Week 1- Introduction to Media Studies

Hello my name is Parinaz Kapoor, I am a student at CP Goenka International School Oshiwara Mumbai.

In this blog, I'd like to talk about how enthralling and illuminating media is as a subject. I've always been very curious about what happens behind the exceptional scenes in a beautifully produced movie and media as a subject helps me understand the finer aspects of media. It brings out the creative side of me that excessively lives in me untouched. I'm so glad that I can bring out my inner creativity in this subject and embrace it.

Our class started with the introduction to media studies, the riveting forms of media like film, radios, podcasts, music, articles, etc. I can't wait to be introduced to more fascinating topics.

This year, we have a project on our foundation profile where my classmates and I would be divided into groups to create our own 2 minute opening of a film.

SIDE PROJECT

WEEK 22

While I rest at home, i would like to present a small short film that i was part of. As a part of the exercise set to us by our teacher, every student had to make groups and within roughly 30 minutes plan and film and then in an additional 15 minutes edit and present a short film. I got together with two of the same people who I am collaborating with right now and got in Parinaz and Paarth.

In the small time period we had to plan, we thought of a short film where it starts off with a bully apologising to a girl he previously picked on, while she talks about how its too late. It is then revealed that the girl being present there was simply a figment of the boy's imagination. The bully proceeds to read a diary entry which was written by the same girl, he recounts his last meeting with the girl where he bullied her and is forced to blame himself for her suicide. The short film ends with him in the office with the senior person of the school reading the diary entry while the bully guiltily sits there.

My group member Paarth as always showed his remarkable skill behind the camera while Parinaz performed admirably onscreen.

The editing was a combined effort shared between me and Paarth. We also included our school coordinator Satish Sir for a cameo in our short film

week 17- working as an art director

The journey begins with a blank canvas and a spark of inspiration. Collaborating closely with the director, we delve into the heart of the story, seeking to capture its essence in a single frame. From mood boards to concept sketches, every idea is explored and refined until we find the perfect visual expression of the film's themes and motifs.

With the concept in place, it's time to bring the vision to life. From scenic design to prop selection, every detail is carefully curated to evoke the desired atmosphere and evoke emotion in the audience.

The magic of filmmaking lies in the collaboration between artists, each contributing their unique talents to the project. As an art director, I had the privilege of working alongside a team of talented individuals,like Parinaz Kapoor the director script writer and production designer and Paarth Singodia the cinematographer , each bringing their own expertise and creativity to the table. Together, we pooled our talents to create a visual masterpiece that exceeded our wildest dreams.

Week 29

Editing, day 1:

As the editor, I had a very clear idea of how I wanted the movie to look like, and my aim matched the director's (Parinaz Kapoor) aim as well. The first task I undertook as the editor, was finding background music that would fit in with the theme of the opening. After an hour of going through various pieces of melancholic classical music, we decided to use Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, Opus 11.

After cementing the background music, I sat with the director and the assistant editor and recompiled all the shots we were planning on using into one folder, making it easier for us to edit later on.

We added everything into the timeline on Premiere Pro, and started with changing the aspect to 4:3. We sorted all the clips into their chronological sequence and saved our project. With this, we stopped editing for the day.

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY

WEEK 15

When we didn't find anyone to play the mom in our film opening, the group got stressed and we needed to quickly think of a solution.

In that moment our group member Parinaz Kapoor decided to take responsibility and play the role of the mother.

Despite the fact that the casting did not exactly go the way we planned, we had our cast nevertheless.

With another important task checked out, we were fast approaching our big day
