Synopsis: This work deals with the Arab-Islamic past (Andalusian, Mudejar and Moorish) of Madrid and its forgotten heritage since it is the only European capital whose origins and name are linked to Arabic.

Revisiting that past and making it known is the objective of this work, which wants to rescue knowledge of a relationship between Madrid and the Arabs that does not end in the Middle Ages, since the town and court maintained various links with what was over time. Arab through diplomatic delegations, Arab figures welcomed by the city, valuable collections of manuscripts and numismatics, a romantic architectural taste that seeded the city with unique neo-Islamic buildings or Hispano-Arab scientific and cultural institutions. And, finally, the cosmopolitan and intercultural reconversion of the city has made it the recipient of a new Arab and Muslim immigration that once again gives human visibility to this relationship between Madrid and the Arab.

Synopsis: This work is an extension of previous research on different districts, and seeks, for the city as a whole, to “understand the genesis of medieval urban space, to follow its transformations and successive reappropriations” , mainly with the aim of understanding, for one of the ancient provincial capitals of al-Andalus, the modalities of the transition from the Muslim city of the end of the eleventh century (time of its occupation by the Christians) to the Castilian city of the end of the Middle Ages. The main documentary basis of the work is a very important and very detailed inventory of the real estate of the Cathedral Chapter, an inventory carried out in 1491-1492, which covers a considerable heritage of 557 various buildings located in 64 sites or districts. The identification and location of houses, shops, mesones or fondouks and other urban buildings, often difficult on the current plot, has however resulted in the careful study of more than half of these old buildings. The systematic comparison of the text from the end of the Middle Ages with the remains still visible above ground or underground (and this very meticulous and patient work in the cellars of current Toledan houses is one of the great originalities of the research of Jean Passini) gave the results which are presented in this latest publication.

Synopsis: Saramago wrote that traveling should be a matter of another matter, staying more and walking less; and a little later he added that it is not good to stay for only a quarter of an hour next to a construction that is seven hundred years old. The authors agree with such appropriate phrases, and that is why they have written this route, this uneven guide, this compilation of events, in short, so that the traveler stops in a multitude of towns that only sounded like transit and never like stop and inn. Because the truth is that the city of Toledo and its province discreetly hide a large number of enclaves that deserve to be savored by the five senses, and in which one must rest until the memory is macerated.    Giovanni Battista Piranesi en la Biblioteca Nacional

 Piranesi es uno de los grabadores más célebres y reconocidos de todos los tiempos. Nacido en Venecia, desarrolló su carrera durante el siglo XVIII: sus imágenes de la arquitectura clásica, recreaciones de una Roma a medio camino entre la realidad y la imaginación del arquitecto y grabador, se han convertido en iconos del arte. La Biblioteca Nacional cuenta con uno de los mejores fondos de grabados y estampas realizadas por el artista; con esta exposición, la institución no solo pretende mostrar su obra al público, sino que declara la intención de realizar un estudio razonado de la misma para crear un catálogo de referencia. En la muestra se pueden ver las series que reflejan las pesadillas y el mundo onírico del grabador: Carceri, Opere Varie, Il Campo Marzio dell’Antica Roma y Raccolta di disegni del Guercino. A estas obras les acompañan también grabados de otros autores que ejercieron una decisiva influencia en el trabajo de Piranesi.

   Tetsuya Ishida - Autorretrato de otro

 El artista japonés Tetsuya Ishida llega al Palacio de Velázquez de la mano del Museo Reina Sofía para mostrar sus demoledoras escenas de aislamiento y alienación en la sociedad actual. Su trayectoria abarca tan solo diez años de trabajo, durante los cuales Ishida ha creado una ingente producción de obra plena de imágenes inquietantes y perturbadoras. En sus escenas, el artista provoca metamorfosis en los cuerpos humanos y los fusiona con máquinas, dispositivos, insectos o medios de transporte. Sus personajes se hallan siempre en situaciones que escapan a su control o provocan su resignación: ambientes claustrofóbicos, grupos controlados o espacios constreñidos de los que no pueden escapar. Son “autorretratos de otro”, personajes que le representan a él pero también al resto de la Humanidad. Su imaginería muestra a menudo imágenes de entornos escolares o de trabajo en oficinas, destilando una acerada crítica al sistema educativo y a las relaciones laborales.

 Crear / sin / prisa

 Crear/sin/prisa es el nombre de una plataforma de creación contemporánea, formada por artistas consolidados y artesanos que unen fuerzas para desarrollar sus proyectos. La inclusión de técnicas y procedimientos artesanales añade interés a las propuestas de vanguardia, creando una simbiosis llena de posibilidades. Las obras que se pueden ver en la exposición fueron realizadas con motivo del Premio Cervezas Alhambra de Arte Emergente: un total de diecisiete piezas creadas por artistas españoles y extranjeros, cuya intención es crear un espacio de diálogo que invita al disfrute de los sentidos. El tiempo pausado, la mirada interior y la poesía están presentes en las obras, cuya cuidada realización es fundamental para crear piezas únicas y especiales. Instalaciones, tapices, esculturas y técnicas mixtas se dan cita en el espacio. para mostrar un sorprendente despliegue de creatividad.

   Alberto Giacometti en el Museo del Prado

 Con motivo de su Bicentenario, el Museo del Prado inaugura una exposición con las obras de uno de los artistas más reconocidos y admirados por crítica y público: Alberto Giacometti. Las obras seleccionadas para la muestra llegan por primera vez a la pinacoteca madrileña gracias a un acuerdo del museo con la Fundación Beyeler de Basilea, Suiza, y la colaboración de la Comunidad de Madrid. La comisaria de la exposición, Carmen Giménez, la ha organizado como un “paseo póstumo” de las propias obras por las galerías del Prado. Las estilizadas e inquietantes figuras (un total de dieciocho esculturas y dos pinturas al óleo) parecen transitar por los espacios del museo, admirando las obras que el artista italiano llegó a conocer en la exposición Chefs d’oeuvre du Musée du Prado, celebrada en Ginebra en 1939. Así, las esculturas de Giacometti conviven en esta ocasión con las de grandes maestros clásicos como Velázquez, Tiziano, El Greco o Zurbarán.

 Matt Collishaw - Diálogos

 Esta primavera, el Pabellón Villanueva del Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid acoge una gran exposición del artista británico Matt Collishaw: la primera muestra de su obra organizada en nuestro país. En ella se pueden admirar algunas de las piezas fundamentales del artista, un creador conceptual e innovador que propone una profunda reflexión sobre el ser humano, la naturaleza y las relaciones de dominio que se establecen entre ambos. La selección incluye obras en distintos formatos: pintura, audiovisuales, fotografías e instalaciones creadas durante las últimas dos décadas. Todas ellas reflejan dos temas básicos en la obra de Collishaw: la historia y el desarrollo del arte y la percepción de la naturaleza. La muestra se articula en dos secciones, en las cuales las piezas “dialogan” con ambos conceptos.

   Toulouse-Lautrec y el espíritu de Montmartre

 Toulouse-Lautrec es probablemente uno de los artistas más famosos y populares de todos los tiempos. Sus dibujos y carteles reflejan como ninguna otra imagen la vida del célebre París de la bohemia: los cabarets, los bares, los personajes y la cultura popular. El barrio de Montmartre fue entonces el centro del movimiento artístico de la época, un núcleo bullicioso e hirviente plagado de jóvenes creadores, músicos y artistas que plantaron cara a lo establecido, creando los cimientos de las vanguardias del siglo XX. La muestra que se puede ver esta primavera en CaixaForum Madrid reúne más de 350 piezas creadas por Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec, perfectas para emprender un viaje fascinante por el París de la belle époque. Carteles, bocetos e ilustraciones llenas de vida y movimiento, que más de cien años después de ser realizadas conservan toda su frescura y modernidad.

     Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

  Balthus

 Balthasar Klossowski de Rola, más conocido como Balthus, es uno de los pintores más inclasificables e interesantes del siglo XX. Alejado de las vanguardias abstractas y las corrientes que proponían una revisión de la estética artística, el pintor suizo siempre dejó claro que sus influencias enraizaban en el arte de Poussin, Caravaggio y Piero della Francesca, entre otros. Esta intención de alejarse de la “modernidad” de la época, fundamentando su obra en principios figurativos y coloristas, lo convierte en un pintor único y muy personal, en línea con otros outsiders como Amedeo Modigliani o Gustav Klimt. La exposición reúne un total de cuarenta y siete obra, la mayoría de gran tamaño, entre las cuales figuran obras de referencia como Los Hermanos Blanchard o Thérèse Soñando. También se pueden ver algunos de los perturbadores (y polémicos) retratos de adolescentes que realizó el pintor.

 Eduardo Sarabia - Intrahistorias

 La exposición de Eduardo Sarabia que se puede visitar estos días en la galería Javier Gómez comienza con algo tan sencillo como unas fotografías personales. Hace diez años, el artista imprimió sobre papel una serie de instantáneas de vivencias personales (viajes, reuniones…), que decidió dejar en su estudio y utilizar a modo de soporte pictórico. Así, las fotografías se vieron cubiertas de trazos de pintura, colores, texturas y pinceladas: ráfagas circulares que emborronaban las imágenes, dándoles una nueva identidad. Los pocos resquicios que dejaba la pintura se volvían muy reveladores, dejando ver fragmentos de cabello, trozos de tela, paisajes fragmentados… Así, las imágenes que un día tuvieron identidad propia pasaron a formar parte de una abstracción. Lo que en un comienzo no fueron sino bocetos e ideas trazadas a modo de preparación, se convirtieron con el tiempo en una obra por sí misma, sólida y muy reveladora: Intrahistorias del propio artista y de su trabajo creativo.

  Yo-Tú: Javier pagola en papel

 La obra gráfica del artista guipuzcoano Javier Pagola es la protagonista de la exposición inaugurada por el Museo ABC para esta temporada, una selección de aproximadamente 200 obras recientes que nos transportan al mundo onírico e inquietante del dibujante. La muestra no ha sido organizada a la manera usual, mediante un recorrido cronológico; en su lugar, la exposición de las obras pretende introducir al espectador en la mente del artista, cuya forma de trabajar se aleja de los conceptos clásicos de espacio y tiempo. Las obras, así, se exhiben sobre mesas donde aparecen desordenadas, reflejando la reproducción de los sueños y las pesadillas del creador. La exposición reúne 140 dibujos de distintos temas, 35 rostros de estilo expresionista, 13 libros de artista y un audiovisual en el que el propio Pagola explica el proceso de creación que conduce a estas piezas. Una de las piezas “estrella” de la muestra es la recreación del “estudio imaginario” del dibujante, un espacio en el que él mismo ha trabajado durante un tiempo antes de la apertura de la exposición.

  Leonardo da Vinci - Los rostros del genio

 El Palacio de las Alhajas de Madrid alberga una de las exposiciones más interesantes celebradas en esta temporada. Centrada en la figura de Leonardo da Vinci y con motivo del quinto centenario de la muerte del artista y hombre de ciencia más famoso de la historia, la muestra expone la famosísima Tavola Lucana, una pintura que según los expertos reúne todas las condiciones para ser considerado el verdadero autorretrato del genio italiano. La exposición se celebra de manera conjunta con otra organizada en la Biblioteca Nacional, que gira alrededor de los Códices Madrid I y Madrid II y donde se exponen también reconstrucciones de fascinantes máquinas diseñadas por Leonardo da Vinci. Los visitantes también podrán conocer de cerca uno de los proyectos más ambiciosos del artista: el enorme caballo diseñado para Ludovico Sforza , que nunca pudo ser fundido en bronce.

Una ciudad emblemática que constantemente se expresa, cautivando a los miles de visitantes que disfrutan del arte en plenitud. Exposiciones Madrid propone citas impostergables, para los turistas o residentes que quizá sin saber de arte, reconocen el gran valor de las obras que alberga la capital y los más versados en el tema aprecian, los grandes tesoros que conserva. Synopsis: This work is an extension of previous research on different districts, and seeks, for the city as a whole, to “understand the genesis of medieval urban space, to follow its transformations and successive reappropriations” , mainly with the aim of understanding, for one of the ancient provincial capitals of al-Andalus, the modalities of the transition from the Muslim city of the end of the eleventh century (time of its occupation by the Christians) to the Castilian city of the end of the Middle Ages. The main documentary basis of the work is a very important and very detailed inventory of the real estate of the Cathedral Chapter, an inventory carried out in 1491-1492, which covers a considerable heritage of 557 various buildings located in 64 sites or districts. The identification and location of houses, shops, mesones or fondouks and other urban buildings, often difficult on the current plot, has however resulted in the careful study of more than half of these old buildings. The systematic comparison of the text from the end of the Middle Ages with the remains still visible above ground or underground (and this very meticulous and patient work in the cellars of current Toledan houses is one of the great originalities of the research of Jean Passini) gave the results which are presented in this latest publication.
