One of the actually great things about getting older, is that new music is coming out all the time, and you sometimes find out you like entire genres of music you didn’t know about or hadn’t listened to
But also!
Sometimes you’ll suddenly get in the mood for something you loved when you were younger, and it’ll be both familiar and somehow a new source of Happy and you’ll listen to it for multiple days on end just like, yessssss so nice to hang out with you, old friend
This post brought to you by listening on repeat to OK Computer by Radiohead and a couple of NIN albums, all of which came out when I was in high school in the mid/late 1990’s

Hi, fellow Radiohead enjoyer! If it's not too late for an album ask, then I'm sending you 'In Rainbows', 'Ok Computer' and 'Hail to the Thief'. Btw, feel free to ask me about Radiohead too if you want, I love them so much!
Hey there! No, it’s not too late to ask, so thanks for doing so! I LOVE rambling about music and whatnot, so thanks for the excuse!
IN RAINBOWS
Fave song: alrighty, so In Rainbows is my favorite Radiohead album so picking a favorite is a bit difficult. I’d probably have to go with either Bodysnatchers or Jigsaw Falling Into Place, it tends to fluctuate between the two.
Favorite lyric: I’d probably have to give it to “I’m alive” in Bodysnatchers, which is boring when I write it down, but the way he screams it is just *mwah* chefs kiss. The line in Weird Fishes “why should I stay, no why should I stay” is also delivered really well
Song that makes me cry: Videotapes and Nude. I don’t feel like I have to elaborate on that.
Song that’s a bop: also Bodysnatchers, but 15 Step in particular also makes me do a little boogie.
Song I like the least: probably House of Cards? Idk, there’s not too much there to talk about, but it’s still a sweet song.
OK COMPUTER
Favorite Song: Paranoid Android, not even a question. Maybe it’s the sound, maybe it’s how it describes a chaotic mind that won’t shut up that I relate to a lot, or maybe it’s my deep love for Ergo Proxy. Either way, it’s a 10,
Favorite Lyric: easily “everywhere you turn, I’ll be there, open up your skull, I’ll be there, climbing up the walls,” from Climbing Up The Walls. God, it’s such an accurate way of describing anxiety - your whole brain feels like a haunted house, and there’s something inside. Honorable mention goes to “hey man, slow down!” From The Tourist, the delivery is amazing.
Song that makes me cry: Take a fucking guess, it’s No Surprises. Genuinely one of the most heartbreaking songs I’ve ever heard. If I’m ever super emotional and need a good cry, that’s the song I turn on, specifically the acoustic cover.
Song that’s a bop: tbh I wouldn’t really describe any songs from OK Computer as a bop? I guess the closest we have is Electroneering (super underrated btw)
least favorite: ok, this is gonna get me crucified by some people, but I’ve never been the biggest fan of Karma Police. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song, but it just kinda feels a lot more drab and boring then everything else on the album. I’ve always just kinda found it a lesser version of Paranoid Android.
Unfortunately, The King Of Limbs is the album I have not listened to the whole way through yet. So far, the songs I’ve heard out of order have been alright, but I’ll have to see how I feel about it as a whole when I finally sit down and listen to it.
anyhow, thanks for asking!
#Sophi rambles#radiohead#ok computer#in rainbows#the king of limbs#yeah in general I’m a huge music nerd so feel free to ask me about artists and all that#my tastes are all over the place tho lmao#one week I kept bouncing back and forth between Kendrick Lamar and Snail’s House#which was fun

Alright so. Just listened to all of Radiohead’s discography. From Pablo Honey to A Moon Shaped Pool. And now I am going to talk about them in a worst to best sort of thing since they are still fresh in my mind. So yeah. Here is a Radiohead worst to best. Enjoy.
#9 The King of Limbs
Ok. I know this may sound hyperbolic, and I know there are 100% worse sounding records than this, but...HOLY SHIT! This is the worst record I have ever heard. It’s both boring and way too messy. The fact the only good song on this is a piano piece is stupid. It’s nothing but shitty experimental “rock” music that sounds so choppy and unfinished. This 30 minute album was a chore to get through. This is just a huge massive pile of shit produced by a really good band. It sort of offends me to the core.
#8 Kid A
Ok, sorry for that whole rant about how shit King of Limbs was. Anyways, Kid A. A lot of fans love this album, and I can’t see why. Too me this feels like a more, finished and less shitty King of Limbs. I say the songs like National Anthem and Optimistic makes this album not as bad but not much better than King of Limbs. Though I do say, if it wasn’t for it’s existence, Radiohead probably wouldn’t have gone this fair in their career, so I respect it for that, but I don’t respect it for being a sort of bad album.
#7 Pablo Honey
Alright now after we gone through the bad album, now time for the good. Pablo Honey, the debut album of Radiohead. This is a great grunge rock album. Songs like You, Creep, Ripcord, and I Can’t are classic songs that deserve to be played a ton. However...it’s just your basic grunge album, that’s it. Nothing fancy, no experimentation, no experimental rock music, just your standard grunge album, and that kinda makes this album boring. It’s great but...it’s also basic as all hell. I get why this album is hated, but I also see why it’s love. It’s great, but boring.
#6 OK Computer
Alright, alright. Before you slaughter me with your pitchforks, lemme say this. I think this album is one of their best works, but, I don’t think it’s their all time best. A lot of the songs here are amazing tracks, like Karma Police, Let Down, Climbing up the Walls, Paranoid Android, The Tourist. All really amazing songs, but something about it just doesn’t tickle my funny bone all that much, doesn’t make me want to revisit it over and over and over again unlike their other albums. What I am saying is, while it’s great, I wouldn’t say I will get it on vinyl in a heartbeat.
#5 The Bends
The Bends, aka their grunge era when it was at their peak. Which the more I think about it, the more I realize how sad and short lived their grunge era was, with really only two maybe three albums (I know they are still considered grunge but to me they are less grunge and more experimental). Originally this was my all time favorite, originally being number one, it’s just was that good. Though after listening to more albums, I say this while it’s still amazing with tracks like Planet Telex, Fake Plastic Trees, Nice Dream, Just, and Sulk, I do admit this is very inferior to the bands other works, especially the ones later on.
#4 Amnesiac
Amnesiac, oh how I love you. The band decided to take the good things from Kid A and multiplied them by 10. Sure it can get a tad sloppy and a bit too experimental sometimes, but overall this experience I had with this album was just like a French kiss. Most of the tracks here are superb in what they pull being the most experimental the band has gotten but in a good and fun way. I think this is when they were the most mature when it came to creating great music that was both grunge like and experimental. But while this may be when they were great, there are albums that showcase when the band was greater than they were themselves as people.
#3 Hail to the Thief
So, if you made an amazing album, what’s next? Well than make an even more amazing album. Hail to the Thief is what I call there magnum opus. Not there best work but there most important work. This is because you can feel and hear them perfecting their sound, their experimentation, their whole energy in this album. It’s like the sound of the crust of a good bread. Smooth, beautiful, yet seriously weird to listen to. That’s Radiohead, this is what Radiohead is all about. Weird yet beautiful listening experiences that just screams to you softly. Hail to the Thief is a clear cut articulated painting the band made for us to listen. Beautiful, and weird.
#2 In Rainbows
While Hail to the Thief was Radiohead’s magnum opus, In Rainbows is just as important as their previous work. It’s a lot more consistent and easier to listen to if you just want a normal rock experience, but as a new Radiohead fan, this album is a spectacle to listen to. Each track on this beast feels like a smooth sailing adventure. It made me feel calm, yet made me feel somewhat sad. It’s strange, despite me not understanding what Thom is saying, he still tugs on my heart. It’s crazy how well this album was built, despite how much shit the band went through in making this album.
#I A Moon Shaped Pool
Oh my god. This album, I have zero idea how this made me feel. It just makes me feel these raw emotions, it made me cry even though I was happy, it’s strange. It’s...I legit cannot describe how beautiful this album is. Thom’s vocals, Jonny’s beautiful guitar, and whoever said to add violins on here, I want to shake their hand right now because they just make this album so much better. From the shit show that was King of Limbs, this...this makes me hopeful for Radiohead’s next release. I want more of this from Thom. I want to cry while smiling again. I want that experience again. I don’t want to exit the Moon shaped pool. Please.
Sorry for getting a bit emotional. Yeah that was the worst to best. Hope you enjoyed this. Might do a Beatles one next but we’ll see. So yeah, thanks for reading.

hey jo, i was wondering what your favourite song is from each radiohead album (if you can even choose)?
hey! Oh man I’m so sorry it’s taken me like a fortnight to actually reply to this even when I said I’d reply the next day. I’ve been so tired lately, but I wanted to actually take the time to reply properly.
I can kind of choose, or at least I can pick the songs I listen to the most or give the biggest shout out to!
Pablo Honey
You is possibly my favourite, I don’t listen to PH much. I get Anyone Can Play Guitar stuck in my had sporadically
The Bends
Just probably gets it for this just because of the 1996 lip sync fiasco video from French tv. Pure, wholesome, unparalleled joy. However this is super closely follow by The Bends, High & Dry (it reminds me of driving in the car with my dad when he’d play all the current Radiohead albums around 2004/5) and Street Spirit. Having seen the latter live I can’t not love it even more
Ok Computer
I’m going to say Subterranean Homesick Alien cause I’ve loved it the longest and Iisten it a lot in summer lol, but really it’s an equal tie between about half the album: Airbag, Paranoid Android, Karma Police (I have not recovered from seeing that live at all) Let Down & The Tourist. Also seen a lot of this album live in Lollapalooza
Kid A
Kid A maybe? I’ve had a long time love for the albums namesake as well as EIIRP, Idioteque and Optimistic. That said it’s an incredible album all round and I think it depends on my mood to my favourite.
Amnesiac
Packt Like Sardines…. was a favourite of mine for so long back when I was about 15 along with Like Spinning Plates, but I think I Might Be Wrong and Life In A Glass House has it these days. The live version of IMBW @ Earls Court (2003) (about 31 minutes in) changed my life - Thom ends the song with some U2 and it’s phenomenal
Hail To The Thief
I love this album so much sometimes I have no idea how to choose. I think There There is quintessential Radiohead in many ways, as is 2+ 2= 5 - the song I might have loved the longest. Punch Up At A Wedding (sorry not sorry @chrishoulihan ilu) plus Where I End & You Begin (what I can only ever think of as @yesterdaysantiquatedchests song) I’ve listened to countlessly.
I think the ultimate shout goes to The Gloaming and (perhaps guiltily) the unmixed version
In Rainbows (CD1)
Weird Fishes. I’ve been thinking about this one since I you sent this and I think it must be this one. I think Ben said on one of the @thedailymailpodcast eps that it’s like…quintessentially Radiohead in a way and no other band could do this song like they do, and I really agree. it’s a beautiful song, so strange and freeing. I listen to it all the time. IR is a gorgeous album, Reckoner is also one of the most beautiful songs - like Videotape, but for almost polarising reasons.
(CD2)
An eternal tie between 4 Minute Warning, Go Slowly and Bangers + Mash
The King of Limbs
It never used to be, but definitely Bloom. Seeing it live was…amazing. I can’t find the exact HQ fan recording but Thom’s solo @ pathway to Paris is so beautiful it hurts. Separator is my second and equal favourite, I think it’s one of their most positive, soothing songs (much like Supercollider which I give an ultimate shout out to also)
A Moon Shaped Pool
After the first two singles being dropped the first song I listened to from AMSP was Decks Darks so I think it’ll always be at least top of the list for me. Burn The Witch and Daydreaming are favourites too, and Ful Stop was sensational live, it’s such a monster of a song. I still feel like I need to sit with this album for another years
Sooo I hope that’s okay. I mean I could write vastly more than this so this is like a super condensed version minus all the b-sides and all my other feelings.

Hope you are well, how did the concert go ? Did you have fun ? xx
Hey! I’ll post this so others can read it too, as a review of the concert/festival.
Radiohead performed at 10.30PM, so the whole day I tried to save some of my energy so I could go all out for this band. James Blake performed before Radiohead so I tried to get as close to the stage as I could during his concert, despite knowing maybe only one of his songs, but there were some miscalculations on my part -I underestimated how many Radiohead fans had the same idea- so I ended up pretty far from the stage. I still had a great view, but nowhere near the first row I had hoped to get.Radiohead was amazing. Thom and Jonny seemed to be in trance the whole show, and with their song choices, the performances and the montage that was displayed on the screens next to the stage, they took the crowd with them on their trip. Thom said some things in between the songs that made no sense, and his dance moves showed that the man was clearly in his own world. They started with Daydreaming, a risky bet but also a beautiful opener, and it really set the tone for the rest of the night. Then they played Lucky, a crowd pleaser which had the whole festival singing along. From that point on they alternated between experimental, less ‘sing-along’ songs like Idioteque, Identikit, Ful Stop, Bloom, erupting into instrumental madness, and some fan favorites like Let Down, Nude, You and Whose Army, ... They were meant to play 2 hours and a half, but about 1 hour in, they started to play a couple of classics - No Surprises, Paranoid Android, even My Iron Lung- so it became clear the set was going to be shorter. They ended with Karma Police, and when the crowd didn’t want to let go of them, Thom started playing the acoustic guitar and let the crowd sing. That’s how we ended the night.

New piece to celebrate OK Computer’s twentieth anniversary for Pitchfork.

I was asked by @Pitchfork to illustrate @Radiohead’s « Paranoid Android » for the 20th anniversary of OK Computer. “Paranoid Android” was the first Radiohead song I remember hearing after I stumbled across the music video on MTV2 one late night as a lil teen. That moment changed my life, and that music video by Magnus Carlsson is so iconic, that I wanted to do something that was the total opposite but still felt appropriate. While researching the song, I came across a story about how the lyrics were inspired by an incident where Thom Yorke saw someone spill a drink on a woman at a bar, and she turned violent. ‘There was a look in this woman’s eyes that I’d never seen before anywhere,’ he said. ‘Couldn’t sleep that night because of it.’ I tried to imagine that look. This was a total treat because I am a fucking huge Radiohead fan, and I’m in amazing company (hi Sally!) so super thanks to @nonorothco! Swipe over for the still and animated versions. #RADIOHEAD #GODLOVESHISCHILDRENYEAH

La dessinatrice Maren Karlson a quant à elle été chargée de la chanson la plus connue de l’album, « Karma Police », qu’elle a représenté à sa façon, graphique et contemporaine.
