I was watching DDEUNDDEUN and I was in shock when I realized that Jimin was such a shy person with people and in places he is not used to. And even more shock that Yoon is such a talkative person and seems not to be intimidated in new places. Consuming only the boys' content is not this perception that they gave me, I would never imagine that they would be this way away from the other members. And the biggest shock was really realizing that yoonmin seem to be close to each other, since I always saw them as the duo Tom and Jerry and nothing else. Who would have thought… Did watching this show change your perception of the two of them in any way?

Anon, this is such a good question!

I agree that there are certain misconceptions about the guys based not only on content but on the fandom itself repeating these tropes over and over again while ignoring other information. Yes, Yoongi and Jimin sometimes have a Tom and Jerry dynamic, but there are also so many examples of them being kind, caring, supportive, and protective of each other.

In terms of Ddeun Ddeun and whether my perception changed, the answer is yes and no.

No because:

The show reinforced some things that I already believed. For instance, I already believed they were very close. Prior to Ddeun Ddeun I thought it was significant that Jimin was so concerned about Yoongi when he had his shoulder surgery (being the first to call him after the surgery, watching him do his shoulder rehab, calling him on the phone from award shows and lives so that he wouldn’t be left out, etc.) To me, these aren’t things people do unless they are very close. Another example was when they mentioned during the show that they’d get dinner together (just the two of them) afterwards. Again, this was not a surprise. They’ve mentioned hanging out together outside of work many times over the years. (For instance, going out for sushi in 2015, going out for fried chicken in 2015, Jimin seeing Yoongi playing with his parents’ dog Holly in 2016, staying up all night talking in 2016, becoming “drinking buddies” prior to Festa 2017, etc, etc.) My point is, there were some things that happened during the show that weren’t new; they were a continuation of patterns we’d seen for a long time.

On the other hand…

Yes because:

Jimin was so shy and it was clear that Yoongi wanted to comfort him. He spoke up when Jimin was quiet or hesitant, corrected one of the hosts when he misidentified the type of dance Jimin had studied, rubbed Jimin’s back in a reassuring way, etc. I think Yoongi has always been protective of Jimin, but the difference here was that it was so open and honest. Their body language was certainly noteworthy! Lots of patting each other on the hand or leg, hands on shoulders, leaning into one another, etc. While we have many affectionate moments scattered over the years, this was the most we’d ever seen in a single piece of content. And that surprised me. In fact, I thought their dynamic was so open and affectionate that I’d rank the show as the single most important piece of yoonmin content that we have.

This moment also said a lot:

This wasn’t a typical friendly “Love ya!” This seemed like something really sweet and was prompted by the hosts noticing how comfortable Jimin seemed with Yoongi. So, that was a big deal to me too.

Long story, short (too late!), I think how we perceive Ddeun Ddeun is partly dependent on how long we’ve been in the fandom and how invested we’d been in yoonmin prior to the show. They are a very subtle pair, so I think sometimes their special dynamic flies under the radar.

I got on reddit a couple of months ago and I discovered that while many people are neutral about bts or even dislike them, most of them are really polite and nice about it, and most discourse about bts is in a positive or neutral light. It's not like twitter where they call them flops in every 2 tweets. So it's similar to tumblr because people can have normal conversations (most of the time) about kpop groups there. Of course there are trolls and straight up haters there too but they either get downvoted very hard or deleted so it's I think better. Anyway my point is that I go on reddit today to see what people are talking about because I only check reddit like 2-3 times a week. And the first post is literally someone asking why bighit is pushing jikook out of all the ships.. And I just sat here blinking at the screen because... Really? We are having this conversation AGAIN? It wasn't even in the bangtan channel/sub, it was in a kpop sub where you can talk about any group. But then I read the whole post and it was very clear OP was one of those people who don't watch official content and just lives off of clips that are posted in the first 24 hours. There are not a lot of comments right now but all of them are very normal and lowkey calling out OP for being stupid so I upvoted all of them 😂

But like every fucking time a DVD comes out and we have footage from multiple days or even months and we see jikook hanging out and do their thing, EVERY DAMN TIME we have this same ass conversation. Every time it's fanservice every time it's "why are they together" every time it's "why is bh pushing them" MF IT'S BEEN YEARS OF THIS. Don't these people think that if you see them, CONSISTENTLY hang out with each other EVERY YEAR, don't you think that maybe... Just maybe they like hanging out and being in each others company???

Even if you take shipping completely out of the picture. Like don't you think its fucking weird to see two people who have known each other for 11 years, went through some insane shit together and even more that WE as FANS probably don't even know about, they clearly support and love each other and like hanging out with each other... And then you go on social media and tweet: "why do people, who are friends, spend time together?" DO YOU EVEN HEAR YOURSELF. I need someone to go up to these people when they are out with their friends and ask them if they secretly hate each other and only hang out just to please their parents or something.

You don't need to ship jikook to see they like each other. You don't need to ship taekook to see they like each other. You don't need to ship anyone in bangtan to see that they love each other to the moon and back. These men are in each others asses 24/7 but sure, the company is pushing them to do fanservice because they don't make enough money or something. Whether you (not you specifically) think jikook or taekook or yoonmin or anyone is dating or not, that's your business. If you ship them, you ship them, if you don't, you don't. But you literally cannot fucking walk up to me, look me in the eye and tell me they don't like each other. These boys are first and foremost FRIENDS And if you see any of them together, it's because THEY WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH EACH OTHER.

I don't know why it's so hard for some people to understand this. Maybe because fanservice is a normal? thing in Korea and I'm sure many groups are doing it. But I checked OPs post and comment history and they follow bts for a while now so they have to know that the tannies have moved past/moved away from doing typical kpop things loooooong ago. They are not your typical kpop group. Two members hanging out with each other in front of or behind camera is not fanservice. Can we fucking wrap this conversation up already, I'm so bored of seeing this being brought up every year. Sorry for the long essay 😔

See ik they've been friends for years and definitely knows each other than we'll ever know them. BUT TOXIC IS TOXIC no matter if it's our close friends, siblings, partner or even parents. There are some parents who takes care of their kids in everyway but pass these comments which puts them down infront of cousins or school. Making snarky comments regarding everything Jimin does is definitely not a good behavior. This is not the first and definitely not the last time he'll do this. BTS - You Never Walk Alone

happy new year and welcome to the first of all firsts! my middle school best friend introduced me to bts and that spiraled into getting hooked on kpop overall. but before branching out to explore other groups, i was invested in following bts, and this album is where it all began.

in future posts when discussing repackage albums, i will only cover new songs, but since this is my first one, i'll make it special and discuss every song on it.

I didn't make a spotify account until after I got a smartphone for christmas in 2018, so honestly i have no idea how i listened to these albums back then,, i remember making a playlist of those color coded lyric videos that i would listen to on my ipad mini, so maybe i was just being hopeful there was one of those for every song on the album and that i was listening to them in order.

anyway lets get on with my thoughts on each song from the album! there will probably be a lot of anecdotes about times i listened to them well after the release, which is a nice thing im able to do by posting this way :)

Intro: Boy Meets Evil i don't remember what solidified hobi as my bias, but i wouldn't be surprised if this song was part of the reason. great intro to the album and he slays the dance so much!!

Blood Sweat & Tears ough such a good song omg!! theres something so special and intriguing to me about mvs themed around art, just feels so elite and fancy,, i hope they do something like this again when they're back from hiatus <3 i remember yoonmin stans going crazy over that one scene in the video lmao, glad the insane shipping phenomenon has kinda died down tho (or i just became oblivious to it lol). ngl the ending where jins face started cracking freaked me out a little back in the day. but fr that bridge is transcendant omg

And again, pjms never sent dts to jjks or tkks when they harassed Jimin dad, but they sent dts to PJMS to defend V. And did you read that pjm that said that jjks are good people because jjks didn't drag V? These are the new pjms. They say we should ignore Jimin hate but they can't ignore if other pjms drag V.

Everyone's been calling pjms closeted jikookers for the past decade and now after ONE day and one dead dog, suddenly we're closeted vminners or Taehyung lovers. When have they ever been sensitive towards Taehyung? Did you miss all these years they've been saying his parents abandoned him in a farm and not even his siblings like him?

It's just not logical to summarize years of pjm fandom the way you're doing it. All of this will be forgotten next week, and a different thing will happen where pjms won't collectively act the way you expect them and you'll be calling them yoonminers or labeling them as something else.

After having quite objectively a week from hell, here is a list of things that I really like from this week to make the things I really don't like go away for a bit

- my Lan zhan playlist is the exact perfect length from my apartment to my parents house

- my parent's house is on a golf course and the backyard is very pretty and it is my little vacation spot

- the apple streusel muffin mix from the cider mill

- that I am capable of finishing a book

- that you can get takeout blooming onions from outback

- my 1200 day duolingo streak

- the big bang theory

- sometimes I do actually think I'm pretty

- my work laptop trackpad breaking enough for them to send me a new laptop for work, but not enough that I can't use it at all, and the IT guy telling me I can keep it, so now I can replace my 7 year old laptop with something objectively better for free as long as I get used to tap to click

- my friends choosing to make me better over making me feel better. Which is better. I guess.

YES! BPP! YES! I KNEW YOU'D SHARE MY EXCITEMENT!!!! I don't know anyone in real life who is an army and shares my love for BTS' music and story, so it's so awesome to see a fellow enthusiast gush over such a stellar magnificent artist!!! Yoongi looks so in the zone on the stage. Like he can finally breathe again, like he has found himself again, like he is finding the meaning of his life over and over again. He looks so at home. It's mind boggling how at ease he is in front of 15k(?) ppl?? +

Ask 2: His command of the stage, much less the audience and his music, is impeccable. "Electric" is definitely the word for it. I mean how does he look more relaxed here than his variety/advertisement gigs!? The word natural comes to my mind but I know that's not quite it. It's like how gravity works, like how water flows. He just is. With his music. And I'm just in awe watching him, and thankful. Every time I look at them perform their music, my worry kinda vanishes and it's unbelievably addicting. +

Ask 4: BPP, pretty pretty please can you try to describe Yoongi's music? What does he sound like to you?

Yoongi's music sounds like nothing I've heard anywhere else. Nobody, past or present, sounds like Yoongi.

But if I were to make a rough approximation, I'd say his sound is something close to if Hans Zimmer, Jimi Hendrix, Pop Smoke, and Andre 3000 had a four-way, with Eminem directing and filming the whole affair. The product of whatever that is, is kinda close to Yoongi's core soundscape. In my opinion. Yoongi too, more than any other member, loves infusing Korean texture, sounds, and proverbs, into his music and it’s something I really can’t get enough of. In terms of lyrical focus, he's similar to Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, and Tablo. Also, from the way Yoongi makes music, you can tell that he plays musical instruments. Yoongi's songs are some of the most fun to play on guitar or keyboard/piano. If any of my followers play guitar, I'd like y'all to actually let me know if you've tried playing Amygdala, and tell me how you felt playing it. (You can DM me if you like.) The music Yoongi makes is angst, it's unapologetically emo, and I'm an emo girl who refuses to outgrow this phase. He makes music for people like me. People who want to scream "burn it!" on the disgusting beat he crafted from scratch. Yoongi makes music for carpenters, sluts, philosophers, queers, parents, rebels, misfits, for anybody who finds themselves caring too much about the world around them, and those who sometimes struggle to know themselves.

I'm just going to stop here because I can't do this. Writing about him is hard.

Anon in ask 3, Yoonmin’s live was the cutest, sweetest, most wholesome and queer interaction I’d seen from the tannies in a good while. I love what they have. Jikook is jikook, but I mean, I actually bias Yoongi. Seeing how he is with Jimin, how he’s always been with Jimin, is impossible for me to ignore. It’s one reason I started paying attention to Jimin in the first place. Anyway, everything about their conversation - the way Yoongi introduced him, the Tony Montana sneak, their mutual barking, the smiles, jokes and stares, the cutting sarcasm and bickering rallies - I’d missed seeing that and I’m glad they shared that moment with us.

I’m really hoping Yoongi is able to keep his health up the whole tour. He goes all out 100% every time he’s on stage, and that would put a strain on even the most fit person alive. His shoulder surgery was ~3 years ago yeah, but he likely still does physical therapy, and excessive use during the tour could strain it again. My hope is for him to be healthy the whole time. And ARMYs who always show up for BTS, being there to be the energy he needs. He deserves all the support he gets.

I could NOT get over Jimin's face throughout that Suchwita episode and his reactions to yoongi's flirting with Taemin, like when yoongi compares taemin to a rooster (?) or invites himself over to Taemin's house lol Jimin has this smirk like "something very LGBT is happening here, and I'm not giving up my friend to my sworn enemy without a fight" The entire episode was absolutely iconic and queer af and I need five more hours of it, I wanna see how this plays out

Jimin sorta had a look on his face like when kids realize parents do more than kiss. 🤭 And the fight instinct took over. I need round 2 of YoonMin head-to-head for Taemin, frying pans allowed.

so i am very much a yoonmin shipper and although i appreciate jimin's dynamic with all the tannies (especially tae), i was wondering if you could explain why yoonmin hits™️ for you and jikook (which i think is the other big jimin ship besides vmin and yoonmin) doesn't? (No offense to jikook). I know for me it's definitely partly that i feel jk is very much that loving to all the tannies while in yoongi's case he's a lot more reserved in general so i feel like his gestures speak a lot about his feelings. I was trying to explain this to my jikook irl friend but she didn't share my opinion hahaha (which is fine as long as nobody sends any hate).

Just wanted to get your two cents on it! 💜

Hi anon! This is a great question. I could talk forever about why I think ym is special, but I’ll try to keep it short(ish).

To me, yoonmin stands out for a couple reasons:

1. the amount of time they spend together outside of work and the ways in which they spend time together. Yes, yoonmin go to dinner together and work out together, and these could just be friendly things. But then there are other times that seem to go beyond typical friendship: Jimin going to Yoongi’s parents’ house in Daegu, Jimin seeing Yoongi doing his shoulder rehab, Yoongi making a point of seeing Jimin at the music show (even saying that “of course” he would be there because he “should” be there), Jimin knowing what Yoongi’s temperature was on the night of the JITB party, Jimin sending flowers to Yoongi’s parents in addition to the flowers sent by the group. All of those things are significant to me. (You can go to my pinned post for more “free time” examples and for a post about health-related matters.)

2. Their own words: Yoongi likes Jimin’s voice best, Yoongi would bring Jimin to a deserted island, Jimin told Jimmy Fallon that Hobi and Yoongi are the members he sees most often, Jimin said he talked a lot with Yoongi about friendships/relationships while working on Face Off, etc, etc.

3. Their interactions: this is subjective, but both Yoongi and Jimin seem to want to be near each other and yet they are very careful. So often their interactions feel a bit hesitant or awkward. Why would that be? I think it’s because they can’t interact freely, given their situation. Add to that Yoongi often reaching out for Jimin, seemingly out of habit, and their dynamic just feels unique to me.

As for the other ship…I’m always hesitant to compare ships because I think all of the members are close. If someone ships j/kk or v/min or nam/gi, I think that’s great! I hope their pair brings them joy! I’m not here to argue with anyone or change anyone’s mind. That said: to me, the bottom line is that Jimin’s interactions with Jk remind me very much of his interactions with both Tae and Hobi. We need to look for the outlier, not the norm. Remember: Jimin kissed Hobi on the neck twice during Hobi’s birthday live! He’s an affectionate guy when there aren’t any reasons to be careful. I think with Yoongi, there is a reason to be careful.

Just my opinion!

And please don’t worry about trying to convince your friend about yoonmin. 😉 Aren’t we lucky that we get to see and appreciate their bond?!
