idk about everyone else but this was my favorite MHA season to date. and there's a lot of reasons for that, but it's essentially because this felt like izuku's season. especially the villain hunt arc which was just...
izuku and his dad

his seven concerned ghostly parents

his three over powered superhero baby sitters

i was reading through Conspiracy Bros AU and like... Izuku gets OFA and IMMEDIATELY tells Shoto+Dabi about it, so now, as the title of the AU implies, we've got these three feral gremlin children with the Conspiracy mindset and what is at some level the MOST OP QUIRK EVER. of course, all three immediately go into Hunt Mode and scour EVERYWHERE for any and all info on the past holders (because even if AM doesnt directly tell Izuku about them there's GOTTA be others) (1/?)
and so the moment Izuku gets his grubby lil gremlin hands on that hair he's downing it and pulling out The Notebook and reviewing everything he has about OFA's past users. meanwhile, the past users are getting settled into Izuku's body and then, THEN they realize what Izuku is holding and they have Mild Panic until someone (definitely Fourth because clearly the past users can still use their quirks inside OFA and Danger Sense would be going haywire if Izuku was Evil News) (2/?)
and Fourth goes 'wait... guys wait...' and slowly everyone comes to realize that NOT ONLY are they in a Feral Gremlin Child but they are in a Feral Gremlin Child who is going to do his damndest to cause AS MUCH CHAOS AS INHUMANLY POSSIBLE. and. being the kind, benevolent, TWO HUNDRED YEARS OF BOREDOM people they are, they give Izuku Float very quickly, especially once they realize the Bird Family shenanigans. Aizawa panics. Hawks is overjoyed. All Might is concerned. end of brain dump lol (3/3)
~~~
One of my favorite flavors of Izuku&Past Holders is when they all realize that holy shit we're ALL feral in here so fuck yes
How about 5 headcanons for an AU where All Might can't pass on One for All unless all the vestiges agree? They are super-picky and have been preventing him from finding a successor for decades. It gets harder to get a unanimous vote with each new ghost added. Instead of clearing a beach, Izuku must win each vestige's approval to succeed All Might. Thank you!
*finger guns*
On it boss!
Let's make it clear that the choice for the next Successor is only taking so long because the Vestiges now have time. They have time to choose. Before it was so fast. They had to choose fast because the Users dropped dead far too fast. Shinomori, Banjou, and En's decisions were all unamionous agreement so quickly because their current holder was dying and they have to pass down the Light that may defeat AFO. With Nana and Yagi, they had time to choose. And boy oh boy they were using the time with Yagi to fucking choose.
Sir Nighteye here I feel like would be so frustrated over the fact that every single one of the Past Users have to agree. He is trying so hard to find a perfect successor for not only All Might but also the past users. The reason why Mirio was rejected was due to how Third and Second felt like he wouldn’t have the determination to truly push through all the boundaries to do the right thing.
When Yagi chose Izuku as his successor, he had to go and disclose to him that he must not only win the approval of Yagi but all then past users of OFA. You got to rizz them up Izuku. You got to win their approval so that OFA won’t just simply be “Unfortunate. You just swallowed hair.” Izuku still needs to clean up the garbage in the Beach though. Still got to get in shape and rizz Yagi after all.
Do want to say that all users have a different reason why they don’t believe Izuku is the right successor. En I always headcanon to have been the youngest OFA user before Izuku and when he got OFA that messed him up bad mentally. Do not have a kid be the next user that will ruin him. I don’t have everyone’s reasons but I do believe that Second would still have the doubt that Izuku wouldn’t be able to go through with the convictions and may be too soft.
Izuku basically goes through a history lesson and workout with this. He is learning about the world and what the past users went through and trying to empathize with them. Early past OFA user meet is always something I love.
MHA S7 ED Analysis of the Official Music Video Part 2 [Part 1]
[Warning: manga spoilers]
You were always acting funny to hide your pain
This part is so sad! The boy in blue (Izuku's actor) is curled up and scared while all these hands are reaching for him- probably to represent the pressure of being the ninth/final holder and having to be the one face off against shigaraki + afo. It's a little hard to tell, but I played it back and I'm pretty sure there are exactly eight hands reaching toward him.
Tumblr media
I was too dumb to realize it
And then it cuts to the boy in orange picking the green cape from the ground and blinking in confusion before looking back and forth across the field to see where the other boy went 🥺🥺🥺
Tumblr media
I'm the one who made you wear that "strongness"
Y'all... I... I... 🥹🥹🥹
So are we all agreed this is about Katsuki bullying Izuku and his guilt for branding him with the name "Deku", later inspiring Izuku's reckless lack of concern for his own well being in order to prove that he isn't "useless" anymore? Cuz literally what else could this be about. It's so sad, there's a flashback to the boy in orange happily tying the green cape around the other boy's neck. The guilt and angst is on another level. Just... just... 😭😭😭
Tumblr media
Searching for words to make the buds start to bloom
Y'all 🥹🥹🥹
The warmness you have continuously given me
Just... damn. It must be said again, the angst is on another level. The boy in blue runs away from the scary room he was in with the hands attacking him from what is probably a closet (👀👀👀) and goes back to one of their old hangout places to rebuild the dummy villain the boys destroyed earlier when they were playing. The boy in orange walks in and sees him and the stare at each other in surprise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It planted seeds in my heart
Oh, Mr. Kacchan Bakugou, everyone but Izuku already knows!!
What's heartbreaking though, is the boy in blue turns around and lifts his arms up defensively over the dummy. Like he's afraid the boy in orange will destroy it. The boy in orange looks surprised but takes a small step closer without hesitation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those flowers cannot bloom without you
Did I meant the angst hits HARD?!?! Because it's about to hit harder...
No matter what we do, we will never become one
We live each other's lives with different minds
Bakugou thinks that too many misunderstandings and conflicts have happened between them for him and Izuku to ever be close like they were before. He thinks he's hurt him too much in the past and irreparably mangled their relationship.
Nevertheless, my heart is crying with your pain
This reminds me so much of certain events in chapter 403 where a certain someone whose about to unintentionally explode his own heart from a quirk awakening thinks to himself about how the all the pain his body is going through is because he is now walking the same path a certain childhood friend of his had to walk when he was learning how to use OFA
Can I at least be by your side, even if we cannot understand each other
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Hoping that flowers will bloom side by side in the future
Ajejdjjdjdjsjjsjdj I feel like this just perfectly captures all of the "Izuku's" Katsuki says in his last moments (and even after resurrecting) and the yearning and how it's finally revealed he held onto the All Might card they won together even get all this time
My flower buds will never give up on the present
Ok there were just too many flashing scenes in this montage and I couldn't get all of them but here's one
Tumblr media
Then it goes back to the two boys facing off in the shed and a close up of their faces. The boy in orange reaches out to the boy in blue
Tumblr media
And then it cuts back to the band for a second before the video ends.
And now you too, can devolve into madness with me 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
people have been debating whether mirio really was a better successor for ofa has given me an idea for my rewrite. In my universe, izuku is much nore attentive and analytical of his surroundings, and due to facing discrimination for his quirklessness, he has a less rose tinted view of hero society and wont just follow orders like lemillion. An example is when he and lemillion first meet eri and lemillion give eir back to overhaul, a long tongue snatches eri from his grasp and darts away. Lemillion tries to chase after the villain but izuku recognizes it as my oc herpeton and due to them already having worked together in the past izuku trusts his instinct enough to stop lemillion and get both them out of the alley and away from an angry overhaul. Also after izuku discovers who herepton is with nezu and after nezus deal, izuku acts as a benefactor to herpeton and gives him intel on what pros patrol the cities that herpeton is visting for the first time and what their tactics are. This willingness do what is right instead of just following what the commision want is why all might chose him as his successor. Speaking of which, nana shimura and the rest of the ofa holders were also vigilantes, which explains why they most people have never heard of them. What do you think?
Hi @suchusoid 👋
This has been a long and ongoing discourse that's been reignited a few weeks back after the series ended.
Personally, in Canon itself we aren't truly given a concrete reason as to why izuku is better than mirio and why he deserves OFA more than mirio. This gets even more annoying as the series ends with izuku not even claiming the quirk or making it his but simply still viewing it as a gift from his favourite hero.
Tumblr media
I remember @mikeellee asking a similar ask as to why izuku was picked and not mirio and Canon doesn't give us a concrete answer heck it's even worse when you realise how non existent izukus relationship with all might is.
However, I think that you're changes here to izuku are honestly what was needed!! Having izuku carry and cement the idea of no man is created equal and making sure to make that an integral part of his character would allow for izuku to really see the grey morality and messed up system especially since Canon does try and point this out but constantly fails due to the lack of introspection and development izuku has.
Izuku understanding the cruelty of the system yet still trying to save everyone is what makes him different to mirio who has a goal if 1 million people but izuku has an ongoing gaol that in reality would never be achieved and will always be added onto and altered to help produce a fairer society one where people can at least have the same opportunities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Making Izuku much more attentive also makes sense and is crucial since Canon misses that part of his character completely. In Canon we do get some interesting analytical moments from izuku but they are inconsistent and its a shame because with a bit more digging and thinking izuku's character could of became so much more.
Mind you this is the same character that saw Hawk's once and said that it's weird that he is only 6 years older and so much more mature then them.
This is also the kid who ended up copying his classmates move multiple times with his quirk like shooting blackwhip from his mouth to mimic froppy or the use of his legs when it comes to ofa mimicking iida.
Tumblr media
Due to his analytical abilities I feel like midoriya would be able to peice together that herperton is one of his classmates friends.
They would form a partnership of sorts. Izuku wants to help herperton out in hopes of helping achieve a better future and society so he would give him information in return and maybe he would even give him some quirk advice.
A part of me thinks that herperton would get a sense of deja vu especially when he finds out that izuku was quirkless. This would all remind him of his own quirkless mentor and from that they would slowly grow closer to the point where they both trust each other to make the right move if needed. This means that izuku allows for eri to be taken and then herperton and izuku manage to get her into safety.
In the end izuku wants a better society and he has already done many things to show us that he would do what is morally right over following the rules. This is the same izuku who ran and intervened the moment he realised iida was in hosu and trying to kill Stain. This is the same character who tried to take down gentle criminal so the school Festival wouldn't be disturbed. Even if it means getting himself into trouble or being hated izuku midoriya does what is right and that should be his character
Why isn't Izuku dead? A Discussion on OFA + Secondary Quirk Characteristics
This is something I've wondered ever since the reveal that Hikage Shinomori died from old age at 40, because of the strain from having 2 quirks. The obvious explanation is that a human being cannot possess more than one quirk (unless you're All for One), because they will experience "quirk overload", where the mind (think like in the Nomus) and body (think like in Nine) cannot handle the quirk. This is the reason why only a formerly quirkless person can safely wield One for All.
Tumblr media
But there's something missing here.
Izuku is shown to be the only user of One for All to be able to use past user's quirks. All past vestiges had only been able to use their original quirks and the power-stockholding aspect of One for All, even All Might. One For All has also been confirmed to have reached quirk singularity, which only makes the situation more confusing.
There are other people who have been in possession of multiple quirks without becoming Nomus, such as:
All for One
Gigantomachia
Nine
Number 6 (antagonist from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes)
Tomura Shigaraki
Izuku Midoriya
However, Nine, Number 6, and Shigaraki all underwent severe body modification to be able to handle the quirks. Healing quirks, such as Gigantomachia's Endurance, Tomura's Super Regeneration, and Nine's attempt to claim Cell Activation, are also able to undermine the effects of quirk overload. This leaves us with only two "natural" multiple quirks holders:
All for One
Gigantomachia
Nine
Number 6
Tomura Shigaraki
Izuku Midoriya
Izuku's capability to hold multiple quirks can't be attributed to his prior quirklessness, since he now has no less than seven quirks. Born without a quirk or not, that's still being in possession of more than one. By all accounts, Izuku should be braindead, or at the least, aging extremely fast/being in bad health, but he isn't.
Tumblr media
Now, let's have a quick talk about Secondary Quirk Characteristics:
What are they? These are quirk characteristics that are inherited by a person even though they may be unrelated to their own quirk.
Fumikage Tokoyami - bird head that is unrelated to Dark Shadow
Koji Koda - rock-like head that has nothing to do with Anivoice
Mina Ashido - horns, eyes, and skin that are not part of Acid
These are usually traits that belonged to a person's ancestors as part of that ancestor's quirk. Sometimes, these traits will compile with others to form a combined quirk (such as Tsuyu Asui's Frog quirk or Shouto Todoroki's tolerance to fire and ice with his Half-Cold Half-Hot).
Secondary Quirk Characteristics can actually be compared to Darwin's Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. If the trait aids/does not hinder the body's ability to safely use their quirk (and by extension, to survive), then it will be passed on. There is even speculation that the designs of the cast are due to these secondary traits (like the Midoriya's green hair), making them much more colourful than their Pre-Quirk counterparts. This would mean that secondary traits can be inherited by someone regardless of if they are quirkless or not.
How does this relate to Izuku's strange ability to use multiple quirks?
Tumblr media
Because of the theory that he is related to All for One (more specifically, the Dad for One Theory).
His ability for holding many quirks can be logically explained by two things:
He could possess a secret quirk that is a fusion between the All for One quirk and Inko's Attraction of Small Objects quirk. If so, the quirk might not express the same holes as in the palms of All for One and Shigaraki, since Izuku could theoretically "pull" quirks towards himself, or it could be another type of AFO-esque power (can gain quirks though DNA-consumption, can pass on quirks like Yoichi, etc). Whatever it could be, it would have to be something that can provide him with the protection from quirk overload. Even AFO might not know about his quirk, since he wasn't able to detect Yoichi's original Transference quirk. This suggests that All for One can't detect quirks that can actually manipulate the DNA of other quirks (unlike Aizawa's Erasure or Monoma's Copy, which just block/copy their effects), or that he cannot detect quirks that are in held by a family member. I don't really which of those it could be, since canon never really explained why Yoichi's original quirk was noticed.
OR
If he is truly quirkless like the series says, he could have inherited a Secondary Quirk Characteristic that allowed him the capacity to possess multiple quirks, even if he was quirkless on his own, making him the perfect vessel for OFA. Plus, it completes the family trio.
All for One - Takes/Gives Quirks
Yoichi - Passes On Quirks
Izuku - Keeps Quirks
Do you think Banjo is the type of person who hides his problems behind a clown mask?
The guy acts like a bit of comedy relief, but I think he's the kind of person to face his problems head-on. I don't think he uses humor as a coping mechanism. We never see him do that for himself. He's just a loud guy
Look at how he first appears to Midoriya
Tumblr media
He's loud, and it steals Midoriya's attention. But he's calling him out on why he's messing up
Tumblr media
But as a character's debut, the first things he does are:
Call out Midoriya for trying to do things alone, when Yoichi's first message to him was that he wasn't
Tell him that if he can compose himself, things typically work out
Understands Midoriya's side of things, and tells him he knows (like lacking a mouth)
And once he says those two previous things, he exhales, and his eyes show their pupils properly
The parting advice he gives Midoriya is a reiteration of the second point: It's okay to be mad. What's important is controlling your heart.
Blackwhip is a Quirk that responds to the holder's emotions. Like other Quirks, but Blackwhip goes out of control when the user isn't able to get a grip on themselves
Banjo used his Quirk effectively. He'd have to live that advice to pass it on to Midoriya, back when Abilities were starting to become normal, but Japan was still wrecked. And we know that Quirks are influenced by, and influence, the holder's personality.
Banjo would have to be able to be honest with himself, understand his emotions, and has the maturity to say it's okay to be mad. Just control it.
Tumblr media
When he said that for the first time, it actually surprised me. Everyone in fiction or reality says "Don't be mad", but a character on his debut and says it's okay to be that. I never heard anyone say that controlling your emotions and outputting them in a healthy manner is what matters. People just say not to he negative or annoying, because it's inconvenient; but Banjo went past that.
And when he fades, he tells Midoriya he's got this. He reminds him that they're all behind him.
Whenever he speaks, he doesn't make the receiver feel bad, or speak down to them. He understands them, and gives the next step in a familiar, friendly way.
Tumblr media
On his debut, he told Midoriya to control his heart, and to remember he wasn't alone. Here, he tells him he should try understanding their Quirks better.
He's actually got a mature way of seeing things. He's an adult, and being the holder between Shinomori and En, he wouldn't be able to deal with either of them if he wasn't mature about himself. Shinomori probably wouldn't choose someone who can't be honest with himself upfront, after spending almost half his life for OFA. And En is young, prone to panic, and a guy who acts like his problems aren't there or funny wouldn't help that.
I can visualize Banjo sitting at a small fire with Shinomori, having an honest, calm talk about life (until Shinomori says the wrong thing and Banjo yells something about it). But not Banjo trying to push his problems down with a hearty laugh, and Shinomori being okay with that.
When Midoriya used his Quirk for the first time, Banjo did get loud at the start, but he did lecture him in a way that was kinda teacher-mentor-ish.
I actually like the way Banjo talks about his observances. He's got the demeanor of a good teacher, he's clear, and direct. He's light-hearted about serious things, but doesn't diminish them. He just approaches it in a way that you aren't feeling the pressure, and can feel like it's possible.
He seems to have this habit of being loud to get people's attention, and simmers down once he has it. He's never indirect or leaving the addressed to figure out the answer on their own, he gives it outright.
When Midoriya used Blackwhip for the first time, Banjo was all "You got it all wrong!" and then explained things. Since he felt himself fading, he could've been talking louder to compensate himself past the daze he felt. To make sure he was talking, heard, and to keep himself awake
When the first Three made the void silent because Kudo and Bruce didn't want to help, Banjo broke it with what Midoriya should do next
When Shinomori got yoinked, the first thing Banjo did was report it in a panic to Midoriya. This just tells Midoriya he really has to be careful now, because OFA can really be stolen. Even if Banjo just panics and doesn't say that aloud
Every time Banjo is facing some kind of problem, he doesn't let others panic too hard. He's not pressuring about problems, and steps back to let Midoriya figure things out.
When Midoriya was running himself into the ground, Banjo was one of the vestiges that didn't show up to tell him to rest. He already understood how Midoriya saw things, and was doing them his own way
Rather than trying to be a clown, I think Banjo is just a friendly person. He's honest with others and with himself, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to utilize Blackwhip right, or be the holder between a sagey hermit and young, scared adult.
One For All is a parasite
Yoichi's hidden quirk was not to pass on quirks. People might think that because he was related to All For One, but that's not entirely it. Yes, their quirks are similar, in the transference part of it.
MHA has shown that quirks and consciousnesses are tied, proven both in the vestiges of One For All and in the echoes of the people All For One (the villain) stole quirks from, that reside in All For One (the quirk)
But it's not consciousness that are tied to quirks, it's quirks that are tied to a consciousness. When All For One takes a quirk he detaches it from the consciousness of whoever he's stealing it from and adds it to his own. When Yoichi passed on the stockpiling quirk fused with his own quirk, he was not passing One For All from one conscious to another, not entirely. Because One For All stayed tied to his own consciousness even after he passed it to the Second user. This is also how All Might was able to keep using One For all even after he passed it to Izuku - once One For All is tied to your consciousness you can't untie it, and when you die you find your consciousness inside the quirk with the other vestiges.
Only one person can be the 'main holder' of One For All at a time, because while All Might was still able to use the residual power left from it in him, it was not being renewed by the quirk; it was a finite power he had to use wisely.
I entertained the possible what if of if Yoichi had passed his transference quirk on to others before All For One forced the stockpiling quirk on him, but that didn't go far, because it wouldn't have 'stockpiled' the consciousnesses as it was passed down.
It's the stockpiling quirk that transference fused with that made One For All capable of actually stockpiling those consciousnesses. That's why it always remained tied to past users' consciouses, the second someone gains One For All they become a part of the stockpiling side's 'hoard.' Even if the last user is not dead yet One For All keeps the connection there until the last user dies and their consciousness and quirk (if they had one other than OFA) can be added to the collection.
So thanks to All For One, Yoichi's quirk became a symbiotic parasite that can only be willingly passed on from one host to another.
Is me again o/ and you DID ask to be entertained! I have SO MANY thoughts about AfO and his magnificently squirrelly brain!
Cause see? He HAS calmed with age. Become "less cocky little shit who is a nuke" and more "lounging megapredator amused to watch you struggle". So Older!AfO? Wouldn't actually be the one to pick the fight. He'd be too busy thinking "oh that is HILARIOUS. I seriously thought that was intimidating? Ha!"
And it would irritate younger!OfA into doing something stupid out of pride. Whole lot of QUIRK there, imposter. Shame if someone TOOK them! *uno reverse is pulled* wait, no! That's illegal!
Because, so what. You're stronger then me? I'll just take it! Right? Except when he TRIES? Scrambling to lay hands on his opponent? Who seems so AMUSED. As though he is LETTING him. As though it's a JOKE. He's so certain it's hubris. That he's about to make him CHOKE on that arrogance!
Only? The Quirk he takes? Gets ripped right back out of his hands. Worse. He feels HIS collection. Carefully curated. Picked apart. One by one.
Stares up, past the hand around his neck, to that demonicly mirthful face, and feels a STRONGER copy of his own Quirk casually make ruin of his own. Feels his strength leaving him. His flight, his fire, that technopathic Quirk he took ages to locate.
Give them back.
GIVE THEM BACK!
Oh he pretends to be sophisticated. Suave. Civilized. But you think he ever forgot his birth? The STRUGGLE? This bastard is TAKING HIS QUIRKS. He'd writhe and claw like and animal. Bare his teeth and spit the ugliest poison he can think off. Try to buck him off so he can wrap his hand around the bastards throat and SQUEEZE.
And really? What's older!Afo supposed to do at that point? NOT fuck him?
The POWER he'd feel. The superiority. He is BETTER then this weaker him. This weaker him IS him. All arrogance and fury. Which holder are they facing now? He'll take that too. Fight me. Try it! Dig your nails in and curse me, as I destroy you!
And if it was the result of a QUIRK? Kept happening? Like flickering echos? Oh each time, the fight would get delightfully UGLIER and harder. As the younger him got less and less young. An alternate determined to see him dead.
But~ eventually its not gonna be so fun~ when they surpass HIM. When HE is the younger!Afo. What then? Karma >:3c probably
5 headcanons game: DFO AU where Izuku is a Yakuza boss and anonymously makes deals with AFO
Aaaaaaaaaaand we get another AU where Inko is Pops' adopted daughter.
1.A - So, before Pop's bio daughter left, Chisaki was itching to get more power in the organization. He had plans. He had ideas. But Pops, who has been around long enough, laughs in his face when he starts saying he has plans to destroy the top 5 villains in order to ressurect the yakuza. So the plan was to put Pops in a coma, proves that Chisaki was right, then wakes Pops up so he could see it.
1.B - Chisaki gets his quirk stolen exactly two days later.
1.C - This is pandemonium for the yakuza. Their leader is in a coma. Their leader-in-second is quirkless and having a mental breakdown. Every two-bits villain us hunting them down for sport now that they are weakened. Even the boss' daughter just left! And left her daughter behind, claiming that little Eri had killed her dad even though everyone in the neighborhood knows that Eri's dad has been trying to leave the mafia princess for years but was too scared of what the yakuza would do to him if he did.
2.A - Desperate, they go towards the one who left the nest and never look back. Inko is NOT happy to see twenty yakuza invading her tiny apartment. Her husband knows nothing about her past life! (She conveniently forgets the massive tattoos hidden under her cardigans every time she claims that.) She is just a normal housewife! (Please, pay no mind to the metal needles hidden all over the house.) They must leave now before her son comes back from school! (Izuku has been here for the past ten minutes but can't get home because a bunch of yakuza are blocking the way.)
2.B - "HELP US!" the yakuza cry. "NO!" Inko screams back. "Why don't you do [many illegal stuff a middle student should not know]? Hypothetically speaking.
2.C - Long story short, Izuku started helping the yakuza because he is good at it. "I am leading them away from a criminal life!" he claims. "And yes, sometimes, they break people's legs but only when the others started it!"
3 - You have to understand that Izuku's school life is not great, his mom is worried about him because of the whole quirkless thing and he runs away from his problems by 100% investing himself in the yakuza thing. They have an important job in the ecosystem! They might be assholes but they give stability to areas where heroes don't patrol! It has two, in my opinion, consequences: A. Chisaki is working for Izuku and hating every second of it. B. Izuku keeps getting money by blocking some of AFO's activities.
4 - AFO is losing his mind. He knows that the yakuza have a new boss who is devilishly good at their job but he can't find who? He fought this was Pops but the guy is in a coma?(He checked.) Then, he thought becoming quirkless had made Chisaki smarter? (It didn't.) Every time he is close from finding the thorn in his side, they disappear! It's even worse than tracking an OFA holder!
5 - This is an AU where Chisaki slightly gets his head out of his ass. When he sees Eri and realizes the other morons are the only thing between the toddler and a certain death, he more or less adopts her. He doesn't even like the idea of being a dad but someone made a comment about him not being good at it (Izuku, it was Izuku), so now, he must prove them wrong.
+ 1 - AFO almost manage to grab the secret yakuza boss but not only does the little shot bites him before he escapes but he somehow manages to steal a quirk from him.
+ 2 - Izuku now has Overhaul. Chisaki is furious.
+ 3 - Izuku is terrible at using Overhaul. (Great at destroying stuff, not even passably good at putting them back together.) Chisaki must teach him how to use the quirk. He is even more furious.
+ 4 - A blond skeleton passes out in the neighborhood and wakes up in a house full of yakuza. He is promptly adopted, even by the little one? Which he then learns is their boss? He kinda wants to explain this is a misunderstanding but he is invited to the Sunday cook-outs and he can hang out with them and it's kinda nice?
that sensate/time-travel OFA fic I kept talking about! 9.9k of Yoichi POV, duo holders being cute, and complicated dynamics where you're pretty sure OFA is supposed to be a found family but it feels more like a 'well, I guess' family.
Also, just my two cents regarding "OfA kills Quirked Users", it has the same issue as Quirk Doomsday Theory: There is no agency.
If thats how the Quirk works, no one can do anything about it, but also, Izuku was Quirkless, so nothing needs to be done about it. Its empty information that has zero consequences for the characters or the plot, but messes up past plotpoints on accident.
It MIGHT have worked, if this hadn't been a retcon and All Might knew from the beginning and maybe just kept it secret to protect Izukus self esteem (chosen because only he can survive it instead of chosen for pure heroic heart), but even then it would have undermined the core message of "everyone can be a hero" of the entire series.
Which also begs the question, WHY was this retcon introduced in the first place?
To explain the short lifespans of previous holders? Why like this, AfO is right fucking there!
To up the stakes by essentially sayin Izuku can't just pass it to someone else? By that time Izuku was already firmly established as THE protagonist, no one could have replaced him an no one would have bought it, not to mention that Izuku slowly seeing OfA as his own and seeing himseldf as worthy of it is another of the core story-beats that is undermined by this!
Two foreshadow a "AfO steals it and kills himself" type of finale? The dude has been overdosing on Quirks for 2 centuries, just say he overate, no need to make it this complicated!
It's just so confusing.
You're so right about the lack of agency. It's such a dumb twist that adds nothing and removes so much. I hate it. I hate it.
