerning feed rate adjustment. Continuous cooling air flow rate measurement plays an important role in optimizing the operation of a clinker cooler.
Measurement of a cooler air fan is a challenging task due to the high concentration of clinker dust with a high abrasion rate where flow sensors need to be robust and immune to high abrasion resistance. Currently, this application has a limited flow solution and less life expectancy about 1-6 months.
  3. AQC BOILER & PHP PROCESS GAS OUTLET FLOW MEASUREMENT
Modern cement plants are equipped with Waste heat recovery (WHR) power plants installed in cement plants, using the heat generated through rotary kiln preheater (PH) and AQC exhaust hot gases for power generation. Waste heat recovery systems (WHRS) wherein hot waste gas heat from rotary kiln preheater & clinker cooler is fed to Preheater (PH) Boiler & After quenching chambers (AQC) boilers to recover heat energy for running boilers for electricity/power generation with the help of steam turbines. Typically, the 20 to 30 percent power requirement of the cement plant can be fulfilled using this waste heat for power generation applications, which is a substantial savings/reduction in the overall cost of production.
Efficient control of PH & AQC Boiler needs an accurate and reliable inlet or outlet gas flow rate which demands a flow measurement device suitable for high temperature and abrasion resistance design.
  4. PRIMARY AIR FAN FLOW MEASUREMENT IN POWER GENERATION BOILERS
Cement Plant is installed with Captive Coal Power Plant for fulfilling additional needs of electricity apart from AQC & PH Waste heat recovery Boilers. Primary airflow into the boiler is important to monitor for maintaining optimum stoichiometric air-to-fuel ratio for achieving efficient combustion efficiency. A reliable and accurate primary air flow measurement is needed which has low-pressure drop and works well at low static pressure and low maintenance.
  5. PROCESS & FLUE GAS FLOW MEASUREMENT IN EXHAUST STACK
Exhaust process flue gas from clinker cooler and boiler needs to be monitored by the pollution control authority for keeping control on emission guidelines is a must. This needs accurate and reliable flow measurement solutions which will help in achieving high thermal efficiency and improve ESP performance & help to regulate harmful pollutants emission controls & provides useful information on optimizing mass balance.
  6. COMPRESSED AIR MEASUREMENT FOR UTILITY CONTROL AND CONSERVATION
Compressed air is used as a utility in cement plants for the efficient operation of pneumatic equipment used in packing plants and other miscellaneous use needs to be monitored as it is invisible energy as for producing 4 scfm compressed air one horsepower (HP) electrical energy is consumed.
AN ACCURATE AIR & GAS FLOW MEASUREMENT IN CEMENT PRODUCTION HELPS IN
·         Reducing Blower (ID/FD Fan) power consumption i.e., energy saving
·         Controlling the accurate and repeatable operation of kiln & improving clinker production quality
·         Improves energy efficiency of Clinker cooler fan & energy conservation
MAJOR CHALLENGES IN EXISTING FLOW MEASUREMENT SOLUTIONS FOR THE ABOVE APPLICATIONS
·         High-pressure drop means energy loss
·         Lower turn-down ratio implies limited operational range and leakage insensitive.
·         Lower accuracy & measurement resolution implies limited efficiency & performance analysis
·         Clogging and high wear factor
·         High cost of installation & needs frequent maintenance.
