Go Toronto! 😍
Folks, we're not asking for every new building in Atlanta to have zero parking for cars. We aren't anti-parking, we're pro-reform.
Nonetheless, we'd love to see *some* new buildings do this, in spots that have great ped/bike/transit infrastructure.

In Midtown, an eight (?) story parking deck towering over the homes nearby.
I'm all for dense infill, new housing, and variation in heights. Towers beside homes is fine by me. This is not a 100% bad development. It has benefits.
But there has *got* to be a better type of growth than towers with tall parking podiums.
I'm not asking for zero parking. What I'd like to see is progressively low ratios, unbundled parking pricing, and sure, underground parking if that's workable.

West Peachtree at 10th Street: a new tower adds a few stories of screened parking over the sidewalk across the street from a parking deck. It looks bleak anywhere, but this is 600ft from Midtown MARTA Station so it's worse.
When people say "MARTA doesn't go anywhere" I think what they really mean is that we've built too many blocks of Nowheresville near MARTA...blocks where pedestrians feel out of place -- like they've accidentally wandered into territory that's meant primarily for driving.
I know that calling on the city to lower parking maximums near train stations is an unpopular thing. I know it makes people very angry. But sometimes it's better to be right for the future instead of popular today.
Car-oriented density isn't the urban growth we need. Drive-to urbanism isn't the best we can do. Let's excel at what cities do best.

Amity is a Dimensional Dump
So! Amity Park is a hub of weirdness of all sorts, mostly undead, but there are also a bunch of Multiversal oddities connected to the small town.
There are the minor anomalies. 5th Street has a bad habit of slipping into the Backrooms, Old Lady Jenkin's House sometimes has snow in summer, and of course the Night Sky had a 20% chance of swapping views to another Galaxy. Danny likes that one a lot.
But the biggest Anomaly is how many Multiversal Travellers get lost there.
They are always finding somebody wandering the streets with no idea where they are, and have to help them find their reality of origin. Other times they decide to stay for various reasons, ranging from a bad home life to being the only survivors of a Dead Universe. Half of the population if Amity was made up of the descendants of Lost Travelers, so their DNA was really a mixed bag.
Danny was flying over town when he spotted a Blur on the ground below.
He flew down to intercept, and found a boy in red and yellow panicking over his situation.
"Hey! Can I help you?" He called out.
The boy looked up, and gasped "Are you a Hero? I need help getting back to the Justice League!"
Danny chuckled, "Which one?"
The boy looked confused, "The Adult One? I guess?"
"Not what I meant, sorry. I mean, which Dimension are you from?" He clarified.
"Dimensions? What is going on!?" He shouted.
"Okay, let's calm down and restart. My name is Danny, who are you?" He introduced himself.
The boy took a deep breath, calming himself, before saying, "Okay, my name is Kid Flash, but you can just call me Wally."

Detroit Parking Map 2023
Visually, Detroit’s central business district (CBD) looks to be all parking. The Parking Reform Network (PRN) found that 30% of the CBD is devoted to parking. The absurdity of a car-centric city has harmed Detroiters far more often than supported the growth and vitality of the city.

Mob Song But For DPx DC
okay so like, i was listening to the Mob Song from Beauty and the Beast (the metal cover by jonathan young) and like
I had some Thoughts
The people of Amity Park, marching across the US, absolutely fuckin livid and done with everything the GIW has ever put them through, from disturbing the peace to attempted genocide, and now they have no amity left, nothing but the people, hurt and dirty and pissed, because goddamn it, that was their home, and now the teenagers and the fentons are leading the charge, because the kids went through puberty in an ectoplasmic marinade, and while ALL of amity are liminal to some degree, the kids and young adults all have it the most, theyre the one's with uncanny perception and strength, talking to plants and tech and being far to flexible or durable, and the whole fenton family is very much liminal, it just too too long for the Drs to realize, but they did, and they listened, and its no excuse for everything that happened, so they're giving it their all, every ounce of energy is going into the facts, the real ones
People have signs, and megaphones, shouting that 'they are people too' and 'they deserve better' 'it's been years, metas have their rights, why dont we?', there are signs, calling for action, pleading for help, sharing stories, listing out the sins of the GIW and the US government, whether it was intentionally malicous or negligent and ignorant of something that 'wasnt real'
It's like everything developed overnight, the figurative internet black hole where amity was gone, the GIW firewalls torn apart, the town that was just another nothing name on a map is here and present and so so pissed
The heros of the world wake up, turn on their news, and see absolute chaos, because its a whole fucking town that essentially didnt exist for years, and now it does and it is loud about its presence, tired of being smothered to nonexistence, and it's their mission to tear the GIW apart, in any way they can

Thinking about Tom Bertram's sick room and how we only see it in Fanny's imagination (painting from what Edmund's letters tell her) and I'm just. I don't see Tom's illness being the bonding time it can sometimes be taken as.

People calling Fanny Price weak and passive as if every other Austen protagonist (yep, even Lizzie, maybe even especially Lizzie) wouldn’t have crumpled under the pressure in her circumstances is absolutely hilarious

Tories wiped out in Wales
Tumblr media
Jacob Rees-Mogg lost his seat
Tumblr media
Nigel Farage got a seat (and Donald Trump congratulated him on it as though he’d won the election)
Tumblr media
Jeremy Corbyn kept his seat
Tumblr media
Liz Truss lost her seat
Tumblr media
13 ministers lost their seats
Tumblr media
The Lib Dems got 71 seats
Tumblr media
Sinn Fein got more seats than ever
Tumblr media
And we have a new PM with, as of now, 412 seats in less votes than Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour got in 2019 (people just liked Boris, and now they really hate the Tories)

Hopefully Atlanta can be as progressive as Birmingham, Alabama is some day!
Congratulations to Birmingham for eliminating all parking minimums city-wide. 🙌
This is the kind of progress that cities do best. Unfortunately we've still got one foot stuck in the suburban mindset.

These novels are taking up similar space in my brain:
Tumblr media
A Long Fatal Love Chase by Louisa May Allcot
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë
Image description below:
Venn diagram, three circles, one for each novel. Short forms for novels mentioned above are ALFLC, MP, and TTofWH
In the centre with full overlap: The rake never reforms, root of the fundamental flaw is boredom
ALFLC & MP: Man has something wrong with his looks, the ocean
ALFLC & TTofWH: unwilling to let her leave him, she thinks love can change him
MP & TTofWH: final straw is an affair
Just ALFLC: fake marriage proposal
Just MP: refuses to marry him based on his morals
Just TTofWH: Has a child with the rake

Citywide parking reform enables reuse of vacant buildings
Tumblr media
On the edge of downtown Fayetteville, Arkansas, a building that had stood vacant for nearly 40 years now houses a local restaurant with a rooftop patio. Down the road, a formerly abandoned gas station is back in use as retail space. The reuse of these once-forgotten properties was made possible several years ago, when Fayetteville’s city council voted to remove commercial parking requirements citywide.
