my papyrus thought at this moment: if he went camping it would be cute if he slept in a sleeping bag with a doggy pillow on it. like this but white and with the annoying dog's face instead of a husky (inspired by my kids fighting over who got to sleep in this sleeping bag last night)
Tumblr media
I want to draw this sooo badly that's so cute 😭😭😭 you just know his regular sleeping bag went missing and now this just invites that little white fiend to come and keep him trapped in there by falling asleep on his legs even worse than before >=<[[[

Azuri & Arashi Komatsu
Characters featured: Azuri Komatsu (she/her), Arashi Komatsu (they/them), Lazuli Zephyr (she/her), Papri Kajiwara (she/her)
The Komatsu family is of Shattered Archipelago origin. They moved to Sprine Island to sell fish and tea when their children were young.
Azuri, at this young age, became lost somehow, and her family had no luck finding her, meaning Azu would spend a lot of her childhood without a family or a home. Arashi, her younger sibling, went against their parents' judgement and ran off looking for her. They became a nomad in search of their sister.
Azuri would end up being found by Lazuli at a food center, who would take her in to have her live comfortably at the newly built Elite Division HQ.
Arashi, having heard of the establishment of Elite HQ, decided to check it out and see if they'd be willing to search for Azu, only to realize that Azu herself volunteered to be a member, and has been in a very healthy state of being.
After catching up on what the two missed, being away from each other for so long, Arashi returned to the nomadic lifestyle following the two establishing remote communication. Azuri visits her family occasionally now, though the distance from HQ makes it hard to stay for long, as the cafeteria isn't all that thoroughly staffed, having just herself and Papri to cook for several people.
Are the parents worried about Arashi wandering everywhere? Sometimes, but much less than before. They've proven themself capable, even at a young age.
Also, they bring little souvenirs home, especially from Aeros Island at the other end of Triathlon Bridge.

Cleaning and Decorations with Xavier
-> Cleaning up the house during Diwali signifies letting go of the old (past) and bringing in/welcoming the new. Whereas decorative lights represent the triumph of light over darkness; victory of good over evil.
You tell Xavier about this desi tradition and the next morning he's at your door at 7 am sharp with all the cleaning supplies. He helps you clean up, declutter and even get rid of certain things you don't need anymore but keep hoarding for no reason 😭
Xavier will also love joining you in crafting lanterns, as well as buying decorative items because he gets to spend more time with you 🥺. He'll help you hang the decorative pieces at all the high places, and definitely enjoy setting up all the lights ✨. IT'S HIS FAVORITE PART ABOUT THIS FESTIVAL. He'll help place the diyas (🪔) all over the house.
Tumblr media
Shopping with Sylus
-> Shopping for new items such as furnishings and such is a way to bring in the new things into your lives. It's also believed that buying gold or silver during Diwali is auspicious and brings in wealth and prosperity to a family.
Sylus learns about this custom and the next day, he's outside your apartment with his sportscar, inviting you to a shopping date with him. Will definitely spoil you and buy loads of gold and silver jewellery for you cause he can 😌
Will also buy you furnishings way too lavish for your liking, saying shit like “the couch in your living room is too shabby, sweetie.” May or may not ask Luke and Keiran to help replace and redecorate all the furniture in your house 😭
Tumblr media
Making candles and sweet dishes with Zayne
-> Many people buy but many others also make their own candles and diyas (🪔) at home to decorate the house. We also make sweet dishes which vary accordingly with every region of India.
Zayne is a calm and patient person. So who better to invite for making candles and sweets than him? He'll be a very patient learner. He'll love this activity so much, mostly cause he'll get to see your cute, annoyed expressions. And his candles will definitely look better than your crooked ones 😭
ZAYNE LOVES SWEETS! He'll be kinda excited to try the Desi delicacies. He'd probably enjoy Gulab Jamun the most! And Rasmalai 😋. He may not like kaju katli or soan papri as much but he'll appreciate them all the same. Oh and he will surely like boondi ke laddu.
Tumblr media
Rangoli and Mehendi with Rafayel
-> We make Rangolis during Diwali to welcome the Goddess Lakshmi, goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is believed that deities like houses with beautiful rangoli. Rangolis also represent the people’s joy as well as the triumph of good over evil. Whereas Mehendi (or henna art) is a tradition mostly performed by women. We love covering our hands in beautiful henna art 😍
Rafayel is an artist so of course he's gonna be most excited to indulge in the Rangoli making. His designs are gonna be the prettier than yours. He doesn't even bother looking up the simple rangoli designs on the internet. He'll directly create his own authentic and complex designs all over your house.
And he'd love Mehendi (henna art). He'd quickly learn the process of making mehendi at home. And then he'll get down to making beautiful patterns on your hands. Will definitely add lots of water symbolic designs as well as hide his name in the design 🤭 (eh-hem hiding each-other’s names in mehendi art is a hindu wedding tradition for bride and groom)
Tumblr media
Miscellaneous HCs
♡ All of them will sincerely sit throughout the praying session. They'll help perform all the rituals.
♡ All of them will gawk at you in your pretty lehengas and sarees and kurtis and other traditional outfits you choose to wear 😊. They'll shower you with loads of compliments. Will definitely try out desi outfits for men if you ask them.
♡ They'll love trying out all the desi dishes you prepared.
♡ Xavier and Zayne will enjoy all the card games and will definitely keep beating your ass 😭
♡ They'll say no to fire crackers cause they cause pollution. Celebrate a Green Diwali y'all 😊🫶

Mushrooms in Cream Sauce...
...or Pilze in Sahnesoße.
This is for @killerblackberrypie, who went looking for the version on our "European Cusines" site and found the site gone.
@dduane had taken it down for maintenance, a new theme and to take some new photos, but while the site was down it web-provider went belly-up. These things happen.
"European Cuisines" Will Return - just not quite yet.
Our recipe was, ironically, one of the recipes slated for new pics, so while this text is from the site's offline backup (with a couple of tweaks from me, because why not?) photos are sourced from the web.
There are many, many other recipes online; they're mostly in German, but Google Translate handles Rezeptedeutch well enough. I've linked to a couple, which is only fair since I'm using their pix.
You'll also see the French word "champignons" in German recipes as often as German "Pilze"; I don't know whether this indicates a French origin for the recipe, or refers to a specific mushroom, or makes the dish sound more classy.
Here's one: Champignons in Sahnesauce mit Spätzle.
Tumblr media
And here's ours...
*****
Pilze in Sahnesoße from European Cuisines.
Contrary to popular belief, Germany is not a vegetable-free zone.
In fact, unless you find yourself buried in some tiny backwater in the Black Forest or someplace similar, Germany is much kinder to both vegetable-lover and vegetarian than a lot of other places. It will be rare to find a menu that doesn't have at least a few vegetarian or at least mostly-vegetable options on it, often far more creative than you might expect.
But leaving aside for the moment the issue of vegetarianism per se, Germans really do like more vegetables than potatoes and cabbage, especially seasonal ones in their prime. Asparagus season, for instance, has its own name: Spargelzeit - "asparagus time".
And mushrooms (all right, not as true veggies, but at least as fungi) turn up as stars in many entreés, especially in dishes meant to be served in the autumn, "Pilzsaison", mushroom season, when the good little creatures are coming up all over in the woods and the supermarkets.
This recipe calls for the mushrooms to be sautéed with onions in bacon fat (the bacon is added later). The pan is then deglazed with white wine, and various spices are added, one of them being paprika, which instantly suggests that this recipe probably sneaked over the border from Austro-Hungary, possibly via the Czech Republic.
Finally the cream and bacon go in.
The result is substantial, surprisingly elegant, and yummy.
This is definitely a recipe for a high-end Hobbit menu: an entrée for anyone who doesn't want their mushrooms upstaged by overly large amounts of meat.
The bacon-fat and bacon CAN be left out completely, making the dish meat-free. Use more butter along with more mushrooms and a red pepper diced small, and add 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika.
*****
INGREDIENTS
NB, we work in metric so that's "correct"; Imperial is converted and "approximate", though it won't make much difference. Just don't combine them or your mushrooms might crash into Mars...
1 kg / 2 lb fresh mushrooms, domesticated or a mixture of wild types to taste
125g / 1/4 pound bacon, diced
60gr 1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 large onions, diced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
60ml / 1/4 cup (or more if needed to deglaze) white wine, preferably a medium or medium-dry one
A pinch of nutmeg
A pinch of mace
250ml / 1 cup heavy cream
The juice of half a medium-sized lemon, strained
2 sprigs of fresh parsley
METHOD
Clean the mushrooms with a soft brush or dry cloth. (Never wash mushrooms.) If they're big, cut them in half.
Fry the bacon in a wok or large pan until lightly browned. Remove the bacon from the pan and set it aside.
Add the butter to the pan drippings. Add the onions; sauté until lightly browned.
Add the mushrooms; cook them until they're tender, stirring often.
When they're tender, raise the heat slightly and stir in the wine, salt, pepper, paprika, nutmeg, and mace. Cover the pan and cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
Remove from the heat. Add the cooked bacon, cream and lemon juice. Reheat until just warm. Do NOT let this mixture boil!!!
Garnish with parsley and serve with noodles, dumplings, mashed potatoes, whole potatoes... And some crusty bread to chase the last of the sauce.
*****
Our original photo used Spätzle, as in the first pic. Ribbon tagliatelle works just fine as well, while here is Saure Pilz-Sahnesoße served alongside Bohemian Dumplings, a long bread dumpling boiled in water or stock then cut into thick slices.
Tumblr media
From the same site, here's a simple potato treatment, Pilz-Sahnesoße mit Kartoffeln:
Tumblr media
As far as we've been able to make out, the main difference between mushrooms in cream sauce as a main dish, and creamy mushroom sauce for use with something else, is the proportion of mushrooms to everything else, and often the size of pieces into which they're cut. Really small bits are one more ingredient, large generous chunks are much more front and centre.
Ours is definitely a main course, and though we haven't made it for a while, the memory of that last time still makes my Mind Palate go...

Soon. Soon...

some papri facts, boo
"all the papyrus can do that weird glitchy walk thing"
"they’re also all super flexible."
"they all pretend to hate their brothers puns (except for cash)(he also weaponizes puns bc he’s a heathen) and when they get frustrated, they all do that bug eye expression."
"they also all have a dislike for greasy foods. Especially classic papyrus and edge (underfell). They’re all a bit snobby when it comes to food (except willow)(horrortale)."
Yep! That’s glitching. They can briefly stride in the air or clip through walls (if they aren’t too thick)
That’s character specific now. The horrors aren’t very flexible
Yes!! All true!
Most papyri are picky in some way, but I have a couple who aren’t anymore
